Rival Trainers Battle Clash! Chapter 5 by Jam SBKidJamX@aol.com So, who's this girl with the Jigglypuff? Why does she think Jeff and Nathan are trying to steal her Tauros? Let's find out shall we, as we read Chapter 5 of Rival Trainers Battle Clash! "Farfetch'd, dodge that Mega Punch!" I yelled as the girl's Jigglypuff charged at Farfetch'd and let loose with a very weak-looking but very strong Mega Punch. Luckily, Farfetch'd was too fast for Jigglypuff and dodged to the side. "Now Farfetch'd, Slash!" I commanded. Farfetch'd leaned back and smacked Jigglypuff with it's leek. The battle went on like this for a while until a man came out of the house. "What's going on here? Candice, why are you fighting this boy?" he asked. "Daddy, these two are the people who've been swiping our Oddish! And now they've came back for our Tauros!" the girl, named Candice, said. "Puff!" her Jigglypuff chimed in. Nathan turned to the man. "Sir, I can assure you, we're not these thieves she believes we are. We came over here looking for food and maybe a place to stay, and we couldn't find anyone, so we looked in the barn, and saw your Tauros. We figured that since no one was around that they didn't belong to anybody. It was all just a misunderstanding." Nathan explained. I smiled. Nathan was always good at calming people down. "I see. I'm sorry for the mix-up. And Candice..." her father said, turning to her. "You shouldn't be so impulsive and attack someone like that." "Sorry, Daddy." she said, mumbling. "Come inside, boys, and tell us a little more about yourselves." "...and that's why we're here." I said, finishing our story. I had to tell it between bites, because it turned out that Candice's mom was a superb cook. It was some of the best food I'd ever had. Of course, food always tasted good to me but this was definately above average. "Well, I'm sorry about the whole misunderstanding earlier. Y'see, as of late, we've been having Pokémon stolen from our ranch. We mostly raise Oddish and Gloom here, and some Tauros. They've been disappearing and we're concerned. We don't know what to do." Candice explained. "Well, we can help you. We'll keep an eye out for them tonight, and we'll stop 'em." Nathan offered. "Would you?" Candice's mom asked. "We'd be so grateful!" "Sure we will! It's the least we can do after you gave us this great meal!" I said. "Jeff, you think any meal is a great meal." Nathan grinned. Laughter ensued. Nathan and I sat outside the house, in a place hidden by the night shadows but where we could still get a good look at the garden where the Oddish and Gloom grow. I looked over at Nathan. "I hope they show up, I want a fight." I said. Nathan shook his head. "Jeff, is fighting ALL that matters to you?" "That's what Pokémon Training is about, isn't it?" "Well, yeah, but it's also about helping a Pokémon to grow correctly and to teach it stuff." "Yeah, I guess you're..." I was about to say right, but Nathan cut me off with a sharp "Quiet!" and pointed over to the garden. I saw five figures slinking through the garden, snatching Oddish and Gloom left and right. They seemed to be dressed in their own individual attire: one in red, one in black, one in pink, one in green, and one in yellow. They worked fast, but they weren't coordinated very well. They were pretty noisy too. "Ow! You stepped on my foot, you idiot!" the green one said. "Sorry! But it's kind of hard to see in the dark." the yellow one said. "Gee, you think? Why, if I knew where you were right now..." the green one shot back. "Shaddup, both of ya! Hurry up and steal s'more of these Oddish!" the red one said. I stood up. "Hold it right there!" I yelled, shining a flashlight on them. They all said "Huh?" at the same time and turned towards me. "Someone's here!" the green one said, panicked. "What should we do?" the pink one said. "Ummm...I don't know!" the red one admitted. "Who are you and why are you stealing these Oddish and Gloom?" Nathan demanded. "Who are we? You mean you haven't heard of us?" the black one said. Nathan and I shook our heads. "Well, let's introduce ourselves!" Suddenly, they all took up their own individual pose. "We fight for evil!" "We live for disorder!" "We struggle for chaos!" "We strive for despair!" "We like what we do!" "Red!" "Black!" "Pink!" "Yellow!" "Green!" "We are..." "THE ROCKET RANGERS!" they all said in unison. Nathan and I stood there for a moment, then burst out laughing. "What's so funny?" Red asked. "What the heck was THAT?!" I asked, inbetween laughing. "That had to be the stupidest thing I'd ever seen!" Nathan said, agreeing. "See if this is so funny!" Pink said, throwing a rock that connected with my forehead. "Owwww!" I cried out. "Enough of this! Yellow, Green, Pink! You take care of these two. Black and I will return the loot to base." "Right!" the three yelled. They each tossed out their own Pokémon. "I call Magnemite!" "Go, Paras!" "I choose you, Clefairy!" The 3 Pokémon materialized. Nathan threw out Squirtle and I chose Farfetch'd. Candice had heard all the commotion and rushed out to see what the matter was. When she saw the battle, she called for her Jigglypuff. It was an even match now. 3 on 3. "Nathan, you take the Paras. I've got the Magnemite. Candice, take the Clefairy." I said. They nodded and the battle began. "Jigglypuff, Slam!" "Magnemite, Thundershock!" "Squirtle, Water Gun!" The battle went on for a while, and the Rangers' Pokémon seemed to be gaining ground. Until Candice's dad rode out on a Tauros and gave them a new challenge. "Candice, Jeff, Nathan! Go stop the other two, I'll hold these 3 off!" he yelled. We left him to fight the 3 Rangers. I wasn't in the best shape so Candice and Nathan were way ahead of me. As a matter of fact, when they caught up with Red and Black, I couldn't even see them anymore because of the darkness. When I came upon the battle, however, I could see that Nathan and Candice were losing. Jigglypuff lay on the ground, hurt from an Ember Attack by Red's Growlithe. Squirtle was having a hard time with Black's Persian. But Squirtle was able to KO Persian by using a Flying Tackle. Jigglypuff, however, was in great danger from Red's Growlithe, who was preparing to use a Flamethrower. I quickly sent in my Farfetch'd and KO'd the Growlithe. Suddenly, Yellow, Pink, and Green ran up to Red and Black. "Yo, Red!" Yellow shouted. "We lost the battle!" "What?!" Red yelled. "Well, that Tauros was really hard..." Green whined. Red was about to reprimand Green for losing when he realized his Growlithe had fainted. He looked up at me, Nathan, and Candice. We didn't look all that happy. "Drop back!" Red yelled, dropping the bag full of Oddish and running for it. The others followed. I picked up the bag. "Well, we got 'em back!" I said. Candice and Nathan cheered and we headed back to the farm. The next morning, Nathan and I were packing up to leave when Candice walked in. "Hi, Jeff and Nathan." she said, smiling. "Hey Candice." we said. "Jeff, I want to thank you for saving Jigglypuff last night." she started. "Oh, it was no problem. Always ready to help a Pokémon." I said. "I think Jigglypuff should go with you. She really seems to like you, and she'd be a great help on your journey." she said. "Really? That'd be great!" I said, smiling. Jigglypuff walked into the room and hugged my leg. "See? I think it wants to go too." Candice said, smiling. I thanked her and put Jigglypuff in a PokéBall. Nathan and I started down the path. Candice and her family waved goodbye to us, as they faded into the distance. "So, Jeff, I think Candice kinda liked you." Nathan said, elbowing me in the side. "Wh-what? You must be joking. She was only being nice." I said. "Ha! That blush on your face tells me otherwise." Nathan pointed out. "C'mon Nathan, she didn't like me." I insisted. "Well, maybe if she didn't like you, I think you liked her." he suggested. "Nah." I said, trying to act nonchalant. "Whatever." Nathan said, dropping the subject. But under his breath he said "Ladies' man." "I heard that!" I yelled. I started to chase Nathan down the road, but gave up after 5 seconds of running. We were having a great time on our adventure. That stop at Candice's house kind of jump-started it. Those Rocket Rangers were something else, too. What a riot. I hoped we'd run into them again. But I turned toward the future, and where we were headed next. Bloody Rose Forest. I hoped the name was just that: a name. To Be Continued....
