I didn’t have time to re-read the whole thing because I’m working on another fanfic “I'm home!” I called wearily as I thundered inside. I threw my bag on the couch after my horrible first day of high school. I flopped onto the couch, reviewing all the friends I’d made that day. Actually, from other people’s point of view, you wouldn’t call them friends. I made an especially large friend who didn’t like my blue shirt so he took it & hung it as a flag. After gym, I took a nice shower---in the toilet, courtesy of the seniors. After school, on my way home, I had a brief chat with the neighborhood thugs, a chat that was made up of fists & blood. So basically my first week stunk, I had no friends (except for George, the ten year-old next door who swears he could beat the crap out of me but still tries to befriend me) & nothing to do except unpack. I opened up a nearby carton & picked up a photo album. I turned to the first page & read “Dino’s 12th Birthday August 14th, 2006”. I saw a picture of two twelve-year old boys (me being one of them) with their arms around each other, smiling with icing covered faces. “Dino?” my mom called from the kitchen, “Could you hook up the new microwave & fix the time adjustments while I'm over at Grandma's house?” “Sure thing mom,” I called back, biting into an Oreo cookie as I leafed through the album some more, looking at memories I’d shared from my life in New Jersey. I was still discovering that California is nothing like New Jersey, (mainly because of all the bullies around the school), & discovering that hurt--literally. “I have to go now, but I’ll be back in a few hours. There’s some lasagna in the fridge & some jello for dessert. Love you sweetheart.” “’Bye, mom. See you later.” She smoothed her auburn hair into a long ponytail. I bit my lip & ran a hand through my own jet-black hair, wondering what color my father’s hair was. I wished I could remember him, but he walked off a few days after I was born. She grabbed her purse & keys, whisked away in her black Mercedes, speeding towards the next city, Sunrise. As soon as she was out of sight, I sighed because I was already lonely, finished my Oreos & went outside to challenge George & a few others to a basketball game. “Ooof!” some kid on the other team rammed me with his shoulder & sent me sprawling. I doubled up, clutching my stomach in pain. The game was incredibly intense. Both teams were playing hard & the score was tied with about 2 minutes left. The opposing team chucked the ball to another teammate. I quickly recovered from my moment of pain & leapt into the air & intercepted the ball. I lobbed the ball to George who was down the court. He sped past with the ball to the basket & was blocked by a person on the other team. George pivoted frantically, keeping the ball out of reach, trying to find someone to pass to. “Pass it here!” It was the last few seconds of the game & I blew past the kid that was guarding me. George heaved it to me. I dribbled the ball between my legs to get past the lanky kid before me. I pivoted & drove forward to the basket. “Five, four, three,” the younger spectators chanted the last seconds of the game. The score was tied, 56 to 56. I did some quickstep fancy footwork to get past the defense & went for a three point shot. “Two—ONE!” the chanters screeched as I sent the ball flying through the air. Swish! The ball went cleanly into the basket. I was tackled immediately & lifted onto my teammates’ shoulders, shouting & cheering along with the crowd. Now if only California could be like this all the time, I thought happily as I was clapped on the back & smothered by my teammates. A few hours later, after our little victory bash, I went in to finish up homework that I’ve been procrastinating for so long when the phone rang. “Hello?” I spoke into the phone. “Hi honey, it's me. I'm going to have to stay at Grandma’s house for a couple weeks to take care of her sprained her ankle. She won’t be able to move around for a while until she gets her crutches in a few weeks. Should I call your aunt to stay with you?” “As if mom. I'm already 14. I can take care of myself.” “All right then,” my mom said, sounding very unsure. “Don’t forget there are pre-cooked pizzas in the freezer for dinner, & leftovers enough for 2 weeks & there’s enough food around the house for lunch at school & breakfast. If you want to buy ice cream or a bag of chips at school, you have to use your allowance money. Don’t raid the fridge! I’ll send your aunt over to check on you if you’re feeling lonely or just need someone around. Keep all the doors locked when you’re home alone & stay at a friend’s house during the day so I won’t have to worry about you then. Do not throw any parties while I’m gone. Don’t forget to get yourself to school on time & no tattoos or body piercing. No playing hooky! I’m going to call school everyday to find out if you’re in school or not.” She paused finally for a breath. “Yes, mom.” “Bye honey! See you in 2 weeks!” “’Bye mom.” Yes! I thought, placing the phone in its receiver, 2 glorious weeks of no rules or parents. I ate ice cream while watching movies on my brand new DVD I just received for my birthday, & reluctantly did my homework. As soon as I opened up my history book & saw about a thousand chapters I had to read & write about, I decided that now was great time a to hook up the microwave as Mom had asked. I leafed through the microwave booklet & read: “Step 1: Plug in microwave.” I picked up the plug & shoved it into the socket. BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT! An electrical charge surged through my hand & spread throughout my body. “AAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!” I yelled in both pain & confusion. Finally the electricity stopped & I fell to the wood floor, on all fours, breathing hard. Wait a second. Wood floor? I lifted up my head. I looked around. I was inside some kind of time capsule looking thing with all these gadgets, buttons, levers, & gismos. A mouse-like yellowish creature with red cheeks, lustrous yellow fur, pointy ears, & a brown striped back glared at me. "Pika. PIKACHUUUU!" it yelled, sparks flying from its cheek, gesturing at its tail, which was badly bent. “Did I step on your tail?” I wondered aloud to myself. The creature nodded. Where am I? I thought frantically. And how does this thing talk & understand me? “Are you okay?” My head spun around. A girl about my age with piercing blue eyes and long brown hair that hung past her shoulders & a freckled tan face stood before me in the doorway of the time capsule. She was wearing a red cut-off sleeved shirt, tight denim pedal pushers & a pair of pearly white Skechers. “I’m fine. But what is that thing? Where am I? Who are you?” “That was Pikachu here & we’re in Pallet Town, Kanto & who are you?” the girl asked with a look of impatience on her face. “I’m Dino Valderrosa, but what’s a Pikachu & where’s Kanto?” “Pikachu’s an electric Pokèmon, & Kanto is...here. Are you OK? How did you get here?” the girl sternly asked. “The last thing I remember was plugging in a microwave & then getting shocked & then I ended up here,” I said. “Come inside & I'll give you an ice pack...” the girl helped me up. “You have a horrible bruise on your head. You must’ve got hit really hard.” I began to feel a little woozy. As I walked into the living room, I swayed & crumpled to the couch. “Here. Drink this. It will make you feel a little better,” the girl said fiercely. I obviously couldn’t refuse so I took the steaming mug of hot chocolate & ice pack. “Can you please tell me about this world of yours & why do these animal-looking-things talk?” I questioned, placing the mug down. The girl found a blanket & a pillow. “You’re joking—right?” the girl laughed, shaking her head, making her copper hair swish in the air, her eyes light up. There was something about her laugh & the way her eyes lit up that made me smile & find her irresistible at that moment. C’mon, Dino. You just met the girl. There’s no way she’s gonna fall for you, especially since I’m probably not gonna be here for a while. “Why would I joke about these freaky looking creatures that say words that aren’t even English?” I demanded, sitting up. The girl seized my shoulders & forced me down. “Lie down & I’ll tell you about.” The girl stroked my forehead & then placed the ice pack on it. Her touch was soft; it sent shivers down my spine. Face it. You fell for the girl—hard. Tallie (short for Natalie), the girl who found me inside the time machine her brother was working on, told me all about the world of Pokèmon & their abilities. I also learned about Pokèballs & Pokèdex’s & other stuff like battles, the Pokèmon League, Johto League, Pokèmon centers & Pokèmon’s evolutions. “Okay that’s a lot to learn,” I breathed. “But I can handle it after all I am Super Dino!” I leapt of the couch, in an attempt to look brave & heroic. I stumbled & fell flat on my butt. Tallie laughed histerically. “Oh yeah, you’re a real Superman,” Tallie rolled her eyes. “Um, you could be Wonder Woman if you named all 255 Pokèmon for me,” I grinned placing my arm around her shoulders. “I think you should be Super-flirt instead of Superman,” Tallie returned the grin, pushing my arm playfully off her shoulders. “What can I say? I have the family charm,” I said slyly, sitting down next to her. “Anyways, here are the 255 Pokèmon: Chikorita, Bayleef, Meganium, Cyndaquil, Quilava, Typhlosion, Totodile, Croconaw, Feraligatr, Pidgey, Pidgeotto, Pidgeot, Spearow, Fearow, HootHoot, Noctowl, Rattata, Raticate, Sentret, Furret, Pichu, Pikachu, Raichu, Caterpie, Metapod, Butterfree, Weedle, Kakuna, Beedrill, Ledyba, Ledian, Spinarak, Ariados, Geodude, Graveler, Golem, Zubat, Golbat, Crobat, Cleffa, Clefairy, Clefable, Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff, Togepi, Togetic, Sandshrew, Sandslash, Ekans, Arbok, Dunsparce, Mareep, Flaaffy, Ampharos, Wooper, Quagsire, Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Unown, Onix, Steelix, Bellsprout, Weepinbell, Victreebel, Hoppip, Skiploom, Jumpluff, Paras, Parasect, Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, Politoed, Magikarp, Gyarados, Goldeen, Seaking, Slowpoke, Slowbro, Slowking, Oddish, Gloom, Vileplume, Bellossom, Drowzee, Hypno, Abra, Kadabra, Alakazam, Ditto, Pineco, Forretress, Nidoran female, Nidorina, Nidoqueen, Nidoran male, Nidorino, Nidoking, Yanma, Sunkern, Sunflora, Exeggcute, Exeggutor, Sudowoodo, Wobbuffet, Venonat, Venomoth, Scyther, Scizor, Pinsir, Heracross, Koffing, Weezing, Grimer, Muk, Magnemite, Magneton, Voltorb, Electrode, Aipom, Snubbull, Granbull, Vulpix, Ninetales, Growlithe, Arcanine, Stantler, Marill, Azumarill, Diglett, Dugtrio, Mankey, Primeape, Meowth, Persian, Psyduck, Golduck, Machop, Machoke, Machamp, Tyrogue, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Hitmontop, Girafarig, Olé, Tauros, Miltank, Magby, Magmar, Smoochum, Jynx, Elekid, Electabuzz, Mr. Mime, Mrs. Mime, Smeargle, Farfetch’d, Natu, Xatu, Qwilfish, Tentacool, Tentacruel, Krabby, Kingler, Shuckle, Starwee, Staryu, Starmie, Shellder, Cloyster, Corsola, Remoraid, Octillery, Chinchou, Lanturn, Seel, Dewgong, Lickitung, Tangela, Eevee, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Horsea, Seadra, Kingdra, Gligar, Delibird, Swinub, Piloswine, Teddiursa, Ursaring, Phanpy, Donphan, Mantine, Skarmory, Doduo, Dodrio, Ponyta, Rapidash, Cubone, Marowak, Rhyhorn, Rhydon, Murkrow, Houndour, Houndoom, Slugma, Magcargo, Sneasel, Porygon, Porygon2, Chansey, Blissey, Lapras, Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, Kabutops, Aerodactyl, Snorlax, Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur, Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard, Squirtle, Wartortle, Blastoise, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Dratini, Dragonair, Dragonite, Larvitar, Pupitar, Tyranitar, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Mewtwo, MechaMewtwo, Mew and Celebi.” She jabbered, out of breath as she finished. “Uh…sorry but I lost track after Beedrill,” I said uncertainly. “Could you say that over again?” “Oh no…” Tallie heaved an extremely loud sigh & chucked a pillow at my head before falling over onto the couch. After another ten or twenty minutes, I knew pretty much all there was to know about Pokémon in general. Although Tallie told me nothing about any individual Pokémon, I did learn about all the basics, and, of course, the famous Professor Oak and his findings. We talked a little more. “Where do you live when you’re not with Tracey?” I asked Tallie. “All the way in Cerulean City with my parents.” She looked at the window. “It’s a kind of an industrious town.” “Cool. Maybe we could visit before I leave. My mom’s away for 2 weeks so she won’t even know I was gone.” “I really miss Cerulean City. I don’t have any friends here yet.” “Correction. I’m your friend.” “I mean friends who don’t have to get back to another dimension before their mothers get back.” “It’ll be all right.” I reached over, & hugged Tallie for reassurance, since she looked as if she was about to start bawling her eyes out. “Tallie, I don’t think I should send you back to mom with a boyfriend. Besides, I think you may be a little bit too young.” In the doorway stood a tall, lanky, blonde hair, blue-eyed guy of about 24. We broke apart quickly, Tallie’s face turning maroon. “Boyfriend? Tracey, we just met,” Tallie quietly responded back to her older brother, staring at the wood floor. She seemed to be choosing her words carefully. “The only reason why Dino is even here is because your stupid time machine somehow shocked him from his dimension into ours. He seemed lost so I decided to--” “My time machine is not stupid. If I can get out the bugs, it can actually go back in time to see if either a natural disaster or a disease killed out thousands of ancient tribes. We may even be able to see when the first Pokèmon inhabited the Earth. We may even be able to stop Team Rocket before they even become powerful,” Tracey interrupted, smirking. “Whatever.” Tallie sighed & rolled her ocean blue eyes, her arms folded across her chest. Tracey set his pure blue eyes on me, sizing me up. “So, Dino. You seem to be a great guy and all, not at all like most of the creeps that Tallie’s met. But I really think you guys are way too young to date.” I raised my eyebrows thinking of where this conversation would go next. “What do you--,” I started, dazed & confused, but I was cut off by Tracey, who shifted his gaze on Tallie. “Whatever you do, Tallie, do not take Dino back with you to Cerulean City. Mom will go ballistic on me for not totally dismissing the idea.” He sighed shaking his head. “I can hear it now…Dino cowering in the corner while mom goes on, ‘You are not good enough for my little sugar puff. She’s too young to hang around garbage like you. Now, t Silver sounds like a trustful young man. At least he could provide everything for my little bunny. You better hang around your own riff-raff kind & keep away from Tallie. Blah blah blah blah blah blah’,” Tracey went on & on with a high pitched voice, imitating his mother. He made sure to keep glancing over at Tallie, just to annoy her. Tallie’s face went from embarrassed, to fuming, to pure vengeance. He started to double up uncontrollably, as if he were being tickled all over. Tracey thudded onto the floor, guffawing so hard that his face turned purple. “I am so not related to him.” Tallie stared at her brother with disbelief & anger written all over her face. “Are you sure he’s 24?” I whispered back, Tracey still whooping with laughter. “Yeah, but mom said that dad dropped him about 3 times after he was born, but we don’t talk about that much because mom doesn’t like to admit that a person in our family isn’t normal.” Tracey finally straightened up, hearing that statement, probably thinking of another thing to say to get back at Tallie. “You never answered my question.” Tracey ran a hand through his hair & dusted off his clothes as he turned to me. His face was returning to its pale color. “Isn’t my little sister the cutest thing you ever wanted to date?” Tracey beamed at his sister, with his face tauntingly ridiculing Tallie. Tallie’s face turned ruby, looking as if she wanted to either crawl underneath the table, or strangle her brother until there was no tomorrow. “Aww…she’s blushing. How cute she is when she blushes!” Tracey pointed & oohed & ahhed at Tallie. Even I had to admit she did look kind of cute when she went red in the face. “I…umm…I guess so, but we aren’t exactly a couple or anything. I mean, I’m still lost & I don’t know much about this world. We just met and basically & I don’t think I’ll be staying here long enough to date. I mean, you can fix it in a few hours, right? ” I glanced over at Tallie (who seemed less red but crest-fallen), my face slightly flushed at Tracey’s questions. “Of course. I just have to adjust the time module & reopen the porthole &--” “How about we go to over to Professor Oak’s place for a visit? I just called & told him we’d be over there soon. Who knows? Maybe he’ll give you a Pokèmon.” Tallie interrupted Tracey. She stood up & rubbed her hands briskly together, glaring at her brother, who was still wearing a smug look of satisfaction on his face. He kept stifling laughter, & snorting from the effort. Tallie glared at him. “Why don’t you fix the time machine so Dino can get back home instead of teasing me?” Tallie exploded all of the embarrassment, anger, & vengeance mixing all together & bursting out in that one statement. Tracey took a step back probably surprised that something so small (even though Tallie wasn’t so small) could be so loud. Tallie took that opportunity & jumped on Tracey, beating & scratching him. “Hey! Ouch, cut it out Tallie!” Tracey yelled, curling up into a ball in an act of defense. “Not until you apologize for being so stupid!” Tallie frenzied, not giving up. Tracey seized Tallie around the waist & thrust her off with all the strength he could muster. Tallie went soaring, & toppled on top of me. She scrambled up & lunged once more at Tracey. Tracey leapt out of the way, leaving Tallie to hit the floor. While she was still on the floor, she grabbed Tracey’s ankle, making him tumble to the ground. She sunk her teeth into the fleshy part of his ankle. “OOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!” Tracey howled in pain, trying to pull his ankle away from her teeth. He used his other leg to kick Tallie in the side. She let go, screeching. Tracey climbed to his feet. Tallie then jumped onto his back & pulled his hair. Tracey lost his balance & fell, face first. She started banging his head on the floor, sitting on his back. “Tal--lie--I’m--los--ing--con--scious--ness!” Tracey said in between bangs. “You deserve it! If you weren’t such an egotistical, selfish, stupid, ugly--AGGH!” Tallie screamed as Tracey flipped her over so that she was flat on her back. Now he was sitting on Tallie’s legs, her arms & legs pinned. “Does itty bitty sister need a time out?” He said threatingly. “NO, but you need a breath mint!” Tallie spat in his face, struggling against Tracey’s vice grip, kicking. “Ohhh...you are so DEAD!” He narrowed his eyes & started throwing punches into Tallie’s stomach. Tallie cried out in agony, squirming about. She finally freed one leg & kicked Tracey in a spot that guys hate to have kicked. Tracey froze & then recoiled into a ball, gasping for air. Tallie shoved him off her legs & stood up. “Get up & fight like a man!” Tallie took great pleasure in saying. “That...was...a cheap...kick...” Tracey said in between gulps of air. “No man...could get up &...fight after...being kicked there...” “In that case, get up & fight like a woman!” Tracey clambered to his feet. He struck quickly & in a few seconds, he had Tallie in a full headlock. “How do you like that?” he queried as he painfully tightened his grip. “Tracey you’re CHOKING ME!” Tallie tried to pry Tracey’s arm from her neck. “Come on, sis! Fight like a woman!” he taunted. Tallie dug her fingernails far into his skin. Tracey yelped & shoved Tallie harshly to the floor. Tallie bounced back up. “You are such a friggin BASTARD!” “I wonder if Mom knows about your new vocabulary…maybe I should give her a call…” He reached for the phone. “Don’t you dare!” Tallie dove into a flying tackle & got Tracey around the waist. He collapsed to the ground, Tallie now in an unstoppable rage, kicking, yelling, beating, punching. “GET OFF, YOU LITTLE--,” Tracey was cut off as Tallie punched him, square in the face. Tallie stood up, breathing hard, sweating. “Guys! Come on, there’s nothing to be so mad about!” I stepped in, trying to stop the fight. I restrained Tallie by grabbing the back of her shirt before she lashed out at Tracey again. Tallie brushed out hair from her eyes, her face an intense red from fighting & anger. “Dino! Let go! This is between me--and--my--brother,” Tallie said in effort to break loose. I dug my feet into the carpet & adjusted my grip from her shirt to her shoulders. Tracey brushed off his clothes, inspecting his wounds carefully. “Thanks for reminding me that I should go back to working out at the gym,” Tracey grumbled. “How about we settle this over a Pokèmon battle?” Tracey reached into his pocket & pulled out a Pokèball. “You’re on!” After yanking her shoulders out of my clutch, Tallie reached into her own pocket & pulled out a red & white ball. They walked out into the back yard. “Jumpluff! GO!” Tracey released his Pokèball. A weird blue puff with cotton sticking out on these blue stalks that protruded from its head jumped out from its ball. “Chikorita, I choose you!” Tallie pitched the Pokèball & a green thing with a leaf on its head popped out. “Let’s start big! Solar Beam attack,” Tallie instructed it. Chikorita started to absorb sunlight through its leaf. “Jumpluff! Tackle it while its getting energy,” Tracey shouted. “Jump—LUFF!” Jumpluff aimed a mighty tackle at Chikorita. Chikorita went sprawling & hit the ground hard. “Unleash!” Tallie screamed, breathing hard. “Chiiiii---KA!” An amazing beam of light shot out from Chikorita’s leaf & hit Jumpluff. Jumpluff struggled & got up. It was fading, fast. “Chikorita! Hit it with a tackle attack.” Jumpluff went airborne & hit the ground with a sickening lurch. “Jumpluff, try a Sweet Scent!” Jumpluff produced a floating mass of powder that glided towards Chikorita. “Quick jump!” Chikorita soared over the cloud with ease. “Finish it off with a Vine Whip, Chikorita!” “Luff…JUMP!” Jumpluff cried out in pain, as it was beat by Chikorita’s vines. “Get up Jumpluff!” Tracey’s eyes widened in horror as it went limp. “Show it a real Sweet Scent!” Chikorita secreted the same powder at Jumpluff, who breathed it in & swayed back & forth, looking drunk. “Ok. One more Solar beam should do it…NOW!” “Jumpluff, Synthesis!” Jumpluff awakened, its HP being restored. “Hurry, Chikorita! It’s getting its HP back!” Tallie didn’t look so cocky anymore as Jumpluff stood up. “Jumpluff!Dodge it!” Jumpluff jumped, narrowingly missing the beam of sunlight. “Chikorita! Razor leaf!” Razor sharp leaves attacked Jumpluff. “Counter with a Vine whip, Jumpluff!” Jumpluff battedthe leaves away with vines that came from its body. “Chikorita, Sweet Scent!” “Dodge it!” “C’mon, Chikorita...Hey! Trip Jumpluff with a vine whip!” “Look out!” But it was too late. Jumpluff had been moving so fast it didn’t see the vine sitting there to trip it. It tumbled head over heals, rolling uncontrolably. “Finish it off, Chikorita! Mega Drain!” “ Put it to sleep with Sleep powder attack.” Jumpluff emitted a sweet smelling powder. Chikorita breathed it in as it charged forth & fell asleep, unable to finish its Mega Drain. “Jumpluff, return.” Tracey called Jumpluff back to its Pokèball. “Chikorita. You put up a good fight. Return.” Tallie returned Chikorita back to its ball. “Never try to one up the one up master,” Tracey laughed. “Cheap trick,” Tallie muttered. “Cheap, but authorized by the Pokèmon League.” Tracey gloated. “I’m out of here. See you,” Tallie told Tracey. “Be back by dinner or I’m calling police,” Tracey called after her retreating back, me at her heels. We left the house, with Tracey’s laugh of victory ringing in our ears. We walked in silence until I noticed that Tallie’s eyes were looking at me up & down. “Is there something wrong?” I asked, looking at my appearance. I flattened my jet-black hair. What’s she looking at? I wondered, determined to figure out was wrong with me. “Nothing’s wrong,” Tallie started, as if she were trying to find the right words. “You’re perfect! I mean you have the perfect build for being a Pokèmon trainer.” She squared my shoulders & turned me so that I was facing her. Tallie continued muttering to herself. “Yeah,” I said slowly, wondering what the point of this conversation was. “I’ve never seen anyone with such nice hazel eyes before,” Tallie mysteriously whispered to herself. “I uhh---well, ummm…oooooookay,” I stuttered, trying to think of something to say in response to her comment. We stared into each other’s eyes for a long moment, as if we were lost inside them. She stood so close to me, so close that I could smell what kind of shampoo she used. Herbal Essence, I thought, or maybe finesse. Suddenly, I felt my lips reaching for hers. I placed my hands on her waist. She started to wrap her arms around my neck but then backed away suddenly, looking slightly embarrassed & surprised. I felt my ears go hot, & my face turn red. I felt sick to my stomach & very, very stupid. I told you, she wouldn’t fall for you, a voice was chiding in my head. “As I was saying,” she started up the conversation again & continued walking. “Professor Oak will give you a Pokèmon and you’ll be able to catch Pokèmon & battle & stuff,” Tallie said as we walked up the long path that led to a large, vast mansion sized laboratory & rang the doorbell. DING-DONG. “Ah, Tallie. I’ve been waiting to see you for a while. How’s Chikorita?” A frail old man with graying hair appeared in the open door. “Fine, thanks,” Tallie replied with a smile. “But I think it may need a check up after my last battle against my brother.” “Just bring it by anytime & I’ll fix it up.” The man paused for a second. “Tracey was always a fantastic trainer. I’m not surprised you lost to him. Best trainer I’ve seen in my days. Heh...Ahem.” He chuckled nervously as Tallie narrowed her eyes. “And who, may I ask, are you?” the man glanced at me, more disapprovingly than curiously. “I’m Dino Valderrosa, a friend of Tallie’s,” I introduced myself. He grasped my hand firmly & gave it a good shake that nearly broke my arm. “Nice to meet you. So you’re the one who Tallie claims to be worthy of becoming a trainer. At first I’d thought you were her latest crush.” The old man chuckled to himself once more, Tallie giving him a look of pure venom. “If you’d like a Pokèmon, come in,” Professor Oak quickly changed the subject. We followed Professor Oak, down the twisting, curving corridor that led to a vast room filled with Pokèballs on shelves with little labels on each of them. “Here is the last Pokèmon I’ve got. It’s one I just captured today. POKèBALL, GO!” Prof. Oak threw a red & white Pokèball that he took off a shelf. A materialized form came out. “Cynda. Cyndaquil.” The creature spoke uncertainly, looking around curiously, probably wondering where it was. “Cyndaquil,” it spoke happily, lighting a flame on its back & shot fire from its mouth. “Take it easy, Cyndaquil. Laboratory tools aren’t cheap.” Professor picked up a beaker & carefully examined it. He placed the beaker down gingerly & turned back to me. “There are 255 Pokemon you must capture in order to become a Pokèmon Master. This Pokèdex will help you identify them.” He handed me a little red electronic thing that opened up sort of like a locket. “When you see a Pokèmon, the Pokèdex will automatically record data on the Pokèmon. Here’s more Pokèballs, & a Pokèball belt to hold your Pokèballs. “Also, there are at least 20 total gyms in Kanto, Johto, & the Orange Islands combined. In Kanto, you have to visit each one & battle the gym leader for a badge. When you collect 8, you can finally visit the Pokemon League, where you battle against tons of different trainers to be claimed number one. Then you go to the Orange Islands, to battle the Orange Crew for 4 badges. As soon as you get these, you are allowed to visit the Orange League, where you battle the current Champion, 6 on 6. Then, on to the Johto League, where you will also collect 8 badges to be eligible to compete in the Johto League. The Johto League is a lot tougher than anything you’ve ever seen. It’s not a place for inexperienced trainers. You will have to use your knowledge from your journeys to come out on top. Tracey was the only one who came out on top in all three Leagues. A mighty fine boy he was, in fact, still is…” his voice trailed off as Tallie gave her penetrating stare again. “Anyway, Tallie will guide you on the rest of the details. Good Luck!” he called after us, as we walked back to Tallie’s house to begin my training. “Wait a second,” I paused as we were walking down Quagsire Circle. “How am I getting home?” “Good question,” Tallie muttered. “Tracey was working on a time machine. He was using some Pikachu to shock a time traveler into either the past or future. But you must’ve done something in your dimension to get shocked-- doing who knows what--& was brought here instead of Tracey shocking one of his specimens to the future or past. Tracey was sending his specimen to the future by electricity when at the same time you were electrocuted, making a porthole. Some chain reaction must’ve occurred to send you here to our dimension & Tracey’s specimen was sent to your dimension. I bet you Tracey’s Pikachu is probably in your house now. I hope he’s not ruining it or anything.” “All I was doing was hooking up a microwave, like my mom told me to,” I muttered weakly. “Whatever it was, it must’ve--AHHHHHHHHHH!” Tallie let out a piercing scream. THUD. “Tallie?” I scanned my right; Tallie had fallen into a hole & was clutching her right leg wincing in pain. “Are you all right?” I called. “Owww…no, I’m not. I think I sprained my ankle.” “I’m coming down to get you, okay?” “Hurry!” I found a vine & tied it to the tree stump in front of the hole & I climbed down to get Tallie. “Take my hand!” I reached my hand as far as possible without letting go of the vine. She reached for my hand, her fingers about to grasp my hands. “SNEEEEA---SEL!” Something whizzed by & cut the vine. “WHOAAAAA!!…OOOOF.” I fell on top of Tallie, my arm making a crunching sound as I fell on it. “Finally we got somebody. HAND OVER YOUR POKèMON & WE’LL LET YOU GO IN 1 PIECE!” cried a person with a black getup with a hat & a red “R” marked on front. “In your dreams! Cyndaquil, get us out of this mess! GO!” I gripped the Pokèball & let it fly. (Boy did it feel good to say that for the first time). “Chikorita, help!” Tallie released her Pokèmon to help, still on the ground & caressing her ankle gently. “You’re using that little cream puff to battle?” I hollered at Tallie in disbelief. “Cream puff! You’re lame Cyndaquil couldn’t light a flame even if it used a match!” Tallie retorted, her face turning red. I guess Tallie isn’t the little angel she seems to be, I thought. “Yeech. You don’t have to be so evil about it.” I struggled to my feet, thinking of a command to tell Cyndaquil. “You think I’m being evil?” Tallie raged on, almost as unstoppable as a raging Gyrados. “If I was evil, I wouldn’t have helped you at all after I found you in our time machine. I should’ve called the police instead of helping you out.” She scowled, with a look of utter disgust. “Would you please clam up? I’m still trying to think,” I glared at Tallie. “Must be hard since you don’t seem to think too often,” Tallie muttered, her arms crossed. But before I thought of an attack, the Rocket dork shouted, “Sneasel, Pineco, attack!” Sneasel swooped down & nearly sliced Cyndaquil & Chikorita into a bunch of bite sized carrot sticks. “Pineco, explosion!” A bone-shattering, earth-moving explosion rocked the area. Tallie, Cyndaquil, Chikorita & I were thrown out of the hole & onto the rocky, bumpy, dirt road. “Owww…was it just me, or did that hurt more than it needed to?” Tallie painfully sat up. “Say good-night kiddies. Pineco, one more explosion!” the Rocket dude laughed sinisterly. “Cyndaquil, Ember attack!” I yelled quickly, laboring to pull myself up to my feet. “Cynda…QUIL!” Cyndaquil opened its mouth & aimed a fiery ball of flames towards Pineco, & stopped it from exploding. Pineco dodged the attack, & aimed a tackle attack right at Chikorita, who was busy trying to Vine whip Sneasel. “Cyndaquil, aim & fire a perfect tackle attack at Pineco,” I instructed it. “Cyn-DA!” Cyndaquil aimed one powerful tackle at Pineco, striking hard. “Chikorita, razor leaf!” Chikorita unleashed dozens of razor sharp leaves at both Pineco & Sneasel, causing them to miss their attacks & fall over. “Cyndaquil, Ember them while they’re distracted!” Cyndaquil unleashed an even larger Ember attack than before, hitting Pineco, Sneasel, & the Team Rocket guy. The three ran off, with their rear ends covered in flames. “Good job, Cyndaquil!” I bent down & pet Cyndaquil who was shaking with happiness. “I’m glad that’s over,” Tallie breathed, putting weight gingerly on her injured ankle. “It’s a good thing that you had your Chikorita,” I told Tallie. “STOP RIGHT THERE!” We spun around to find more Team Rockets with Pokèmon. “TEAM ROCKET, ATTACK!” the leader bellowed to the mini-army of men & Pokèmon. There was a massive battle of which I couldn’t see since I was busy fighting some Ratatta & Koffing off my back. “Tallie! Cyndaquil, Chikorita, where are ya?” I called, punching & kicking away an occasional Ratatta & Koffing that lashed out at me. Cyndaquil was tackling some nearby Ekans & Nidoran. Chikorita was tripping & whipping Raticate & Voltorb. “Chikorita, hope you got enough rest. SOLAR BEAM!” Tallie cried still on the ground, defending herself from Spearow. I was blown away from the attack & found myself next to Cyndaquil on my back. There were many unconscious & dead Team Rocket Pokèmon scattered about. I groaned & sat up, rubbing my head. “You all right, Cyndaquil?” “Cyn—DA!” Cyndaquil responded, back on its feet. “Spearow? You okay, buddy?” “Ratatta! Talk to me, man!” “Ekans! Poor guy…” “What’s wrong, Voltorb?!” “It was her!” The leader of the group pointed at Tallie. They all turned to glare at her. “Hey, just because we’re kids, doesn’t mean we’re not skilled Trainers!” Tallie managed to look menacing while cowering on the ground. The leader walked up to Tallie, looking her over carefully. He tilted up her chin & gazed into her eyes. “Damn, she’s a hot one…” Tallie pulled her chin away, looking angrily at him. “Don’t touch me, asshole,” Tallie said quietly, voice full of menace. “A spunky one…I like that…hell, if we aren’t gonna have some fun tonight! How bout we just take this chick & beat up the kid & the Pokèmon?” There was a loud sound of applause & cheering from the group. The whistled & laughed like the dimwits they were. “C’mon, bitch, get in the truck. I’ll take ya home, sweetheart,” the leader Rocket moved to pick Tallie up. “YOU’RE NOT TAKING TALLIE!” I jumped to my feet & punched the guy who was touching Tallie. “I see…there’s a boyfriend involved…” Tallie & I looked at each other for a few seconds. “Boyfriend?” we both said in unison. “Eww, that’s just plain nauseating!” “How could you say such a thing! This is, rated PG-13, ya know!” The Rocket smirked. “Well, you can just say you’ve ‘broken up’ !” Simultaneous with his word, he threw a punch that rattled my teeth. “Cyndaquil, Smoke screen!” Cyndaquil blew out a huge mass of smoke. “C’mon Tallie, let’s split!” She hopped onto my back. “Cyndaquil, Chikorita, hurry up!” I called back to the Pokèmon. They quickly followed, coughing. “You can’t escape, from Team Rocket! Stop em with a self-destruct, Electrode!” A giant Pokèball looking Pokèmon rolled into battle & shattered the place with a single blow. I went into the air, up, up, up. Then back down, down, down. Then all went black. * * * “Huh?” I grunted as I woke up. I sat up, my entire body aching. “Where are we?” I whispered to Tallie who sat cross-legged next to me in the cage. “That Team Rocket army took our Pokèmon & threw them in a cage & drove off with them. The leader tried a number on me, well…let’s just say we don’t have to worry about him anymore.” She gave a tiny smile. Knowing Tallie, I didn’t even have to worry about her, since can take any guy out. “They threw us in a cage & brought us to their secret hideout. And here we are,” Tallie replied, sobbing quietly to herself. She looked up at me with her tear stained face. “I’m scared. I’ve heard bad stories about Team Rocket & what they do to kids like us…what if we never get back home?” “ZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZ…” A Pineco was sleeping over in the far corner of the cabin. “Hmmm… Hey! If we can just inch this cage over a bit, we can grab that sleeping Pineco & get it to blow up this entire place.” “Dino, aren’t we going to get hurt in the blast too?” “Not if we throw the Pineco away from us. Sure, we’ll be scratched up a bit, but the cage will break in the blast & so will the cabin.” We threw our weight to the side of the cage to make it move over to the Pineco. I stuck my skinny arms through the bars of the cage & carefully grabbed the dozing Pokèmon. “One…” I counted, “Two…THREE!” Sure enough, when the Pineco was airborne it automatically exploded to defend itself. The entire hut was engulfed in flames & we were soaring through the air. We landed with a horrific crash & the cage gave away. Tallie hit her head on the side of the cage as it broke, & became unconscious. “Tallie,” I whispered, inspecting the damage. I touched her forehead, which was covered in blood. “I have to get help, but how?” I muttered to myself. I did the only thing that came to mind: I heaved her onto my back & ran up the road ahead, as fast as I could with a 115 lb. girl on my back, to find a turned over truck with 2 cages in it. It must’ve got hit in the blast too, I thought. “What’s this?” I said as I threw out the unconscious driver (who happened to be the Team Rocket guy from before). In the passenger’s seat were two cages with whimpering Pokèmon inside. “Cyndaquil! Chikorita! Boy am I glad to see you guys!” I opened the cages containing Cyndaquil & Chikorita. “Can you two tackle the truck & turn it over?” They nodded & backed up 20 feet. They sprinted at full speed at the truck & hit it with perfect accuracy. I flung open the dented door & heaved Tallie into the back seat & took the wheel. “Hang on you guys. I’m not a very good driver, but I’ll get us home in 1 piece. I hope.” I started the engine & the truck lurched forward down the bumpy road. Cyndaquil & Chikorita winced as we went over curbs & hit mailboxes. BAM! KA-BOOM! An explosion hit the area, causing a mini earthquake for a few seconds. I carefully glanced at the rear-view mirror. The Team Rocket gang was still at large as they were following us as we drove towards Tallie’s place, throwing bombs at us. “Looks like we drove right into some trouble,” I grunted, trying to think of a plan. “Prepare for trouble!” A female Rocket member with flaming red hair & deep green eyes was in the pick up truck that was throwing bombs. “Make it double!” a stern looking Rocket guy with deep purple hair & a freckled face also popped up in the pick up truck. “To protect the world from devastation!” the girl raved on. “To unite all peoples from every nation!” the boy chorused. “To denounce the evils of truth & love!” “To extend our reach to the stars above!” “Jessie!” “James!” “Team Rocket blasts of at the speed of light!” “Surrender now or prepare to fight!” “ME-owth that’s right!” an odd-looking feline/cat thing came into view. “What are you talking about?” I hollered out the window. “We’re saying that we are going to destroy you!” the talking Meowth hopped on top of the truck. “Not if I can help it!” I called back. I spun the wheel as a bomb came flying just above us. The car lurched right just before the bomb hit the car. I frantically guided the car into the woods, where I hoped we would lose them. We ran over branches & logs, honking for the wild Pokèmon to get out of the way. A mountain came into view, making a dead end. The last bomb whistled through the air. I forced the gas pedal down, the tires screeching as they sped away. The bomb hit the mountain & caused an avalanche to crash down. “OH MY GOD!” I screamed as I floored the pedal, the engine whining as we picked up speed, trying to avoid the avalanche. I cursed repeatedly out of fear, heart pounding. It neared closer & closer, crashing everything in its path. “We’re dead!” a quiet moan came from my mouth. I slammed on the pedal with my foot. The car gave a final spurt of speed & we were out of there before boulders & dirt flattened us. I looked back in the mirror & saw that Team Rocket had been crushed. I almost turned back to help them, but changed my mind since Tallie needed medical care. I zigzagged through the forest to the main road & let out my held breath. After about 3 hours of searching for Tallie’s house, I finally reached Clefairy Court; the street Tallie’s house was on. I ran into a few mailboxes & clipped that silver Honda Accord, & then I ran into Tallie’s fence as I tried to park in the driveway. “Dino! Tallie! What happened?” Tracey looked up from working on the time machine, his blonde hair falling across his forehead & plastering itself to his head with sweat. I stumbled into the kitchen, Tallie on my back & the two Pokèmon at my side. “Tallie…need…help. Hospital…leg…cut up…Team Rocket. Explosion…captured. Cage…broke…unconscious...” I spoke in labored breaths; images swirling around like a super fast carousel. I closed my eyes & crumpled to the tiled floor in Tallie’s kitchen, with Tallie still in my arms, unconscious. * * * “Dino, can you hear me?” I awoke in a hospital bed. I sat bolt upright to find a young, female doctor with long blonde hair & watchful, calm green eyes standing next to my bed. “Cyndaquil? Tallie! Where are they they?” I sprung out of bed to the room adjacent from mine. “Well, Cyndaquil is at the Pokèmon Center downstairs with Chikorita, getting a treatment for their battle wounds. Tallie…she had a nasty accident. An open leg wound. No broken bones or sprains, just a huge cut that needs to be disinfected, and she doesn’t have any concussions. She’ll live.” The doctor smiled. “Tallie?” I whispered, holding the hand without the IV tube inside. Her eyes fluttered open. I let out my held breath. “Thank God you’re okay,” I muttered to myself. “I think the question is ‘Are you okay’,” she murmured back, pointing at my arm. I looked down. My arm was gushing with blood, my skin torn so a little muscle was peeking through, & a little bone showing. “Oh. Ouch.” I winced at the pain I was finally feeling in my arm, which was basically cut open. “Ahem.” The doctor cleared her throat. “ Sorry to interrupt such a romantic moment.” Tallie & I both turned as red as Santa’s velvet hat & coat. “Dino? Will you please let me clean your arm & put a bandage on it? You also have some head injuries & I’d like to see if they’re serious.” “Okay,” I said, finally starting to feel the fatigue I’ve been ignoring since the Team Rocket encounter, heading to my room across the hall. The next morning, the doctor fixed me up (concussion free!) & Tallie was able to come home with a bandage. Tracey later told me that Team Rocket had vandalized his machine while he brought Cyndaquil & me & Chikorita & Tallie to the hospital. I asked how long it would take for Tracey to fix it. “The way they screwed up my invention, it could take years, let alone 2 weeks,” he informed me. “Things from here can’t travel anywhere, but someone from another dimension can come here, only if they can somehow get a strong enough shock to get them to another dimension.” “Hmmm….” was all I said. As I was enjoying my Kanto chores one evening with Tallie, we both fed brushed, & milked the Miltank. We sat down on the flat boulder in Tallie’s back yard for a quick break, wiping our sweaty foreheads. KA-THUMP, KA- THUMP “Wh-what’s that noise?” Tallie said, her voice shaking as she spoke. KA-THUMP, KA-THUMP, KA-THUMP. We turned around to see about seventy Miltank rushing toward us. “Come on!” I pulled Tallie (who was frozen with fear) to her feet. We ran (actually stumbled) into the forest, the Miltank getting closer with each step. They gained on us, almost close enough for us to smell their putrid breath. We dodged tree branches, jumped over logs, & danced around boulders. We hid in a tree, hoping the Miltank would lose us. After we lost sight of the Miltank, we jumped down. “Well that was close,” Tallie breathed, her hands on her knees. “KA-THUMP, KA-THUMP!!” another stampede of wild Miltank were heading for us. “AAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!” Tallie let out an ear-piercing scream as even more wild Miltank came pouring into the forest. We raced in the opposite direction, trying to find a safe haven. I yanked Tallie out of the path of a Miltank that almost crushed her. I slipped my hand into hers & pulled her along as fast as I could. Finally we came to the river making a dead end. Think, think, I urged myself. Then it clicked. “The boulder!” I lunged & knocked Tallie, throwing her & myself behind the giant boulder just before the Miltank trampled us. The Miltank kept stampeding, still looking for us. “Thanks,” Tallie gasped, catching her breath, after all the Miltank had gone stomping past. “You don’t need to thank me. You would’ve done the same thing. We better get back & tell Tracey the Miltank nearly trampled the forest.” “You’re right. Let’s go.” We started back to Tallie’s place, climbing over logs & branches, to tell my mom & Tracey that the Miltank escaped. “Whoa!” Tallie’s foot got caught on a tree branch & fell forward, & knocked me over. We both went rolling & tumbling down the grassy, rocky hill in Tallie’s backyard. We rolled to the bottom of the hill. I sat up, groaning as I inspected my injured self. I rolled over to find Tallie still sitting in the dirt, staring at the full, bright moon. “What’s wrong, Tallie?” I placed a hand on her shoulder, kneeling on one knee. She faced me, her blue eyes shining with tears. “I was hoping---never mind.” Tallie turned away, to face the moonlight. “Hoping what?” “I was sort of wondering if you’d like to go see a movie or something next weekend,” she said quickly. Is she asking me out? I pondered, excitement flooding through me. “You mean like a date?” I barely let out a whisper. “I guess so.” She looked down at the ground, trying to hide a blush that was sweeping up her neck & up to her face. She looked up, fear of rejection printed on her face. So she is asking me out, I thought happily. “Of course!” The words flew out of my mouth before I could actually comprehend what she said. “Really?” “Absolutely. But right now, I’d like to do one more thing before we go tell Tracey about the Miltank.” I reached for her hand & pulled her close. “What are you doing?” Tallie tried to act hostile & huffy, but inside her eyes I could see she was frightened. “Something we were about to do before we went to see Professor Oak.” I wrapped my arms around her waist & felt her chest brush up against mine. I pressed my lips against hers, seeing fireworks go off in my mind. She threw her arms around my neck; her tongue slithered between my teeth & into my mouth. When we finally stopped for a breather, Tallie took my hand in hers; smiled at me, & instinctively I leaned in & kissed her once more, causing me to lose my breath all over again. We walked back to the house, hand in hand, fingers laced. “You know, I was actually afraid to like you,” Tallie made a small conversation as we headed back to the house. “Really?” “Yeah. I thought you were cute when I first saw you, but when I saw what trouble you put us through with Team Rocket, I thought having you around would be nothing but mayhem & pain.” “Did I really cause that much trouble?” I couldn’t help but feel hurt. “Yeah, but if you didn’t think fast, we would probably have to join Team Rocket.” “Ahem. The backyard isn’t exactly what I’d call a date. But hey, like I said before, you got to start somewhere.” We broke apart with scarlet faces to find Tracey grinning mischievously. “Why are you always hanging around?” Tallie spoke, furious with her brother. “I just came outside to call my favorite little sister & soon-to-be brother in law for dinner,” Tracey said with fake innocence. “Well, we’re not hungry now,” Tallie quickly said, & rested her head on my shoulder. “But just to let you know, the Miltank escaped & you have to go herd them back in.” “Whatever…see you inside.” Tracey sighed. “By the way, here’s a picture to commemorate the moment. It was a perfect Kodak moment.” He dropped a picture at my feet; the picture was of Tallie & I at the bottom of the hill as we kissed. He stuck out his tongue, & ran off in search of the lost Miltank. “Dino,” my mom scolded, “please remove your…what do you call it…umm…oh, yeah, Cyndaquil out of my bed, right this INSTANT!” It was about 8 months later. My mom had also tried to plug in the microwave when she came home after taking care of Grandma 8 months ago (after she screamed in fear because of Tracey’s Pikachu that were wandering through my house after they were sent here) & was brought here. Like son, like mother, she had to spend the 4 years in Kanto with Tallie, Tracey & me. I had come back for a visit from my Pokèmon journey. I had already earned 8 badges & had 6 Pokèmon (Cyndaquil, Pikachu, Totodile, Bulbasaur, Noctowl, & Eevee). “Yes mom,” I called back. “Come here, Cyndaquil.” I gathered Cyndaquil & took it into my room, & thought about how much of a crossover I’d made since I first plugged in the microwave. THE END ^-^ By the way, would you people mind sending me some ideas 4 another story? I’m havin a bad case of writers block… This is Mystic Author, signing off!
