Authors note: I'm starting a re-write on Renegades. Looking back on this fic, I keep seeing that the story was good, but the quality of the work was horrible. However, this being one of my earlier works, and pretty good for it being one, it deserved a second chance. So, here we go.

Disclaimer: I do not own Pokemon and the Chimera Saga was started by Theo 'Blitz' Leung. However, most of the 'new' characters that appear in this fic are either mine or Blitz's. We do require permission before they are used.

Chimera Saga: Renegades
Prologue: The First Chimeras
Author: Izumi Ryu
Original concept by: Theo 'Blitz' Leung

Month M, Day D, Year Y

Commencing experiment of splicing pokemon DNA with human DNA. Our sponsor, Giovanni, has supplied us with various Pokemon DNA as well as several human embryos. The pokemon DNA will be directly spliced into the embryos. We're expecting the added DNA to cause no harm to the embryos, but the first stage of this will take months. It will be difficult to tell whether this experiment will succeed.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

It's been six months since we've spliced the DNA into the human embryos. Fifty percent of the embryos have died at this point, and only four of the embryos are stable. We believe that the embryos were simply not compatible with the DNA spliced with them. We are trying to find a way to make the Pokemon DNA compatible enough to splice with human DNA. For now, we're focusing our attention on the embryos that have survived so far. The embryos that have remained stable are the ones that look like they will live.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

After another month, the embryos that have been unstable have died off. Only four fetuses remain, and it looks like they will be fully alive within a month. We're trying to figure out why these four managed to survive when all the others haven't. It may have something to do with the DNA we spliced into them.  After checking into the Pokemon DNA, we've found that the DNA was either Abra or Machop DNA, which are closest to resembling human DNA. This may mean that crossbreeds may be possible naturally, but that would be for another project.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

The four fetuses have finally developed fully. The two with the Machop DNA were born male while the two with the Abra DNA were born female. There were no deformities due to the Pokemon DNA. Since the Pokemon DNA used is similar to the human DNA, this may mean there will be no future deformities. Until the subjects mature, we cannot see any other effects of the experiment.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

The children have matured enough to walk and talk rather well. In fact, they seem to be able to understand Pokemon's language. It's amazing what we learned just through that. It seems that Pokemon have the same mental capacity as humans, it's just that the language barrier between humans and Pokemon prevents us from understanding that. It makes me wonder if Pokemon training is even moral. These Chimeras, as Giovanni calls them, seem to be the key to unlocking a whole new understanding of Pokemon in general.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

We nearly had a scare today when one of the subjects went missing. One of the Abra Chimeras suddenly disappeared from the lunch room. We searched all over the facility for the subject and found it in its room. The subject said it didn't have a clue what just happened, that she just felt she wanted to be alone and was all of a sudden, lying on its bed in the room. We may believe it has tapped into the abilities granted to it through the Abra DNA in her and learned how to Teleport.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

More evidence of the Chimeras being able to use a Pokemon's abilities rose today. One of the Machop Chimeras became angry and punched a wall. Unfortunately, it punched a hole in the wall. I am worried that the subjects may have problems controlling their abilities. I proposed to Giovanni that we hire an expert psychic and a martial artist to help control their abilities. Giovanni provided both, understanding the problems we were having.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

As the subjects approach puberty, the question of reproduction came up. We are currently running several artificial insemination tests to see whether the Chimeras would be able to reproduce, let alone how compatible they are to humans and pokemon.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

All reproductive tests came up positive. They are not only able to reproduce but are compatible with both humans and pokemon of certain types, but because of the fear of how powerful these offspring would have been, we were ordered to destroy the embryos. We are worried about the current Chimeras, but as of now, it doesn't look like the subjects show any sign of attraction to each other beyond what we've already seen.

Dr. Sapphire was inputting some data from the day's analysis. As she did this, she looked at her four subjects, who were sitting at a table, chatting amongst each other. Now, they were teenagers who were stuck in a lab facility, their human rights being violated, not that they even knew what rights they had as humans.

Then, she placed her hand over her enlarged stomach. She was eight months pregnant with a daughter on the way. She was thankful that her own child didn't have to go through this. Starting out, she wanted to do this out of sheer curiosity, but now, it was an obligation. She started having second thoughts about this project once she became pregnant. Part of her wanted to stop this project and take the kids in herself.

"Dr. Sapphire," one of her assistants said as she walked into the room. "Giovanni is on the phone for you."

"Thank you," Dr. Sapphire said as she got up and walked out of the laboratory. She walked into her own office and sat down at her desk, then picked up the phone. She never thought much of Giovanni calling here, thinking that he was just wanting a report on the experiment's progress. "This is Dr. Sapphire."

"Dr. Sapphire. It has come to my attention that you are now eight months pregnant. Is this true?" Giovanni asked on the other end.

This question made Dr. Sapphire both worried and upset. "Yes, sir, but that is none of your business," Dr. Sapphire said.

"That's where you're wrong," Giovanni replied. "You are expected to give up your child to a future experiment. We may have a new method in creating Chimeras and we need new subjects."

"And what are you going to do, take the fetus right out of me?" Dr. Sapphire asked, defiance showing in her voice.

"No, we wouldn't do that. There will be a man coming in within the next month. When you go into labor, he will pose as the father of your child. This man will take your child to the lab in Glacier City, where we will attempt to make a Lapras Chimera."

"A Lapras Chimera? That's impossible. Non-humanoid DNA will kill her," Dr. Sapphire practically yelled. "Do you think I will give up my child to some experiment that is sure to fail?"

"That is not your decision. If you refuse to do this, I will cut off the funding of your project."

"Go ahead," Dr. Sapphire dared him. "I have no interest in these experiments anymore."

"Oh, really. Then, you wouldn't mind if I killed your subjects then, would you?"

"What?!" Dr. Sapphire screamed.

"So you have built an emotional bond with those...things. They aren't human, so they don't have any human rights, not even the right to live. You seem to think differently, don't you?"

Dr. Sapphire started shaking. She didn't know what she could do. If she tried anything, she could be killed herself. Giovanni was ruthless. In a depressed voice, she finally said, "Okay, you win."

"I would hope you would see things my way. Have a good evening," Giovanni said. Then, Dr. Sapphire heard the click on the other end, signaling that the Giovanni had hung up.

Dr. Sapphire slowly hung up the phone. Then, she just doubled over and covered her face, tears welling up inside. She was caught doing whatever Giovanni wanted her to do.

"Dr. Sapphire?" a young feminine voice asked. Dr. Sapphire looked up to see one of the Abra Chimeras standing right in front of her. She wore a white blouse with a skirt. She appeared to be no older than 13 years old.

The adolescent girl walked up to Dr. Sapphire and embraced the crying woman. She secretly scanned Dr. Sapphire's mind to see what was troubling her. After finding out about Giovanni's demand, and accidentally finding out about Team Rocket's fears about the Chimeras, she smirked as she got an idea for a suitable revenge. However, she needed to think of a way to calm down the older woman. However, she could only come up with the words she heard when she was sad. "Don't worry. Everything will be okay."

"Are you crazy?" one of the boys asked. The Machop Chimera looked like he was slapped in the face. This boy wore a white-collared shirt and black slacks. He had a bit of a muscular build from his training. "You want one of us to get you pregnant?"

"I figured it would be the best revenge," the girl simply replied. "Besides, I have a feeling that we aren't going to be alive for very long. Why not get a child out of it and see what kind of Hell we can raise?"

"Besides, why should you complain, you'd actually enjoy it," the other girl said. She wore an orange dress herself. It was just some of the more perverted scientists idea to give the girls skirts or dresses. The girls actually liked the clothing, so they didn't really mind.

"That does appear to be the perfect revenge. They don't know if they would be able to control our children because of how much power they may have," the second Machop Chimera said. He looked quite similar to the first male, except he was wearing khaki slacks. "Plus, Dr. Sapphire has been like a mother to us. She doesn't deserve anything like this."

"But what about you?" the first male asked. "You know that you would be sent through Hell."

"Who said she was going to be alone?" the girl in the dress asked. "I'm actually considering doing this as well."

"You don't need to do this. Only one of us has to," the first girl said, in a serious tone.

"What? And let you have all the fun?" the second girl joked, causing the first one to sigh.

"And what about us? We're affected by this as well," the first male said.

"All you have to do is get us pregnant. After that, you don't have to be involved in this any more." the girl said monotonously.

"Do you really believe we'd just bail on you when your carrying our children?" he spat back.

The first girl just sighed, not believing she was hearing this. She had no concept of what love was at all, and just didn't understand what the boy was babbling about. All she wanted was his seed and that's it. "Do what you wish. Besides, it's not like we're doing this immediately...too many prying eyes. We should be left generally unattended when Dr. Sapphire goes to give birth to her daughter. We'll do that then."

A month passed by rather quickly for the Chimeras, despite all the tests that seem to take forever. After having to deal with this for years, though, they became used to it. Though, some of the tests required exposing themselves to the scientists, so it made them a bit uncomfortable, especially the girls, since they could sense the thoughts of some of the male scientists. They tried to ignore it though, knowing they may see these same thoughts from their 'brothers'.

When a new man appeared in the lab, the girls became very cautious around him. Even though Dr. Sapphire introduced the man as her husband, there was something wrong about him. Dr. Sapphire didn't exactly seem too comfortable around him either. The man seemed to hate the children casting glares that promised death every time he sees them. There was no doubt that this man hated the children because of what they were.

That man wouldn't stay for very long. He seemed to be very relieved when Dr. Sapphire went into labor one afternoon a week after he started visiting the lab. Just as the girls predicted, they were left unattended for the most part. This was their cue to put their plans in action.

After Dr. Sapphire's child was born, she returned with pictures for the kids to see of the baby. Dr. Sapphire said her daughter was with her father, but all five of them knew where she really was. Dr. Sapphire would really like to think she was with her father, rather than being killed.

"Dr. Sapphire, you should see this," an assistant said, looking over the scans of one of the Abra chimeras.

The woman sighed, wondering what could be the problem now. She didn't want to deal with this project now, but what could she do with Giovanni being the sponsor. As she looked at the monitor, she couldn't believe her eyes. She checked the monitor on the other Abra Chimera, which showed the same thing.

"Ummm...girls? I have some interesting news for you I'm trying to figure out. It seems that both of you are pregnant. May I have an explanation for this?"

The two Abra chimeras looked at each other, unsure of what to say to the woman. One finally spoke up. "A month ago, we asked the boys to get us pregnant intentionally," the young girl said.

"What possessed you to do something like this?" Dr. Sapphire asked, obviously angry with them.

"I found out about what really happened to your baby. I'm sorry, I read your mind to find out what was wrong with you and thought it would be suitable revenge on Giovanni," the same girl replied.

"Oh, girls..." Dr. Sapphire said, trying to figure out how to clean up this mess. Giovanni will definitely have a fit over this. However, she actually thought revenge was appealing, but would she put these kids through Hell just to get revenge on her boss?

"Don't worry about us, we already put ourselves up to this," the other girl said, reading the thoughts from Dr. Sapphire's mind. "We did this for you in the first place."

She considered the girls for a second and what they said. Then, she turned around and looked at her assistant. "Pass this message all other personnel. A complication has come up in the Chimera experiments. Until further notice, only personnel authorized by me personally will be allowed near the Chimeras."

"Are you sure this is okay? I mean, Giovanni will have our heads," the assistant brought up.

"I'm trusting you not to bring this up with Giovanni at all. There's a lot more on the line than you think if he does find out. If all goes to plan, we won't have to worry about him."

Then, Dr. Sapphire turned to the girls. "If you are to keep your children, they will be subjected to the same experiments you went through. However, I'm not willing to do that. We're going to put your children up for adoption right behind Giovanni's back, he won't know a thing."

"Thank you, Dr. Sapphire," the girls told her.

"Now as far as getting you through the pregnancy, this will be very hard on you. I will have you under constant watch throughout your pregnancy. I can't take you two to the hospital, so everything will have to be done here."

"Also, it's going to take a lot more than just me and the assistants to help you. The boys will need to help you two as much as possible. Believe it or not you will need their support for the next 8 months."

"We understand," the girls said.

Dr. Sapphire's private journal:

Month M, Day D, Year Y

With the girls' pregnancy, we haven't been able to run full tests on the chimeras, we managed to give satisfactory results to Giovanni. So far, it seems that Giovanni doesn't know what's going on, and the less he knows, the better. The girls seem to be handling the pregnancies quite well. It seems that the kids are starting to look at each other less as siblings and more as life-long mates. It's this kind of thing that makes me regret taking charge of the experiment because no matter what Giovanni thinks, they are still human.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

Unbelievable news from Glacier City. My child was the only survivor of the experiment there. They are expecting me there to finish off the project for them, but I have too much to do here until the kids give birth. I suspect within six months I can make the trip to Glacier City. The children here are really glad for me that my child survived, but I know what's coming up for her. I don't want her to go through that.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

Eight months into the pregnancies, I had to order the girls to stay in bed because the pregnancy was taking too much of a toll on their bodies. At the rate things are going, vaginal birth will be impossible, so we'll have to perform a C-Section when the time is right. The boys have actually done a good job keeping the girls comfortable, despite the girls insisting on doing things. They just don't like being considered 'invalids', even though that is not the case.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

The girls finally gave birth to their children. Both babies were born male. I'm giving the newborns three days to be with their mothers before putting them up for adoption at the Indigo Plateau. We will leave for Glacier City within the next couple of weeks or so. Hopefully, our troubles within the last year is gone for good.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

The chimeras let a couple of single women adopt their children. On top of that, the boys let their pokemon that were assigned to them as training partners go to protect their sons. We have no clue as to where the parents live, though. We started our trip to Glacier City today as well. Hopefully, the remaining projects at that lab will go well.

"Hello, Dr. Sapphire," a familiar looking man said when the group reached the lab facility. Then, he scowled as he noticed the chimeras standing around Dr. Sapphire.

"Hello," Dr. Sapphire replied. "So, how's my daughter doing?"

"She's fine for now. Though, if I had my way, I wouldn't mind killing the freak right now," the man told them.

"You do, and I will have Giovanni personally take care of you," Dr. Sapphire threatened.

"Like I care about that creep," the man said before walking off.

"He shows his true colors. Wasn't that the man you posed as your husband?" one of the Abra chimeras asked.

"Yes, he was," Dr. Sapphire sighed before walking in. As she walked in, she looked around to find someone to help her find her daughter, trying to ignore what just happened. She finally came up to the man who had been heading Project Sarpal.

"Welcome to the Glacier City Lab, Dr. Sapphire," the man said. "Would you like me to show you your rooms?"

"First, I'd like to see my daughter, and see for myself that she's okay," Dr. Sapphire responded, getting very impatient.

"I understand. Right this way," the scientist said before walking off, leading the group towards a medical room. "Your daughter is just undergoing a routine check-up right now, so it shouldn't be a problem to see her."

As the scientist opened the door, the male doctor that was in there practically jumped out of his skin. He was standing right next a medical table, where a blue-haired baby was lying down. "Oh, hi. Here to see your daughter, Dr. Sapphire?" the man asked. Then, he looked at the older chimeras with an expression that showed pity when they walked in.

"Yes," she said as she walked up to the table and picked up her child. She was relieved that the baby girl was indeed healthy, but something didn't seem right. The baby girl just looked up at her mother as if she was a complete and total stranger. The baby started squirming within her own mother's arms.

"I just have a couple of things to finish up. I'll let you see her when we're done," the doctor said before taking the baby back. Something about the man made one of the boys a bit suspicious of the man. There was just something about him that made him seem shady.

Dr. Sapphire nodded a bit depressed that things happened the way they did, as they followed the scientist out. This whole time away pretty much made her daughter forget who she was. There was no doubt about that in the way the baby acted.

As the scientist led the group down the hall, one of the boys intentionally slowed his pace, letting the group get ahead of him, then turned around and walked back to the medical room. Something didn't seem right with that physician, it was as if he was hiding something.

He stopped as he saw the door to the medical office open, the doctor carrying the baby in one hand and a handgun with a silencer in the other. Once the physician caught sight of the kid in his way, he sighed as he leveled the gun at him, not truly wanting to kill him. He didn't have much of a choice though, as he pulled the trigger. There was a quiet sound of the bullet going through the elongated tube and striking the chimera in the chest, knocking him on his back. Then the doctor ran over the corpse and towards the main entrance.

Dr. Sapphire didn't notice the boy's disappearance until they were almost to the rooms. This worried the scientist even more than the others, not knowing what could happen. The only other male chimera said he'd go find him and ran back towards the medical room. By the time he reached the main hallway, he saw the physician from earlier running with what looked like a baby in his arm, most likely Dr. Sapphire's daughter. With that thought in mind, he started running after the man, hoping to catch him before it was too late.

He would've had no problem catching up with the man, if he had caught up before they reached the exit, but this was not the case. Once the man got outside, the ground changed from solid tile to snow and ice, making it very hard to run, even for the fighting chimera that was chasing the man. The snow buried the men's foot and ankle every step, so it wasn't exactly the easiest thing to do. They couldn't run as fast as they wanted to even if they tried.

The chimera knew one thing, if he had any hope for catching him, he needed to catch the guy at the lake he seemed to be running for. There had to be a pier or something with more solid ground. Of course, it could mean ice which would make things even more difficult. He had no other choice, but to try to ignore the cold air and rough this race.

Once the doctor reached the lake, he ran along the lake's edge until he reached a pier that ran over the water. A boat was tied to the pier waiting for him, so he slowed down, to prepare to board. The sound of footsteps on the pier caught his attention, though. The boy chasing him had caught up with him surprisingly, and was making a mad dash straight at him. The doctor finally aimed his gun at him, but his aim was off for the first few shots. And by the time he finally hit him, the boy was already moving too fast and was in range to strike him. He felt a cold sting of pain as the boy's fist came into contact with his face, and sent him flying off the pier and into the water. The baby was thrown from the man's arms while he was in mid-air, and landed even further away from the pier. As for the boy, his foot found a slick spot after he punched the man and he fell off the pier himself, his blood changing a small area of the icy water to a red color.

Back in the lab facility, the scientist had finally led the women to their rooms. "This will be the girls' room," the scientist said, motioning the girls in as he opened the door.

Once the girls were inside, they stood there in confusion, unsure what to think. The room was completely empty. No furniture of any kind or anything. Then, the door suddenly slammed behind them, locking Dr. Sapphire out of the room, and leaving the girls alone with the scientist. The scientist frowned as he pulled a handgun, and aimed at the first girl. Both girls attempted to raise a barrier to deflect the shots, but nothing came, except a heavy amount of fatigue. The scientist mercilessly fired two gunshots, hitting the girls in the chest, and knocking them to the ground. The girls just lied on the ground motionless, blood spreading on the floor.

The scientist then pulled out a small walkie-talkie. "Test complete. The Psychic Dampening Field was a success. The girls were completely defenseless," the scientist said before walking out of the room.

"What are you doing?" Dr. Sapphire demanded, tears forming in her eyes.

"Giovanni's orders. The last test performed on the psychic chimeras was to be to test a no device to counter out psychic powers. Giovanni was going to order your subjects to be killed anyway," the scientist told her, coldly.

"Sir, we have bad news," a voice over the man's walkie-talkie cackled.

The scientist brought it out. "What is it?"

"Sarpal was kidnapped. We also found the body of one of the chimeras near the medical office, dead. Our cameras caught footage of the physician that was with Sarpal running with him, being chased by the other male chimera."

Dr. Sapphire started to breakdown and fall to her knees as she heard this. "What happened to them?" the scientist ordered.

"We don't know, but there were reports of gunfire being heard from the lake. They also saw two men fall into the lake and never came out, with a third object. Some of our security saw them running in the direction of the lake."

"Thank you," the scientist replied, then looked down at the sobbing woman. "You are not emotionally fit to run such a project. You became too attached to your subjects. Even Giovanni saw this. I've got orders for you from Giovanni. You are to report to the T.R.S. Sciteneg within a week at the Vermillion City dock. There you are going to act as an assistant and a medical doctor for a new project. Also, all records of your experiment with the first chimeras are supposed to be destroyed. That is all."

Then, the scientist walked off, leaving the woman alone to grieve for the children, and her shattered life.

Month M, Day D, Year Y

I have been relocated to the ship called the T.R.S. Sciteneg, which is supposedly where they will house chimeras. It's mainly an interaction project going on, since we already know how to create the chimeras in the first place. I was ordered to destroy all records of the first experiment, but there will be one left. This personal journal holds all the records of the first Chimera experiments, and I will not let it go, even to Giovanni.

I'm hoping the children to the first chimeras are doing well. At least they will live a normal life. However, it won't be easy for them to live among normal people. Very soon, they will notice skills they have that others don't, or even powers that they shouldn't have. Once this becomes public, it will be impossible to live normally, but even then, it's better than being killed or living as a test subject all your life.
