Diary, part 5: Intimidating Eyes After Misty came back to camp after walking off to get dressed, she caught Ash staring directly at her. His food sat ignored in his lap. But she just shrugged, maybe he was thinking about something and spaced out and she happened to walk in the way. But when she walked around him, his eyes stayed directly on her. Misty decided to ignore this. "Brock--" "Your food is right here," Brock said, pointing to her plate while eating off his own. "Oh. Um...what is it?" "Chicken tenders." "Chicken tenders? For breakfast?" "I couldn't find anything else. We really need to stock-up...it was the last thing we had. Better cherish it--we gotta share one small can of tuna for dinner. No lunch," said Brock. "Aw man! I can't wait to get to the next town! Let's start off as soon as we finish breakfast!" "Yeah, just like everyday," Brock said with a smile. Misty and Brock ate, only looking at their food, so neither of them noticed what Ash was doing. He was eating, but simultaneously staring at Misty. So focused on her, the spoon almost missed his mouth. Fifteen minutes into their destinational hike, Misty noticed something. Ash was being strangely quiet--and still staring at her! His face was envisioned as nonchalant, but his eyes showed that something was bothering him immensely. This was driving Misty crazy; she was getting uncomfortable and frustrated. She wondered if something was on her or if she forgot to put on a VERY necessary garment. She found this quite difficult to ignore. 'Ever since last night, Ash has been looking at me like he knows something I don't notice,' Misty thought. 'Aw, the heck with it.' But Misty just did not know how right she was... Three hours later, at the Pokemon Center... "Thank you for the pokemon, Ash. They will be revived shortly, and here is the key to a room for you and your friends. There are two bunkbeds, cable, room service, etcetera," Nurse Joy said happily, handing Ash the keys. Ash nodded and just absently stared at Misty as his hands blindly moved to feel for the keys. After Joy put them in his hand, she noticed this. "You like her?" she asked. Ash said nothing, just walked back to the couch. 'How rude,' thought Joy. 'He didn't even say anything when he came in!' As Ash sat on the couch, Misty's eyes just happened to wonder over to Ash, who was STILL staring at her. Misty couldn't take this any longer. She decided to go over to him and talk to him. "Ash, is something wrong?" Ash did not reply. His eyes stayed glued into hers. "Do you have an eye problem?" she asked. Ash still stared at her with no words. "Stop staring at me, Ash! You're scaring me!" Ash kept his stare...and smirked. Misty backed up from him. Now he was REALLY scaring her. That smirk...that smirk wasn't any regular, sly smirk. It wasn't any confident smirk. It was...an evil smirk. But an evil smirk? From ASH? Misty snatched a key from Ash's hand and ran up to her room. She set down her backpack, and just as she was about to turn around to slam the door behind her and lock it... She was face to face with Ash. "What do you WANT from me?" Misty asked, feeling tears of fear threatening to form and fall...fast. Ash just walked up to her. Misty backed up. They kept going until Misty ran into a wall--dead end--which didn't take too long. Soon as Ash had her cornered, Misty looked at the door. Ash had shut it and locked it. Ash held her against the wall by her neck. "Ash--what are you doing?? What's wrong with you??" "You unfaithful bitch." Misty gasped. "Wh-what??" "You know exactly what you did." "What did I do?" "You snuck in my room last night and took something, didn't you!" "N-no, Ash! I'd never--" Ash held her neck tighter. "--ALL RIGHT! I took something." "Was it money?" "No." "How can I be so sure, as much as you complain about your bike?" "If I had your money for my bike I would have left and bought it by now!" "Then what was it!?" "Your diary, okay! I took your diary, but I gave it back! I'm sorry, Ash, I guess curiousity just took over me..." Ash looked deeply into her eyes, even more deeply than he has done all day. He shook his head and smiled a little. "No, Misty, *I'm* sorry." Misty looked at him. Ash's smile dropped and turned into an upset frown as he finished, "Sorry I ever met you." And with that, he let go of her. He snatched the locket she gave him right off and shoved it into her hands. Misty looked down at the locket brokenheartedly. When she looked back up from it, Ash was gone. Misty dropped to the ground and cried. Ash did not hurt her in the place others would have killed her; Ash would have held her like that but he would never hurt her, but she felt so guilty, so rotten for sneaking in a diary. His diary. Ash had every right to react the way he did, and be upset. He had every single right... Meanwhile, 2 minutes later at the park... "You ready?" "Yeah." "I was afraid that with you spending more than a year with them, you'd grown attracted to them." "Not anymore. Let's go and get this over with." "Only if you're ready." "I SAID I'M READY!" "You sure? You seem upset!" "Yeah, I am. And now is the only time I'll be ready--when I'm this upset and disappointed in someone." "Okay, I see you're ready. Since we're leaving and it doesn't really matter to you anymore, mind telling me who upset you so bad?" "Her name is Misty. I've spent so much time with her, I've had these mind tricks making me think of me and her as a... Listen, let's just go." TO BE CONTINUED...
