Be careful what you wish for Ash Ketchum Ash had finally achieved his dream; he had won at the Hoenn league and had become a pokemon master at last. He was alone again, and as he looked up at the star filled sky, he couldn't help but feel that something was missing. As he watched, a shooting star raced across the sky, and ash still being a believer in such things as wishes, wished. "I wish my father could have been there on my journey." As Ash fell asleep, time rewound around him. Back to before Hoenn, before Johto, before Pikachu, and then it stopped. When Ash awoke, he was no longer outside under the stars, but in a large tank. Bubbles escaped from his mouth in surprise when he saw his reflection in the glass. His hair was now down to his back, grayish-blue in color, it barely hid the gills on the sides of his neck. To top everything off, his hands and feet were webbed, and when he turned, he could see a tail. He resembled a cross between a human and a Golduck, and as he swam, he wondered how it had happened. He turned when he heard someone talking about him, and more bubbles escaped when he realized whom it was. Giovanni was standing in front of the tank! "How is he?" "His transformations are almost perfect, some still have the effect you see before you though. I think we may have to scrap the program, our other project is doing much better." "I'll deal with this one, everyone out now!" Alone now, Ash growled at Giovanni, he felt something strange, and when he looked, he was now a perfect imitation of a Gyarados, all except for his black coloring. "Tut, tut my boy. You should know better than to allow your feelings to control your shifts, come on out of there and we'll talk man to pokehuman." Ash growled again, but he raised himself up out of the water, and by the time he touched the floor, he was dry, a black tank top over some green army cargo pants was his chosen form, his black hair stood up in spikes, black gloves covered up to his knuckles and he glared out of his now steely gray eyes. "What do you want?" "You heard what the scientists said, you're flawed. I should get rid of you now, but I have a better idea." "I'm listening." "I have a team that isn't very good. They screw up on the smallest of missions; their names are Jessie, and James. The third member of their group is a talking Meowth." "And what does this have to do with me?" "I want you to join their team. If you can shape them up, and help them to successfully complete this next mission I am going to give them, you can stay on as a Team Rocket member. No one will know that you are the pokehuman, only me." "What's my other choice?" "Stay here in this room until you die." "Fine." Ash growled, "I'll work with these chumps." "Good, now I've registered you under the name Gold as a beginning trainer. Jessie and James will tell you what the plan is once you are in Pallet, and don't screw this up." Half an hour later, Ash was yawning as Professor Oak explained the basics of training. He had hoped his first mission would be more exciting, but all he had to do was deliver the ransom note after Jessie and James took the pokeballs as well as Gary Oak. On schedule, the lights in the room went out, Ash pulled on his night vision sunglasses, and wrapped a chloroformed cloth around Gary's mouth. It was too easy, in seconds his partners were off with the stolen pokeballs and Gary Oak. Ash would meet them again in Viridian. Ash pretended to be concerned when Professor Oak found the note he had prepared, but his only concern was getting a pokemon so he could leave. "I don't mean to be insensitive Professor Oak." He said calmly, "But do you have any pokemon left for me? Maybe I can track down the people who stole Gary." "NO! I absolutely forbid it! But you can take this note to officer Jenny in Viridian, she'll know what to do, and you can take this pokemon as well. I caught him this morning and he's still wild, but you are going to need a pokemon." "Thanks Professor Oak." Ash wasn't far from the lab when his first pokemon, a Pikachu as he discovered, refused to stay in his pokeball. He insisted on walking behind Ash, trying to run away every time he thought Ash wasn't looking. After Ash captured a Pidgey using his own thundershock attack, Pikachu decided to stick with him. "After all" he said, "We pokemon have to stick together, even if you are a freak pokemon." "Thank you so much" Ash replied sarcastically. Ash was in a hurry, he wanted to get to Viridian as soon as possible, but after a week he still hadn't heard from his teammates. "This is getting boring Pikachu." He said, "I've captured every pokemon I possibly can in this stupid forest, and there's still not a peep from Jessie and James. Well I'm sick of waiting, I'll take on the Viridian pokemon center myself if I have to!" Ash said He was about to leave when a girl about the same age as him went biking speedily past. When he saw the flock of spearow's swooping down, he understood. Not thinking, he ordered Pikachu to thundershock them. It stopped the flock of Spearow's, but it also fried the girl and her bike. Ash sighed as he walked over to the girl, looking up he gasped. A great golden bird flew over his head; it's tail making a rainbow in its wake. When Ash pointed his pokedex at it, there was no data. He considered trying to talk to it in pokespeech, but there was still the matter of the girl. When Ash looked up again, the great bird was gone. "What do you suppose that was?" Ash asked Pikachu who shrugged, "Well I guess my plans are on hold for now, we'd better get her to a hospital." Ash made a stretcher from the trees around the area, and when he was ready, he slipped under the harness and began to pull, "Man she weighs a ton." Ash turned and seeing Pikachu lying on the girl's chest he angrily ordered him off. With that weight back on the road, it was easier pulling the girl, but it still took him two whole hours to get to Viridian. He dumped her off at the hospital, and was going over to the pokemon center when he noticed James leaning up against a wall. Ash pulled him into the alley, he was furious with them, "What took you guys so long?" "Boss said you did a good job, he gave us some new pokemon that we're supposed to give you, we were weighed down by the load." "Well I guess that's okay, but next time try not to be so long!" After switching the pokemon he had caught in the forest with the ones from Giovanni, he started to get ready. Applying blue makeup to his eye, smashing a blood packet over his wrist, and breaking a blood caplet in his nose, he was ready. For special effects, he put some fake scars on Pikachu and walked into the pokemon center. "Oh my god! What happened?" "We were attacked by Team Rocket, they had a Scyther, it hurt my Pikachu while they beat me up so that I couldn't attack back. I only got away thanks to another trainer." "Come this way, we'll get you and your Pikachu healed right away." Ash snuck behind Nurse Joy, sealing her within her own supply closet, quickly he pulled the vacuum hose into the center, and after sucking up all of the pokemon including the Pikachu Joy used for emergency power, his teammates took the vacuum and ran. Ash wrote in big letters: "COMPLIMENTS OF TEAM ROCKET" Under which he drew a face, pulling down one eyelid with a finger and sticking out its tongue. With that done, he pulled the emergency alarm, and waited, pretending to be unconscious in the waiting room. ........................................ Misty awoke in a hospital, beside her was a brand new bike, a card read, Dear whoever you are, I am sure you would like to thank me for saving your life, but I didn't think it was wise to hang around since I had to destroy that beautiful bike of yours to do it. This one's all paid up, I hope it compensates for the one I destroyed, and I really hope I can see you again, Gold. Misty wondered who her mysterious savior could be as she turned on the television. Professor Oak was pressing a picture of Gary up to the camera, and then he pulled it back. "This is my grandson Gary Oak. He was kidnapped by Team Rocket, please I beg of you, don't harm him, he's the only family I have left." Professor Oak laid his head in his arms, sobbing uncontrollably, then the scene switched to a pokemon center in which a nurse joy was sobbing and the boy she had ridden past earlier was holding her. "So what happened here?" "I was helping this young man and his Pikachu when I was locked into my own supply cupboard, when I was let out by officer Jenny all of the center's pokemon were gone." "And what part did you play young man?" "Well I was waiting for Nurse Joy to come back, when I saw Team Rocket come in. I tried to fight them, but my Pikachu and I were too tired. They said that they had all they wanted and that I was lucky that they didn't take my pokemon, and then they knocked me out. When I came to, there was that strange message on the wall and Team Rocket was gone, they had stolen my money, but had left my pokemon. I'm just glad that I wasn't robbed like the pokemon center." "Well there you have it folks. Two separate accounts of Team Rocket activities. It is this reporter's opinion that it is time for an investigation of not only this Team Rocket, but also whoever is funding them. And that's the evening news, Goodnight." Misty switched the television off, shaking her head. What twisted psycho would steal sick pokemon as well as kidnap Gary Oak? Whoever they were she hoped they got just what they deserved. End chapter Okay, I said it would be bleak, I never promised that the world would spin into chaos because of Ash's wish. But there are some changes, like Gary being kidnapped, and the pokemon from the Viridian pokemon center being taken because Ash/Gold was in on it instead of trying to stop
