Part 1: Introduction

Power Possession

Her light footsteps creaked quietly, but she pressed on.
The dim light projected upon her face before her, as the
light on the side of her reflected her shadows upon the walls.
She looked around to check once more if anyone was around her.
Nothing.  She kept tiptoeing across the large hall.  Suddenly,
a bright light flickered on in a room ahead of her.  She gasped
lightly, then hurried to cover her mouth.  She felt a presence.
That presence approached her, but she couldn't see the face, even
in the blinding light.  She reached for her pokeballs in
her bag, and slowly backed up.  Someone was still nearing.  She
shivered a little...and braced herself more.  She could not find
her pokeballs, so she had to depend on the fact that whatever would
happen, would happen.  She took in a deep breath as the light came
off and the person she could hardly see came within her bubble.
She folded her arms.

A small candle was light within the 'stranger's' hands.  A
familiar face was revealed to her.  "Brock?"

"Misty, why are you sneaking around like that?  I thought you
were some kind of killer or just a burglar," said the slit-eyed,
dark-brown haired teenager.

Misty gave a wholehearted sigh of relief.  "Oh...Brock, it's only
you.  Ditto...definitely ditto.  I wanted something to drink, and
I didn't want to wake anyone."

"Um...Misty?"

"Yeah?"

"The drinks are THAT way.  Coming THIS way that you were coming,
you walk to a dead end--Ash's room."

"Oh...how silly of me, teehee!  I guess it's just so dark in this
place...."

"Mm hm," Brock said in nonbelief.

"Well, what were YOU doing back there?"

"I had to go check on Ash.  I was just on the way back to the waiting
room."

"Well, is he alright?"

"He's fine.  I know you were going in there to check on him and talk
to him a little, but don't--he's trying to rest."

Misty sighed.  "All right."

Brock put a hand on her shoulder.  "He's just got a little bit of
a high...very high...fever.  With the right medical attention he'll
be fine," he said.

Misty nodded.

"Come on, let's go back into the waiting room," he said.

I...

Will...

Haunt...

You....

I...

"Wh..wha?"

Will...

"Wh-who's there...?" asked Ash weakly.

Intimidate...

"What?  Who's there?  Where am I?" he asked.  All he saw was black
darkness.  He tried to move, but for some reason, his body was entrapped
in something...he felt his arms having various thorns or something poked
into them.  He started to hear light beeping sounds, beeping once every
second.

You....

Then, Ash started to hear a heartbeat.  It pumped quietly at first, then
got a little louder every 5 seconds, as did the beeping.

I...

Ash got extremely scared.  The constant pumping and beeping got disturbingly
loud, and yet the voice overcame it with the same hushed tone.

Will...

Now, the pumping and beeping was too loud to bare.  Ash tried to cover his ears
but could not move his hands.  The pumping and beeping was also getting dangerously
faster.

Get...

Sweat rolled down Ash's face.  Now, it felt like he couldn't even breathe.

You....

"STOP IT!" he yelled.  His head started aching, and his chest hurt beyond belief.

I...

Ash screamed in pain.

Will...

Ash screamed in fear.

Possess...

He tried to catch his breath, but he still could not breathe.  He felt something
grab him and press something against his nose.  Now it was impossible for him to
move.

YOU!!!!

Suddenly, his eyes shot open, and he almost bolted up to a sitting position but
that same something pushed him back down.  He shook his head violently, trying
to at least shake away whoever was holding his head down.  He could not breathe.
He stopped panicking for a moment, starting to realize what was going on as he
looked around.  He saw a breathing machine being placed on his face.  He calmed
down, feeling his breath return to him.

"Ash, we need you to stay still and calm down, while we take these needles out," the soft voice
of a female doctor whispered to him.

Ash nodded.  He looked over at the heart monitor...that was the beeping.
And when he was scared, he realized, he just heard his own heartbeat and they
had to calm him down before it was too stimulated.  And he could not move at
first because he was unconscious, then because they were holding him down.

He sighed deeply in relief...it was all a nightmare....

*~*~

"Is he all right?" asked Misty and Brock in unison, standing up from their
chairs in the waiting room when a doctor approached him.

"He's fine.  Kid had a bit of a nightmare...he was definitely scared.  His
heart started racing and it almost went a little too high, but, we managed
to calm him down before it could.  He was panicking a lot, and it took 7 of
us to hold him down.  His resistance is amazing...he's pretty strong to be such
a sick patient."

"Ash is full of surprises," Brock said, then he laughed.  Misty and the doctor
joined him.

"So, can we see him?" Misty asked after the very short laughing break calmed.

"He looks like he needs a little company comfort...so, I actually recommend you
go see him, and now," said the doctor.

"Thanks," she said, then went to his room.

"Well, aren't you going?"

"Ash seems to know Misty pretty much better than me," said Brock.  "I think I'll
see him after Misty does.  Either way, I'm just as glad that he's okay."

"All right," said the doctor with a smile as he left to his other patients.

*~*~*~*~

"...And that was what happened."

"I will haunt, intimidate, get, and possess you?" she repeated.

"I swear, that was what I heard!"

"Now THAT'S a nightmare," said Misty.

"It was way too weird...it felt so real...."

"Well, Ash, it's not.  And you'll be fine, I promise," she said.  "Nobody's gonna
haunt, intimidate, get, or possess you."  Misty sighed.  "Are you feeling any
better?"

"Besides a big headache and wanting to vomit once every 5 seconds?"

"I thought they gave you medication for that, with all those needles you had in you."

"Well, it didn't work."

Misty felt his forehead, then quickly removed her hand.  "Geez, Ash, touching
your forehead is like touching a stove eye on High," she said.  "Are you sure
you're all right?"

"I'll live," he said with a smile.  That was his first smile in three days.  "You
sound like my mother."

Misty giggled a little.  "I'm just worried about you, that's all."

"Yeah, I know."  Then, Ash yawned.

"I think you should go back to sleep now," she said with a bit of concern.

"But I don't want to have that nightmare again...."

Misty sighed.  "Want me to stay in here until you go to sleep?"

"Please?"

She smiled.  "Sure."

"Thanks, Mom," he joked.  She giggled again.  She watched as Ash closed his eyes,
laid back, and seemed to fall asleep immediately.  She ran her fingers through
his hair lightly, and held his hand.  After a moment, she frowned.

'That nightmare did sound real...' she thought.
