Disclaimer: Too weak. Can't write disclaimer. Must start fanfic now or I won't have enough energy to go on. I do not own Pokémon. This story was written in January 2004.
We join our two heros and of course Pikachu today right outside the Vermilion City gym right about to go in so Ash can have a battle with Lt. Surge.
"Are you ready, Pikcahu?!" Ash asked his best friend riding on his shoulder.
"Pika chu!" It said putting it's hands up and making fists while small sparks of electricity came out of it's cheeks.
"Hold it, Pikachu. Save it for the battle," Misty said.
"Yeah, let's go!" Ash yelled. Ash, Misty, and Pikachu went towards the door and went inside. It was dark inside.
"Hello?" Ash asked in the dark. "Lt. Surge? I'm here for my battle." The lights turned on.
"Ash you made it! Took you long enough," Surge said to him.
"Well now that I'm here let's battle!" Ash yelled to him very excited.
"Pika pika chu!"
"That's what I like about you, Ash, always wanting to get right into a battle," Surge said.
Surge, Ash, and Pikachu got into position ready to start the match. Misty went off to the side being sure to get a good seat to watch the match. Right before the match, Misty looked up at the large clock above the battlefield on the wall. It read 11:07.
'That's good. This match won't take that long and then we can finally get to the cruise,' Misty thought to herself.
The ref. at mid-field began to talk, "This will be a one-on-one Pokémon battle with no time limit. The gym leader, Lt. Surge, will be using his Raichu. The challenger, Ash, will be using his Pikachu. Begin the match!"
"Go Raichu, use thunderbolt!
"Raiiiichuuu!!!" it said as a giant electric bolt emulated from its body.
"Go Pikachu, use quick attack!"
Pikachu successfully dodged the thunderbolt and ran off with incredible speed. Pikachu hit Raichu with its quick attack.
"Great, Pikachu!" Ash called out.
"Raichu now that it's close use a bodyslam!"
"Pikachu, use agility!"
Pikachu started running around Raichu so fast it looked like there were more than one Pikachu.
"Great, now run towards it and use iron tail!" Ash yelled.
Pikachu started to run towards Raichu and jumped in the air so it could use iron tail, but then,
"Raichu, now use thunderbolt!" Lt. Surge screamed out.
Raichu sent out a great thunderbolt and it hit Pikachu in mid air! Pikachu dropped down to the ground, helpless for a couple of seconds.
"Now use another bodyslam, Raichu!"
"Don't give up Pikachu! Jump up and use iron tail again!"
Right before Raichu's bodyslam hit, Pikachu jumped up, using its tail to jump, and hit Raichu in the head with it's iron tail!
"And now that your close use a thunder attack!" Ash yelled out.
Pikachu sent out a giant thunder at very close range!
"Raichu don't give in yet! Why not you use your thunder attack!
"You never learn Surge," Ash said under his breath. "Pikachu use agaility again!
"Raiiiiichuuuuuuuu!!!!" It said as a huge thunder attack came out, but it had no chance to hit Pikachu because it was moving too fast.
While Pikachu ran donuts around Raichu, Raichu was panting hard. It was all out of energy!
"Excellent, Pikachu! Now finish it with a quick attack!" Ash yelled for the final blow to be hit.
Pikachu ran towards Raichu, and Raichu was too tired to dodge it! Pikachu's quick attack hit, and then Raichu went down to the ground.
"No! Raichu! Get up, try to get up!" Lt. Surge screamed out.
Raichu attempted to get up, but it was too much. Raichu collapsed back down and had swerls in its eyes.
"Raichu is unable to battle! Pikachu wins!" the ref. yelled out.
"Allright!!!" Ash said taking a pose.
"Pi pi ka chu!" it said while giving the peace sign.
"Raichu return," Surge said as it returned to its Pokéball in the pink energy. "Thanks Raichu, you were great."
"We did it Pikachu! We beat Lt. Surge!"
"Yes you did. That was a great match, Ash," Lt. Surge said to him as he was walking towards Ash.
"Great match Ash. You did great Pikachu!" Misty said walking up to him and Pikachu.
"For proof of you deafeating me, I give you the Thunder Badge."
"I already told you, Lt. Surge. I don't need that because I'm going to the Ohnee region to compete in the Ohnee League," Ash said to him.
"Oh, Ash, just take it. Keep it as a memento of the great battle that you had," Misty said to him, annoyed of his immiturity.
"Well, allright. Wait I know!" Ash yelled out as he knelt down to face Pikachu.
"Pikachu, I want you to have this badge so that everyone we meet will know that you were good enough to beat Lt. Surge in the Vermilion City gym," Ash said to Pikachu.
"That's a great idea, Ash. Pikachu should have it since you don't have any use for it," Misty said to Ash with a nice tone of voice.
"Pi chu, Pi."
"Your welcome Pikachu, you earned it."
Misty took a quick glance at the clock which read: 11:18.
"We should leave by at least 11:40 so we'll have enough time to get the ship before it leaves us behind."
"It won't take us that long...will it," Ash asked Lt. Surge clueless.
"I don't want to have to run for the ship, Ash," Misty said back getting annoyed.
"You won't have to even walk," Lt. Surge said to Misty, "because we'll all take my truck to the docks.
"Oh, thank you, Sir," Misty replied.
"I'ts no problem, anything for such a pretty girl," Surge said to her.
"Oh, Lt., your too much," Misty said while blushing a little but not enough to be noticed. 'Why can't Ash talk to me like that?' Misty thought to herself.
"When do you want to leave?" Lt. Surge asked still directing his attention to only Misty.
"Well if we're leaving in your truck than I would say right around 11:50. That way, well be a few minutes early," Misty said back.
"That's perfect. Now, you two must be hungry, especially you Ash after that battle," Lt. Surge said. "How about you join us for lunch, we have...," Lt. Surge broke off looking at the clock on the wall, "just about a half an hour until you have to leave."
"Thanks, Surge. Pikachu and I are really hungry," Ash said to him.
A few minutes later all of them were sitting down on a table already eating lunch. This is because Lt. Surge had planned this in advance.
"So have you ever been to the Ohnee region, Lt. Surge?" Ash asked.
"No, but I've heard that it's a great place, something like Kanto but still a lot different. The Pokémon there for example are all different. Ohnee is so far away that there are no wild Pokémon there from Kanto, Johto, or even Hoenn. There are not a lot of people who would go that far out of their way to find some new Pokémon.
"Well that just makes it even more exciting. It would be so awsome if I was one of the only people I know to see these new Pokémon," Ash said excited about the trip.
"Don't forget about Gary, Ash, I bet he's already there studying the new Pokémon," Misty said to him.
"How long are you planning on staying in Ohnee, Ash?" Surge asked.
"As long as it takes me to win the Ohnee League. Considering how long it took me the last two times, it will probably take me about a year to get to the Ohnee League and win.
"Don't get too overconfident, or you'll just defeat yourself," Misty said to Ash.
"And what's that suppossed to mean?!" Ash said angered.
"Oh, nothing. Just when you get too overconfident, you lose faster," Misty said and than giggled a little.
"Is that so, Misty. It doesn't matter if I'm overconfident or not, I win battles with skill and with the help of my Pokémon at my side," Ash said motioning to Pikachu who was sitting on the table eating Pokémon food drenched in ketchup. Then Ash started shaking his head at Pikachu.
"Pikachu, why do you like that stuff so much?" Ash asked his Pikachu.
"Pi, pi chu pikachu," it said with a smile on it's face.
"I wish meowth was here so I could understand what you're trying to tell me," Ash said to him.
"Well you're wish has come true," Meowth said jumping into the room through a window.
"Prepare for trouble," Jessie said as she too jumped in through the window and taking a pose.
"And make it double." James said as he fell in through the window.
"To protect the world from devistation!"
"To unite all peoples within our nation!"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now or prepare to fight!"
"Meowth, that's right!"
No one even got up from the table.
"Don't you guys ever get tired of saying that motto everytime?" Ash asked them.
"Of course not. That motto strikes fear into all people who hear it!" James said to them.
"Who do you three think you're kidding? The only time that we were afraid of you was the first time we met you," Misty said to them.
"Enough of this! We're here for your Pikachu!" Jessie yelled.
"You want Pikachu," Ash said finally getting up, "then here you go! Pikachu, thunderbolt 'em!"
Pikachu jumped up off the table and delivered a huge thunderbolt attack,
"I was afraid this would happen," James said sadly just before the attack hit.
There was a huge explosion and Team Rocket started to fly away,
"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Ding.
"Look what you've done to my gym!" Lt. Surge yelled. He was of course refering to the giant hole in his wall from which Team Rocket flew out of.
"Oh, Surge, I'm sorry. We didn't mean to do that," Ash said.
"Is there anything that we can do before we leave for the ship?" Misty asked.
"No, there's not much that you can do. Officer Jenny will be here soon to investigate the explosion. Why don't we just leave right now for the docks?" Lt. Surge suggested.
"If you say so," Ash said. "How about it Misty, do you want to leave now?" he asked.
"I guess if we really can't do anything..." Misty said back.
"Okay, it's decided. Let's go," Lt. Surge said in a sad tone.
Misty, Ash and Pikachu followed Lt. Surge to his truck and started to get inside.
"Hey, there's not enough room for both of use in the front!" Misty pointed out.
"That's okay Misty, I can just ride in the bed of the truck with Pikachu," Ash said to Misty.
"Thank you Ash, that's sweet," Misty said.
"Forget about it," Ash replied.
Ash climbed in the back of the truck with Pikachu while Misty and Lt. Surge got in the front.
They were already outside so within a couple of seconds they were off heading towards the docks where the ship was.
"Pikachu, I want to tell Misty you-know-what, but I don't know how," Ash said making sure not to use the word "love" when he was talking.
"Pi ka chu pi."
"I know I can't understand you but I would still like you to listen."
Pikachu just nodded.
"I was thinking about the cruise some more and I think that I'll tell her when we are at a dinner or something like that. What do you think?"
Pikachu nodded his approval to his best friend.
"Thanks Pikachu, you're a good friend."
Just then the truck hit something in the road and the truck stopped.
"Hey, what was that?!" Ash yelled to Surge.
About a minute earlier, Lt. Surge started to talk with Misty about Ash.
"I don't know if Ash knows or not, but you sure don't try and keep it a secret," Lt. Surge said to her.
"Keep what a secret?" Misty asked acting dumb.
"You know, Misty, that you love him," Lt. Surge said.
"Hey! Not so loud!" Misty yelled. She quickly looked in the back of the truck at Ash and saw only that he was talking to Pikachu.
"Good, I don't think her heard you," Misty said. "Okay, I do, so what? I was thinking about maybe telling him on the ship. What do you think?" Misty asked Surge.
"I think that that would be a great idea. A week alone will really get you in the mood," Surge said laughing a little.
Just then, the truck ran over a pot hole in the road, the truck stopped, and then they heard Ash yell from the back,
"Hey, what was that?!"
Surge tried to start the truck, but failed.
"The truck won't start again," Surge said to Misty.
"But the cruise. How will we make it in time?" Misty questioned.
Ash got out of the back of the truck, went over to Misty's door and opened it.
"What's the problem, Surge?" Ash asked him.
"The truck won't start again, and I don't want to have to use my Raichu because it's still pretty tired from our battle earlier.
"What about Pikachu?" Misty suggested.
"Pikachu doesn't have enough power because of the battle with Surge and Team Rocket," Ash replied. "There's no other choice, Misty, we're going to have to run."
"Oh, why me?" Misty asked.
Misty exited the truck ready to have to run if she has to.
"What time do you think it is Ash?" Misty asked him.
"It's probably around 11:40."
"Great, that means that we probably don't have to run after all," Misty said reasurred that she wouldn't have to run. Sadly, Misty didn't get her wish. Officer Jenny was coming down the road on her motorcycle and stopped to investigate the problem with the truck.
"What seems to be the problem here?" Jenny asked.
"We were driving down the street and we hit a pot hole which caused the truck to stop, and now we can't get it started again," Lt. Surge said getting out of his truck and walking towards Officer Jenny.
"Lt. Surge, just the man I needed to see. There were reports of an explosion in your gym. What happened?" Jenny asked.
"Team Rocket showed up to try and steal Ash's Pikachu but Pikachu attacked with a thunderbolt which blew a hole in my wall," Surge said.
"Where's Team Rocket now?" Jenny questioned.
"Well we don't know. The force of the thunderbolt sent them flying away and we don't know where they landed.
"Is that all?" was Jenny's final question.
"Yes, that's all that happened," Surge ended with.
"Okay, then I'll call up a tow truck to get your truck off the road.
"Excuse me Officer Jenny," Misty said walking up to her, "can you please tell me what time is it?"
"Oh it's...," Officer Jenny looked at the watch on her wrist, 11:43."
"Oh that's just great Ash, now I think we will have to run after all," Misty said to him.
"Run to where?" Jenny asked them.
"We have to get to the docks by 12:00, or the cruise leaving for Ohnee will leave without us," Misty said.
"Oh, well, I can get both of you there in no time," Jenny said before her radio went off.
"Come in Officer Jenny, come in," the radio said.
"Jenny here. What's the situation?"
"It's Team Rocket at the Pokémon center. They're trying to steal all of the Pokémon."
"Oh no!" Jenny yelled. "I'll be right there. Sorry kids but I have to go."
And before they could say anything else, Jenny was off on her motorcycle speeding towards the Pokémon center.
"Can't I get a break?" Misty asked herself.
"Well Misty, we've run out of options, but we still have to run for the ship," Ash said to her. "Are you ready."
"As ready as I'll ever be. It's not the first time Ash," Misty said.
"Bye Lt. Surge, we have a ship to catch," Ash said right before he took off.
"Bye Lt. Surge, see the next time we're in Vermilion City," Misty said.
"Bye Ash, Misty, Pikachu. See you next time.
And with that they were off. They knew that if they ran, or at least jogged, they would get there in about five to ten minutes. They also knew that if they walked, it would take too long to get to the ship and then they would be left behind.
As they were running, Ash was a little behind Misty for two reasons. The first was because Pikachu was riding on Ash's head and second, Misty had longer legs than Ash. Ash asked Pikachu,
"Pikachu, do you think that you can run on the street. You're slowing me down a little."
"Pi chu," and then Pikachu jumped of of Ash's head and almost instantly caught up with Misty.
But still Ash was too slow. He tried his hardest to keep up with Misty, but then he just started to fall behind again.
They had probably been running for about five minutes when they finally got sight of the ship. It was a very big ship and it looked very luxurious from the outside.
'I can't wait to get there,' Ash thought to himself. 'I'm so tired from running.'
They were still just a couple of minutes away from the ship now. They could hear the warning whistle from the ship telling people that the ship will sail out in just ten minutes.
Finally, about five minutes later (Ash was too slow) they all arrived at the ship and were starting to climb the stairs up to the door on the side of the ship.
"Welcome to the St. Marie, may you please show me your tickets?" the guy checking for the tickets asked at the door.
"Ash! The tickets!" Misty said to Ash, flat out of breath.
Ash was so tired it took him a couple of minutes to recover from their long run to the ship. Finally, Ash took his backpack and started to look through it for the tickets. Ash was so disorganized, but he found the tickets after about a minute looking through his backpack and handed them to Misty who handed them to the guy taking the tickets at the door. He quickly looked over them and saw that they were real and finally said,
"Well since you are our last guests, I'll take you two to your rooms right now," the guy said. "My name is Adam by the way, nice to meet you two," Adam said while outstretching a hand. Ash got up off the floor and shook his hand and then Misty shook his hand too.
"Will you please excuse me for a second," Adam said and went over to the open door at the side of the ship and made sure that no one else was running for the ship. He saw that there wasn't, so Adam shut the door and locked it. Then he turned back to Ash and Misty and asked,
"Would either of you like me to take your bags for you?"
"Oh, yes please, if it's not too much trouble," Misty said to Adam.
"Not at all," Adam replied. "And you sir?"
"I'll keep my backpack, but thanks all the same."
"Suit yourself," Adam said to Ash.
It took them a while to get to their room because they had to go up two decks and then down a few more hallways until they finally got to their room. Adam opened the door with an electronic card and went inside to place Misty's backpack on the floor. Ash, Misty and Pikachu followed Adam in and were relieved to find that there were two beds in the room.
Adam turned to face Ash and Misty and said,
"Just a few more things. Here are your key cards," and Adam handed both of them their key cards, "so you can get back into the room later. And if you would like to call room service, then just pick up the phone by the beds and dial one, and that's it."
Then Adam held out his hand ready to accept his tip, but Ash just looked at him clueless.
"Ash! That tip," Misty said to him.
"Oh, yes, of course." Ash got out his wallet from his back pocket and gave Adam twenty dollars.
"Thank you, Sir. Maybe I'll see you two again sometime," Adam said to them. "Now if you'll excuse me, I must be going." And with that, Adam exited the room and there was just the three of them.
"Well now that we're finally here and I havn't had a shower in about a day, I'm gonna jump in there and get ready," Misty said.
"Ready for what?" asked Ash.
"I just feel dirty, so if you don't mind..." Misty said as she walked into the bathroom with her backpack. Ash could already hear the water starting to run.
"Well, I don't want to stay around here and do nothing," Ash said to Pikachu. "Lets go and explore the ship and maybe we'll meet some Pokémon trainers."
Ash went over to where Misty's backpack was and put his own backpack down. Then, Ash and Pikachu left the room, with Ash's key card, ready to meet some new people and explore the ship.
So, another great instalment of "New Beginnings." The next part will be up probably within the next two weeks, I'm sorry but I have other stuff to do too. Please review. Thanks for reading my story. That's all for now. Misty101803 signing off.
