Chapter Three: Matthew
I woke up the next morning before the sun rose, as was my habit. I walked over to the closet and dressed. I wore a periwinkle dress that I had sewn myself. Most of my clothes were handmade. I loved to sew.
Sunbeam had awoken by this time. He brought my hair ribbon over while I was brushing my hair.  After tying it, I walked over to the window seat, Sunbeam on my shoulder. We sat there to watch the sunrise.
The sunrise was special to me. It meant the beginning of a new day. Hope, peace, serenity. The light spreading through the gardens filled me with warmth, even though it was chilly that morning.
I walked down to breakfast Sunbeam accompanying me this time. I scanned the room for Téa. Unable to find her, Itook a bowl of oatmeal and some food for Sunbeam.
I headed back for my room, but along the way, I crashed into someone. I picked up my bowl, and heard Sunbeam screaming into my ear. It could only mean that one person was standing above me, Matthew.
I stood up slowly. He glared at me evilly and snatched the bowl from me. He tossed it into the nearby trash bin.
“Oops, I’m sorry.  Was that yours? Clumsy me! You can’t talk so there is no need for you to eat. Your worthless, why you’re even alive, I’ll never know!”
My eyes never left him as he walked away laughing. There was no time for me to head back to the cafeteria before class. I ran off to my room, holding back the tears as I went. In my room, Igrabbed my notebooks and a pen.
As I made my way through the common room, I found Téa. She was laden down with notebooks as well. As she led me down a hallway to our first class, I told her what had happened.
“Oh man. This is bad. They must have picked you to be this year’s tradition victim. Now their going to try everything to make you late for classes, keep you from eating, and other things I don’t even want to think about. They’ll find out your worst fears, and then use them against you!” Téa sighed, “You’ll have to stay with me all the time then. Otherwise, your toast.”
Our first class was about the different types of pokémon. To my delight, the first unit turned out to be bird pokémon! As I took notes, I failed to keep myself focused. Matthew kept glaring at me,and grinning evily. Téa stuck her tounge out at him when the teacher wasn’t looking, but aparrently he wasn’t phased in the least.
Later on in the day, in our free time after classes, I followed Téa to the swimming pool. I refused to go near it, since I couldn’t swim. Téa however told me that she went swimming every day with her Goldeen.
I watched in awe as she dove gracefully under the water to fetch things off the bottom. I never heard Matthew creep up behind me.  Someone called to Téa and she went over to see what was going on.  As soon as she was out of earshot, Matthew spoke to me from behind.
        “Hope you like to swim!”
With that he pushed me in.  Istruggled, trying to get back to the side of the pool.  I had been raised in the mountains, far away from a place where I could learn to swim. Téa heard me and dove towards me. I started to sink towards the bottom. My lungs felt like they were going to burst.
When I could not hold my breath any longer, I let it go. Water filled my lungs and I choked. I felt someone grab me and yank me towards the surface before I blacked out.
This was the beginning of what would come to be my everyday life, trying to escape Matthew’s tricks.
As I lay unconsious, I dreamt that the school was in danger. People kept telling me that I was the only person who could help the school, and that I had to get Matthew to help me. I started to question them, but started to wake up at that moment.
