Me: Hi. *belch* Oh, sorry. Keera: *buuuuuuuuuurrrrrrp* (big smile) Me: Eew, gross! Keera! (Stern glare) Keera: (whimper) Me: Ok, I forgive you. But next time I don’t want to see or hear you doing that, ok? Keera: Ee! Me: Good. Thank you, Nurse Joy! Nurse Joy: You’re welcome. Me: Goodbye! I’m going to buy a few Pokeballs to catch Pokemon. Now we’re setting off to Pewter City for my first gym battle. Viridian City has its own gym, but the gym leader is too advanced for me. Besides, I have to get 7 badges before I can battle him. Gyms are places where traveling trainers can battle their Pokemon against the gym leader. Lots of gyms have puzzles and apprentice trainers that you have to get through before you can battle the leader. The more advanced the gym leader, the more advanced trainers and puzzles. I hope we can get to Pewter as quickly as we got to Viridian. Caterpie: Cater, pi. Cater, pi. (Notices us) Pi? Me: All right! Good thing I got those Pokeballs earlier. I’d like to get a Caterpie. (Throws Keera’s Pokeball) Go, Keera! Keera: (pops out of ball) Ee! Vee! Me: Keera, use Tackle! Keera: Vee! (Body thuds into Caterpie’s) Caterpie: Ca! (Lies on the ground, starts struggling to get up and uses String Shot at Keera) Me: Keera, dodge it! Keera: (dodges shots) Ee, vee, ee! Me: Good, now give it another Tackle! Keera: Vee! Caterpie: Pi! Me: (throws Pokeball) Go, Pokeball! The Pokeball’s light is flashing on and off as the Caterpie inside is struggling to escape. Finally, the light has faded. Whew, I thought the Caterpie was going to get out. Wait a minute, the light has faded . . . that means. . . Me: I caught a Caterpie! Keera: Ee! (Biiig grin) Me: Yeah! My first caught Pokemon! Let’s see how well our new teammate is doing. (Throws Caterpie’s Pokeball into air) Go, Caterpie! Caterpie: Pi! Piiiii, piiii. (Rubs up against my leg) Me: Hey Caterpie, I guess you like me already. Well, that’s good. Keera: (grumpy look) Vee. Me: Oh, I like you too. Don’t worry that I’ll like Caterpie more than you. Keera: Ee! (runs over to me and Caterpie and motions to my pack) Vee! (Starts nudging my pack) Me: Oh, you want to eat now? I guess you’re hungry from that battle. We’ll have a light snack, and then we’ll set off again. Caterpie, if you’re too tired from that battle, you can rest in your Pokeball if you want to. Keera, if you feel like getting some fresh air, you can walk alongside me. Caterpie: Cater. Pi. Me: Caterpie, return! (Caterpie returns to Pokeball.) Ok, let’s go Keera. Stay tuned for more of this exciting saga!
