Rival Trainers Battle Clash! Chapter 1 by Jam SBKidJamX@aol.com For this story, I decided to take my friends and I and place us in a completely different Pokémon world. While the Pokémon are still here, all the towns, GYMs, and people have been changed to protect the innocent. Well, maybe not entirely to protect the innocent...^_^; I just figured it'd be a neat idea, and I hope you enjoy my very first Pokémon fanfic, and hopefully not the last. I awoke to the sunlight gleaming through my bedroom window. I sat up in my bed, and walked to the window, gazing out of it. Far off in the distance, an outline of a Dodrio perched on a hill could be seen, along with a group of bushes and trees surrounding it. Yes, Gigaton City was a beautiful place. I quickly dressed and slid down the stair banister, to my awaiting mother. "And just WHERE are you going?" she asked. "Oh, you know where! To see Dr. Gray!" I yelled, frustrated. "Hmm...are you sure you want to go on a journey? You're a bit old for it..." "Mom! I'm 14! That's not old! Some of the best trainers out there are 17, maybe even 20!" "Well, if you say so..." "Bye Mom!" "Wait! You haven't even eaten breakfast!" "Grrr.." So, I was forced to sit down and eat some eggs and bacon. I quickly finished my food and dashed out the door, eager to begin my journey. Arriving at Dr. Gray's class, I jumped into my seat, surrounded by other potential Pokémon Trainers, waiting for the results of the exam to return. My friend Ryan walked over to me. "Hiya there, Jeff! Ready for the results?" he asked. "Of course! I know I passed! I've studied everything about Pokémon inside and out, there's no way I can fail!" I boasted. "Well, if you fail, may I have permission to laugh in your face?" Ryan smirked. I was about to tell him off when Dr. Gray stepped into the class and asked us to take our seats. "Greetings, class. Well, I got the exam results back, and I must say that I am overly impressed. Not all of you did pass, however, so those of you that didn't will have to take the course over again. Remember, the next course starts in two weeks, so if you didn't pass, make sure to sign up after class. Now, onto the graduates! I will read them in no particular order." My hands were sweating now. I so badly wanted to pass and become a Pokémon Trainer, it had been my lifelong dream! He started reading off names. I heard the groans of some kids who had the bad luck to not pass, and I felt sorry for them. But a lot of my friends had passed. Like Nick, Ryan, and my very best friend, Nathan. But there was one certain name that caught my ear. "Powell, Olon." I sighed. Olon had passed, which meant he'd be bragging about it all day. I turned to look at him. He was just sitting there, with a content look on his face. He looked in my direction. He gave me one of the most sarcastic grins I'd ever seen. I wanted to punch him in the face, but I knew that was a mistake. Olon was a lot tougher than he looked. For one thing, he wore glasses. When people saw him for the first time, they pegged him as a nerd. But he was more than that. He was a great Pokémon Trainer. He'd beaten me in the simulator more times than I could count. He was my main rival. "Ha! Beat that, Jeff!" he gloated. He pulled down on his eyelid and stuck his tongue out at me. If I could just wrap my hands around his neck.... "Mott, Jeff." Yes! I grinned at Olon, and returned the insulting face. He just slumped into his seat and muttered. Dr. Gray had finished reading the names. "Remember, those of you who didn't pass, must sign up to take the course again if you wish. For those of you who did pass, return tomorrow to receive your diplomas and starter Pokémon." I grinned, and left the class. Nick, Ryan, Nathan and I met up out in the hall. "So, what Pokémon will you guys pick?" I asked excitedly. "If they have one, I want a Squirtle!" Nathan said. "I hope they have a Psyduck." Ryan said, a little quiet. "A Psyduck? Why'd you want a Pokémon like that?" I inquired. "I just like stupid Pokémon, don't ask me why!" Ryan glared at me. "Well, I would like a Scyther." Nick stated. "I'm hoping for a Farfetch'd!" I grinned. "Well, whatever Pokémon you pick, I'll still beat you!" a voice came. "Grrr! Olon!" I growled. "Yep! So, you passed Jeff. Looks like we're rivals. I can't wait to get my Pokémon and have it beat yours!" Olon laughed and walked off. "Just you wait, Olon. Just you wait." I said to myself. "So, Jeff, we're going together on the journey, right?" Nathan said to me. "Oh, of course!" I smiled at him. "Ryan and I will go off on our own, and maybe we'll meet up along the way?" Nick asked. "Sure we will!" Nathan stated. "Well, I'm heading home to take a few shots on the simulator. See you guys later!" I said, walking off. For me, tomorrow couldn't come soon enough. To Be Continued
