Number Two: The Recruiting Saga PART TWO I opened the door to my bedroom and walked to the top of the staircase. I ran down and into the kitchen. I was wearing a black shirt with a matching hat. I also had on denim shorts and a pair of dark blue sneakers. I was also wearing a Pokemon trainer belt that held up to six Pokemon. “Are you ready for today?” Dad asked, while shoveling a bowl of oatmeal. “Yes sir, I think I’m gonna pick Charmander for my starter Pokemon.” I answered. “Are you sure, Charmander is weak in the Viridian, Pewter, and Cerulean gyms.” Mom commented, sitting down to drink a bottle of water. “Well, if I catch some new Pokemon, I could beat those gyms and get the badges. I could catch a Pidgey for the Viridian gym; since they use water and normal types. I could also raise a Butterfree for the Pewter and Cerulean gyms. I have it all figured out.” I explained. My parents stared at me. I started to eat my cereal. I kicked my skateboard to gain speed as I rolled down the roads of Viridian. It was great to skate to the place where I retrieved my first Pokemon. “I’m coming!” I yelled as the Pokemon Center came into view. I started to panic when Cody and Sissy started to walk in. They were the others who would choose from Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. Sissy turned around. “Hey, Tanner!” She called. “Hey!” I skated into the Pokemon Center driveway. “It’s the Pokemon loser!” Cody teased. The head nurse in the Pokemon Center was behind them. They all came outside. “Hurry Tanner, it’s already 8:00!” She yelled. “I’m coming!” I called back. I kicked even more, trying to show off my speed to the other to-be trainers. Then, an eighteen wheeler sped in front of me, it was dropping off Pokemon food to the Pokemon Center. “Watch out!” I wailed. He didn’t see me, I jumped off my skateboard and into the grass rolling. He ran over my skateboard with the left-front wheel, crushing my board. “NO!!!!” I cried. I had paid forty dollars for that board. “Dang it.” I murmured under my breath as I walked to the door. “Sorry about the board!” Cody laughed. “Shut up.” I answered as the nurse lead us to the backroom. Cody had hated me ever since I was born. He always wore preppy clothes and always thought he was better than me. We had been in fights several times, him always busting my lip. I did give him a black eye once, though. Cody was fourteen. Sissy was thirteen and loved grass Pokemon. She told Cody and me that she wanted Bulbasaur. Cody would most likely choose Squirtle, knowing that Charmander is weak against water. “Alright, those are the Poke Balls.” The nurse pointed to the coffee table in the plain backroom. There was one red couch in this room, along with a small TV and a few plants. “Ladies first.” I said, showing Sissy her Poke Ball. “Thank you, Tanner.” She smiled. She walked up to the table and looked at the nurse. “I pick Bulbasaur.” She grabbed the first Poke Ball. “That’s a good choice.” The nurse commented, “Why don’t we go with Tanner?” Cody crossed his arms, mad that he couldn’t choose next. “I know he’s gonna choose Squirtle.” Cody thought, “Then I’ll have to get Charmander.” I walked up to the coffee table, palms sweating. I knew that Cody thought that I would pick Squirtle. But I wasn’t. “I pick Charmaner.” I put my hand on the ball and took it, putting it on the trainers’ belt that I bought at the Viridian Poke Mart. I could hold up to six Poke Balls on the belt, held by clips. I pushed the button in the middle of the Poke Ball and made it smaller. I then snapped it to the first of the six clips. Cody walked to the coffee table and picked up Squirtle’s ball. “I guess I have Squirtle.” He said. He did the same thing as I did with the ball. Sissy put her ball in her pack. “I am going to give you all five extra Poke Balls.” The nurse said. She gave all of us five balls, all of them in their small state. We all did what we had to do with them. After we said our thank-you’s, we walked out the door. I headed towards the outskirts of Viridian, and the others headed to different destinations. I had my Pokemon and I planned on catching as many others as I could. TO BE CONTINUED IN… … The Recruiting Saga PART THREE
