Chapter Thirteen: Evolution I didn't know what to do. I was trapped in an underground prison where I was going to die? What a great night. I walked over to the human cages with Charmeleon, recalling Ponyta. The cages seemed to be empty, well the first few were. The others held people in them, but they were sleeping. Most probably put to sleep by hypnosis, I thought. I peered into them, then grabbed Charmeleon's tail and shoved it through the bars of one cage, and gasped. "Oh no!" I gasped quietly. There, at the back of the cage in the dark, lay Mathew. He looked like a stick, all skinny and was pale and weak. "Charmeleon, sorry about the tail, but look at this!" Charmeleon peered in and was shocked. He slashed with all his might, but couldn't break the bars. "Nice try," I whispered. "Char," Charmeleon grunted. He wasn't going to give up. A laugh came from somewhere up above. I saw Anne Louise walk in, with a smile. "Trying to save your measly friends?" she laughed. "Ms Holland," I hissed. "Haa-Haa!" she cackled. "I'll teach you a lesson! Go! Raticate! Murkrow!" "Charmeleon!" I called. There wasn't much time, and I had to save my friends! "Do the double combo!" Charmeleon leapt up off the ground and fired two jets of hot flame two Raticate and Murkrow. Murkrow flew up into the air, to be slashed by Charmeleon's razor sharp claws. As the gravity pushed Charmeleon down to the ground, Charmeleon powered his legs up, and as he hit the ground, he stamped his feet, creating an earthquake. Raticate was hurt badly, but Murkrow avoided the attack, and began to nose dive toward Charmeleon. Charmeleon pulled its hand back and slashed it across Murkrow's face, while whipping Raticate's back with its flaming tail. Raticate didn't survive for long with this treatment, and soon fainted. Charmeleon was a tough fighter, and the experience had been building up in his system ever since he was a Charmander. Charmeleon exploded in a bright white light. He glowed brightly, lighting up the cold, dark dungeon that I was battling in. I stopped from where I was trying desperately to force open the locks on Mathew's cage, and looked over at the glowing pokémon. My glowing Charmeleon began to form another shape. It grew bigger, and got bigger arms, legs and an enormous flame. It's tail grew larger too, and two wings sprouted from its back. Charmeleon's head and jaw expanded enormously as he grew. When the bright light faded, I didn't have a Charmeleon anymore. I had a Charizard. "Charizard!" I called. "Ponyta! Go battle! Charizard!" I was calling Charizard over to help me rescue Mathew and the others while Ponyta would battle. Ponyta knew what to do, I had confidence in her. Charizard came over and tore the bars out of the cage. I ran over to Mathew and sat him up. "Uh," he moaned. "Mathew," I whispered frantically. "Wake up! You have to wake up! There's not much time!" "Team Rocket…" he moaned. "Team Rocket is here… Got Joseph… Little Buddy hurt…" "I know," I replied softly. "Charizard. Grab some others, and fly out of here. Take them to the bush near Pokémon Camp Bay. Then come back for more." "Char," Charizard responded, going off. I left Mathew, and ran over to Dion, showing him to Charizard. "Let me get his pokémon," I said. Charizard ripped the cage off, and I grabbed Dions pokéballs, releasing his pokémon. "Abra, Drowsee, Gastly. Dion and the others are in danger. I need your help. Gastly, go hypnosis Anne Louise, Ms Holland. Drowsee, Abra, start using psychic attacks to get rid of the bars imprisoning our friends. Go!" The pokémon ran (and floated and flew) off to do there job. I just hoped that we could do it in time, before it was too late…
