Just Friends? Disclaimer~I don't own Ash or Misty, since da pokes don't really show up in this fic, but if they did, I wouldn't own them eithar, but I do own the poem, 'Just Friends,' which appears in this fic. A short AAMRN I wrote, and it's my first one so go easy on me. Big thanks goes to Misty101803 for telling me that I should write a fic to go with this poem, so this fic I dedicate to you. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` I can't tell you how I feel, I can't tell you why I'm still here, 'cause I'm sure it would scare you off. I know that I'm just wasting my time, why would you ever like a girl like me, when there are plenty of other fish in the sea? Everyday I wake up and see your face smiling at me from the depths of a dream, but once you wake up the smile is gone, and I feel so alone. If only you could see how much you mean to me, maybe then you would understand why I act the way I do around you. But, you'll never understand, maybe it is I who is blind to the fact that my love is one sided and that you will never like me as anything more then just a friend. ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Misty sighed as she looked up the crescent moon above her. The moon's pale light shone down upon the land below, making the trees cast long shadows upon the ground. Misty looked down from the moon to the campfire in front of her. The flickering flames brightened the shadows of the trees, but not so much as to make them disappear. Misty prevented herself from looking above the fire's flames at the pokemon trainer sitting across from her. A pokemon trainer named Ash Ketchum and a pokemon trainer that she loved above all else. She sighed again as she felt a lump devolpe in her throat. Ever since Brock had left the group, things had changed so much. Misty and Ash used to fight over little things and call each other names, sure it was immature, but at least they had talked back then. Now, Ash and her never talked much at all and Ash seemed so distant now, as if they were standing on two differant shores. Misty also found that, without Brock, everyday of keeping her love a secret seemed to tear a new hole in her heart. Tonight, Ash and Misty hadn't said a word to eachother and Misty felt as if she couldn't even look at him. It was if Ash and Misty were strangers who just happened to be occupying the same camp. Misty didn't know how much more of this she could take. Just then, the pot upon the fire had come to a boil and Misty lifted the lid. A wonderful arouma met her nose as she stirred the stew withen the pot. She then took the pot off the fire and set it on a nearby tree stump that she was using as a table. "Dinner's ready." Misty said aloud as Ash came over to the stump. "Smells good." Ash said as he filled a bowl with Misty's stew and sat back at his place by the fire. Misty also got a bowl and sat across from him. "Thanks." she said quietly. She felt his eyes upon her, but she didn't say anything and began eating her stew. She finished the bowl, and set it by the pot as she had lost her apetite. Ash, however, packed away three more bowls before he had had enough. When he was finished, he and Misty sat by the campfire, not saying anything. Ash found the silence unbearable, so he decided to ask "Misty, is anything wrong?" Misty looked up, a little surprised at Ash's question, but recovered from her shock and answered "No, nothing at all." Misty looked down at the ground because she couldn't look back at Ash. "Somethings wrong, I can tell Mist. You don't look at me anymore and we never talk. Please tell me what's wrong so I can help you." Ash said in a genuinely worried tone. Misty looked up at Ash's sincere face and she could feel tears form in her eyes. "I t-told you, nothing's wrong." she stuttered. "Misty, I won't force you to tell me, but I wish you would. We're best friends, if you can't tell me then who can you tell?" Ash looked into her face, but Misty just looked at the ground. Misty didn't say anything, and she felt Ash's gaze leave her. She sighed as the two got up and rolled out their sleeping bags. Misty snuggled down into her sleeping bag and Ash did the same, however Misty found sleeping difficult. She tossed and turned, but something was tugging at the back of her mind and sleep just wouldn't cast it's eye upon her. She turned and found Ash had yet to sleep as well. He was laying on his back looking up at the stars above. Misty couldn't take it anymore, she had to let the secret out before it destroyed her from the inside out. "Ash, I need to talk to you." Misty said aloud. Beside her, Ash jumped a bit since he hadn't realized that she was still up, but he settled down. "What is it, Mist?" he asked as he turned on his side to face her. "Well," Misty took a deep breath, "I've felt this way for a long time, but lately I've felt these feelings more strongly then I've ever felt them before, and I couldn't sleep untill I tell you that..." Misty stopped, her heart was racing faster then an Elektrike's agility. "Tell me what?" Ash asked. "Tell you that I, that I," Misty paused and took a deep breath. It was now or never, "tell you that I... love you." Misty breathed in and waited for the pain she knew was bound to come. Ash looked at her and smiled, then said "Why didn't you say so earlier? Mist, I love you too." Misty couldn't believe her ears as she looked at Ash, she felt tears come to her eyes once again, but she didn't try to stop them this time. Ash leaned towards her and wiped the tears away with the back of his hand. Then he kissed her on the cheek where he had just wiped away the tears. "I'm glad you told me what was bothering you, Mist." Ash said. "If I can't tell my best friend, then who can I tell." Misty replied. "We're more then best friends now, so much more." Ash told Misty, and she couldn't have agreed more. `````````````````````````````````` Hope ya like'd it. I know it's short, but I just wanted to write a short, sweet fic about AAML.
