A/N: *Eats pizza* Lalalalalalalala, what? Oh! This is my new fic! Um, I own all the characters in this fic, so in order to use them; you have to ask me first! That's right. I own Gilby Susan High School too. Same rules go for it. Um, I made this story up over night when I was trying to fall asleep, that's why some stuff might not be too good... but it's still a good story. Enjoy!

Chapter 1
           The Crystal

"Have you heard about that new transfer student from Los Angles?" whispered a girl to her friend in the back row of the class room.
"Yeah, Celest McFerend, I've heard of her," replied her friend.
"I heard she never sleeps," piped up a girl in front of them.
"Never sleeps?" asked the first girl.
"That's right," added the 3rd. "She never EVER goes to bed!"
"That's crazy!" waved off the 2nd girl.
"But it's true," said a strawberry blond next to them. "She doesn't go to bed, ever. And I'm talking literally."
"Well, why?" asked the fist girl.
"'Life is too short, and so full of stuff, there is no time for sleep.' Those were her exact words," answered the strawberry blond.
"How do you know that?" asked the 3rd girl.
"I'm Libby, Celest's tour guide for getting around the school." The blond smiled.
"Ohh," breathed the second girl.
"Never sleeps huh?" The first girl looked thoughtful. "That's weird, but I think it's pretty brave and cool!"
And all true. Celest McFerend was a transfer student from Los Angeles to Huston Texas. Her mom traveled a lot, and Celest deeply believed in living everyday to the fullest. She NEVER slept. Literally! She was in about every club at school, played almost every sport, and was anything but a couch potato.
Celest believed that life was big, yet short, so sleep she never did. She was perfectly aware of the fact that it was dangerous for her heath for her to never get any sleep, but was already living life to the fullest, so it didn't bother her.
She was one remarkable girl that was about to embark on an adventure that would evolved a lot of sleep. And she didn't know it.

Rain clouds filled the sky as Celest gloomily wished it would go away. Today was her first baseball game since living in Huston, Texas. And that wasn't the only reason she wanted it to go. She had to walk home from school too, and wasn't in the mood for running through mud puddles. Finally in the middle of the science teacher's speech the bell rang, and Celest was out that door before you could yell 'FREEDOM!'
"See you tomorrow Celest!" yelled Libby as her friend ran down the steps, and toward her house. Celest gave Libby a little wave over her shoulder as she ran through the rain to her house in the woods.
Celest ran toward her house, hoping it was coming up so that she could get out of the rain. On the way she grunted to herself and thought Rain sucks. Now I'll have to do the dishes or watch TV or something...
While she thought, she accidentally missed a root from a tree sticking up in the ground. She tripped over it and fell face first in the mud.
"Great," she muttered to herself. She was about to stand herself up when she noticed something shiny jutting up from the mud puddle. "What's this?" she asked herself as she reached for it. Standing up she examined the clear jewel in her hand. Celest then noticed it was still rainy. In a hurry she stuffed the jewel into her pocket and continued on her journey home.
Once she got home, the teen decided to look more closely at the small gem. She noticed a small hole at the top, and thought of how pretty the jewel would look around her neck. She grabbed a small black thread and strung it through the hole in the jewel. Then she placed it on her neck, and got to work on her chores.
The next day Celest sat on her porch, smiling. The rain had stopped at 11:00, and she had gone out side to see the sun rise.
It was a Saturday. That meant no school. This was the first weekend living in her new home. Celest was excited to go check out the city. And who wouldn't be. Every night she had spent searching the small forest out side her house, and Celest was ready for people. It wasn't that the forest was boring, she just wanted more excitement.
Celest waited at the bus stop and took it into the city. Once there she helped herself around. As she was walking down a sidewalk, not watching where she was going, she accidentally ran into someone.
"Sorry," she said at the same time her victim did, but when she looked up, she recognized the person immediately.
"Libby?!"
"Celest?!" The two yelled each other's name at the same time.
"Well, what are you doing here?" demanded Libby, who was now smiling.
"I came here to find some action you?" asked Celest, also smiling.
Libby grinned in kind of sly grin and stood up straight. "I got invited to Heathers Hoppkin's Birthday party. You know Heather right?" she asked.
Celest nodded. "Yeah she's the most popular girl at school. How did you get invited to her party?"
Libby sweatdropped. "Well, you see, I am popular. In my own special way," the blond boasted.
"Yeah, right. I'll believe that when you get a boyfriend." Celest smirked.
Libby sweatdropped again. "Well, I don't see you with one!" she yelled.
"So I'm not popular and I don't have a boyfriend, big deal. I'm new and I got all year to find one."
"Hmm. I hate it when you have a point," stated Libby with a frown. Celest smiled. "Anyway," started Libby getting annoyed, "I'm aloud to bring one person just so long as they aren't a 'geek'. You wanna come?"
Celest looked at Libby and laughed. Libby frowned. "What are you laughing at?"
"You're pulling my leg," Celest said. "At this moment, I couldn't go to a prep party if I tried!"
"No I'm serious." Libby smiled. "Come on. You even said yourself you had all year. Well, all year is a long time. Why not getting started right now?"
Celest looked at Libby for a long time. "Okay," she sighed finally. "I'll go, but if this is a trick-"
"Then you can hurt me all you want."
"You really aren't lying, are you?"
"Nope! Not this time pal! Now let's hurry, we have to go get Heather's birthday present!"
The two ran throughout the city searching for the perfect presents. Finally after about 4 hours, they met up in the park, both panting.
"I got mine, you?" asked Celest plopping down on a bench.
"Yup. Gosh, can it be any harder to find a decent present in this town?" wined Libby.
Celest sighed. "Tell me about it."
Libby chuckled a tired laugh. "I'd rather not. It'd take me all night." The two laughed a little at the joke, and then decided they should head over to Heather's house so they wouldn't be late for the party.
Libby rang the door bell next the big oak doors of the mansion like house just out side the city. Noise could defiantly be heard inside. Celest could hear voices and music, which meant the party had just started.
Then there were footsteps, indicating someone was going to answer the door. That someone had short brown hair and blue eyes. She was rather skinny considering the fact that she did gymnastics. She wore a pink tube-top and denim flares. A small silver, fake, tiara was set on her nicely combed head of hair. Celest recognized the teen as Heather Hoppkins, the birthday girl.
"It's about time you got here Lili," said the prep.
"It's Libby," Libby corrected Heather.
"Whatever, and who are you?" Heather turned and looked at Celest.
Celest opened her mouth to talk, but Libby cut her off. "This is my friend Celest McFerend. She's new."
Heather took one more look and brightened with memory, "Oh yeah! You're that one Californian girl who never sleeps!"
Celest blushed a little. "That would be me," she said.
"Well, come on in! The party just started," Heather moved aside for Celest and Libby to walk into the room.
Celest looked at all the people around the room. Some of them she recognized from some classes, but most faces were new to her.
As she looked around she noticed how many different things she could be doing besides just standing there. She could watch a movie up stairs. Naw, she wanted to DO something. She could dance... Nope, she didn't have a date, and doubted she would find in the next couple of hours. She could always eat. Um, no.
She considered every possibility, and was about to sit down in thought when Libby called her name.
"Hey Celest, come over here. I have some friends I want you meet," she said.
Celest stood up immediately and walked over to where Libby was with 5 other teens.
"Celest, these are my friends, Joe, Eric, Shawn, Stephanie, and Nikie. Guys, this is Celest, she just moved here from Los Angeles," Libby said.
"Hey, nice to meet you," said the brown headed, blued, eyed, football looking guy, named Eric.
"Yeah, nice to meet you too," Celest said. She was kind of shy, but not a lot. It was hard to find her very shy or embarrassed.
"How was it in California?" asked Joe, the black haired, tall and skinny boy. But there was something about his voice. It was very high and squeaky at first, but started to get deeper as he said more. He coughed and then looked at Celest with a smile.
Celest looked at him weird, and then said "Fine... um, I hope you don't mind me asking, but what was wrong with your voice?"
Joe looked curious for a while and then remembered. "Oh that? That was just helium. We're having a competition to see who can swallow the most with out passing out," he explained.
Celest suddenly realized all the balloons tied to railing next to him. "Isn't that dangerous?" asked Celest still looking at the balloons.
"But no one's passed out so far," the girl with brown hair in pig tails called Nikie said. "We're all too worried to suck in too much."
"Want to try it Celest?" Libby asked.
Celest hesitated for a while. She never really had ever sucked in helium, but a lot of her friends had. And she'd always wanted to see what it was like. And to tell the truth, she was kind of scared, but she had never turned down a challenge, and that's how she wanted it to be.
"Sure," she nodded smiling. The gang cheered and Celest sat down to join them.
For a long while, they sucked in helium and compared voices to see who had the highest one. It was kind of childish, but it was fun, and that's that mattered.
Celest was on a role for quit sometime, and then it was time for Heather to open her presents. She did, and thanked everyone. After cake, and a small, well okay big, cake fight they had, all the teens went back to what they were doing.
Since it had been a while, Celest had completely forgotten about the number one rule when sucking helium, don't swallow so much.
"Come one, Celest, you won last time you can do it again!" Libby cheered as Celest and Joe both picked up a balloon. Celest opened her's a little bit, put her mouth to it, and sucked in. For a while. For too long. The last thing she saw was Libby face looking worried and saying, "Okay, Celest I think that's enough...", and a little silver glow coming from her chest.
It was the jewel she had found.

To be continued...

A/N: *eats more pizza* Hmm? I finished? Oh yeah I did, didn't I? ^_^' Anyway... that was the first chapter. Hope it didn't disappoint you too much.
