"Wait up Mai!" Kimori shouted across the field. Mai stopped. "Wasn't
that capture cool? I didn't even have to battle that Spearow to catch
it!" Mai exclaimed. "Yeah, it was pretty cool. Hey, there's the lab!
let's go so you can choose your pokemon." Kimori said happily as she
walked up the cobbleston path. Mai followed Kimori and then stopped.
Where was the professor? Oh, there he was. He had stoppd by the front
gate to greet a funny looking pokemon. It was one of the sparkly
pokemon! It looked like an Umbreon, but instead of yellow circles on
it's back, it had orange stars. The stars began glowing a soft
orange-pink glow as Mai approached. "Is this one of those special
shining pokemon professor?" Mai asked curiously. The professor nodded.
"Yes, but ths Umbreon has had a few breeding problems, and it looks like
a whole new speices of pokemon! I've been trying to place a name on it,
but I just can't think of one. I thought of letting it's trainer name
it, but it has been so difficult with the trainers so far, that no one
will choose it." The professor said grimly. Mai nodded. "May I see the
rest of pokemon professor?" The professor nodded again. "Follow me." he
said.

"It's about time you two showed up! The pokemon are getting restless!"
Kimori shouted. "Well Mai here we are. You can choose any of the pokemon
here, or the Umbreon outside. I keep it there because it bites the other
pokemon. Go ahead and play with them all!" The professor grinned as he
spoke. He was happy because he had seen Umbreon's starrs light up. Mai
looked at the four pokemon in the room - a Tyrouge, a Phanpy, a
Teddiursa, and a Charmander. Mai played with all of the pokemon for a
while, but she still had her heart set on visiting the Umbreon that she
had first seen outside. "Professor? May we go outside now? I wan't to
see that gorgeous Umbreon again!" Mai asked hopfully.

"Okay, but promise me that you will not go nea it, but let it come to
you. I don't want another person to go home crying because Umbreon
kicked dirt in their face." The profssor warned. "I promise." The
suprise came when the three went outside. Instead of backing away,
Umbreon ran right up to Mai and started making friendly, happy Umbreon
noises. Mai pet Umbreon behind the ears. When Umbreon felt the petting,
she ran around the pen showing off. "I want Umbreon as my pokemon
professor!" Mai exclaimed. Professor Wood haned Mai a pokeball with a
star on it. "This is Umbreon's pokeball. Try to get this on her too."
The professor handed Mai some kind of collar. "It's a communicator. It
allows your pokemon to speak like us! I can't seem to get it on Umreon,
but she trusts you and maybe you can get it on her." "Okay, I'll try.
But I will name her first." Maisaid o the professor. "How about Star
Gazer?" With that, Umbreon nodded her head in excitement. "Will you let
me put this collar on you Star Gazer?" Star Gazer nodded her head.
"Amazing! She'd have never done that for anyone else!" The professor
said as he watched in wonder. When the collar was in place around Star
Gazer's neck, she started to blab about how happy she was and how the
other pokemon were snobs. Then Kimori finally spoke for the first time
that hour. "Hey Mai, if we want to get going, I think we should leave
now." "You're right. Professor, do you have another communicator? I'd
like to put one on Spearow." Mai said. "No, I'm sorry, but they're sold
in all stores for 1000Y." Professor Wood replied. Mai and Kimori left
the lab with Star Gazer and Star at their sides.
