The Big Idea: Part 2
by Kenshin

The next morning, Ash woke up to find that it was too early for breakfast. 'Why
did I wake up so early?' he thought. *YAWN* 'I'll just go back to sleep...' But
he soon found he couldn't drift back off. 'Oh, well. I'll just go downstairs and
call my mom. I haven't talked to her in a while, I'm and sure she's up by now.'

So Ash quietly slipped out of his room and headed downstairs to the phones.
What Ash saw when he reached the bottom of the stairs made him completely forget
his mom, however. There was a know of Jenny's and Joys at the reception desk, all
yelling at the Joy that was on duty behind it. The Joy that worked at the pokecenter
looked flustered. "No, I don't think he's....Wait, let me check which....." Joy's
head was spinning. All the Jenny's were yelling questions at her, while her relatives
were also demanding her attention. She looked like she was about to faint.

Ash was speechless. He just stood at the bottom of the stairs, frozen in place.
"What's all the noise?" said a tired voice from behind Ash. "There he is!" yelled
on of the Joys. Brock came down the stairs, eyes widening at the number of Jenny's
and Joys filling the reception area of the pokecenter. (*gasp* Brock opened his
eyes!)

Brock was quickly surrounded by the crowd and bombarded with questions. "Are you
alright?" "Where did you get hurt?" "Are you in much pain?" ...you get the idea.
Brock was stunned for a few moments, then he realized his plan had backfired. "Uh,
I'm fine..." he began, not knowing how to get out of this one. "What?" yelled all
the Jenny's in unison. "Really?" said all the Joys together.

"He-he, yeah, I'm fine. I just..uh...*sigh*...I was trying to find out if any
of you really liked me or not!" Brock finished, then cringed knowing he soon
*wouldn't* be alright anymore. The Jenny's all looked pissed. The Joys looked
stunned. "WHAT'S THE BIG IDEA GETTING US ALL WORRIED ABOUT YOU, YOU IDIOT!" a
Jenny screamed. Just as they were all pulling out various mallets, rolling pins,
police clubs, and bats, the Joy behind the counter shrieked "STOP!"

Everybody turned around and gave her a querying look. "Look, I know what Brock
did wasn't very smart, but...that was really sweet. Don't hurt the poor guy that
you all rushed here to make sure wasn't injured. I bet he's really sorry," she
said, blushing at the attention she was getting. The crowd surrounding Brock
looked a little ashamed as they realized what Joy said was true. They looked at
each other for a few minutes, then a Jenny said to Brock, "Look, we're still mad
at you for lying to us and causing us to all come here for no reason, but we'll
forgive you if you can find *one* of us who is willing to go on a date with you."

Brock turned pale. 'None of them would agree to that before, let alone now...'
He braced himself for the multitude of beatings he was about to recieve, when
he heard a voice say quietly, "I will."

"Who said that?" "Huh?" "WHAT?!" "Really, you will? I can't believe it! I have
a date! I'm saved!" Brock looked really excited, but I guess that's understandable.
"Quiet!" yelled the Jenny who addressed Brock earlier, "Who said that?" she continued.
"Ummm...I did," said the on-duty Joy. "Really?" said Brock, tears filling his eyes.
"Yes...I...I like you Brock," she stammered.

The Jenny's in the crowd looked angry, but each was grabbed by a Joy and drug out
of the pokemon center. Joy breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm glad they're gone..." she
began. "Did you really m-mean th-that?" asked Brock, who looked extremely nervous
for having talked to hundreds of Joys in the past, including this one. "Well...yes,"
she replied, "I've wrestled with this for months, but I realized I had to do something
when they were about to hurt you. I couldn't stand by and just watch, because I really
like you." "Wow, that's the first time anybody's ever said that to me," said Brock.
He looked supremely happy, but he also looked ready to faint. In a few moments he did.

"Oh, no! Brock! Don't worry, I'll get you to a bed so you can lie down!" she said
as she drug him off to an exam room.

"That was really sweet," someone behind Ash said. He was still standing frozen at the
bottom of the stairs. He turned to see Misty standing right behind him, a dreamy look
in her eyes. "You think so?" he asked, a little nervousness showing in his voice, though
she didn't really notice. "Yeah. I think it's so romantic when someone just comes out
and confesses their feelings like that."

Ash's heart started to pound. 'Is she hinting at something? What should I do? What if
she's not? ...Still, this is the perfect opportunity. I've got to do something!' Ash
tried to say something, but ended up just opening and closing his mouth a few times.
No words would come out. 'Damn, I've got to do something! I can't let this chance slip
away!'

Ash did the only thing he could think of: he grabbed Misty and kissed her for all he
was worth. Misty was so shocked that she started to struggle against him, thrashing
her arms. This caused Ash to break the kiss. After a few awkward moments of silence
Misty whispered, "Umm, Ash? What was that for?" She realized with a start that Ash
was crying. "Ash? Look at me. Why are you crying?"

'Damn, that was stupid. What was I thinking? Well, obviously I wasn't.' Ash looked
up at Misty and found she was blushing. "I..I..I like you Misty....no, I love you,"
he said. "Ash!" she said, "Why didn't you just say that? I'm sorry if I hurt your
feelings, but that kiss took me by surprise," she explained. 'Well, I guess he
does care about me after all. Yeah! I'm glad this is all settled now,' she thought.

However, Ash broke down into sobs. "Ash?" she was confused. 'Why is he crying? I
thought he just told me that he loved me. So if he loves me, and I love him, why is
he...' "Oh Ash...I love you, too," she said finally, blushing again. "Really?" he
looked up at her, "You're not just saying that to make me feel better?" He didn't
get the response he expected. Instead of a "yes" or "no" or even a "maybe", he got
a pair of lips pressed against his own and a pair of arms wrapped around him.

Ash melted, then began returning the kiss. 'She loves me...'

Brock woke up slowly. He was staring up at an unfamiliar ceiling. 'Where am I?'
he thought. Then he remembered the crowd and panicked. "Ahh! Help!" he yelled.
A face looked down at him in worry. "What is it Brock?" she asked. Joy. Joy
saved him. Joy liked him. 'Joy...'

Brock's arms shot up and pulled her down into a kiss. Her eyes widened in surprise,
but she didn't fight it. Brock didn't kiss her for long, for fear of ruining his
relationship with yet another Joy. He looked at her as she stared into his squinting
eyes. "What was that for?" she asked. "Oh...thanks for saving me," he said. "You're
welcome," she said, "Now, about our date..."
