chapter 6 -

BUTTERFREE 
Butterfree had finally found his way out of Spiral Cave. The sun was bright, Butterfree 
looked around for a spot to hide before TR saw him. He saw a group of large bushes and 
flew over towards them. "Aaaahhhh!!!," screamed Misty, for Butterfree just flew right 
into her. 
Butterfree nearly died from fright as well. "Get away from me!" Misty said as she 
brushed Butterfree away from her. Yet Butterfree still stayed there. "Can't you go?" 
Misty asked annoyed. 
Misty looked through the bushes and gave out a laugh as she saw Prof. Oak starting to 
jump around and sing to make up an excuse for Misty screaming so TR wouldn't find her. 
Butterfree still stayed there and just put on a sad face. Misty turned around, "You're Ash's 
Butterfree aren't you?" asked Misty
. Butterfree nodded, "Sorry Butterfree I didn't realize, anyway, welcome back," replied 
Misty. 

BROCK 
Meanwhile Brock was still looking for Onix. As Brock went further and further into the 
cave water started to appear. Brock could hear water rushing; he started to run. He 
tripped over something hard and landed head first into knee-deep water. "Onix," Brock 
said. 
Brock tried to lift up Onix's head, no use; Onix was way too heavy for him. Brock looked 
around the cave, there was nothing to help him even lift Onix's head out of the water. 
Brock turned around and ran back out of Spiral Cave. Misty looked up and saw Brock 
running towards her, without Onix. Brock looked worried. "Brock what is wrong?" Misty 
asks. 
"I need your help, Onix is asleep, the water is rising and he is too heavy to lift up, c'mon," 
Brock replied in a hurry.
Misty got up, "Butterfree you come too." 
"Butterfree?" 
"Ash's Butterfree." 
"Oh, cool." 
Brock led the way as Misty and Butterfree followed. Misty and Brock ran through the 
cave, slowly the water was getting higher and higher. They finally reached Onix. "Well 
we should lift Onix's head first," said Brock. 
"I know, I'll go and get more rocks, then we can put them under Onix's head so the rocks 
can lift it up," Misty ran off before Brock could agree. 
"Cloyster go!" 
Cloyster came out of the pokeball. "Cloyster can you possibly aurora beam that large 
rock so it breaks?" asked Misty. 
Before Misty knew it Cloyster had used aurora beam to smash the large rock. "Thanks." 
Misty picked up most of the smaller rocks that had been broken off the big one. Misty 
met back up with Brock. "Ok, on the count of three we both lift Onix's head, and then I'll 
put the rocks under his head," said Brock, "1, 2, 3!" 
Brock and Misty lifted Onix's head; Brock quickly put the rocks under it. Soon they had 
totally lifted Onix's head out of the water. "Now what do we do?" Misty asked. 
"I have rope, we can use our ponytas to pull Onix out of the water." 
"Why couldn't of we done that before?" 
Brock shrugged. Brock got out the rope and the two also let their ponytas out as well. 
Misty tied up the ponytas while Brock tied up Onix. "Ok Ponyta and Ponyta, we need 
you two to just walk forward, while me and Brock pull ok?" 
The ponytas swished their heads in an 'ok' mode, "Thanks ponytas." 
Misty ran back to where Brock was, right at the end of Onix's tail. "Ok Ponytas start 
walking," shouted Misty. 
At first the ponytas struggled to get the huge mass going but they finally did it. Brock and 
Misty got totally wet though. Onix was saved. Brock sat next to Onix and dried it off, 
slowly Onix started to wake up. It could tell that this person next to him had saved his 
life. It knew that this person was its real trainer. Soon Onix came to realize that this 
person who saved his life was Brock. Brock hugged his rocky friend. Brock looked up at 
Misty, "Thanks." 
"That's ok," replied Misty. 
Brock and Onix got up, "We better get going." 
Misty and Brock got the ponytas back in the pokeballs and started finding their way back 
out of Spiral Cave. Butterfree and Onix followed. 

ASH 
Ash and Pikachu kept hugging, "Pikachu are you ok?" asked Ash. 
Pikachu nodded. "That's good." Ash stood up, "We should go back and find Brock and 
Misty." 
"Stop right there!" Ash turned around, it was TR. "Thanks for finding Pikachu for us, 
pass it here!" ordered Jessie. 
"No way!" Ash shouted back. 
"Pika pika!" Pikachu said angrily. 
"Go Charizard!" shouted Jessie. Charizard came out, "Go get that Pikachu!" 
Charizard came towards Ash and Pikachu, "Pikachu, Thundershock that Charizard!" 
"PIIIIKKKKAAA CHUUUUUUU!" Pikachu Thundershocked Charizard. 
Charizard looked at Pikachu and grinned an evil smile, "Pikkaaa." 
Ash looked at the Charizard in fear, "Pikachu! Run!" 
Pikachu and Ash ran as fast as they could. Ash spotted Misty, Brock and Onix just 
getting out of Spiral Cave, "Ash what's wrong?" Misty asks. 
"You'll see in a minute, lets just find somewhere to hide before TR gets us!" replied Ash. 
Ash picked up Pikachu, and got out Ponyta, the other two did the same. A shadow swept 
over Ash, Ash turned around, "Charizard!" 
"Butterfree, use sleep powder!" said Misty. 
Butterfree jumped out and flew up high. "Since when did you catch a Butterfree?" Ash 
asks, surprised. 
"Ash, don't you know? It is your Butterfree!" 
Ash looked at the Butterfree now using sleep powder on Charizard, tears came to Ash's 
eyes, "Butterfree... Your back??" 
Charizard landed on the ground with a big thud and started to snore. Pikachu jumped out 
of Ash's arms and went towards Charizard. Ash didn't notice that Pikachu had gone; he 
was still happy to see Butterfree. Butterfree came up to Ash and gave him a big hug. 
"Great to see you back Butterfree." 
"Umm.... Ash sorry to break your happy moment but TR are over there!" warned Misty. 
"Ok! Lets go!" Ash said in a hurry. 
Ash and friends galloped away on the ponytas. Pikachu was left behind. "Pika pi?" 
(Ash?) asked Pikachu. 
Pikachu looked at the Charizard; somehow he looked familiar. "Pikachu pika!" (It's Ash's 
Charizard!). 
Pikachu heard TR getting closer, and saw them too. Pikachu tried to pull Charizard away 
but it was too heavy. "PIKA PI!!!!" (Ash!) shouted out Pikachu. 
"Huh? Pikachu? Arghhh!" Ash finally noticed Pikachu wasn't there, "Brock, Misty, stay 
here I've got to go back and get Pikachu!" 
"But didn't you have Pikachu?" asked Brock. 
"No, gotta go!" replied Ash, "Ponyta, go as fast as you can!" 
Brock and Misty watched Ash disappear out of site. 
Pidgeot, just finishing the lap around Serentine Mountain with Squirtle spotted Pikachu 
and TR close by. He remembered how Ash wanted him before to get Pikachu. It landed 
in a tree and put Squirtle in it and zoomed down to Pikachu. Pikachu was looking around 
for Ash when Pidgeot came and landed right next to him. "Get on my back! said Pidgeot.
Pikachu agreed for he had nowhere else to go. Pidgeot took off with Pikachu on his back. 
As Pidgeot was flying he saw Ash riding Ponyta back to where Pikachu was. Pidgeot 
went down to Ash. "Pidgeot! Pikachu! Thankyou Pidgeot for getting Pikachu!" said Ash.
Pidgeot signalled for Ash to hop on his back too. "Ponyta Return." Ash sat on Pidgeot's 
back and Pidgeot flew away. 
Jessie ran up to Charizard asleep on the floor, "Oh great! They made Charizard fall 
asleep! Charizard, return." 
All the other members from TR caught up, "Everyone, get out your Ponytas and 
Rapidashs, they aren't that far away," Jessie said to them. 
They all got out their pokémon, "Follow me," Jessie ordered. 
Pidgeot landed on the grassy ground next to Misty and Brock. Ash jumped off holding 
Pikachu. Ash got out Ponyta again and hopped onto it. "Pikachu, go in your pokeball so I 
don't loose you again," said Ash.
"Pi," (ok) Pikachu replied as he returned into the pokeball.
"Butterfree, Pidgeot you two return too," Ash said. 
Butterfree and Pidgeot returned into their pokeballs. The three rode the ponytas till they 
came to a dead end. "Where can we go?" asked Misty. 
"Nowhere, you just stay here," replied James. 
"Not Team Rocket!" Ash, Misty and Brock sighed. 
"Ash, Brock, we are surrounded," said Misty. 
"To protect the world from devastation." 
"To unite all people within our nation." 
"To denounce the evils of truth and love." 
"To extend our reach to the stars above." 
"Jessie." 
"James." 
"Team Rocket blasts off in the speed of light." 
"Surrender now or prepare to fight!" 
There was a pause, Ash, Misty and Brock looked at them weird. Jessie jumped forward, 
"Meowth isn't here, he is now the top cat!" 
The three all looked at each other, "Oh," they all said. 
"Well let's battle!" shouted James. 
"Pidgeot, Butterfree, Pikachu, Eevee and Ponyta, GO!" shouted Ash. 
They all appeared in front of Ash. "Onix and Ponyta, GO!" shouted Brock, his pokémon 
appeared in front of him. 
"GO, Cloyster and Ponyta!" Misty shouted as well. 
"Huh?" Brock and Ash looked puzzled. 
"Shellder evolved," replied Misty to their puzzled faces. 
The two pokémon appeared in front of Misty. Psyduck came out too. "Psy psyduck?" 
(Misty?) Psyduck said.
"Psyduck! You heard me!" Misty said happily. 
Psyduck waddled up to Misty and smiled a cheeky smile. Misty hugged Psyduck. 
"Psyduck Return!" said Jessie, Psyduck didn't, "Why isn't it listening to us, it is meant 
to!?" 
"Don't worry about it Jessie," replied James. 
"Anyway, Arbok, Pidgeotto, Charizard, Bulbasaur, Geodude, Vulpix and Zubat GO!" 
shouted out Jessie. 
"GO, Weezing, Starmie, Staryu, Horsea and Goldeen!" James shouted as well. 
"Go..." "Leave this to us TR," said Jessie. 
"They're using our pokémon against us," said Brock. 
"Psyduck use Confusion!" Misty said, "Cloyster, you use aurora beam and Ponyta you 
use flamethrower!" 
"Misty! They have our pokémon!" shouted Ash. 
"I know! But this is the way we can only get them back!" Misty shouted back. 
Ponyta shot out flames, while Cloyster used aurora beam. Psyduck was running around in 
circles. "Ok, Pikachu, thunderbolt them! Pidgeot use razor wind! Butterfree and Eevee 
tackle them! And Ponyta use stomp!" Ash told his pokémon. 
"PIKAAA CHUUU!" Pikachu electrocuted some of the water pokémon. 
"Onix! Bind them! Ponyta use flamethrower too!" Brock shouted. 
Jessie and James just watched for their turn to hit back. 

SQUIRTLE 
Squirtle, still in the tree sat there. He could here a big pokémon battle or something going 
on. He lost his balance and fell out of the tree. Squirtle sat up and rubbed his head from 
the fall, and then he remembered, he was Ash's pokémon. PIKAA CHUU! Squirtle saw a 
large thunderbolt in the distance, "Pikachu!?" Squirtle jumped up and started running 
towards the thunderbolt he had seen. 
ASH 
"Weezing! Sludge attack!" Weezing made everything go black.
"Pidgeot gust the sludge away!" shouted Ash. 
"Pidgeot!!" Pidgeot flew high and started using gust. 
"Pidgeotto! Stop that Pidgeot!" shouted Jessie. 
"Pikachu! Thundershock Pidgeotto!" 
"Arbok! Bind Pikachu!" 
"Ponyta flamethrower that Arbok!" 
"Starmie! Watergun!" 
"Eevee tackle!" 
"Geodude! Rockthrow that Eevee!" 
"Butterfree SLEEP POWDER!!" 
After all the dust had landed on the ground Ash and Jessie and James finally saw what 
was happening. Pidgeot had gusted the sludge away, Pidgeotto was electrocuted by 
Pikachu, while Arbok had binded Pikachu, Ponyta had fried Arbok, Starmie had used 
Watergun on Ponyta, Eevee had knocked Starmie over and knocked itself out at the same 
time and Geodude was asleep on the ground. They only pokémon who hadn't fainted 
from that group were, Pidgeot, Weezing, Butterfree and Pikachu; but Pikachu was hurt. 
"Pikachu, Ponyta and Eevee return!" said Ash. 
"We haven't given up yet!" said Jessie and James, "This is the battle we are going to 
win." 
"We still have our pokémon," said Misty and Brock. 
"And I still have the other two," Ash added in. 
Onix, Psyduck, Cloyster, Pidgeot, Butterfree and the two ponytas jumped forward. "We 
have other pokémon too," replied Jessie and James. 
Charizard, Bulbasaur, Weezing, Starmie, Staryu, Horsea, Goldeen, Vulpix and Zubat 
jumped forward. "Hey Ash and Brock, I have a plan, it might help," said Misty, "Brock 
you get your Onix to bind Charizard and your Ponyta to flamethrower Bulbasaur. Ash get 
Pidgeot to attack Horsea and Goldeen, get Butterfree to make Charizard and Zubat to fall 
asleep and I'll use Psyduck and Ponyta on Vulpix and Cloyster could get Starmie and 
Staryu." 
"Sounds good, but what about Weezing?" replied Brock. 
"Yeah," says Ash. 
"You'll see, lets get 'em!" said Misty. 
"Are you three ready to loose?" asked James. 
"Yeah, we are," replied Misty, "Psyduck, Watergun Vulpix and Ponyta use stomp on 
Vulpix, Cloyster aurora beam Starmie and Staryu!" 
Ash came forward, "Pidgeot! Wing attack Horsea and Goldeen!" 
"Onix bind Charizard! Ponyta flamethrower Bulbasaur!" shouted Brock. 
Onix came up to Charizard and binded it. "Butterfree use sleep powder on Charizard!"
Butterfree flew over Charizard and used sleep powder; Charizard fell asleep. "Yes! Good 
one Butterfree!" congratulated Ash. 
Ponyta went up to Bulbasaur, used flamethrower and knocked Bulbasaur out in one hit. 
"Hey Ash, Ponyta is better then your Bulbasaur," Brock teased. 
Pidgeot wing attacked Horsea and Goldeen knocking them out as well. Brock's Ponyta 
raced up and Headbutted Vulpix and knocked it out as well before Psyduck even reached 
Vulpix, Ponyta neighed and its flame grew bright, "Brock! Ponyta is evolving!" shouted 
Ash. 
All the pokémon stopped, all the people stopped. Ponyta grew larger, her flames grew 
larger Ponyta was now a Rapidash! It eyed Charizard and wanted to battle it. Psyduck, 
Cloyster and Misty's Ponyta knocked out Starmie and Staryu. The only pokémon left that 
TR had were Zubat, Charizard and Weezing. "Weezing! Sludge attack!" ordered James. 
The place got dark once again with sludge, "Pidgeot, clear the sludge!" 
Misty knew now it was her turn, she ran over to Jessie and James and got back, Ash's, 
Brock's and her pokémon pokeballs. "Goldeen, Horsea, Starmie, Psyduck, Cloyster, 
Ponyta and Staryu, return," Misty said quietly. 
She went through all the pokeballs, making all of Brock's and Ash's pokémon return, the 
only pokeballs she didn't have were Zubat's and Charizard's. Pidgeot had finally cleared 
away all the sludge; Charizard had woken up. The pokémon who were still left out there 
were, Rapidash, Pidgeot, Butterfree, Charizard, Zubat and Weezing. Each of the 
pokémon was looking at the ones on the opposite side to them. Rapidash was looking at 
Charizard, Pidgeot was looking at Weezing and Butterfree was looking at Zubat. "Well it 
looks like three against three!" said Misty. 
"Pidgeot, go get Weezing! And Butterfree get Zubat!" shouted Ash. 
Butterfree flew as fast as it could towards Zubat, getting ready to tackle it. Pidgeot 
flapped its wings as quick as it could to start a whirlwind. Rapidash snorted and started 
scratching the ground with its hoof. Charizard looked back at Rapidash and its flame 
grew bigger. Pidgeot started a whirlwind and it was getting close to Weezing, Zubat and 
Butterfree. "Butterfree move out of the way!" warned Ash. 
Butterfree suddenly stopped in its tracks and turned around. The whirlwind hit right into 
Butterfree and carried it along. The whirlwind sucked in Zubat and Weezing as well. Ash 
couldn't watch Butterfree get hurt, he held up Butterfree's pokeball, "Butterfree return!"
Pidgeot flew towards the whirlwind; the whirlwind stopped and dropped the two 
pokémon on the ground, dizzy. Pidgeot used sand-attack and shot blinding sand up in 
their faces. Pidgeot then used gust and made both of the pokémon faint. It flew back to 
Ash, happy that it had beaten the two pokémon. "Good one Pidgeot, thanks." said Ash. 
Now the only pokémon there were Rapidash and Charizard. TR watched, so did Ash and 
his friends, all in silence. Rapidash galloped at full speed towards Charizard. Charizard 
just stood there. Rapidash lowered its head and showed its horn, pointing towards 
Charizard. Rapidash Headbutted right into Charizard, Charizard roared in pain. Charizard 
flew up above Rapidash so it couldn't reach him. "Ash, get Butterfree to make them fall 
asleep," said Misty. 
Brock got out Rapidash's pokeball, "Rapidash return!" 
Rapidash darted the red beam of the pokeball. "Butterfree GO!" shouted Ash. 
Butterfree came out of the pokeball, "Butterfree make Rapidash fall asleep, it is too 
dangerous." Ash told Butterfree. 
Without a word Butterfree flew over to Rapidash. Rapidash dodged the sleep powder. 
Pidgeot still standing next to Ash flew towards Rapidash to help Butterfree. Pidgeot used 
wing attack, "Butterfree make TR fall asleep, I'll handle Rapidash," said Pidgeot. 
Butterfree flew away from Rapidash and Pidgeot. Butterfree used sleep powder on TR 
and made them fall asleep. Ash started running to TR to get the rest of the pokeballs off 
them. He didn't notice but Rapidash turned on him. "Ash!" Misty and Brock shouted. 
"Huh?" Ash turned around, "Ahhhhhh!" 
Pidgeot picked Ash up off the ground just before Rapidash hit him. "Rapidash return!" 
shouted Brock. 
Rapidash disappeared into the pokeball. "Thanks Pidgeot," said Ash, "You're great." 
Pidgeot flew back down to the ground next to TR; Ash got back the pokeballs, 
"Charizard return, Zubat return." 
Misty and Brock ran up to Ash, "How long do you think TR will sleep for?" Misty asks. 
"I think a long time," replied Ash, "Thanks Butterfree and Pidgeot." 
Ash, Misty and Brock looked up as they heard a helicopter coming. The helicopter landed 
near them. They all looked at it, out of the helicopter came Prof. Oak. "Sorry I couldn't 
come earlier," said Prof. Oak as he walked towards them. 
"That's ok," said Ash, "How did you get away from TR?" 
"When TR was chasing you, I went and got in their helicopter, luckily they didn't come 
back so they didn't notice that I had gone." 
Out of the helicopter came Togepi, "Togepi, I missed you so much," cried Misty. 
"How is Pikachu?" Prof. Oak asked. 
Ash got out Pikachu, "He is ok." 
"That is good." 
"I also got Butterfree back as well." 
Prof. Oak kept talking to Ash and the others. Pikachu went up to Butterfree, "Pika pika 
pichu chu?" (Are you going to stay with us?) asked Pikachu. 
"Yeah but first I have to say goodbye to my mate," replied Butterfree, "Make sure Ash 
waits for me, I'll be back in a minute." Butterfree flew away. 
"Ash, is this your Squirtle?" asked Prof. Oak. 
"Yeah it is, thanks Prof." 

BUTTERFREE 
Butterfree was getting closer and closer to the field of purple flowers. Butterfree landed 
on the ground between the purple flowers. He was really happy to see his mate. 
Butterfree flew up about a metre off the ground and looked around the spread out field. 
He noticed something pink near a tree, "Butterfree?" he called. 
As Butterfree came closer to the tree he realized that it was just a Jigglypuff. Feeling sad 
Butterfree flew away to look some more. He searched everywhere, nothing. The pink 
Butterfree wasn't there. Butterfree went back to the Jigglypuff. The Jigglypuff was 
singing to itself when Butterfree reached it. "Jigglypuff have you seen Butterfree?" 
Butterfree asks. 
"Hmm.... Oh yeah! A pink Butterfree?" 
"Yep." 
"Saw her, but she went, trainer got her, told me to say goodbye to you." 
Butterfree cried, his mate hadn't waited for him. "Hey don't be blue Butterfree, you'll be 
ok." Jigglypuff said. 
Wiping the tears from his eyes Butterfree left, "Thanks Jigglypuff for your help." 
"I didn't even get to say goodbye," Butterfree said to himself. 
ASH
Butterfree got back to Ash and Pikachu. They were all ready to go, Prof. Oak was going 
to take them back to Pallet Town, where they were heading to in the first place. 
"Butterfree, are you ok?" asked Ash as he saw how sad Butterfree was. 
Butterfree didn't want to say anything, even to Pikachu. Prof. Oak kept talking and 
wouldn't be quiet. 
It wasn't very long till they reached Prof. Oak's laboratory. "Now is there any pokémon 
you want me to look after?" asked Prof. Oak.
"I don't think I should keep Rapidash with me," said Brock, "Prof you can look after 
Rapidash. Remember Rapidash be good." 
Rapidash neighed and promised it will be good. "I'll miss you Ponyta and Cloyster, 
thanks for everything," Misty said as she hugged her new pokémon goodbye.
"Which pokémon are you going to keep with you Ash?" asked Prof. Oak. 
Ash thought, "You can look after Eevee and Ponyta." 
"What about Pidgeot?" 
"Pidgeot is a fantastic pokémon, but I already have a Pidgeotto. Brock, Misty do you 
want to have Pidgeot?" 
"Na it's ok," replied Misty. "You're more of a friend to Pidgeot then I am," said Brock. 
"I know," said Ash. 
The three said goodbye to their new pokémon and headed to the local park. "What are 
you going to do Ash?" Misty asked. 
"Just see," replied Ash.
He let Pidgeot out of the pokeball. Pidgeot came out and looked at Ash. "Thanks for 
everything Pidgeot, you are a fantastic pokémon. You saved me from Rapidash and 
helped me save Pikachu. We had a pretty good time. I have decided it will be best for you 
to be free. We will all miss you," Ash hugged the bird, tears welled up in his eyes, 
Pidgeot seemed sad too, "Well it is time to say goodbye, I'll never forget you."
"Pikachu chu pika kaa" (Sorry for electrocuting you) said Pikachu, "Pika pikac chu." (I'll 
miss you.)
Ash cried again and tears dropped on Pidgeot's feathers, Pidgeot didn't want to go, 
suddenly he glowed a golden colour, Ash stepped back. Pidgeot grew larger, and larger, it 
spread its wings back. "Ash! What is happening?" Misty asks.
"I have no idea."
Pidgeot had evolved, but what to? Ash thought, But Pidgeot's don't evolve?. The new 
Pidgeot looked at Ash, it was really big and was different shades of purple. The bird 
spoke, "Thanks for everything Ash. I never thought anyone cared for me, yet you showed 
me that you did. See, Team Rocket were always mean to me, not caring or anything, 
when I was a Pidgey they forced me to evolve when I didn't want to. I thought all humans 
were mean like that till you came, by being there with you and your friends it showed me 
that people do have hearts. I enjoyed helping you and I had lots of fun. Wherever you go 
I'll be there, and whenever you look to the stars at night, you'll see me fly past. I will help 
you when you are in trouble. Please tell no one that I exist, it is a secret for you, your 
friends and your pokémon to only know. I'll always be watching over you, Thankyou."
"Thanks, but ah... Pidgeot what is your name since you have evolved?" Ash asks.
Pidgeot looked at Ash, "You can think up one."
Ash thought for a moment and then remembered Serentine Mountain and how Pidgeot 
helped save Pikachu, "Serentine..."
"Serentine? Perfect, thankyou Ash!"
Ash gave the bird one last hug, the bird hugged him back. It looked up to the sky and 
flew up, "Serentine...," Ash said to himself and smiled. 
Ash, Misty, Brock and Pikachu watched the bird fly out of site. Ash held Serentine's 
pokeball realizing that Serentine was actually still his pokémon, "I have a Serentine??" he 
said to himself.
"Looks like you have a new friend Ash," says Misty. 
Ash smiled, "Yeah I do."
