"What’s up Professor Oak?" I asked Professor Oak, who had called me at the pokemon center between Cerulean and the City of Pearls. Rainer, Dan and Matt were training outside.

"I just thought that you’d be interested in something. Have you watched the news lately?" he asked.

I shook my head as we were in communicating through the videophone. "I didn’t think so. Eusine is dead." I looked at him, not believing what he was saying. Eusine?? The one who claimed that he discovered Suicune’s DNA pattern??

"He was found dead with his son at the Ruins of Alph. Two researchers were found dead inside one of the temples too. Also, strange writings have appeared on the Ruins’ walls. They appear to read ‘Dark and Light’ and some other words in an unknown language" Prof. Oak continued. I was awestruck. Could there be a connection between the bird in my dreams and the shadow of the bird I had seen and the recent events??

"Descr…" started Professor Oak but was cut short as the lights in the pokemon center blinked and the power went out.

"Shit!" I swore under my breath. The pokemon center door opened and in came Rainer, Dan and Matt; followed closely by a nurse Joy. "In you go children! Its too dangerous out in the dark when the power’s out!" she said and shoved them in. "Did your pokemon grow any levels yet??" I asked them.

"Look at this!" said Dan and threw out a pokeball. My jaw ALMOST dropped. There was a towering Gyrados in front of me. "Yeah I know!" he said looking at my face "It had to beat 50 other magikarps to evolve. It was a pain in the ass training it. But now its my most powerful pokemon! Right Dracon??" said Dan, trying to look at me and Dracon at once. "That’s great! I could never train a Magikarp! Partly because I hate them…" I said. "Dracon growled and was about to smash my head to the floor, when Dan recalled it. "It’s a little short-tempered" he said smiling and took a seat beside me, as did Rainer and Matt. "Our pokemon each grew two levels" They said.

"Too bad you couldn’t come." Said Rainer, stretching his legs and dozing off. In a short while, Matt was asleep too. We were in the main hall of the pokemon center where the couches were and the lights still hadn’t come back. Dan was playing with his Pikachu and Growlithe, while I was reading the TM-HM book with my flash-light. There was a flicker of light outside. Dan and I walked up to the window, as did the other trainers. It was a huge lightning bolt, but to or astonishment, there was no rain.

Just then, the door opened. Matt and Rainer woke up at the sound of it. And in came three people. One was officer Jenny. Probably from Cerulean, as she was wearing a tear shaped pin. The other two were…

Rainer gasped. "Brad! Karen! What are you doing here?"

"Rainer?" they both gasped at the same time "How are you? I didn’t expect to find you here! I thought you’d be in Celadon by now with Rave…" Brad stopped talking. Then Rainer pointed in my direction.

I turned back towards the window and looked outside. "So that’s you ex-best friend?" asked Dan. I had filled him in with all the details. "The nerve he has…" continued Dan, but stopped as Brad came near us.

"Hello Raven" he said sheepishly "How are you?" I ignored him. How dare he talk to me after all that had happened! Talking as if nothing had happened at all! "Let’s go up Dan! Something smells really rotten here." I said to Dan and we both went up. The lights flickered on and off. Just as we reached upstairs, we were chased down by Joy’s Chansey and I had to be in the midst of Brad’s company. He was now talking to Rainer. I couldn’t help overhearing their conversation.

" Weird things are happening in Cerulean" Brad was telling Rainer and Matt "There have been numerous power shortages like this one and there are sudden giant waves in Cerulean bay and the Magikarp and Gyrados are not migrating, which they do this time of the year. Same with Goldeen and Seaking. Today, the bay was littered with thousands of dead fish pokemon. You could barley see the water!" And hey continued talking. There was another flash of lightning and the night was bathed in light for a second. Lightning couldn’t be that bright could they???? The lights flickered again. Suddenly, there was a loud screech. All of our heads turned towards the window again. Something golden-yellow flew past like a blur.

Some trainers gasped and ran out the door, not heeding to Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny, who had been sent here to drop off Brad and Karen. As they were Gym-Leaders, they had security because of the happenings in Cerulean. I was rooted to the spot and was the only trainer in the pokemon center other than Brad, Karen, Dan and Rainer. Oddly, all of this seemed very familiar… Was it in a dream? A dejavou? .Karen came and stared out with me. It seemed that Brad had sent her to calm me down. I exited the pokecenter. The screech rang through the air again, shattering the calmness. I jerked my head towards the noise and saw something very astonishing. A golden orb was flying in the air, cutting the dark blanket of the night sky. Suddenly, I found myself surrounded by trainers, looking in the same direction as I. Just as the orb disappeared, the lights came back on. "Weird!" said a few trainers as they went back into the pokemon center "was that a pokemon?" I was mystified. This all seemed very familiar. Was the golden orb a pokemon?? There were rumours that a top trainer from pallet saw a unidentified pokemon too when he started his journey… Was this the pokemon he saw?? My thoughts were interrupted by a hand touching my back from behind. I turned around. It was Karen. I moved away, and to my dismay, she followed me.

"What are you following me for? Don’t you have Brad??" I asked her, in a impolite tone. "I didn’t know you liked me!" she replied. This was a downright lie. It was SO obvious I liked her. Even Brad, the shallowest person in the world recognized it.

"Just Go away! Shoo! I don’t want a dog following me! Go to your boyfriend Brad! Go and lick his @SS!" I said. She burst into tears and ran into the pokemon center. What was I just did wrong? I thought. No. It serves her right. I started to think about the orb again, as I slowly walked back to the pokemon center.

"Will Julius Raven please come to the main desk please??" came Nurse Joy’s voice from the PA system. I got up from bed. I was in my room for about an hour, thinking, trying to remember where I had seen the bird before… IF I had seen it at all. I climbed down the stairs and caught Dan looking at Karen, with love-sick eyes, but as soon as he saw me, he said "Look at her! How ugly can a girl get?" I marched to the front desk. "’Julius Raven?" asked Joy. "Yup" I said. "Phone call for you!" she said and pointed to a videophone in her office. I marched into the office and shut the door behind me. Professor Oak was on the phone. And he had a strange and mystified look on his face.
