Midnight

Part V

----------------------

The sun was setting, as the Umbreon emerged from their sleeping cave into the cool twilight. Midnight looked around, but Ray was no where to be found.

Strange… Midnight thought. It's not like Ray to go off without telling me.

"Midnight," Ebony called, appearing beside him. "What's the matter?"

Midnight frowned, in thought, letting Ebony study his expression, trying to figure out what the matter was. Suddenly, Midnight gasped, realization forming in his mind. His pupils turned tiny, and his eyes widened with fear as he turned to Ebony, panicked.

"The Houndoom!" Midnight gasped.

Ebony gave a confused look. "What are you talking about?" she asked.

Midnight moaned. "Ray needs our help," he told Ebony. "I had a dream… A mysterious voice was telling me that the Houndoom have an alliance and that any time now they will strike and over power our pack. And then all the blurry stuff became normal and it was Viola who was telling me that we're in trouble."

"You're going to trust a dream with Viola in it?" Ebony questioned.

"Yes, but now Ray is missing. We have to go find him!" Midnight answered, worried. They gazed at each other, and Midnight finally broke the silence. "Ebony, even if it's not true, Ray is my best friend. Ever since we first hatched we've been friends. I'm not about to let my ultimate best friend die."

Ebony sighed. "I understand how you feel, but how can you trust them?"

"It's not a matter of trust," Midnight reasoned. "It's a matter of getting Ray back. Now are you in or out?"

Ebony sighed again. "I'm in. I'm doing this for Ray."

Midnight nodded. "Then lets go!" Turning, Midnight and Ebony used a quick recover to freshen themselves from the sleep, and began to dash through the pack and to the stream, where the HootHoot normally went. The stream was wider at their end than at the other end, where the HootHoot nested. It was too wide to jump across, so Midnight and Ebony plunged into the water and began to swim as quickly as they could across the widened part.

Jumping out onto the bank of the river, with a quick shake of the fur, the two dark pokémon were off running again, around trees, through long grass, over small shrubbery, until Midnight came to a stop, leaving Ebony to slam into his back.

"Ouch!" Ebony cried.

"Shhhh!" Midnight hissed. Peering through a bush, the Umbreon spotted a circle of Houndour and one Houndoom, surrounding a cowering Umbreon, with a familiar silver moon shape on its tail. Ebony gasped at the truth.

"Moon-ray."

"Let's go save him," Midnight suddenly said softly. Ebony frowned and put a paw on his tail, stopping him. "What?"

"No," Ebony whispered. "We need a distraction. Then one of us can rush in and grab him."

"Like what?" Midnight questioned, wanting to go and rescue his friend.

Ebony leant over and whispered her plan into Midnight's ear.

Midnight:
You never failed to amuse me, so I won't let go
You never failed to let me down, I truly know.
You stood by me in the dark times, when the merge went through
And now I know in this hard time I'll be there for you…

Midnight suddenly released a ball of toxic gas that hazed around the canine pokémon, making them cough and splutter. Ray looked up and around trying to escape, and quietly ran out. Inferno saw him and jumped up, with Kala, to stop him, but Inferno soon found himself on the floor, with claws in his side that belonged to Ebony.

Ebony:
You may think you've won this war but clearly you are wrong
While we're friends we stand together, tall and strong.
I'm sorry Mister dark dog but this is the very end.
I won't let you lay a paw on any of my friends

Ebony snarled at Inferno and removed her claws from his skin and slashed him across the face. Ray ducked as Kala smashed into him, and they went rolling down. Midnight jumped down to fight off some of the Houndour that were beginning to surround Ebony.

Midnight:
So take a step back now,
Make sure you say good bye to us and
Leave us now
We don't want you around because
You're in the wrong
You don't belong
And we've tried to show you how but you refuse
And now you have to loose
Because you're one canine in the wrong

Ebony and Midnight slashed and crunched and faint attacked and knocked out maybe one or two of their team. Alas, the Houndour were gaining on them, and the two Umbreon found themselves backing up as the Houndour started to walk towards them, pearly teeth bared. In the middle of the Houndour walked Chain.

Chain:
Why should I step back when I'm just here
You know you're in the wrong and you're shaking with fear
Its not as if you can try and fight all of us off
'Cause there's no point in battling when you've lost

Ebony took a step forward, surprising Chain and his pack.

"No." she said, clear and simple. Chain frowned, and was about to jump when out of the bushes appeared Ray, and swiped at Chain's face, leaving a small gash in his cheek.

Ray:
Can't you get a grip and stay away
Your not wanted here today
Can't you just leave us all in peace
Return and retreat
Because we don't want to fight no more.

Ebony:
Go on and get lost!

Midnight
We don't want you because…

Midnight, Ebony, Ray
We're out of here…

Turning, Midnight, Ebony and Ray fled from the scene as quickly as they could, panicked and scared. Inferno stepped forward, about to chase after them, but Chain put his paw in front of Inferno as a warning to stop.

"Let them go," Chain commanded. Inferno looked up at Chain's stern face with astonishment. "We will get them soon enough. All of them, not two males and a runt."

"Yes Chain."

"I don't believe we did that!" Ebony gasped with happiness.

"I didn't know the Houndoom could be put off by singing," Midnight added.

"With your voice, anybody would be put off," Ray teased. The three Umbreon rolled around in their pack territory, laughing and joking.

<Good work> a voice suddenly sounded, although it didn't sound. It was like, it was there but it wasn't there.

"What was that?" Ray asked, sitting up, ears pricked for the sound again. Ebony growled, a low rumbling from her throat.

"It's a psychic," she growled. "That Viola is here."

<Very good.> the voice giggled. Viola suddenly appeared, right in front of Midnight. Startled, Midnight toppled over backwards.

"Now what do you want, interfering lump of lilac," Ebony demanded, still with dislike to the Espeon kind.

Viola sighed. "Ebony, I'd like to make amends. Would you like to take a walk with me?"

Ebony grumbled and muttered. "Hmmph." That Viola, she makes my fur crawl. I know the Espeon are up to no good, and here she comes all happy-chappy. If only she'd go back to where she came from.

"Please? Maybe we would stop this ridiculous fighting if we talked," Viola offered.

Right, I'll just take a walk, and find myself in the middle of what Ray was in before. But, on the other hand, she is only trying to help… But there is no other hand. Umbreon don't have hands, they have paws. And there is no other paw for Viola. I suppose I was going to go hunting anyway, I might as well go hunting with her. She's better than Ray at least, Ray is only really good company when Midnight is around. But Ray is also nice… How am I thinking of Ray? Do I go or stay?[

"If you wish you can stay behind and I'll go walking with Midnight," Viola suggested.

That's it. I'm going with her, no way she's taking Midnight.

"I'll go," Ebony sighed, making out it was a big deal. "So long as we can hunt a few HootHoot on the way."

"That's good then," Viola smiled. "See you guys later."

"Bye," Midnight said, flipping himself up off the ground.

"See you," Ray replied, tail wagging. "Hey Midnight, how bout a game of tag?"

"You're on," Midnight grinned, as the two Umbreon became like pups again, running around and in between the older Umbreon as they chased each other under the silvery light of the moon.
