Rocket Battle in Slowpoke Well

Kenta and Matt decided to follow the old man. They followed him out to the outskirts of town, where the two brothers saw the mysterious person in black, only that he wasn't there anymore. Matt then noticed a sign in the entrance that informed him that the place was called Slowpoke Well.

"Kenta, that doesn't really look like a well to me," said Matt.

"Well hey, there's water down there," pointed out Kenta as he went down the ladder, with Matt following suit.

When they got to the bottom, they ran over to the man who was sitting still, clutching his back in pain.

        "What happened?" asked Kenta.

"I shouted at the guard, who fell down the well," said the man, twisting his face in pain and still clutching his back.

"Hmm...that must've hurt," remarked Matt, looking up at the entrance and down to where they were.

"Then, I took a stumble down the well and slammed hard on my back. And now, I can't even move!" said the man.

"You think you'll be alright?" asked Kenta.

"Yes, probably," said the man. "If I was only able to move, I would've taught them all a lesson with my Pokémon!"

An idea suddenly struck the man.

        "You," he said to Kenta.

        "Me?"

"You have to go save the Slowpokes, there's no telling what they're doing to them! Please save them," pleaded the man.

Kenta nodded and grabbed his little brother's arm as they ran.

The well was actually a huge underground cave, with lots of open space where Pokémon lurked around, and some small lakes. Kenta and Matt climbed up a few sets of stairs until they heard voices. They quickly hid behind a rock that was near enough for them to see and hear what was going on.

"We'll be rich cutting off and selling these Slowpoketails!" exclaimed one as he grabbed a Slowpoke, and cut the white tip of its tail clean off. It didn't seem like it hurt the Pokémon, but from the look on its face, it felt very uncomfortable.

Kenta's anger rose the more they stayed there and watched the Rockets cut off their tails. He pulled out a PokéBall and looked at Matt.

"What do you think you're doing?" asked Matt.

"I'm not gonna hide here and watch them cut off any more tails," replied Kenta as he went out of his hiding place and walked over to the Grunts, who turned around and faced him, PokéBalls in their hands.

"Who are you, and what do you want?" asked one of them.

For a moment, it was as if Kenta was a different person. He smiled viciously as Matt appeared right beside him.

"Weepinbell, I choose you!" shouted Matt as he released his Grass-Type Pokémon.

Cyndaquil already jumped off of Kenta's shoulder and flared up its back, ready to fight.

        "Zubat!" shouted a female Grunt.

        "Rattata!" shouted another Grunt.

"Koffing!" shouted a third one, obviously the leader, since his Koffing was behind the two other Pokémon.

"Cyndaquil, attack with Ember!" commanded Kenta.

"Quil!" shouted the little Pokémon as it fired small bullets of flame, surrounding the Rattata for a few moments, also damaging it.

"Zubat, Wing Attack!" commanded the female Grunt.

Her Zubat flew towards Weepinbell and went through, striking Weepinbell with its wings. Weepinbell was suddenly knocked out.

"What the...?" said Matt in disbelief as he recalled his Pokémon.

Kenta growled. "Cyndaquil, knock it out with Flamethrower!"

Cyndaquil flared its back up even more, taking in air and releasing a powerful jet of flame at Zubat, knocking it out from the sky. Zubat tried to get up, but it fell back down and was knocked out.

"Pick on my little brother, and that's what you get!" said Kenta as the female Grunt backed away.

"I'm outta here!" she shouted, making a mad dash for the exit, leaving the other two, shocked by the damage the boy's Cyndaquil caused.

"Rattata, keep attacking!" said the Grunt shakily.

"Beat it to it, Cyndaquil! Quick Attack!" commanded Kenta.

Rattata performed a Quick Attack while Cyndaquil did the same. Both Pokémon disappeared and reappeared left and right, occasionally tackling each other and disappearing again. A few more hits from both sides and they finally stopped.

"Rattata, Hyper Fang!" commanded the Grunt.

Their leader decided to attack. "Koffing, Smog!" he said.

Rattata rushed at Cyndaquil with its mouth open, attacking with its two big front teeth. Koffing took in air and released a smoky cloud from its mouth at Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil was knocked down by the Rattata's attack, while the Koffing's attack blocked Cyndaquil's vision in a smokescreen.

        "Cyndaquil, Tackle!"

Cyndaquil was able to find its way out of the cloud of smokescreen and lunged towards Rattata, pinning it down. It never had a chance to attack again.

"Cyndaquil, back away and use Ember!"

Cyndaquil jumped a few feet away and fired bullets of flame that surrounded Rattata. The flames suddenly intensified and knocked out Rattata while inside the small pillar of flame.

The Grunt gasped in disbelief as he recalled his Pokémon. He also ran away, leaving the leader alone with Kenta.

        "Cyndaquil, Tackle!" commanded Kenta.

"Koffing, do your Tackle!" commanded the Grunt.

Cyndaquil was now in rough shape as it had bruises over its body, but it still attacked a charging Koffing, and was still able to knock it back.

        "Koffing, Sludge attack!"

Koffing released an acid-like, bubbling liquid at Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil dodged it and fired an Ember attack. Koffing was hit by one of the bullets while floating in mid-air.

        "Cyndaquil, Smokescreen!"

Cyndaquil stood up and fired a thick cloud of smoke while falling down on its two front feet. The cloud of smoke drifted slowly towards Koffing, eventually obscuring its sight.

"Koffing, another Tackle!" said the Grunt before Cyndaquil's attack went into effect.

The charging Koffing slammed Cyndaquil against a rock.

"Cyndaquil!" called out Kenta as his Pokémon fell forward into the ground.

"Koffing, end it with Take Down!" commanded the Grunt.

"Cyndaquil!!" Kenta called out again as the Koffing charged towards Cyndaquil faster than it usually does with Tackle.

        "It's over!" shouted the Grunt.

In his so-called victory, he didn't see how a cloud of smoke appeared suddenly when his Pokémon attacked. When the smoke and dust cleared, there lay his Koffing, knocked out with an X on each eye, while the exhausted Cyndaquil stood up shakily.

Kenta suddenly grinned at the turn of events, but his grin suddenly faded as he ran over to his now fainted Pokémon.

"Cyndaquil, you did a great job," said Kenta as he picked Cyndaquil up and placed it on its favorite spot: Kenta's shoulder. Kenta then glared at the Grunt, who took a step back in fear.

"Who-who are you?!" asked the Grunt.

"I don't think that matters, does it?" asked Kenta in a very serious tone.

To Matt, it seemed as if this was not his brother at all. It was like the person talking to the Grunt was a whole different person.

"Now tell me," said Kenta as he walked towards the Grunt without fear, "why does Team Rocket do all this?"

"It's just something that we like to do. We steal and exploit Pokémon for profit, and Team Rocket is all about destroying Pokémon!" exclaimed the Grunt. He then disappeared, leaving behind nothing but a maniacal laugh.

Kenta clenched his fist in anger for a few moments, only to calm down when a Slowpoke bumped into his leg. Kenta blinked in surprise and found out that other than having its tail cut off, it was holding a little piece of paper. Matt kneeled down and looked up Slowpoke's data on his PokéDex.

"Slowpoke, the Dopey Pokémon. Slowpoke uses its tail to catch prey by dipping it in water. When attacked, it takes five seconds before this Pokémon feels pain."

Matt closed his PokéDex with his mouth open wide.

"Five seconds?! What kind of a Pokémon is this?!" remarked Matt.

"Hey, don't judge a Pokémon by its looks or abilities. It has feelings just like other Pokémon do," replied Kenta. "And I don't think it's feeling happy right now," he noted, looking at the tailless Slowpoke. He then took the piece of paper that it was holding and looked to see what it was.

"Hey, isn't that Mail?" pointed out Matt.

"Hmm...let's see," said Kenta as he read the Mail.

Be good and look after the house with Grandpa and Slowpoke.

                                                                    Love, Dad

"Ah, this must be our Slowpoke," said a voice from behind Matt, making him jump.

        It was the old man.

"Really? Then it has something that belongs to you then," said Kenta as he gave the Slowpoke to Kurt, who found and checked the Mail that the Slowpoke was holding.

"That son of mine," chuckled the old man as he took the Mail. He then started to head for the exit.

"Where are you going?" asked Matt.

"Why don't we head out and go to my house?" said the old man. "You don't want to stay down here, do you?"

"Hey, wait up!" Matt called out.
