Episode Three: Battle Rattle

The morning sun shined across Viridian City. The civilians were waking up to the sounds of nature, Dodrio chirping, and Butterfree spreading happiness throughout the town.

“Guys, WAKE UP!” Markus yelled as if a burglar rummaged through the Pokemon Center.

“Who died?” John asked, falling off his bed.

“No one…we just have to go to Pewter City,” Markus responded.

“Wha’…what time is it?” asked Carla sleepily.

“Quarter to nine,” Markus answered.

“Let’s go!” Carla asked, jumping out of the bed, aiming for the bathroom.

After the trio completed their morning rituals and came out of the bathroom, they headed for the main desk of the Pokemon Center. And again, John was acting Brock-like.

“Please, my beautiful nurse! Go on a date with me!” John begged. Then Carla took out the trusty mallet of hers, just like Misty and whacked him on the head, causing a humongous bump on his head. “Ow, not the ear!” begged John.

“Come on, Romeo!” Carla commanded rudely.

“Here, Nurse Joy, you can have the key back,” Markus said, handing over the keys to Nurse Joy, looking at the two friends arguing [Note: Even before these guys were trainers, they were friends.]. ‘How cute!’ Markus thought.

The trio left the Pokemon Center happily; full of energy, then Markus took out his PokeComp, trying to figure out if it has other features, and to his surprise there was. It had a radio, and also had information that a guidebook holds.

“Hey guys! What’s that over there?” John asked. There were three people from the distance.

“It’s THEM!” Markus said angrily.

“Who is Them?” Carla asked dumbfounded.

John and Markus groaned.

“Prepare for trouble, we’re right in front of your eyes!”

“And make it double, we’ll get our prize!”

“To protect the world from devastation!”

“To unite all peoples within our nation!”

“To denounce the evils of truth and love!”

“To extend our reach to the stars above!”

“Team Rocket, blasting off at the speed of light!”

“Surrender now, or prepare to fight, fight, fight!”

“Me-owth! That’s right!”

“Wobbu-wobbu!"

“What do you three want?” Carla asked.

“Your Pokemon!” Jessie snapped. “Go, Seviper!”

“You too, Cacnea!” James said, throwing his Pokeball.

“Se-viper!” The Pokemon was ready for battle.

“Cac-Nea!” Cacnea said, hugging James.

“OWWWW! Not me, them!” James said, throwing Cacnea off his body.

“Seviper, Poison Tail!”

“Cacnea, Pin Missile!”

“Go, Caterpie!” said Markus.

“Weedle, I choose you, buddy!” said John.

“Pidgey, get in there!” Carla said with the duo.

Pidgey, Caterpie and Weedle made their fighting stances. The trio of Pokemon were all out on Jessie and James’ Pokemon.

“Caterpie, Tackle attack on Seviper!”

“Weedle, counter Cacnea’s Pin Missile with your Poison Sting!”

“Pidgey, fly up then use Wing Attack!”

The troop of Pokemon nodded with signs of approval to their trainers and did what they were told to do. Caterpie smashed Seviper’s stomach and dodged the nasty Poison Tail attack. Weedle connected blows with Cacnea, each with plenty of needles, causing an explosion. Both Pokemon were hit and were sent flying to the back of the arena. Weedle got furious. It sent out tons and tons of needles towards Cacnea. Cacnea got hit with them and got severely poisoned. Pidgey flew up and its wings connected blows with Seviper and Cacnea.

“FINISH THEM OFF!” said the three trainers.

The three Pokemon did a team Tackle and sent Jessie, James and Meowth flying.

“Looks like Team Rocket’s blasting off again!” Wobbuffet!

“We did it, you guys!” Markus congratulated.

“Good job, guys!” John said.

“Pidgey! Excellent work! You too, Caterpie and Weedle!” Carla agreed happily.

Suddenly, Caterpie and Weedle started glowing a bright white color. They were evolving!

“All right, they’re evolving!” Markus shouted excitedly.

“Is that bad?” John and Carla asked, clueless.

“No, they are getting even stronger!” Markus said.

“There’s one thing I don’t get! How come my Pidgey didn’t evolve yet?” Carla asked, holding Pidgey on her shoulder.

"Pokemon evolve at different paces and in different ways, Carla. Pidgey evolves into Pidgeotto at level 18, then to Pidgeot at level 36. Weedle and Caterpie evolve into Kakuna and Metapod at level 7 and into Beedrill and Butterfree at level 10. Wurmple evolves into Silcoon or Cascoon at level 7 and into Beautifly or Dustox at level 10. Pichu evolves into Pikachu by how happy it is and Pikachu into Raichu by the use of a Thunder Stone, one of the very rare evolution stones. Feebas evolves into Milotic by high beauty, and Onix evolves into Steelix by trading it with a Metal Coat, and Kadabra evolves into Alakazam if you trade it,” Markus explained.

“What a lecture! You sure study!” John said, taunting Markus a little.

“Kakuna!” said Kakuna.

“Metapod!” said Metapod.

John and Markus took out their Pokedex.

~ Kakuna: the Cocoon Pokemon. Kakuna has encased its body in a hard shell. If a Pokemon dares to touch in the cocoon stage, they will get poisoned in return. ~

~ Metapod: the Cocoon Pokemon. Like Kakuna, it has encased its body in a hard shell. When a Pokemon dares to touch, it will harden up and send down twice its mass on a Pokemon very quickly. ~

“Sweet!” said John. He grabbed Kakuna gently, just in case it will poison him.

“Don’t worry, John. It won’t poison you because it knows you. You're its trainer.”

“All right guys, let’s head for Viridian Forest!” Carla said.

“Yeah, let’s go!

“Lombre, Fury Swipes!” a trainer commanded.

“Lombre, ‘bre ‘bre!” the Lombre said, scratching its foe.

“Raticate! NO!” the trainer cried.

“I won again!” said the other trainer.

“Lombre! Lombre!” Lombre chanted, doing the same pose as its trainer.

“Excuse me, sir? Would you like to battle me?” asked Carla.

“Sure, of course I will! My name is Howard,” the trainer agreed to the challenge, also introducing himself.

“And I’m Carla,” Carla introduced.

“Each trainer will use one Pokemon each. The winner will be decided when either Pokemon is unable to battle! Begin!” said John as a judge.

“Furret, go!” the Howard said, throwing his Pokeball.

“Charmander, go!” Carla said, throwing her Pokeball.

Furret and Charmander emerged from their Pokeballs. They took their battle poses.

“Charmander, Ember attack!” Carla commanded.

“Furret, dodge it! Then Headbutt it!” Howard ordered.

Furret curled up in a ball then rolled away to dodge the attack, then uncurled and hit Charmander hard with its head.

“Charmander, don’t give in! Scratch attack!” Carla commanded.

Charmander ran towards Furret, jumped in mid-air and scratched it badly. Furret was unable to battle.

“Furret is unable to battle! Charmander and Carla wins!”

“All right, we won!” Carla rejoiced.

“Charmander, char char!”

The trio headed off to the forest with two new buddies, Kakuna and Metapod and a victory. What is in store for our heroes next?
