The end of friendships

Notes: I don't own Pokemon. Nintendo and 4Kids do.

'...' Indicate thoughts except for when Misty is talking to Ash.

'How could I do this?' Ash thought as he ran to where the taxi had stopped for him. Taxi Driver: "Where to?" Ash: "The airport, and quickly." Taxi Driver: "Don't tell me how fast I have to go, I'll go as quickly as I want." Ash: grumbling "Fine." As the taxi pulled off he started to panic. 'What if I don't get there in time? What if she's gone? How did I let this happen? I shouldn't have yelled at her. She was only trying to be helpful. Misty please don't go yet. I have to apologize or I'll never forgive myself. If only I hadn't yelled at her like that. I have to tell her I'm sorry. Why didn't I keep my mouth shut instead of yelling at her?'

Misty stood in the queue at the check-in desk at the airport. 'How could he do something like that? I was just trying to help. I know we don't get along well but this is too much. This is the right thing to do. He clearly doesn't want me around. I can't believe this is happening. I thought he might just care for me but no, he hates me. I'm so stupid.'

Ash looked out the window. It had just started raining. The clouds outside gave everything a dark, miserable feel. The view looked like he felt. Terrible. Guilt welled up inside as well as fear. The thought of losing Misty like this was too much for the young trainer to bare. 'Why did I say those things? I didn't mean them. I don't understand where they came from."

Misty stood in the departure lounge looking out the window. The rain outside mirrored the tears she shed as she stood with her arms crossed. She wished she had Togepi to cheer her up but as Pokemon were not allowed to run loose on the plane Togepi was tucked up safely in her bag, sound asleep. She could feel her heart slowly breaking. It felt terrible. Everything around her seemed distant and cold. She wanted to get back to her sisters. They may have been horrible to her but she knew that they loved her really. She wanted to talk to them, they would be a great comfort. They had always been there for her when she needed them before she left. But right now she felt alone. Like no-one in the airport knew she was there.

Ash Ran in through the doors at the front of the airport. He looked up at the screen with the departure times on it. He had about 3 minutes to get to her. He ran up the stairs and through the main waiting area. The departure lounge seemed to grow further away with ever step. Pikachu ran along before him. He had to get toher. He just had to.

Misty walked over to the gate. The last call had just gone and se had to get on the plane. As she got to the gate she heard a distinctive cry of "Pi Pi Pi." She knew only one Pikachu that sounded like that. She turned to see Pikachu dart through the crowd toward her with Ash just behind. Misty: "Why are you here? You've already said enough." Ash: "Misty, please, I had to see you before you go went." Misty: "Why? You obviously don't want me around. You made that perfectly clear earlier. What was it you said? 'You're nothing but a nuisance, a pain in the neck that won't go away or get lost. All you ever do is yell at me or put me down. I don't know why I didn't just run off while you were asleep. My life would have been a lot happier without you to yell at me all the time or nagging me about that stupid bike. All we ever do is argue. You never give me a break!' Would you like me to continue?" Ash: "Misty look..." Misty: "No you look. There's a point at which friendships, even ones as argument filled as ours, can't take any more and end, and you went way past that point today. Some of the things you said were uncalled for. I didn't do anything to get yelled at like that but you didn't seem to care. So that's it Ash I'm leaving and there's nothing you can do or say that will make me change my..." She had to stop there. It got very hard to talk, what with Ash kissing her. Pikachu looked around at everyone else in the Departure lounge who were staring at Ash and Misty. He started to do a Thunder Shock attack to make them stop staring. The electricity never left his cheeks as everyone immediately got on with what they had been doing. When Ash finally pulled away they both stood quietly for a few seconds. Misty: "Ash, I..." Ash: "I know, I am so sorry for what I said and I hope you can forgive me." Misty: "I forgive you. How can I stay mad at you when I love you so much?" Ash: "I love you too. I didn't mean anything I said to you earlier. I just want you to know that." Misty: "I know that." Announcer: "Last call for passengers on flight CC786005 to Cerulean City. Could all remaining passengers please report to Gate 7 thank you." Misty: "That's my flight." Ash: "Don't go, please." Misty looked at the ticket in her hands. She sighed then ripped it in half. Misty: "Lets get out of here." Ash and Misty walked back to the Pokemon Center together knowing hat no matter what they will always be together.
