Both Midnight and I just kept walking north, staring out into the distance. Neither one of us had said a word so far. The only sound we could hear was the light chirps of crickets and the sound of our feet walking through the lush grass. Finally, I spoke up. “Do you think I’ll be able to turn into a poke’ morph too?” I asked. The thought of turning at least half human made my heart rise. “I thought you promised we wouldn’t have any conversations on this journey.” Midnight said, not even turning to look at me. “Oh... yea... that’s right...” I said, disappointed. I was eager to talk about something. Anything. It was too quiet, and it was too boring. People say silence is golden, but at that moment it was killing me! I turned to look at Midnight, anger in my eyes. “Ugh! I hate all of the silence! Look, I know I made a promise, but I’ll have to break it. If we ever want this long journey to go by quickly, we have to talk!” I shouted. I was secretly pleased with myself. Midnight gave me an annoyed look. “You sure are a noisy one, aren’t you?” Midnight said. “But then again, most all of you humans are. So are a lot of pokemon out there.” “Huh?” I was confused. Midnight sighed. “You see, there is no need to yell and scream at each other. There isn’t even need to talk at a normal volume. What’s the use? Silence is your friend. It will help us throughout our journey.” To my surprise, Midnight kneeled down and rubbed the back of my head. Being an Umbreon, it felt like a calming massage yet it sent a cold chill down my spine. I was about to say something, but Midnight shushed me. “Our journey,” he said. “Its just a whisper away.” I didn’t say anything. I just looked into his fire-red eyes with an expression of awe on my face. I never knew that Umbreon had such a unique way of looking at the world. I smiled. “Well,” I whispered. “Can you at least tell me what you did to turn into a poke’ morph?” “Ah, yes, about that. I did almost the same thing you do with your jewel. I closed my eyes and concentrated deeply on me. As an Umbreon, that is. I cleared everything else out of my mind.” Midnight answered. I stared down at the sparkling jewel on my necklace. I had almost forgotten about it. “Okay then. Stand back. I’m going to try it.” I said. Midnight took a step back and watched carefully. Suddenly I felt the same way I did the first time I used my jewel six years ago- nervous. It felt like my heart was leaping to my throat. Despite what I felt like, I closed my eyes and put a picture of myself as a human into my head. It was harder than you’d think. It’s easy to picture up an animal, pokemon, friend, relative, a loved one that you’ve lost, or even something made up that you’ve never seen before. But picturing yourself can be hard. After I finally got it, I concentrated so much that I started to get a headache. That’s when I felt myself change. My two back legs started getting longer, and I was forced to stand up on both of them. The joints in my two front legs started changing, and the paws on them formed into hands. My face became flatter. I felt myself get bigger and bigger, both height and width wise. The soft silky fur all over me turned into skin as the clothes I wore during the experiment magically appeared on me. Long golden hair grew from my head all the way to my waist, like how it was before. The experience was quite painful, but soon everything stopped. I was now a poke’ morph, just like Midnight. Midnight grinned. “So, does it feel good to stand on two legs again?” Midnight asked. “For you, that is.” He quickly added. “Heh... yea.” I answered, stretching. The change had given me lots of cramps. “Though I’ll always enjoy the wind blowing through my fur while running on four legs. It’s much quicker.” “Yea,” Midnight said. “That’s one of the many disadvantages of being a human.” He winked at me. I smiled. It looked like he was finally getting used to me. Finally. Meanwhile, in Team Rocket’s hideout... Giovanni stood there, looking through a window at the black night sky. His Persian purred in content happiness as it weaved through his stiff legs, rubbing its scent all over him. “This is the day. The day I capture...” He pulled out a torn picture of a sixteen year old girl laughing as she ran through a large open field. “...her.” The girl was Starlight. The snow-white jewel on her necklace was circled in pen. Team Rocket had known Starlight’s mother, whom at the time didn’t know that Team Rocket was evil. Thanks to her they found out about Starlight’s jewel and its incredible power. A week later they attached a microscopic machine to Starlight without her knowing that let them know where she was on a tracking device. Only now were they ready to capture her, though. “Boss, the helicopter is ready.” A Team Rocket member said. Giovanni nodded. He walked down the long hallway and then up the stairs, each of his footsteps echoing throughout the building. He seemed to spread the evil within him as his dark shadows followed. Soon he was outside, on top of the building. He breathed in the fresh air of night, and then climbed into the helicopter. The helicopter rose up into the air, and then flew off into the distance, where Starlight and Midnight were walking north. *********************** After walking awhile, Midnight came to a sudden halt. “Wait, quiet... what’s that noise?” He asked. I stopped and listened. There it was- the faint sound of choppers in the distance. Wait a sec... choppers? A helicopter was coming! Both Midnight and I were still in our poke’ morph forms. “Quick,” I said. “We can’t let anyone see us like this. We need to hide!” Midnight nodded. We quickly found a large thick tree and hid behind it. I pressed my cheek against the tree’s bark and waited nervously. The sound of the helicopter’s choppers got louder as it slowly flew closer to us. I shut my eyes closed. What would happen if they spotted us? Suddenly, I heard a voice. “Starlight, I know you’re out there! You can’t hide from me!” A man’s voice taunted. He erupted into evil laughter. Intense fear swelled up in me. Who was this man? And why did he want me? Midnight turned to look at me, his eyebrow raised. “Do you...?” Midnight asked quietly. “No, I don’t know who he is. Just don’t let him get me!” I cried. His icy fire-red eyes stared into me once again. It made me shiver. But I couldn’t turn away... something was stopping me. That’s when his eyes starting glowing. He turned to look at the helicopter as his whole body started glowing a deep purple. Black light shot out from him like an arrow, aiming for the helicopter. A silver machine came out from the base of the helicopter, gleaming in the moonlight. It seemed to have absorbed the attack. “Oh no...” I gasped. A twisted smile emerged on Giovanni’s face. “That’s right, Starlight... there’s no escaping me now, even with your little friend you’ve got!” Giovanni said. A long thick pitch-black rope shot out of the machine and rapped around my waist, pulling me up towards the helicopter. I screamed out my lungs as Midnight started getting smaller and smaller. This can’t be happening. It just can’t. My head hit the base of the helicopter, and I was knocked unconscious, gone from Midnight’s world of darkness.
