One week ago…

Yes!!! We finally arrived at Goldenrod City!

Ash, Misty and Brock cheered. After three days of being lost in the wilderness, they had finally found their way to the nearest big city.

"Well, I have to go get something in the nearest pokemon center," Ash said, "I’ll see you guys later."

As Ash ran off, Misty decided that maybe this was the best time to go shopping for that present for him. Misty had decided that she should give him something as congratulations for winning his latest badge. She had wanted to get him a pokemon, but all the towns before Goldenrod hadn’t had any place to buy pokemon from. Goldenrod City was the only place that sold pokemon anywhere in Johto. She knew that Ash was still lacking a good poison pokemon, so she thought that a poison type would be a good addition to Ash's pokemon group. She had found a lot of pros and cons for different ones, and had made up her mind to give him a Beedrill. She still hated bugs with a vengeance, but she had to put Ash first. She was doing a lot of that recently, trying to make Ash feel good without a lot of thought to herself. She knew she liked Ash, but didn't know exactly how deep the feeling ran or if it was mutual.

Come on, back to finding a Beedrill that Ash can raise.

Misty found a good Beedrill in the Pokemon'R'us down the street. It wasn't too high a level, but it did have a good variety of attacks. She paid the employee the money, and went to find a good gift wrap for Ash.

Ash was headed to the pokemon center to get a transfer of a gift from Professor Oak. He liked Misty, that was for sure. But did she like him? He hoped that after his latest badge, he could use the money to buy a good gift, but he didn't have quite enough for the necklace that Misty really liked. Professor Oak was transferring enough money to let Ash buy the jewelry, on the condition that Ash not buy anything that was unnecessary for the next few weeks, until Ash could pay Professor Oak the money back. Ash got the money, and went to find the necklace.

Brock wasn't doing much of anything, because he was mostly just begging Nurse Joy to go on a date with him.

The next day, Misty gave Ash the present of a pokeball. Ash ripped the wrapping paper apart, glad to be getting a new pokemon. When Ash revealed the pokeball, he pressed the button in the center to release the pokemon inside. When Ash let out a Beedrill, he thanked Misty and started to make the Beedrill feel like a part of the team.

"Hey, you!"

Ash spun around, seeing an old gentleman with a few pokeballs calling to him.

"Hey, you with the pokemon league hat! Let's have a battle, one on one."

"Alright, Beedrill, I choose you!" Ash shouted back.

"Go, Golbat!" The gantleman said, releasing a Golbat to do battle.

"Golbat, Supersonic!"

Golbat used Supersonic and confused Ash's Beedrill.

"No, Beedrill! Come on, you can do this, even if the Golbat has Supersonic. Beedrill, POISON STING!!"

Beedrill started to use Poison Sting, but was so confused that it started flying almost drunkenly. The Poison Sting hit something, but the Beedrill didn't see until a few seconds later that it had hit it's new trainer.

Misty shrieked as she saw Ash clutch the needle embedded in his shoulder. As Ash's eyes glazed over, he saw Misty running towards him, horrified at his injury.

6 days later, Ash was in the hospital, waiting for the next shipment of Beedrill anti-venom. Ash had already had almost the full amount of Beedrill venom someone can take without dying. He had already received several treatments, but the Beedrill in question had the finest venom in all of Goldenrod. Misty cried with the revelation that maybe Ash might not make it through this. She realized now that she loved Ash, and that she might not be able to tell him. She was sure that Ash at least liked her, because she had opened the present that fell out of his pocket when he was stung. The present was for her. She had seen in there the necklace that she had been so impressed with. She had cried a few tears of joy then, even though Ash was being loaded into an ambulance. Now she realized she might not be able to tell Ash that the feeling was at least mutual, if not stronger. She had been at his bedside every day, telling him all the things that had happened to them, and how she felt during each. She had just finished telling him about the way she felt during the sting that had almost killed him. She cried harder, knowing that nothing could bring Ash back except the anti-venom or luck. She was so overwhelmed with different emotions, she bent down, still crying, and kissed Ash lightly on the lips. Ash had woken up slowly during her story, and had heard most of what she had said. Ash was fully awake by the time Misty finished, but was pretending to sleep in case Misty decided that she would go back to hating him now that he was all right. When Misty kissed him, he thought for a fraction of a second, and came up with...

Oh well, in for a Growlithe, in for an Arcanine.

Much to Misty's surprise, Ash leaned up and responded to her kiss with one of his own. Misty realized that Ash loved her, and felt a surge of elation rush through her. Ash loved her! After the kiss was broken, they each leaned back a little to catch their breath.

"So, I guess this means the feelings mutual, huh?" Ash mumbled, still caught up in what had happened just a few seconds before.

"Yes, so just be quiet...." Misty whispered back, and kissed him again.

The End
