Final Fantasy: Eternal Calm
A Final Fantasy / Pokemon crossover fic
Story rewritten by Moya

Desclaimer: I do not own Pokemon or any of the characters, they belong to Nintendo and GameFreak. I also don't own any 'Final Fantasy' game, especially 'Final Fantasy X' - they belong to those wonderful creators from Square-Enix (known as SquareSoft). I don't have any profit from this fic, so please don't sue me. This is written just for fun.

Big hugs and thanks to Reene for being my beta reader. I hope you had fun while changing my awful mistakes. Ah, that must have been hilarious, I make strange typos. ^_^

Prologue
City of the Dead

The chill air was enough to make him shiver. Ash closed his eyes slowly, trying to focus on the warmth of the campfire in front of him. It was almost comforting to know that such kind of warmth existed. He would gladly give everything away just to be sure he could feel it every day. But not here. Not in Zanarkand. Not in the city of the dead.

He stood up, stretching like a cat until his back gave a small 'pop' sound. Other Guardians were either staring at the fire or sleeping soundlessly on the remains of soft grass.
She was watching the red flames as they consumed the oak wood. Ash noticed the look on her face and it made his heart tear in two.

//Does it… does it really have to end like this?//

Misty didn't even notice when he stood up, but she felt the boy's hand drop on her shoulder. When she looked up at him she saw those clear brown eyes that lately were constantly filled with concern. She just nodded and once again turned her gaze back on the campfire.

It hurt him to see her like this. Hurt to know that there will be no other evenings like this, no more nights like the one in Macalania Woods. There was no way they could be together, even if she didn't want to fight till the end. He would have to disappear too…

Ash left the circle and made his way up to a small hill. He gradually climbed up until he reached the summit. No, she wouldn't quit and he knew perfectly why. She was so devoted to her mission that nothing or nobody would change her mind. He gritted his teeth.

//Even I am not a good enough reason.//

Zanarkand, even when destroyed was surely beautiful. The dark ruins that dominated over the red sunset reminded him of home.

He *was* home.

A soft rustling of silk material caught his attention and he slowly looked over his arm just to notice her standing right behind him. She smiled with that same smile she learned to put on during her pilgrimage, to mask all her true feelings and thoughts. Her red hair framed her face perfectly and covered her eyes a bit when she came to his side. She shifted her gaze from one of the ruined observation towers to the Zanarkand Dome.

"This must have been a beautiful place when you lived here."

That sentence took him by surprise and for a while Ash couldn't suppress a word. He just smiled and nodded. One sparkling pyreflie flew near his face, tickling his skin with its warmth.

"It still is."

A moment of cherished silence allowed them to hear some words from the Guardians' conversation near the campfire. Neither paid much attention to it.

"Are you ready?" He asked. Maybe she was. But even though he was suppose to deal with the truth, *he* still was the one that surely wasn't ready.

"No." She whispered, surprising him. "But… you will be here, right? We'll deal with it… together."

"Right." Ash smiled again. After that he slowly took her hand and squeezed it gently. "This is our story."

Misty smiled. Tomorrow. Tomorrow they will have to cope with all feelings and thoughts. Tomorrow they will fight, They will share blood and tears, after she will be gone. But for today…
She squeezed his hand tightly.
Today she will try to remember the warmth he gave her.

A/N:
I know that now it does not make a lot of sense and that this prologue is rather short, but the next part will be longer, that's for sure. For all those that know Final Fantasy X - I hope that you will like my version, though it is a bit different. I also hope that this fic will not grow to 20 chapters, but who knows, lol. I'll try to update as soon as possible.
If you have any suggestions or comments send them trough review box or directly to my e-mail.
