Chapter 14 The Jr. Tournament Round 1&2

We continue our journey with Karl and Tonya who have just arrived on
Stadform Island.
"It just doesn't feel right," Karl said looking at the badge he had won a
couple days ago from Tonya dad.
"Well my dad said you had earned it," Tonya said.
"I guess but…" Karl said walking into the Pokémon Center.
"What is it?" she said.
"Well I never-" as he said this a poster caught his attention it read:
Pokémon Jr. Tournament

Attention all Pokémon Trainers:
The Jr. Tournament is being held on this island tomorrow register at the
Pokémon Center for more info.

P.S.  Don't forget about the badge requirement, and field changes.

"Are you going to enter the tournament?" Nurse Joy said walking up to
where Karl was.
"Yes I am going to enter the tournament," Karl said with a clinched fist.
"Well let me get you registered," she said.  "Follow me."
Karl and Tonya followed her to the front desk where she took Karl's
Pokémon to have checked up and his Pokédex to register him.
"I see that you have four badges," she said.  "You will be competing
against trainer with the same amount of badges."
"That's good," Tonya said.
After Karl had been registered and his Pokémon healed and returned he
went out side and released all his Pokémon.
"Charmander."
"Sandshrew."
"Pikachu."
"Bulbasaur."
"Scizor."
"Whirl."
"Okay everyone listen up," Karl started to say until Scizor decided to take
a nap, Bulbasaur decided to tickle Sandshrew and Pikachu with its Vines.  
The
only Pokémon who actually listen to Karl was Poliwhirl and Charmander.
"That is so pathetic," Tonya said laughing at Karl and his Pokémon.
"Hey your Pokémon aren't any better," Karl said.
"You wanna bet," Tonya said pulling out her Pokéballs and throwing them.
"Vul."
"Pidgeotto."
"Miltank."
"NIDOOOO!!!" her Nidoking yelled scaring Flicker and making her run
behind her trainer.
"Mil," Tonya cow Pokémon yelled as it ran up and bear hugged Tonya
sucking all the life out of her.  Pidgeotto just flew up into a tree and 
perched on a
branch and started to take a nap.
"Ha that is so pathetic," Karl said imitated Tonya.
"Return," Tonya grunted as she called back Miltank.
"Okay according to this the first field we fight on is the Fire Field," Karl 
said
reading the Jr. Tournament Field Guide.
"Well I guess Bulbasaur is out of the picture," Tonya said.
"You're right, and so is Scizor," Karl said.
"Sciz?" Karl Pokémon said waking up for a second it looked around then
went back to sleep.
"Well I still have a good variety to choose from," Karl stated.  "Charmander
because it is a fire type, Poliwhirl she has the advantage over Fire 
Pokémon,
Pikachu and Sandshrew.
"Good luck your going to need it," Tonya said calling back her Pokémon.
"I'm turning in."
"Okay," Karl said.


The next day Karl walked into the fire stadium.  It was a huge stadium with
a protective barrier dividing the crowd and the stadium.  He walked towards 
the
trainer's box where the referee and his opponent were.
"This battle is between Karl Rennie and Joe Castill you will each use three
Pokémon, the first trainer to make all three of their opponents Pokémon 
faint
wins the match," the ref said.
"Yes," Karl said.
"Yes," Joe also said.  Then he and the ref walked to their trainers box.
"This first match in the Jr. Tournament is about to begin," the announcer
said.
"Go," Karl said throwing his first Pokéball.
"Pikachu!" his electric Pokémon said.
A pillar of fire exploded from the ground right in front of Pikachu.
"Pika!!" the Pokémon said jumping back.
"Watch out for the fire," Karl said forgetting about it.
"Go!" Joe said throwing his Pokéball.
"Rhy," his Pokémon yelled.
"What kind of Pokémon is that?" Karl said pulling out his Pokédex.
<Rhyhorn A Spikes Pokémon. Found only in the Safari Zone. Rhyhorn's
rock hard skin gives it high HP and Defense. It'll be a tough one to knock 
out just
with normal attacks. Its massive bones are 1,000 times harder than human
bones. It can easily knock a trailer flying. Rhyhorn's bones are one 
thousand
times denser than a human's, giving it incredible physical power and 
endurance.

"This battle isn't good for Karl, his Pikachu has a disadvantage against the
strong Rhyhorn," the announcer said.
"Pikachu lets use Double Team!"
"Rhyhorn Horn Attack!"
Pikachu started off first with a magnificent Double Team Attack multiplying
into 3 copies.
"Rhy?" Rhyhorn said stop charging and looking at the Three Pikachus.
"Don't let it fool you Rhyhorn!" Joe yelled.
All of a sudden a pillar of flames explode out of the ground engulfing
Rhyhorn.
"Pikachu quick return," Karl said calling back his Pokémon.
"Karl calls back his Pikachu which is a very good strategy," the announcer
said.
"I use you later," Karl said putting Pikachu's Pokéball away and pulling out
Poliwhirl's purple and white Pokéball and throwing it.
"Whirl!" she said.
"Rhyhorn get out of the fire!" Joe yelled.  "And use Take Down!"
"Rhy," the Pokémon said running out of the fire aimed right at Poliwhirl.
"Jump!" Karl yelled.
"Whirl," his Pokémon yelled jumping into the air dodging the attack.
"NOW WATER GUN!" Karl yelled.
"WHIRL!" she yelled releasing a big pillar of Water Gun knocking out
Rhyhorn.
"Wow in a turn of events, Karl has powered back and knocked out
Rhyhorn," the announcer said.
"Alright!" Tonya yelled from the crowed.
"Return Rhyhorn," Joe said calling back his Pokémon.
"Poliwhirl, keep it up!" Karl yelled to his Pokémon.
"I choose you!" Joe said throwing his next Pokéball.
"Electabuzz," his Pokémon yelled.
"Poliwhirl return!" Karl said calling back his Pokémon.  "Now go!"
"Pikachu," his Pokémon yelled.
"Electabuzz is a tough electric Pokémon to handle Pikachu better be
careful," the announcer said.
"Pikachu Thunderbolt!" Karl yelled.
"Pikachu!" his Pokémon yelled using Thunderbolt on Electabuzz who
absorbed the electricity.
"Heh, thanks for the power up," Joe said smiling.  "Electabuzz Quick
Attack!"
"ELEC!" his Pokémon yelled charging Pikachu.
"Pikachu look out!" Karl yelled.
But Electabuzz was to fast he hit Pikachu head on knocking the Pokémon
down then followed up with a Thunderpunch.
"CHUU!!" his Pokémon yelled in pain.
"Pikachu try rolling away!" Karl yelled.
Pikachu rolled away and hit Electabuzz in the face with its tail.
"Your Tail Whip attack isn't going to work," Joe said.  "Electabuzz
Thunderbolt!"
"Pikachu use Agility!" Karl yelled.
"Electabuzz's Thunderbolt attack isn't fast enough to hit Pikachu, when it
is using Agility, Joe needs to come up with another attack," the announcer 
said.
All of a sudden pillars of fire exploded out of the ground and Pikachu was
getting extremely tired of dodging both the fire and the electricity that it 
eventually
got hit with a Thunderbolt that knocked him back into a pillar of fire.
"Pikachu!" Karl yelled.  When the fire died down he was covered in burn
marks.
"Pikachu is unable to battle Electabuzz is the winner," the refree said.
"Pikachu return," Karl said calling him back.
"Good job Electabuzz," Joe said encouraging his Pokémon.
"Karl's Pikachu did a good job of hold on; but in the end, the battle ground
and Electabuzz proved to be too much."
"Karl hang in there," Tonya said from the stands.
Electabuzz is an electric type I can't go with Poliwhirl I need someone
fresh, Karl thought.
"Go!" he yelled throwing a Pokéball.
"Charmander," his first Pokémon said.
"Karl has chosen a Charmander, a fire Pokémon which likes…well fire."
"Charmander, Flamethrower!" Karl yelled.
"Electabuzz use Thundershock!" Joe yelled.
The two attacks canceled each other out.
"Electabuzz, Body Slam!"
"Charmander, hide in the fire!" Karl yelled.
"Char," the Pokémon said jumping into the fire.
"Electabuzz stop!"
Electabuzz stopped its attack.
"Ha, now how are you going to find Charmander?" Karl said taunting his
opponent.
"Just watch me," Joe said.  "Electabuzz fill the whole room with a Thunder
Attack!"
"Electabuzz," the Pokémon said unleashing a powerful Thunder Attack
that hit everything.
"Charmander!" Karl yelled.
"Char," the Pokémon said appearing when all the smoked cleared.
"Electabuzz may have destroyed all of the pyrotechnics where
Charmander could have been hiding but it used up all its electricity in the
process."
"Charmander finish it off with a Flamethrower!" Karl yelled.
"Charmander!!" his fire Pokémon said engulfing Electabuzz knocking the
Pokémon out.
"Electabuzz is unable to battle Charmander is the winner!" the referee
said.
"In a turn of events, Charmander has taken out Electabuzz Joe only has
one Pokémon he better make it count."
"Return," Joe said calling back his Pokémon.
"Good job Charmander!" Karl said.
"I hope your Charmander is water proof," Joe said throwing his last
Pokéball.
"Wartortle," the turtle Pokémon said.
Wartortle?" Karl said pulling out his Pokédex.
<Wartortle A Turtle Pokémon. An older, more experienced turtle, Wartortle
is more accomplished in the water than Squirtle. In fact, it often hides 
underwater
to stalk unwary prey. His ears and tail are longer than Squirtle's and his 
mouth is
larger. Wartortle tend to be more confident in the water than Squirtle 
because
their large rudder-like ears help them to maneuver. Squirtle and Wartortle's
attacks come from their mouths. >
"Charmander return," Karl said calling back his Pokémon.
"Coward," Joe whispered under his breath.
"Go," Karl said throwing Poliwhirl's Pokéball.
"Whirl," she said.
"This should be an interesting match with the fire gone the only way to win
is in a straight up Pokémon battle."
"Wartortle Water Gun," Joe yelled.
"Poliwhirl dodge it," Karl yelled.
Poliwhirl jumped out of the way of the attack and used Double Slap
smacking Wartortle left and right.
"Wartortle don't take that use Mega Punch!" Joe yelled.
"War," the Pokémon said pulling back and hitting Poliwhirl in the stomach
with Mega Punch the Pokémon flew back and crashed on the ground.
"Poliwhirl please get up," Karl pleaded.
"Whirl," the Pokémon said slowly getting up.
"Wartortle don't give it a chance use Bubblebeam," Joe yelled.
"Poliwhirl look out!"
"Poli," the Pokémon yelled jumping out of the way of the Bubblebeam
attack.
"Quick!  Use Body Slam!" Joe yelled.
"Tortle!" the Pokémon said slamming on top of Poliwhirl.
"Poliwhirl!" Karl yelled.
"Wartortle is using its strong shell to dominate over Poliwhirl."
"Poliwhirl use Psychic!" Karl yelled.
"Poliwhirl," the Pokémon said who started to glow blue then all of a
sudden Wartortle was lift up in the air.
"War?" the Pokémon said.
"Slam it!" Karl yelled.
"WHIRL!" the Pokémon yelled slamming the turtle Pokémon on the floor.
"Wartortle please get up!" Joe yelled.
"War," the Pokémon said weakling as it tried to stand up then it fainted.
"Wartortle is unable to battle, Poliwhirl wins the round.  Since Joe has
used the required three Pokémon, Karl is the winner," the referee said.
"Karl has won the match!" the announcer said.
"Good job Karl," Tonya said.

Back at the Pokémon Center Karl gave Nurse Joy his Pokémon that had
fought in the match.
"Pikachu is burnt," Karl explained.
"Don't worry I will take care of it," Nurse Joy said.
"Thanks," Karl said going outside the center.
"Okay Miltank stop trying to hug everyone!" Tonya said yelling at Miltank
who was trying to hug Nidoking, she retaliated by elbowing Miltank in the 
eye.
"Mil," the Pokémon said then walked away and started to cry.
"Don't cry Miltank," Tonya said.
Karl started laughing.
"What?" Tonya said.
"Miltank is the exact opposite of you."
"What field are you fighting on tomorrow?" she asked changing the
subject.
"Ummm…the Mud Field," Karl said pulling out the guide he got from Nurse
Joy.
"What Pokémon are you going to use?" she asked petting Flicker on the
head.
"I don't know," he said.
"You don't know?" she said.
"Well I know I will be using Poliwhirl again," Karl said.
"What about Scizor?" she said.
"Scizor…yeah I could use him he does have wings," Karl said.
"You should try to keep your Pokémon out of the mud, it could give you
and advantage," Tonya said.
"That a good idea," Karl said remembering a Pokémon he could use.

The next day Karl was in his trainers box about to face off against a girl
name Jessica.
"Karl Rennie who survived I first round battle against Joe is here again to
face off in the Mud Field," the announcer said.
"The rules are the same as before," the referee said.  "Begin!"
"Okay you may have one in the first round like I did but this is as far as
your going to go," Jessica said throwing a Pokéball into the mud.
"Muk," her Pokémon said as the Pokéball flew back into her hand.
"Ewww," she said wiping the mud off it.
"Fine I choose you," Karl said opening his Pokéball in his hand.
"Poliwhirl," the Pokémon said.
"Karl is going to lead off with his Poliwhirl.  This Pokémon was the one 
that
won Karl the first round battle."
"Muk do what you do best," Jessica said.
"MUK!" her Pokémon said blending in with the mud.
"Where is it?" Karl said looking around the field.
"Ha, you didn't expect my Muk to be a challenge did you," Jessica said.
"How am I supposed to attack a Pokémon that I can't see?" Karl said.
"Karl you know its there just attack," Tonya said from the sideline she had
been allowed to be on the sideline as his "coach."
"Maybe that is how you fight, but I must see what I'm fighting!"
"Muk, Sludge," Jessica said.
"Muk!" the Pokémon said becoming visible just long enough to use
Sludge.
"Poliwhirl counter with Water Gun!" Karl yelled.
"Whirl!" she yelled using Water Gun and deflecting the attack.
"Muk surround it!" Jessica yelled.
"Poliwhirl use Water Gun on the mud make a path," Karl yelled.
"Whirl," Karl's Pokémon shouted shooting Water Gun all over the place
making a nice path in the mud.
"Muk Sludge!" Jessica yelled.
Muk popped out of the mud right behind Poliwhirl.
"Behind you!" Karl yelled.
"Whirl?" the Pokémon said looking behind it but it didn't get time to dodge
the attack.  The Sludge landed in her eyes.
"Poliwhirl!  Are you okay?" Karl asked.
"Whirl?" the Pokémon said trying to clean its eyes.
"Muk Pound it!" Jessica yelled.
"MUK!" the Pokémon yelled appearing out of the mud and repeatedly hit
Poliwhirl in the head until it fell down.
"Poliwhirl is unable to battle, this round goes to Muk," the referee said.
"Return," Karl said calling back the Pokémon.
"Muk used the mud to his advantage taking out Poliwhirl.  Karl is going to
need to use a different strategy if he is going to win," the announcer said.
"Go!" Karl said throwing his next Pokéball into the path that Poliwhirl had
created.
"Scizor!" his red metal bug yelled.
"Scizor is a tough Pokémon to take down," Tonya said.
"Muk return," she said calling back her Pokémon.  "Go!" she yelled
throwing another Pokéball.
"Cyndaquil!" her Pokémon yelled.
"Cyndaquil is a strong fire type that has a mean edge over Scizor," the
announcer said.
"Cyndaquil…" Karl said.
"Cyndaquil Flamethrower!" Jessica yelled.
"Scizor Agility!" Karl yelled.
"Scizor!" the bug Pokémon said dodging the attack.  Cyndaquil tried again
to hit Scizor but the Pokémon dodged the attack again.
"Scizor land in the mud and use Sword Dance!" Karl yelled.
"Sciz," the Pokémon said landing the mud then it started spinning faster
and faster throwing mud all over Cyndaquil.
"Quil," the Pokémon yelled as mud fell on its flame putting it out.
"Cyndaquil power up!" Jessica yelled.
"QUIL!" it yelled but the flame didn't come back on thanks to the mud.
"Cynda?"
"Wow!  Scizor's Muddy Sword's Dance put a stop to Cyndaquil's fire
advantage!" the announcer said.
"Finish it!" Tonya yelled.
"I know what I am doing!" Karl yelled at her.
"So?" she said.  "I'm your coach remember?" she said.
"Scizor," Scizor said shaking its head in shame.
"Cyndaquil Quick Attack! "Jessica yelled.
"Cynda!" it yelled charging Scizor.
It hit Scizor in the stomach but Scizor didn't flinch instead it use Metal
Claw knocking the Pokémon back.
"Quil," the Pokémon yelled as it landed in the mud.
"Return!" Jessica yelled trying to call back her Pokémon but Scizor use
Pursuit hitting Cyndaquil before it got called back and knocking it out.
"Cyndaquil is unable to battle, Scizor wins the round!" the referee said.
"Scizor took matters into his own hand taking out Cyndaquil with out the
guidance of his trainer," the announcer said.
"Huh?" Karl said turning around to see Jessica call out her next Pokémon.
"Tangela," the Pokémon yelled.
"Tangela?" Karl said pulling out his Pokédex.
<Tangela A Vine Pokémon The whole body is swathed with wide vines
that are similar to seaweed. It's vines shake as it walks. Tangela is one of 
the
shyest Pokémon. Most people refer to it as the walking plate of spaghetti, 
but it's
actually not bad. In a thick patch of grass south of Pallet Town, you may 
find a
rare Tangela. It can be extremely shy, but be patient. Tangela is worth 
searching
for. It has an excellent defense. >
"Tangela use Vine Whip!" Jessica yelled.
"Tangela," the Pokémon said trying to get unstuck from the mud.
"It looks like Tangela is stuck in the mud folks," the announcer said.
"This should be a easy round," Karl said.  "Scizor Quick Attack!"
Scizor flew towards the stuck Tangela with blinding speed and hitting the
Pokémon.
"Quick Bind!" Jessica yelled.
Before Scizor could do a U-Turn it got wrapped in Tangela's Vines.
Tangela started to squeeze Scizor as hard as it could.
"Scizor try a Slash attack," Karl yelled.
"Sciz," the Pokémon said trying to get one of it arms free but Tangela just
applied more pressure.
"Scizor is in a tight situation here folks," the announcer said.
"Karl, there is nothing you can do forfeit the match," Tonya yelled.
"Scizor return," Karl said calling back his Pokémon.
"Karl has submitted to Tangela Scizor is defeated," the referee said.
"Karl has one Pokémon left he better make it a good one," Tonya said to
herself.
"I choose you…" Karl said throwing his last Pokéball.
