Pokemon Legend By Jules Chapter 2 It wasn’t even three minutes after they left the Lab before Jack grew extremely annoyed. “That’s it, I can’t take this anymore!” Jack yelled, “I’m tired of you babbling about your stupid scientific discoveries.” “Someone’s jealous.” John muttered. “Not jealous John just annoyed!” Jack exclaimed, “I’m flying solo! I don’t need any of you! You guys are just holding me back!” “Jack, you’ve been told to stay with me and John from your own grandfather.” Julie said, “You can’t just leave. Besides, what if I need extra protection?” “I really don’t give a crap what you or Old Man Oak says!” Jack argued, “I’ll smell you two later!” Jack ran off in the distance. “Does he always act like that?” Julie asked John. “Since the very day he was born.” John remarked, “For about a good twelve years I’ve had to deal with it. Come to think of it, I’ve only been around for twelve years.” “I’m twelve also.” Julie replied, “I never really did make friends at my old school at Cinnabar Island. They always called me ‘bookworm’ or ‘nerd’, but you haven’t said anything like that so far.” John smiled and Julie moved closer to him. Johns heart began to pump a little faster and he felt himself begin to sweat. “Is something wrong John?” Julie asked and grasped his hand. John was almost at a loss for words until he finally said: “Nothing’s wrong Julie. I just think that it’s kind of weird that some people would call you those names, because you really don’t seem to be a geeky person to me. Actually, I think you look~ I uh mean um…” “What is it John, are you nervous?” Julie questioned and giggled, “Well you shouldn’t be.” “I’m not!” John said in an extremely nervous tone. “It’s ok, I know how it is.” Julie replied and looked up to the afternoon sky, “Living in a small town, where there aren’t a lot of girls around could really be tough on a guys mind.” “Hey, what’s that supposed to mean, Pallet Town is a nice place!” John exclaimed and Julie burst out laughing. They finally arrived at Viridian City where they hear a loud cry. “Oh no, someone’s in trouble, let’s go!” John exclaimed and yanked Julie along with him. They followed sound of the loud cry and found an elderly man lying on the ground. “Ohh…I need coffee.” The bearded man complained, “You can’t pass, I’m in pain!” A woman soon walked over by him. “Ignore him, he’s just really cranky.” She said, “He collapsed all of a sudden, I witnessed it.” “I’ll get him some coffee.” Julie claimed, and went inside the mans house to make coffee. “While your out here sunny boy, would you mind helping me up?” The man asked. “Uhh sure.” John replied and helped the man to his feet. Julie came rushing out with the coffee. “Here’s the coffee you asked for sir.” Julie said and gave the man the coffee. The elderly man sipped the coffee and was already wired. “Yowza, that’s some coffee!” the man yelled and jumped around all over the place, “It almost burnt my tongue!” John and Julie glanced at each other and then back at the old man. Thank you, for helping me out. Now what can I do for you?” the man asked. “Umm, I was wondering if you knew where the Pokemon League is.” John said, “So can you tell us?” Julie nudged John on his shoulder. “Oww, why’d you do that Julie?” John asked. “That’s way too much to ask this poor man.” Julie replied, “He must be overwhelmed from his fall.” “Actually I’m ok.” The man stated, “The Pokemon league is about a mile west of here. Not all that far if you walk pretty fast.” “That’s it?” John asked, and the man nodded his head, “Wow, I’ll become a master before ya know it!” “John you can’t be serious right?” Julie questioned, “From my studies you need badges to advance into the Pokemon League, and you don’t have a single badge! John…?” John already ran off without hearing Julie. “John come back, don’t go!” John continued to dash through the tall grass as Julie chased after him. Suddenly a wild Pokemon appeared! “Finally, my chance to catch a Pokemon!” John exclaimed, “Weaken it Flame!” John tossed a pokeball and Flame appeared; the wild Pokemon was a Mankey. Julie just caught up to him out of breath. “Flame, use scratch!” John yelled out. Flame lunged forward and scratched Mankey with its claws. Mankey used tail whip which lowered Flames defense. “Give it one more scratch Flame.” Flame scratched it again to weaken it, and John threw one of the pokeballs that Professor Oaks Aid gave to him towards the Mankey. The wild Mankey wobbled inside the pokeball but finally gave up. “Yeah, I caught my first Pokemon!” John exclaimed, and Julie wrote down some notes. “John, you’re making a big mistake by going to the Pokemon League this early.” Julie said to John, “You have no badges!” “I need badges?” John asked her, and Julie nodded her head, “Oh, now you tell me!” “I told you before!” Right after that, Jack appeared from the side. “Ha, don’t tell me you fools are going to the Pokemon League!” Jack exclaimed, “Trust me, I’ve tried getting in, damn security… I know you don’t have 8 badges already John!” John clenched his fists. “Before I was weak when I last battled you in the lab, but now I’m stronger and I have more Pokemon this time! You have no chance against me John!” “Who said he’s gonna battle you?” Julie questioned, “What if I battle you Jack? We can soon see who the superior trainer is!” Julie handed John her notepad, and Jack laughed hysterically. “Are you serious?! You, want to challenge me?!” Jack continued to laugh, “Don’t waste my time! You’re just a geeky little girl, and that measly Bulbasaur will barely have any effect on my Squirtle!” “Are you sure you want to go through with this Julie?” John asked, “You don’t have to do it for my sake, and you don’t have to prove anything to any of us.” “Yeah, I’d listen to your dumb friend, because you’re gonna get creamed by my brute team!” “I’m not doing this for you John.” Julie said, “I’m doing this to shut him up, and to prove that female trainers can battle also!” “Ha, name one decent female trainer!” Jack exclaimed, “Can you do it?” “Misty, Erika, Sabrina, I’ve studied they’re history as gym leaders!” Julie replied, “A decent trainer, well that would be me! You’re going down Jack!” “You’re on!” Jack replied. “Enough freakin’ trash talk and get on with the battle!” John yelled, “Sheesh, it’s like watching a freakin’ soap opera!” Chapter 5 Jack and Julie glared at each other before the match finally began. “Go, Squirtle!” “Go, Bulby!” “Squirtle tackle attack!” Jack exclaimed, and Squirtle attacked Bulby knocking her down. “Bulby, tackle it back!” Julie exclaimed, and Bulby did just that. They went back and forth at each other, and Bulby wasn’t looking too good. Squirtle was charging in for the final blow, but Bulby dodged it. Squirtle used its effective Water Gun at Bulby, and Bulby withstood the force of water by charging Squirtle with a tackle attack. It was an amazing sight as the critical hit took Squirtle down instantly! “Just luck, that’s all.” Jack muttered, and threw his next Pokemon into the fight, pidgey. Julie knew Bulby was weak, but she had no other Pokemon. Bulby kept fighting and resisted all the attacks Pidgey threw at her. In the end Bulby took Pidgey out with ease. “My last one.” Jack said, and it was a rattata. Bulby didn’t look like she could take another hit, so she used all her energy in one forceful attack. Jacks rattata charged at Bulby also, and it was a double knock-out. “I guess no one wins.” Julie said, “Good battle though.” Julie reached out for a handshake, but Jack turned away. “How anti-climatic.” John commented, “Bulby almost had it though.” “Well, at least I didn’t lose to you Julie.” Jack said, “I’ll be back though, don’t you worry!” Jack ran off again. “Whew, glad he’s gone.” John sighed, “Now we can keep going.” John and Julie caught a few pokemon around the area, went to the Pokemon Center to heal their pokemon, and then continued their quest by heading throughout Viridian Forest. John managed to get even more pokemon, battle a few weak trainers, while Julie took notes and observed the forest environment and bug pokemon. Ever since the battle with Jack, her new main focus was to beat him next time, but she couldn’t win alone with just Bulby. So John helped her a bit by catching some bug-pokemon for her along the way. “John, it’s really dark in this forest.” Julie said. “No kidding, but don’t worry, I think we’re almost through.” John replied. “You’re ok right?” “Yeah, I think so…but can I ask a favor of you?” Julie asked. “Sure, anything.” John replied cheerily. “Hold my hand.” “Huh-what?!” John blabbed, “Oh, uh, sure I guess.” John became self-conscious just like before at Route 1 when he first held her hand. He held her hand anyways. “Oh no, what is it now John?” Julie asked and let go of his sweaty palms, “You’re all sweaty again.” “Yeah, so I’m sweaty. I always get sweaty when I’m walking in a dark forest crawling with weird bug pokemon. Doesn’t everyone?” Julie laughed. “It’s not really all that funny, Julie.” John added. “No John, I don’t think it’s the forest or the bug pokemon that seem to be affecting you.” Julie responded, “It’s something completely different.” She rested her arm around Johns shoulder and John felt tingling all over. “Julie, I-uh, can’t see the map with your hand like that.” John said and Julie put her arm to her side. As John looked at the map, Julie seemed to be observing John. “Ok, what do you want with me?” John exclaimed, “You’re trying to psyche me out or something, isn’t that it?” “What’re you talking about John, I’m not trying to do anything.” Julie said and backed away. John sighed and then said: “Sorry, I guess I just kinda freaked out.” “It’s ok, nothing happened…” It took a while to get out of the forest, but they managed to survive. The sun began to set and they continued walking down the route to Pewter City. Julie soon spotted a Pokemon Center where they could rest for the night. John and Julie walked inside where they saw dozens of trainers make their way up the escalator where beds were. A snack lounge for humans and their pokemon companions were located on the bottom floor. The nurse began dimming the lights a little so some people could rest. “It’s getting late John, we should head upstairs.” Julie told John. “Ok Julie, just wait-up for a sec ok?” John replied, “I’m busy hustling these punks in some pokemon-foosball.” Julie headed up the escalator and John soon followed, where they spotted Jack setting up his bed. “Oh great, not you two again.” Jack muttered. “Yeah, well like it or not Jack, we’re going to be bumping into each other like this a lot more frequently.” Julie remarked, “So you better start getting used to it, or I’ll call Professor Oak right now and tell him that you’re not cooperating with us!” “Whatever, Julie,” Jack replied, “but when John gives up escorting you around don’t come crying over to me!” It was a rough night for everyone, and John could barely sleep. He thought of a few plans of how he could take down Pewter City’s tough gym, leader and thought himself to sleep. End of Chapter 2
