Part One Brittany had finished a very long day. She had been away from her home since 8:30 that morning. They went to their grandmother’s, which was, to Brittany, extremely boring. Her mother didn’t allow her to bring her Gameboy Advance SP, nonetheless her Ruby or Sapphire version. Luckily, Brittany had talked her mother into taking her to Target for putting up with it. She bought nothing but pokemon card packs. She bought one of everything, much of it being the same, like several new Dragon boosters, just with different pokemon on the front. Lucky for her, Brittany came from a very wealthy family, so she could buy nearly anything she wanted. After getting home at around 7:00 at night, Brittany threw herself upon her bed. Brittany was 11 years old, old enough to start a pokemon journey, if she was in the pokemon world. She had blondish-brown hair, blue eyes, and was a pokemon maniac. She opened the packs one by one, in order from the pokemon on the cover, from her least favorite to most favorite. When she was at her last pack (her 18th), She opened it slowly and hoped for the best. On the front was a Latios. Brittany had gotten in this pack: A Snorunt, a Numel, a Bagon, a Lairon, a Mudkip, a Skitty, a Treecko, a water energy, a shiny Marshtomp, and a holographic… LATIOS! This must have been a 1 in 1,000,000 chance! Brittany couldn’t believe it. This was one of the rarest cards in the world, and she had it. After getting over the shock, she walked over to tell her electronic talking pikachu. “Guess what, little guy? I got a Latios! See?” she said, showing him the card, “Isn’t it amazing! Boy, I wish I was a real pokemon trainer.” But, when Brittany said these exact words, a shooting star flew across the sky. The holographic Latios card began to shake. Brittany flashed her head toward it. Brittany was curious, but even more creeped out. Her eyes began to shake a little in horror. “What… What’s going on?!” she asked herself. The Latios card was upright, with no strings, nothing holding it up, just floating in the air by itself. Brittany gave a frightened gasp. The card shot out a wave of multi-colored light. Once the wave hit her, the world around her began changing, her room was flickering from there to a different place. The different place was outside, nearby a town she thought, and there was lots of tall grass. That place was barely disturbed, only from small or large creatures. Humans didn’t inhabit it, but they passed by it commonly. Eventually, the flickering stopped. She was in one place or the other, at the moment she couldn’t tell which, because she had tightly shut her eyes. After the strange sensation from her head was gone, she slowly, nervously opened her eyes. She was in the other place. It was called Route 29. There was a town nearby, only about 20 or 25 meters away from her. Avoiding the tall grass (for she didn’t want to get grass stains), she headed toward the town. When she reached the entrance, there was a small sign on her right hand side that read, ‘Welcome to New Bark Town’. “What?! New Bark Town?! That’s impossible! I’m in the pokemon world?!” Brittany shouted. Luckily, nobody else heard her, because it was night there, too. She looked for Professor Elm’s Lab, hoping to start a journey. She already knew, if she did, that she would choose Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil was her 6th favorite pokemon. Her favorite was Mew, followed by Latios, followed by Latias. Her 4th favorite was Absol, and 5th was Mightyena. Dog pokemon were her favorite kinds. However, these were the few exceptions. When she was trying to find Elm’s Lab, it began to rain. Brittany started running. The rain made it even darker and harder to see. Then, she saw a flashlight in the distance, maybe 30 feet from her. Brittany ran over to him and asked, “Where’s Professor Elm’s Lab? I have to get out of this rain.” “You shouldn’t be out here in this kind of weather,” the young boy, about 13 said, “I’ll take you there.” While they were heading toward the Lab, they boy said, “My name’s Jacob, you can call me Jake. I’m starting my pokemon journey tonight, but they’re supposed to be tomorrow. I want a head start on having my new Totodile trust me.” “Cool. I’m starting tonight, too. I’m going to start with Cyndaquil. I’ve always dreamed of becoming a pokemon trainer. Oh, and I’m Brittany,” she responded. Once they got to Professor Elm’s Lab, they knocked on the door, out of breath and soaked. The rain had only picked up as they were moving. One of Elm’s assistants answered the door. Before Jake or Brittany could say anything, the assistant said, “Oh my. Please come in.” “Thank you,” Jake said. “We’re here for two reasons,” Brittany said eagerly, “To get our starting pokemon and to get out of the rain.” Elm walked toward the two. Elm then said, “Well, the journeys are supposed to start tomorrow, but I guess you two can have one tonight. Come, follow me.” After selecting their new pokemon, Jake and Brittany talked and decided that they would travel together. Professor Elm offered them a room with a bunk-bed, and they gladly accepted. The storm was going to last all night. This was by far the best day of Brittany’s life. Although she missed her family, which was only her mother, and her old life, she had gained two of what she had never had. Friends. True friends. Jake and Cyndaquil. And her dream finally came true. She was a pokemon trainer.
