Reflections of the Past
Chapter 1: An Impossible Mission
by: KentaMarina

Feb. 2008:

How long has it been again? Five something years? Anyways...

As you, the reader, may have probably noticed, I'm editing most of what I have here, except for a one series that I really want to keep in its original, n00bish form for comparison between how much I've progressed since I started writing...writing stuff. I'm also keeping certain items just for my amusement as well.

This series has been retconned. Don't know what that means? Look it up, for knowledge is power!

Original A/N:

With my final examinations coming up in about 2 weeks, things suddenly became very hectic at my school. And with a new idea in my head, I present you this fic ahead of time, so that I will not forget my ideas for this fic. With two other fics to work on (The Johto League and The Longest Night), don't expect me to update all of them at the same time. Hopefully, I'll be able to do so during the summer.

Relief from writer's block, ::sighs, shaking his head slowly:: they come, they go...

Anyway, this fic is part of The Johto League, but where the story really takes place makes it a separate one. There's lots of action in this fic, so hope you enjoy it!

The story takes place a few years later after Kenta decides to take a long break from his journeys. It is basically a reflection of both Kenta and Marina, where Kenta will be on certain chapters and Marina on the other chapters.

I was sent by the Pokémon G-Men on a mission to the now abandoned Team Rocket base at the outskirts of Goldenrod City. It was now in ruins, but most of it was still intact.
I entered a dark hallway with nothing but a black laptop. I walked up a door with a sign that said, "NO ENTRY BEYOND THIS POINT."
"Idiots..." I thought, noticing the scanner-lock on the side of the door. "What's the point of putting a lock there when the sign says, 'NO ENTRY BEYOND THIS POINT?'"
"Please place your hand on the pad for identification..." the computer on the lock said.
I stood there, taking a moment to look around and see if anybody was there in the dark hallway. Then, I put his hand on the green pad. The computer scanned my hand up and down, then left and right.
"Identification recognized. Access granted," said the lock, inside releasing the lock and opening the door. "Welcome to the Records Room, Kenta."

Chapter 1: An Impossible Mission

I spotted an open computer on a table. I took a nearby chair, sat down, and hooked up my laptop to the computer. I opened a file on the computer marked as "X." After I double-clicked on it, a box popped out requiring a password. I immediately turned on my laptop and accessed the encryption program. After a few beeps later, the correct password was displayed on the computer, the box disappeared, and the file opened.
"Hmm...did she really have to make it easy to encrypt this?" I thought.
I took one last look around the room to see if there were any surveillance equipment. When all was clear, I finally looked at the file.

Re: Rocket Invasion

I opened my encryption program once more to decipher the subject. After a few seconds later, the subject was deciphered: Re: Rocket Invasion. I took one look at it, then I clenched up my hand into a fist and swore under my breath in anger.
I never wanted to remember this, but I have to... I thought.

"Well that's just too bad, 'cause I'm in it now..." I said, letting out a small chuckle. I checked the time on his PokéGear. "Almost midnight..." I said to myself. I took out my cellphone and speed-dialed a number.
"Hello?" asked a girl's voice on the other line.
        "I'm in..." I replied.
"Good. You have about two hours to memorize everything in there, then permanently delete it."
"Well, that's gonna take me more than just two hours," I said. "Can't you tell Lance to make it three hours?" I joked. The girl laughed quietly on the other line.
        "Kenta?"
        "Yeah?"
"I know you don't want to remember this, but it's Lance's order, and I was the one who sent this to him while I was there, so, sorry Kenta." said the girl.
I sighed and my anger subsided at the girl's apology. "It's alright..." I finally said.
"Thanks Kenta, I knew you'd understand..." she replied, quietly letting out a sigh of relief.
        "Love you."
        "Love you too, Kenta."
        "Bye."
        "Bye."
        Beep
, I turned off the cellphone as I continued to read the rest of the document.

Giovanni, leader of the most wanted team, Team Rocket, Archie, leader of another wanted team, Team Aqua, and Maxie, also leader of the wanted team, Team Magma, devised a plan to gain control of all Pokémon, and take over the Johto, Kanto, and Hoenn Regions.

"And this happened about four months since I started my journey..." I thought. I closed my eyes and recalled what had happened during that period of time... That time that which I'll never forget, and forgive...

And that's where our story starts...

* * *

As I stepped out of the Mahogany Town Gym, I found Lance standing right in front of me.
"Kenta, we need your help again..." he said quietly.
"What's all this about?" asked Marina.
Lance ignored her. I simply replied with a nod. "Jun'ichi, go," I said. He understood what I meant and pulled her out of the conversation without saying anything.
After they were gone, Lance took out a PokéBall.
"Dragonite, you know where to go," said Lance as he boarded his trusty Dragon Pokémon. Me, on the other hand threw a PokéBall in the air.
"Fearow, go!" I shouted as my powerful Flying Pokémon was released from its Ball. As Dragonite took off, I told Fearow to follow it.

We finally landed on an open spot near a huge building. We went through the doors and stopped at a door. Lance took out a card and slid it through a small machine on the side of the door. The lock disengaged, and the door automatically opened.
"Kenta, this mission is extremely risky and very dangerous," Lance said as we walked in. "Are you sure you want to do this?" he asked quietly.
"Just tell me what to do and I'll do it," I replied.
"Kenta, you need to be aware of the risks. We lost one of our top agents while on this mission a few days ago, and you might die in this mission," said Lance.
"Well, if you weren't going to give the mission to me, then what the hell is the purpose of having me here!" I replied firmly.
"Alright then," Lance said as he walked up to the projector screen up front. "Ladies and gentlemen," he said, turning to the rest of the Pokémon G-Men. The Pokémon G-Men were made up of some of the best Trainers in the Johto, Kanto, and Hoenn Regions, some renowned Pokémon professors, some Gym Leaders like Claire of Blackthorn City in Johto, and members of the different Elite Fours like Lance & Steven.
I took a seat near the computer as Lance continued on. "Our special agent here is about to go undercover as a Rocket Executive," announced Lance. "Professor Elm, I think you should tell him what to do," he said, looking at Prof. Elm, who had just arrived a few seconds ago. The Professor then came up to the projector screen. A Trainer from the Kanto Region was on the computer, working the projector.
"Kenta, we have received information from our intelligence that Giovanni..."
A picture of Giovanni flashed on the screen.
        "...Archie..."
A picture of Archie flashed on the screen.
        "...and Maxie..."
Lastly, a picture of Maxie flashed on the screen.
"...have planned an invasion of the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn regions, and to control all Pokémon, even ones that have already been caught," the Professor said.
I shifted in my seat. "I think I've seen Giovanni before, but who are Archie and Maxie?" I asked.
"Good question Kenta," replied Prof. Elm, who looked at the Trainer showing the slides. The Trainer understood, then flashed a few images of Archie and Maxie on the screen while Professor Elm was explaining. "Archie and Maxie were leaders of two of the most dangerous groups in the Hoenn Region..."
A picture of a band of people that looked like pirates and Archie, in the middle was flashed on the screen.
        "...Team Aqua..."
Another picture was flashed on the screen. It had a group of people dressed in red, and had black shorts and skirts, with Maxie in the middle.
"...and Team Magma," finished the professor.
"So, what's my mission?" I asked impatiently.
Prof. Elm again signaled to the Trainer. The Trainer did a few mouse clicks and a blueprint of a base was shown on the screen.
"As Lance said, you will be going undercover as a Rocket Executive, and try to stop these three leaders from taking over the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn Regions. This is the blueprint of the Rocket Base located outside Goldenrod City, where they have already invaded the whole city and the Radio Tower," said the Professor.
"Why did they have to take over the Radio Tower?" I asked.
"Remember the machine in Mahogany Town? Well, the Scientists working for Team Rocket made it so that Giovanni could use a more powerful machine which has stronger signals to control all Pokémon that are out there, even ones that have been caught," explained Lance.
"So how am I supposed to stop them?" I asked.
"You have to spy on any meetings the three leaders conduct in private, and send the information to us via your laptop, then we'll take care of the rest," said Lance.
"Will I receive any help at all?" I asked.
"After a few weeks or so, you're on your own, but after that, a friend of yours will come eventually and help you on your mission..." replied Prof. Elm.
"A friend of mine?" I thought. I tried to figure out who it will be, but it had to be either Jun'ichi, Marina, or somebody else.
"Your next decision will be final," announced Lance as he stood up. "Will you accept this mission?" he asked.
My mind was racing. "I understand that this is a dangerous mission, but I have to take the risk," I said as I closed my eyes.

* * *

The dark room came back into focus as I opened my eyes again. I read the last sentence for the first part of the summary.

    ...and he accepted the mission...
