Rival Trainers Battle Clash! Chapter 6 by Jam SBKidJamX@aol.com hometown.aol.com/sbkidjamx/Jeffpage.html Last time, our heroes(should we call them heroes?) encountered a girl who was having troubles with her Oddish being stolen by a group of thieves. These thieves were revealed to be a group called the Rocket Rangers, who sneak about the land stealing Pokémon wherever they can. They were defeated quite easily, however. Now, our two intrepid heroes(I really don't think we should call them heroes...or intrepid) have their sights set on Bloody Rose Forest, for beyond that lays Skyhigh City, and their first Gym Battle. Let's join in on them, shall we? "What do you think the Bloody Rose Forest is like, Nathan?" I asked. "I don't know, to tell the truth. I hear it's pretty tame. Maybe we'll catch some Pokémon in there." he replied. "Maybe so. I just want to get to Skyhigh City, so I can battle the Gym Leader for a Badge. Say, do you know what Badge they've got in Skyhigh City?" I inquired. "Nope, don't know. Let's hope it's something cool. But even if it isn't, a Badge is a Badge, and we need at least 8 to enter the Pokémon League. That's our ultimate goal, isn't it?" Nathan explained. "Yep, sure is! Heheh, I can see it now! The roaring crowds, the spotlights shining down, the confetti being thrown about..." I drifted into a daydream but was suddenly given a rude awakening. "Hold it right there!" a voice yelled at me. I quickly snapped back to reality and searched for the owner of the voice. He came walking up to me, a guy about my age, and he had a look of determination upon his sly face. "You care for a match?" he asked, holding up a PokéBall. "Oh, you bet!" I quickly agreed. "Jeff, what about Skyhigh City?" Nathan asked. "Aw, that can wait! I never turn down a match." "Maybe you should learn to." "Enough with the chit-chat! My name's Jake and I'm ready to battle whenever you are!" "Fine then! I'm Jeff! Let's get it on!" Jake threw the PokéBall he was holding, and a Mankey emerged from it. I thought this was as good a time as any to try out my new Jigglypuff's abilties, so I called upon her. "A Jigglypuff? Ha! Watch my Mankey punch it to pieces!" Jake boasted. "I wouldn't be so sure about that! My Jigglypuff packs a powerful punch!" I said. "Mankey, Karate Chop!" Jake commanded. Mankey charged forward, bringing his hand in a downward arc. Jigglypuff quickly dodged to the side, and Mankey's hand struck the ground where she had been before, causing a large mark to be scraped into the ground. "Jigglypuff, use your Slam!" Jigglypuff quickly brought one of it's tiny feet up and slammed it into Mankey's back, sending him sprawling to the ground. Mankey quickly recovered and stood ready for his next command. "Mankey, Fury Swipes!" Mankey quickly lept forward, delivering a series of painful looking swipes to Jigglypuff, which caused her to roll backwards and skid to a stop. But thankfully, she recovered. "Jigglypuff, Seismic Toss!" I said. Jigglypuff quickly rushed over to Mankey, and with a surprising amount of strength, lifted him above her. She then leaped into the air, and threw the bewildered Mankey at the ground, causing him to faint. I grinned. "Great job, Jigglypuff!" I said, commending it. Jigglypuff smiled, proud of it's abilities. "I was sure I was able to win!" Jake said, whining. He recalled Mankey into his PokéBall. He looked at me. "You're a good trainer. Maybe we'll meet again at the League." "Maybe we will." I said. Jake nodded to me and set off down another road, opposite of where I was going. "Jeff, are you done yet?" Nathan asked. I nodded to him and we continued on for Bloody Rose Forest. Bloody Rose Forest wasn't nearly as foreboding as I had pictured it to be. As a matter of fact, I bet that if someone wanted to, they could build a cabin out here and live a long and prosperous life. I looked over to Nathan. "Pretty calm, huh?" I asked. He just nodded. I think he was thinking about something else. We trudged down the path, until Nathan stopped me and pointed over to a nearby patch of grass. There, in the grass, was a Bellsprout, just sitting out in the open. "Sweet, a Bellsprout!" I said. I reached for a PokéBall, but Nathan stopped me. "Jeff, you got the last Pokémon! I want this one!" he said. I didn't like giving up a Pokémon, but he was right, so I let him take it. He drew a PokéBall and, with a great amount of determination I might add, threw it at the Bellsprout. The Bellsprout, completely unaware of it's surroundings, quickly came back to reality and smacked the Ball back to Nathan with one of it's leaves. Nathan sighed. "Looks like I'm gonna have to fight for this one." he said, and tossed out Squirtle. "Squirtle, Tackle!" he commanded, and Squirtle charged at Bellsprout, slamming into it and knocking it to the ground. He then told Squirtle to blast it with Water Gun, which it did. The Bellsprout was now dazed and soaked, and Nathan thought it an opportune time to catch it. He threw the PokéBall at it, and this time it stayed in. "Nice going, Nathan!" I said, congratulating him. He held the PokéBall up high, smiling. He then clipped it to his belt. "Shall we continue?" he asked. I nodded and we went along our way. The Bloody Rose Forest was certainly a very large forest. It was an hour or two later and we were still in the thick of it. I was getting very tired(I told you I wasn't in the best of shape) and Nathan was as well. We decided to rest up for a little. "So, Nathan, how do you like your new Bellsprout?" I asked. "It's pretty cool, I've always liked Bellsprout, ever since I saw a Bellsprout defeat both a Bulbasaur AND a Pikachu at a Pokémon League competition one year. But it lost to a Muk." he said. "I saw that. It was just one Body Slam, and *BOOM!* It was over." I said. "Yeah, but that won't happen to my Bellsprout!" Nathan said, triumphantly. I just sighed. We were about ready to get moving again when two voices yelled around us. "We strive for despair!" "We like what we do!" "Yellow!" "Green!" "We are..." "THE ROCKET RANGERS!" Nathan and I looked at each other. It was two of those jokers from that group of thieves. Yellow and Green jumped down from their perches in the trees and faced us. "Okay, what do you want?" I asked. "We're here to avenge and uphold the honor of the Rocket Rangers!" Green said. "You guys made idiots out of us back at that farm, and now we're gonna set you straight!" Yellow said. "You don't need our help to make you idiots." Nathan smirked. "Shut up! We're gonna fight you and we're gonna win!" Yellow said. "And steal your Pokémon!" Green added. "Fine then, we're up for it!" I said, drawing Farfetch'd's PokéBall. "Go, Magnemite!" "Go, Paras!" "Go, Farfetch'd!" "Go, Bellsprout!" Nathan was using his Bellsprout. I hoped it would do good in battle. Magnemite started off by firing a bolt of lighting at Farfetch'd, which he easily dodged. Farfetch'd then ran up to Magnemite and whacked it a few times with it's leek, but it had no effect. Magnemite zapped Farfetch'd and Paralyzed him. Paras was making a joke of Bellsprout. It was easily beating up the poor and underdeveloped Pokémon, much to Nathan's dismay. It continued to pound him with Scratch and Leech Life attacks. "Ha! You guys aren't so tough now!" Yellow boasted. I winced each time Farfetch'd got zapped. He couldn't do anything about it! He was just lying there, being pumped full of volts by Yellow's Magnemite. It was embarrassing. And poor Bellsprout continued to be utterly destroyed by Green's Paras. We were being humiliated. Suddenly, Bellsprout started to glow green. He suddenly kicked Paras with one of his tiny, root-like feet much to Paras' surprise. He then spun around and whipped two of his leaves at the Rangers' Pokémon. One hit Paras, knocking him out, and the other hit Magnemite, knocking him out of the air. Yellow and Green just stood there with their mouths hanging open, before deciding to recall their Pokémon and run. Nathan and I cheered. "Wow, Bellsprout, I didn't know you had such a great attack! What was that, anyways?" I asked. "That was Razor Leaf! It's a really effective attack, and it totally whomped those guys!" Nathan said. "Bell!" Bellsprout said, happy of it's achievment. I recalled Farfetch'd, but Nathan thought Bellsprout should stay out a little longer, as a treat for defeating the Rangers. He was constantly praising it, even as the forest ended and Skyhigh City could be seen. We'd finally made it! Nathan, Bellsprout and I cheered and we ran into the city, eager to rest up and challenge the Gym Leader. To Be Continued...
