With an “Umph!” I fell to the ground, dirt flying everywhere. I whipped my head around to look at White Crystal. The image of her was now full of static, and the buzzing noise was getting louder. I gawked. This whole time White Crystal was a hologram and I didn’t even know? What was wrong with me? White Crystal smirked. “Foolish girl. You can’t even tell what’s real and what’s not.” White Crystal said coolly. I quickly stood up and growled in frustration. My eyes wandered over from White Crystal to Midnight. Oh, how I longed to tell him so many things right now. How I longed to tell him I was sorry for what had happened before. “Hm... very smart. You created a hologram of yourself so we’d be wasting our time by attacking something that wasn’t there.” Midnight said, grinning. “But since this isn’t a recording, the real you has to be near by.” “How right you are. But if you can’t find out where I really am, how can you defeat me?” White Crystal said, continuing to smirk. Midnight’s eyes wandered from White Crystal to her Espeon, and then to the area surrounding us. “Please Midnight... just look at me.” I muttered under my breath. “Look into my eyes.” But Midnight didn’t look at me. Instead he jumped at White Crystal’s Espeon, ready to attack. I screamed. I didn’t want Midnight to go into a different dimension ever again. Instead of using his powers, he just swiped at the Espeon and landed gracefully back on the ground next to me. I took advantage of the moment. “I’m sorry, Midnight. I really am.” I whispered. Midnight turned to look at me. “This isn’t the time to talk.” Midnight whispered back. He turned to look at White Crystal again, just before the image of her disappeared. I gasped. “If you destroyed the thing that was creating the hologram of White Crystal, then does that mean that the real White Crystal is...?” “...The Espeon.” Midnight answered calmly. I stared at the Espeon. White Crystal was a pokemon? White Crystal grinned, and then started running. “Come back here, you!” Midnight shouted, running after White Crystal. I ran after him. I wasn’t going to let him go off alone again, not when White Crystal was out there. But when I got to the top of the hill and looked down, instead of seeing an Espeon I saw a Jolteon. “What the?!” I stared at the Jolteon. Was that White Crystal? I shook my head and continued running down the hill. Midnight jumped high into the air, and then landed on the ground in front of the Jolteon. Now the Jolteon was trapped. “Now where can you go, White Crystal?” Midnight asked, smirking. So the Jolteon was White Crystal. White Crystal turned to look at me, and gave me a look that said “Bye!”. Electric sparks were sent up into the air, and then came back down where I was. I fell to the ground, twitching. My head was spinning and I couldn’t stand up. White Crystal was going to escape. “Oh no you don’t! Not after you attack Starlight!” Midnight shouted. He tackled White Crystal to the ground. I smiled weakly. So he did forgive me. Midnight grasped his hands around White Crystal’s neck. “Unless you want me to kill you, turn back into an Espeon, and teleport Starlight and I to the lab up north. NOW.” Midnight growled. Gasping for breath, White Crystal slowly changed back into an Espeon. It kind of reminded me of when I go back and forth between my Umbreon form and my pokemorph form. One second all three of us were in that area, and then everything went black. It felt like my stomach wasn’t there. But when color returned, we were in a different area. White Crystal quickly teleported away. Breathing heavily, I looked around. Up in the distance was a huge lab. I stared at the ground. We were really here. Finally. I looked at Midnight. “So you do forgive me?” I finally asked. Midnight looked into my eyes and smiled. “Of course I do.” Midnight answered. “I saved your life, and then you saved mine. We’re equal now.” I sighed in relief. “So how exactly did White Crystal turn into a Jolteon, anyways?” I asked. Millions of questions were swarming through my mind. “Every hundred years, a special Eevee is born. They can change into any of their evolutions except for one.” Midnight answered. “Starlight, do you know which evolution White Crystal couldn’t turn into?” I thought for a moment. “No.” I finally answered. “Umbreon. White Crystal couldn’t turn into an Umbreon.” Midnight answered for me. “Oh! So that’s why she was trying to take all of that darkness away from you! So she could finally turn into all of her evolutions!” I said. Midnight smiled, and then nodded. “Yes, that’s correct.” He said. I lowered my eyes. I had one more question to ask. “Midnight... White Crystal said something about two types of darkness. A calm one, and then an angry one. Is this true?” I carefully asked. Midnight was silent for a moment. “Yes, it is.” He finally answered, sighing. My heart sank. “So... did I make you angry enough so that...?” “No, you didn’t.” Midnight answered, before I could finish my question. “Whenever an Eevee is born that wants to evolve into an Umbreon, they’re just born that way. Same thing for what type of darkness you hold once you do evolve into an Umbreon. You’re just born that way, and nobody can change it.” I looked up at Midnight and smiled. My smile grew into a grin. Without thinking, I jumped up and hugged Midnight. “Oh Midnight... I’m so happy!” I cried. Midnight grinned and pushed me off. “Get off me before you kill me!” Midnight said, laughing. “Heh... sorry.” I said. I stared at him. I wonder what Midnight was like when he was an Eevee. But I didn’t ask. “Well, we might as well start walking to that lab.” Midnight said, softly. I nodded, staring at the ground. We both stood up and staring trudging our way up the hill, to the huge laboratory. Note from author: Well, I’m finally back from vacation!
