Kaci’s Story

Chapter 7

K-A-C-I

Long chapter! (Or at least compared to my normal) I don’t own pokemon and this story is rated PG-13 for violence. Nothing else.

When Kaci woke up, the first thing she saw was Blaze. Throwing her arms around him, she looked around. Sitting around a fire a little bit away were three teenagers, a girl and two boys. And they were eating. Now that she felt a little bit better, Kaci was hungry. But she couldn’t seem to get her voice to work. Thankfully, the girl noticed her.

“So, you’re finally awake, huh? How do you feel?” she asked, sitting down by the sleeping bag someone had put Kaci in.

“Well, I don’t feel like I’ve been run over by a train anymore. Just a herd of Tauros.” The girl laughed.

“That bad, huh? Hey, maybe it was Ash’s herd. You hungry?” Kaci nodded enthusiastically, causing the girl to laugh more.

“Can you walk?” Kaci nodded.

“Okay. Just lean on my arm and we’ll walk over there.” She did as instructed, and was grateful when she got to sit. Walking was harder than she remembered. The girl sat next to her and handed her a bowl of soup. Kaci started to eat, but slowly. Who knew if these people cooked well?

“Hey, this is good!” Kaci exclaimed, surprised.

“I’m not sure if I should take that as a compliment or an insult,” laughed the taller boy. Kaci just blinked a couple times.

“Umm… he means that it’s a compliment you said it was good but you were surprised about it,” the girl explained.

“Oh.”

“Umm… so what’s your name?” asked the other boy.

“First tell me who you are.”

“Uhh… I’m Ash, this is Misty, and he’s Brock. Now who’re you?”

“Fair’s fair. You tell me, I tell you… My name’s Kaci.” Misty turned white.

“Kaci? Could you spell your name for me?” Kaci looked at her. She was acting strange.

“K-A-C-I. Why?” Now it was Ash’s turn to turn white.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~FLASHBACK~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was late at night, and Brock was already asleep. Misty was looking at the stars, and Ash came and sat next to her.
“Misty?” he asked hesitantly.
“Yeah?”
“Whatcha thinking about?”
“This is going to sound stupid…” she warned.
“Go ahead, I won’t laugh.”
“Well, I was thinking, when I grow up, if I had kids I’d want one of them named Casey.
C-A-S-E-Y. For a girl.”
“Hmm… I like that. But I’d spell it different. K-A-C-I. Not so many letters.”
“You know, I like yours better.”
“Me too.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~END FLASHBACK~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There was a minute of awkward silence, where nobody knew what to say. Ash finally blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

“Where are your parents?” The sadness and pain in Kaci’s eyes deepened at the reminder.

“They’re dead. A suicide bomber flew into the building where my mom and dad worked. Even if they had survived the initial explosion, they would’ve been killed in the fire that came after.” Her voice was sad, with a hint of bitterness.

“I’m sorry,” Ash apologized.

“Don’t be. My parents were never home anyway. They lived in a completely different city, because of their jobs. They only people I ever saw were the gardener, his wife, their son, and people who occasionally visited.”

“You’re not from around here, are you?” Misty asked quietly.

“No, I’m from some islands out in the ocean. They’re named for the continents, kind of ironically. There’s four of them. They’ve been at war for the past ten years. The Orange Isle was already conquered by Johto Isle, the one I used to live on was the Kanto Isle, and the other one was the Hoenn Isle. Things got so bad after the first couple of months that the government started giving newborn babies pokemon. That’s how I got Blaze.

“My dad was in charge of the Kanto Isle defenses, and my mom was a nurse. The whole stupid war started a month after they were married, and three years before I was born. That’s why I like it here already. You don’t have to constantly worry.” Ash, Misty, and Brock sat in stunned silence.

“Well, umm… Why don’t you stay with us? We travel a lot though, so you might get kind of tired,” Misty finally said, breaking the uncomfortable silence. A spark of hope lit in Kaci’s eyes.

“Really? You mean it?”

“Of course, silly. Why else would I ask?” Kaci surprised everybody when she threw her arms around Misty in a hug.

“Misty?”

“Yeah?”

“You remind me of my mom. It’s kind of weird, actually. Ash reminds me of my dad, and I feel like I’ve met Brock and Pikachu before. I don’t know why.” Both Ash and Misty blushed at being compared to a married couple, and Brock took a picture of them silently. Pikachu took advantage of the moment to search for a bottle of ketchup, and Kaci felt content, for a moment.
