Part 1 Ash had just come off a Hoenn League Victory when he decided to stop at home in Pallet before heading to the Battle Frontier. “Mom, I’m home,” he yelled. “I’m in the kitchen honey. There’s a visitor who came to see you.” “K. Mom.” Ash walked into the living room and saw the girl he had left behind so long ago. Misty was sitting on the couch reading a magazine. “K Mom.” Ash walked into the living room and saw the girl he had left behind so long ago. Misty was sitting on the couch reading a magazine. Her cerulean blue tank top showed off broad shoulders, and her denim cutoffs covered long, slender calves. Her daybreak orange hair cascaded around her shoulders as she sat reading the latest issue of Trainer’s Digest™. Wow! She just keeps gettin’ better every time I see her!! Ash thought as he stared in amazement. She probably only wants to visit though. Her boyfriend’s waiting for her in town, the other half of Ash told him. “H-hey Misty,” he stammered. Misty looked up. “Oh hey Ash, you’re early.” “Well my Pidgeotto’s been improving its fly,” Ash mumbled sheepishly. Stop the small talk, he told himself. “So why did you come to see me?” Ash broke through to the point. He wanted to get this over with. Oh wow, Misty thought. Ash has really matured. You could even say he is………she searched her mind for a word that could describe the person before her. She finally settled on a word. Cute, she thought. “Misty? Mist? Are you okay?” Ash asked. “Me? Yeah, I’m fine.” “So…how have you been?” Ash asked, trying to break the ice. “Just fine,” Misty answered quickly. “Why did you come to see me?” Ash asked again. “Uhhh…… To ask if you wanted to go the festival at Indigo Plateau with me,” Misty said. I can’t believe I just asked him that. He probably has better things to do than go to a stupid festival with a childhood friend. Be prepared to leave Misty. “Will there be Pokémon battles?” Ash asked. “Yes, there will be Pokémon battles,” Misty sighed. “YES!!!” Ash yelled, raising his fist in the air. “Come on guys, let’s go!” he said to all his Pokémon. He put them in their pokeballs, slapped Pikachu on his shoulder, and ran out the door. “Can’t he ever take time off for something other than Pokémon battling? Like…me??? Misty muttered under her breath. She started to walk out the door, when she heard someone call her name. She turned around. It was Delia. “Misty, I heard there was going to be a dance at the festival!” she whispered excitedly as she placed a beautiful cerulean blue dress and a tuxedo in her arms. “Thanks,” she said, blushing. She tucked them in her bag, and then headed out the door to catch up with Ash. Part 2 “Come on Mist!” Ash yelled. “Did he just call me Mist? He’s never called me Mist,” she thought, giddy with glee. “Ash, I think we’re lost,” she said. “Then it’s just like old times then, isn’t it Mist?” “Yep, just like old times,” Misty sighed. Minutes passed as they walked along in silence. “Hey look-there’s the place where I caught my first Caterpie!” Ash said. “And there’s the place where Spearow attacked you and Pikachu!” Misty laughed. “It’s funny now, but it wasn’t when it happened,” he retorted, laughing. For a minute, it felt like they were on the road again, with just each other and their Pokémon. Then the laughing stopped, and the silence began again. ????? “Misty, are we almost to Pewter City yet?” Ash whined. “Almost. At least someone remembered to bring a map this time,” she replied. “Hey, maybe we can go check on our old pal Brock while we’re passing through. Then all three of us could travel to Indigo Plateau. Wouldn’t that be great Misty?” eagerly asked. “Ash, don’t you have Pidgeotto with you?” Misty asked as calm as she could. “Yeah, why?” Ash said. “Then why don’t we just fly?!?” Misty yelled. “Oh yeah. Sorry.” Ash shielded his face expecting to be whacked by Misty’s mallet, but he was surprised when all he saw was Misty glaring at him. “Pidgeotto, come out and fly us to Indigo Plateau,” Ash commanded. Ash hopped on Pidgeotto’s back. “Come on Mist, Hop on.” Misty jumped on behind Ash, wrapped her arms around his waist and tried to enjoy the ride to Indigo Plateau. Part 3 “Wow! Look at all the trainers! I can’t wait to battle ‘em all!” Ash declared. “And look! There’s Brock! Hey Brock! Over here!!” Ash yelled for Brock, waving his hands in the air like he was trying to land a plane. Brock finally looked over. “Oh hey! Ash, Misty, long time no see!” he said, giving each of them a hug. “I would like you to meet my girlfriend, Casey,” he said pointing to a beautiful girl. “Finally got the girl, huh Brock?” Ash said through clenched teeth, elbowing him in the shoulder. “Looks like I’m not the only one Ash,” Brock retorted. “I can only guess you guys are going to the dance together. I mean, it’s not like it’s not obvious you guys are in love. Walking around with each other, smiling, laughing, look a lot like the other couples around here.” “Shut up Brock,” Ash said through clenched teeth. “Just because you got a girlfriend doesn’t mean I have to have one too.” “Well you should have had one 5 years ago dude,” Brock said nodding at Misty who was chattering loudly with Casey about some new purse. “Should have had what?” Misty asked. “Nothing, Misty. Brock’s just teasing me. Come on, we better get moving so we can sign up for the battles. “Well at least Brock finally got a girlfriend after all these years. All the other ones seemed to think he was weird. Casey seems to really like him.” Misty said. “Let’s find out where you sign up for this tournament.” They walked up to a kiosk where a woman dressed in blue was talking on the phone. “I’ll have to call you back,” she said to the person on the other end of the line. “How may I help you?” she said like she had no intention of helping them. “We would like to sign up for the battling today,” Misty said. “Yah Yah I know. Just like everyone else here,” said the attendant. “Ok, I’ll need yaw names and hometown.” “I’m Ash Ketchum and I come from the town of Pallet,” Ash said. “My name is Misty Waterflower and I come from Cerulean City.” “I’m sorry-Misty was it? You’re a gym leader, right? That means you will be battling challengers like frizzy here. Thanks for registering with us; the contest will be held this afternoon. We wish you good luck!” she said with a fake smile. “I didn’t know about this! Why didn’t someone tell me?!?” Misty shouted, her face reddening. “You mean your sisters didn’t tell you? They were offered the position, but they said you deserved it more than they did,” the attendant said with a smug smile. “They said what?!?” Misty fumed. “You will need to meet with the other leaders one hour before the contest.” “Other leaders??” Ash asked. “Yes,” the attendant said, apparently fed up. “Every single gym leader from every single region will be here to challenge you. You have to defeat them all if you want to win. Anything else?” “Geeze, that’s like 24 battles,” Ash said astonished. “It’s a lot, but the grand prize is a trip around the world for 2. NEXT!!!” “Oh wow!” exclaimed Ash. “I can’t wait!” Part 4 The day passed on and ash won every battle that came his way. He ended up winning the first Annual Tri-Regional gym Leader’s Cup. “Congratulations Ash Ketchum! You have won the first Annual Tri-Regional Gym Leader’s Cup! You have also won a trip around the world for 2 on the St. Anne. Here are your tickets,” said the announcer. “Wow hanks!” said Ash. “Let’s have one more round of applause for our new champion!” ????? “Wow Misty, I can’t believe I won those tickets!” “Me either Ash. So who you gonna take?” Misty said playfully. “I don’t know. I’ll have to think about it.” Ash said. “Misty,” in a much more serious tone. “Would you like to go to the dance tonight with me?” Ash asked, nervous. “Why Ash, I would love to,” Misty replied. “You would?” Ash asked bewildered. “Yes Ash. I-I-you’re my best friend! Why wouldn’t I go with you?” “That’s a very good question Misty.” “Well here’s a tux so you can go get ready.” “Where did you get that?” Ash asked amazed. “Your mom,” Misty answered simply. Then, she walked off with her cerulean blue dress and into the girl’s bathroom. “Stop staring and go get ready Ash,” she said without looking back. Part 5 “Misty, come on. We’re almost late,” Ash said, adjusting his tie. “I don’t know. This dress looks ugly on me.” “I’m sure you look fine, now come on.” “Ok, I’m coming.” Misty stepped out of the dressing room and twirled around. “Well?” she asked, eyeing the look on Ash’s face. “Wow,” he said under his breath. “You look amazing Misty.” “Thanks,” she blushed and grinned. ????? “Ash, we have you and your lady special seats for tonight,” the announcer said. “Um sir? She’s not-,” Ash tried to explain. “Hush. When you give the signal, the dance will begin.” “Ok. Uh, let the dance begin!” Ash yelled. “Just so you know, you and your lady will have a special dance together at the end,” the announcer said. “But she’s not-,” Ash didn’t even get to finish his sentence before the man walked away. “Why does Ash look so stressed out?” Misty wondered aloud. The man who had been talking to Ash had apparently told him some news that had visibly upset him. As the night wore on, several girls asked Ash to dance, but he kindly declined. He was too anxious to do anything but sit and drink punch. ????? “And now, to conclude our evening, our champion and his lady will share a special dance,” the announcer announced. The music started, and nervously, Ash stood up, held out his hand, and said “Misty, may I have this dance?” “Why yes, kind sir. You may.” She stood up and took his hands. He put his hands on her waist and she put her arms around his shoulders. “I’m not a very good dancer,” Ash said sheepishly. “It’s ok, I’m not a very good dancer either,” Misty laughed. The couple danced through the first song and through several others. “Would you look at that Gary?” asked Brock. “Yep. From day one, those guys were meant for each other. You could see it in the way they fought and looked after each other. I was always jealous I hadn’t found a friend like Misty when I traveled.” “Well all those years of being frustrated because they would hide their feelings are gone now. There’s no turning back to the way things used to be,” Brock said. “Jesse, James, come look at this! They really are luvboids!” said Meowth. “What is it Meowth? It better be important. I’m tired and hungry,” complained Jesse. “Well you two’s is in luck den’ cuz der’s a buffet too.” “Where?” asked James with delight. “I’m sure those twerps wouldn’t mind if we crashed their love fest,” said Jesse. “All right, but let’s get in there, eat, and get out. My heart is telling me not to disturb them tonight,” said James. “Fine,” huffed Jesse. Part 6 The music ended and Ash looked at Misty. “Would you like to go for a walk?” Ash asked, looking into her eyes. “I would like that,” she said. They walked out the doors and into the garden. “Misty, I have to tell you something.” Misty’s stomach flipped with butterflies. Omg, is he going to tell me we should just be friends? Was one of the millions of thoughts that were racing through Misty’s head. Ash moved closer. “I-I can’t say it. Promise me you won’t laugh?” “Ash, you can trust me with anything. I’m your best friend.” “Right, I just…Instead of saying what I want to say, I’ll just do it.” Before Misty had a chance to register the words in her mind, Ash’s lips were pressed up to hers. At first, she was shocked and was still. Then, as the realization of what was happening sunk in, she started kissing him back. Ash pulled away, and whispered “I love you,” into her ear. Epilogue “Ah, I just love the sun, don’t you Misty?” “Yep, getting tan just laying here. The St. Anne is much nicer than when it sank. It’s awesome,” said Misty. “And with all of our Pokémon at the day care, life is worry free,” said Ash. “Perfect day, perfect ship, perfect girl,” Ash mumbled as he fell asleep.
