Part I - The New Master

Chapter One -

The F
inal Battle
********************

She walked, head up high, proud. Long dark jade hair, streaked with bright lime streaks, bounced with every step. Expensive joggers on her feet, thudding on the sea blue lino tiles, squeaking every now and then. Jeans, with a loose chain belt, jingling with every movement. A white top on her upper body, with no sleeves, cutting off just above the belly, covered by a leather jacket. She approached the doorway and exited the long hallway, into the stadium.

The roar was defining. The crowd all stood up and applauded, whistled, screamed for this mid-twenties girl. She looked up at them, her wicked gold eyes gleaming excitedly. This was her final moment, where she would triumph, defeat the current master of the Tri-League Championships, and take control.

But, before that could all happen, she had to battle. Win her way to the top.

Making her way to the trainer box, from the other end of the field came another trainer, this one a boy. He looked to be about 28, and with his soot black hair and determined brown eyes, he was an experienced trainer, and current champion of the Tri-League Championships.

Every year the championships were held, and that decided the pokémon master of the Tri-Leagues. The Tri-Leagues consisted of three leagues, the Platinum, the Rebellion and the Satumi leagues, each with seven gyms and three elite masters to beat before earning your way into the Tri-League Championships. It is a very difficult thing to do, and to get into the final battle is a very hard thing to accomplish.

To loose it all in the final round would be hard too.

The male trainer stepped into the box and the platforms rose, the green platform on the female's side. The announcer looked down onto the match and began doing his job.

"Welcome pokémon fans to the final round of the Tri-League Championships!" the announcer announced. "Here, in the green trainer box, we have Irene Cooke, master of the Rebellion League, and an experienced pokémon trainer. In the red box stands Byron Holms, current Tri-League Master. He has returned to defend his title as the Tri-League Championships. It's going to be a fiery battle today fans. Can Irene handle the heat of the battle? Will Byron be able to face the pressure of defending his title? Let's watch the match!"

Stepping onto the sideline, the referee called out to the trainers. "This is the final match for the Tri-League Championships. It is a 6 on 6 battle. On the whistle you will release your pokémon. If your pokémon leave the arena you will be disqualified." With that, the referee blew his whistle, sharp and shrilly.

Both Irene and Byron tossed crimson and white balls into the arena, releasing their first pokémon. White energy enfolded from the depths of the pokémon homes, and began to morph. Irene's pokémon energy soon formed the unmistakable shape of a Golduck, while Byron's battler turned out to be a well-trained Meganium.

"And it looks like Irene has the disadvantage here folks! Can she overcome the obvious type pothole and come on top of this battle?" the announcer cried into the microphone.

The battle had begun.

"Meganium! No time to waist! Razor Leaf!" Byron called to his partner, who nodded, and shook the neck leaves. Out from the neck shot two leaves with edges as sharp as blades that went spinning through the air towards Irene and her Golduck. With a swift jump, the leaves flew past the water duck and out of harms way.

Smiling smugly, Irene gave Golduck his first command. "Golduck," Irene began, in a voice that was cold as icy wind, and calm as the sea on a nice sunny summer's day. "Hit Meganium with your Ice Beam."

Byron gasped, as if the glacier beam struck him. Meganium would surly loose half her HP, and there was a 50/50 chance that she could freeze. He needed a counter attack that would give Meganium time to get away. "Light screen!" he yelled out to Meganium.

The crystal beam zoomed forward, and it looked as if Meganium couldn't pull the attack off fast enough, when a shimmer appeared through the air and the ray of ice smacked straight into the barrier. Meganium turned and ran away from the barrier in case it broke, but the barrier just froze and became a solid sheet of ice standing straight in mid air.

Byron knew that Golduck and Irene would need another attack seeing an ice beam could easily be deflected with one Light Screen. "Sunny day!" Byron commanded Meganium, who cried out her name in agreement and began to focus. Her whole body began to glow gold, and the clouds in the sky cleared, making the sun beam its rays down onto the battlefield.

"Well after a powerful ice beam from Golduck, this Meganium is deciding to change the weather forecast with a pretty strong sunny day. Golduck and Irene seem to have no reaction to this attack!" the announcer shouted, stating the obvious in a fancy way to the audience, who cried out and cheered for their trainer.

Irene's gold eyes surveyed the scene, as the daylight grew brighter, blinding Byron and most of the audience. But Irene was used to this; she had to be to win this battle. "Solar Beam!" Byron yelled. Meganium fired out one heck of a beam, glowing bright lemon, and charging towards Golduck with mega speed.

Irene kept her cool, waiting for the right moment. "Golduck, wait, wait," Irene told Golduck. Suddenly, her voice changed, as she became tensed up. "ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION!" she roared the attack to Golduck, who began rushing around the field shooting ice beams all around Meganium. After countering the first few ice beams with solar beams, Meganium began to light screen herself, trying to evade the attacks.

Soon, she found herself boxed in; she had surrounded herself with light screens, even the top, as Golduck had leapt up to fire on from the sky. "Mega! Meganium!" she shrieked from inside the box. Golduck began to focus, and grinned madly. His body was surrounded by violet aura and so was the box, as Golduck psychically began to shrink Meganium's space.

Seeing this, Byron drew out his pokeball. "Return Meganium!" he called, firing out the pokeball's beam, which rebounded off the box. Trying again, Byron found that he could not recall his pokémon from the light screen box. Irene smirked.

She had the match at her feet; without changing pokémon she would be able to defeat Byron. "Enough Golduck," Irene spoke, her voice returning to its normal icy state. "Now, explode the box."

Golduck focused once more, listening to his trainer, and the box suddenly shattered, bits of the light screens flying everywhere. Meganium came out gasping for air, wheezing and spluttering. She stood for a moment, breathing heavily, then collapsed. Irene smugly smiled. "You're going to need stronger pokémon to over power me," she informed him, her voice mysteriously cold.

Byron ignored her comment, and returned his leafy pokémon. "You did a very good job, I'm proud of you Meganium."  Looking up, Byron selected another pokeball and threw it, the red and white blur spinning into the battlefield. It popped open, and out shot what looked like a bird of light, colorless energy searing into the sky. As the pokémon became visible, the announcer gasped and started babbling on to the audience about how rare Lugia were.

Irene wasn't stunned by the grandness of the godlike Lugia in front of her. Smirking again, she called back her Golduck and released another pokémon. This one was different to her Golduck. It had fur black as the nights sky during the depths of the witching hour, rings on its body the color of freshly rubbed brass, and eye the color of gold that has been locked away in a trunk at the bottom of the sea for eternity.

The Lugia stared down at the creature thinking 'I, the great Lugia, have to battle a good for nothing low life Umbreon scum? I'm worth more than that thing if it was shiny.' The Umbreon that Irene had sent out looked up at the Lugia. 'That bird? That chicken? I have to battle that thing? I could take it down with one paw tied behind my back and my eyes super glued shut.'

It was an underestimate to say that the Umbreon didn't think much of the legendary pokémon. "Aeroblast!" Byron shouted as Irene calmly ordered, "Umbreon, Energy Flow."

Lugia began to stare at Umbreon, looking into those first place medal eyes, as Umbreon watched back. A white fiery blast came rocketing down with a flap of Lugia's wings, as Umbreon just watched it. His eyes turned to goldenrod as the attack hit him; it seemed to go into him until the Aeroblast seemed to be a white cord pulling Lugia down.

Lugia struggled to keep air born, but with the force of the cord, and the evil smirk on Umbreon's face, it was hard. The Lugia struggled in the air while Umbreon sniggered, the fear traveling down the cord and powering Umbreon up even more.

"Lugia! Hydro Pump!" Byron shouted in order to win the match. He was already down one pokémon to Irene; two would just ensure his loss. Still struggling in pain, Lugia tried as hard as he could to create a force of aquatic energy that seemed to rush through the stadium and come exploding up from the hard ground of the battle ring, skyrocketing into the air with force as strong as the force a space shuttle uses to launch itself into space. This Hydro Pump missed Umbreon, but was followed with several more, each rocketing up from the middle of the earth and appearing in the Tri-League Finals.

Umbreon went flying into the sky, surprised, and broke the connection between Lugia and itself. "Now! Lugia! Attack!" Byron shouted, a glimmer of hope shining through the battle.

Lugia flew fast, ramming into Umbreon's side, and knocking Umbreon down. As Umbreon fell quickly, Lugia flew quicker, right past and under the dark pokémon, slapping him back into the sky with his tail. Umbreon soared up, loosing energy quickly. Irene watched calmly, not panicking. If all failed, she would bring out her most powerful pokémon.

Lugia began to draw golden power, as a ball of orange and yellow welled in the back of Lugia's throat. It enlarged, and with a sudden flash, shot out in an arrow shape, headed for Umbreon. The hyper beam shot right through Umbreon, and began to head down to the earth again. It didn't seem to shoot literally through Umbreon, but it invisibly held Umbreon tight as it shot down in a blur of black, orange and yellow. At the last second, the hyper beam dissolved, and Umbreon smacked onto the hard concrete with a sickening thud.

"And this battle is over, Lugia beating Irene's powerful Umbreon with one impressive Hyper Beam!" The announcer babbled. Irene just lifted the pokeball and called Umbreon back.

"A good battle," she coldy congratulated. "Yet it is time for my third pokémon."

The rest of the battle was not that spectacular. Irene's third pokémon, a Houndoom with a lot of experience was able to take down Lugia with one hot fire blast that took off quite a lot of Lugia's wing feathers, causing Lugia to plummet to the ground and land outside the ring. Instant disqualification.

But Byron's Poliwrath, an intensely trained boxer, was able to extinguish Houndoom with a powerful bubblebeam. After a series of dynamic punches of course. Not to be competed with, Irene fought back with her Murkrow, who just pecked the Poliwrath until it bled enough to faint. The Ninetales belonging to Byron was very powerful, yet even though several continuous Fire Blast's caused Murkrow to step out of the arena, the Tyranitar brought out by Irene knocked Ninetales out without a moment to spare. Byron fought back with his Steelix, and knocked Tyranitar out of the arena.

Irene gasped. She was down to her last pokémon. This…this thickheaded trainer thought he could beat her. Irene scowled, for the first time emotion creeping into her facial expression. "You may have knocked 5 of my pokémon out of this battle, but you are no match for this pokémon," Irene told Byron. "You will be wiped out with this pokémon, by his minimal power! His ultimate power could destroy the earth!"

"Well if he's so good then let me see him," Byron taunted eager to get this match finished.

Irene's eyebrow flicked. She carefully picked a pokeball from her belt, this one black and gray, with touches of smoke white and silver. She looked at it, her emerald eye searching the surface of it as she spoke, this time her voice so icy that it sent shivers down Byron's spine. "You wish to see my ultimate weapon? You will defiantly regret it. Only those who battle against it are those who loose not only the match but their lives." With a flick of her wrist, the pokeball was flying through the air and it bounced on the broken ground of the battlefield.

It bounced, and bounced, and finally came to a stop after rolling a while. It opened and out soared a blob of pure black energy that seemed to turn the sky pewter gray with swirling clouds, and turn the stadium cold.

"I present," Irene grinned, evil creeping into her smile and eyes. "Missingno."

The Announcer gaped at this energy, swirling around in the sky, just blackness. It made the pitch black of the night look golden and bright, and as for anything else black, it just seemed gray compared to Missingno.

"Missingno, I command you to attack! Faint that Steelix," Irene told it. The great black bird, Missingno as Irene called it, opened its eyelids, to reveal two gold glaring eyes. It screeched as it dived towards the ground, its beak first, aiming right at the Steelix.

Connecting with the hard metal that covered the Steelix's long, snake like body, a loud crack echoed around, as the Steelix lifted its head and roared in pain. Missingno flew away a bit, watching the Steelix cry out in pain, and finally thud into the ground, fainted.

"One attack from this strange bird pokémon and Steelix is down! I wonder how strong this pokémon could be!" The Announcer commented.

"Very strong," Irene answered, annoyed with the announcers stupidity. Byron called back his Steelix.

"What am I to do?" he sighed, burying his head in his hands. His pokémon, there was only one left. Could it take on the Missingno?

Byron had no choice. "Go!" Byron shouted, throwing the pokeball into the field. It opened, and out came another pokémon, still bright with white energy. It stood with the energy still around it.

As the energy faded, the announcer gasped. The audience cheered, and Irene smirked. "So inexperienced, so common with trainers, so pathetic," she sneered.
