After vanquishing the teams, the trio of trainers, along with Brock, the Gym Leader of Pewter City, has finally arrived at the Pewter City Gym. The trio knew Brock’s weaknesses, so they knew which Pokemon they’d be using. However, they forgot all about his Crobat, so Markus suggested that because of Furret’s high HP count, he’ll use him instead of his Bulbasaur.

“All right guys, who is first?” Brock questioned.

“I am,” said the three in unison.

Brock was confused. ‘How should I battle them? I don’t have much time and I have to see Ash tomorrow…aha!’ he thought. “How about we have a three-on-three battle, each of you using one Pokemon and I’ll use my three, got it?” he asked aloud.

“Sure,” the trio of trainers also said together.

The referee, Brock’s father, Mr. Flint Stone, came out from the shadows holding 2 flags, one depicting red and the other green. Brock was Gym Leader, so he was automatically given red and the trio was left with green. “This match will be a special three-on-three match. If the challenger’s Pokemon is knocked out, then, if their partners can beat Brock, they all get a badge, and if they beat one of Brock’s Pokemon, there will be NO substitutions. Understand?” asked Flint. The trainers and Gym Leader nodded.

“Go, Geodude, Onix, and Crobat!” said Brock, throwing three Pokeballs.

“Furret, Poliwag, Squirtle, let’s go!” said the three trainers.

“Furret, Iron Tail!” commanded Markus.

“How could a Furret use Iron Tail? Oh, never mind, TM…sorry,” said Carla.

Furret’s Iron Tail attack inflicted little damage on Geodude, but at least it lost its defense. [I DO know that Steel type attacks are effective on Rock, but Geodude has a HIGH defense, DUH!]

“Poliwag, Squirtle, double Water Gun!” said John and Carla.

Squirtle and Poliwag let out a jet of water and aimed it directly at Onix, causing a Critical Hit on Onix, making Brock angry.

“Onix, Tackle Furret! Make sure it’s knocked out!” ordered Brock.

Onix kept trying to defeat its opponent, but kept failing every time it attempted to defeat Furret. Furret kept sliding and dodging every attack, one after another. Markus was worried about his Furret. ‘Would it faint? Will it get tired? Maybe that’s his strategy,’ thought Markus. “Furret, Iron Tail!” he said to Brock.

“Grrr…Onix, try to dodge it!” shouted Brock.

Onix, trying as it might, had to take the hit. Its massive body didn’t allow it to run anywhere, and the pipes to the water were under the gym, so there was no way to dig underground, or it’ll be a pickax.

“ONIX, NO!” screamed Brock. He then sighed, “Return.”

“Yes! One down, two more to go!” rejoiced John.

“Good job, Markus!” congratulated Carla.

Markus blushed a little [Wink-wink hint-hint]. “All right Furret, I want you to use Quick Attack on Crobat!”

“Dodge it,” was all Brock said.

Crobat nodded and dodged the attack and then retaliated with a Wing Attack. Furret was hurt. It was out of the match. “No, Furret was one of my strongest…John, Carla, try hard to beat him!”

“Yes, we will try!” shouted both John and Carla. “WATER GUN!” they screamed. Markus just walked out of the battlefield, sat on the bleachers with two of Brock’s brothers, each holding a Pokeball.

“Hey, what Pokemon is in there?” asked Markus.

“Mine is an A…Ar…on…ARON!” the boy stuttered.

“And yours?” he then asked the other.

“Mine is a Rhyhorn. My big brother helped my bro and I catch our Pokemon,” replied the other bro, trying to strike up a conversation.

Markus can hear faint shouts from the battlefield. ‘Maybe they won?’ he asked to himself. He then saw a shadow walk by and revealed itself, James from Team Rocket.

“YOU!” shouted Markus.

“You twerp…gosh I haven’t said that after trying to steal Ash’s Pikachu…anyways, give me your Pokemon, you brat!”

“Butterfree, Stun Spore him!” said Markus, throwing Butterfree’s Pokeball behind him with a smirk on his face.

“AHH!” shouted James, immobilized.

“That’ll teach you not to mess with Markus Flint!”

“Yes, twerp!”

John walked by with a sad look on his face. “Squirtle is knocked out. Geodude fainted, though.”

“Now Carla’s alone against a high level Crobat…let’s help her out…”

“Right.”

“Poliwag, Hypnosis!” commanded Carla.

“Hope it works,” said John and Markus with their fingers crossed.

Crobat fell asleep. The battle was almost over. Carla felt proud that she raised such a strong water-type Pokemon and gave a victory symbol.

“Water Gun!” was the last thing she said…before…Crobat woke up. “NO! Hypnosis then!”

Poliwag waved its tail as a sign of approval and used Hypnosis to finally make Crobat fall dead asleep. The two brothers watched amazed as a small little tadpole can make a big bat fall asleep.

“Water Gun!”

Finally, without waking up, Crobat took a lot of water jets and was considered un…wait! It awoke! The water woke it up!

“Crobat, Wing Attack!” Brock said, confident that he’ll win the gym match.

“Cro…bat!” said the Pokemon.

“Poliwag, slow it down with Bubble!”

Poliwag sent out scores of bubbles, slowing down Crobat as planned, making it pop the bubbles, and Poliwag jumped in mid-air and slapped it with her tail. Crobat fell on the floor, face-first. Poliwag landed on her feet.

“Crobat is now officially declared unable to battle! Markus, Carla, and John have won the match!” Flint declared.

“Go Carla, you’re the best, uh-huh!” John and Markus sang.

“Oh, thanks guys,” replied Carla sweetly.

Brock ran to a room, and then emerged holding three shiny Boulder Badges, one for each trainer. “Your Pokemon seem to be fond of you guys. You will be declared an excellent trio of trainers by me…good luck…”

“Thanks, Brock,” said the trio.

“You’re a good man, sir,” Markus repeated as in the last go-about with him.

“Well, I have to go see Ash tomorrow, so…”

“THE Ash Ketchum? You know him?” asked Markus.

“Yes…”

Markus fainted. He was a big fan of Ash and then awoke again to faint again. Carla just took out her mallet and hit him on the head, causing him to get out of the half-coma and relive…sort of.

“Bye, Brock!” said the trio, heading for Route 3.

“Later guys! Good luck on your journey!” shouted Brock.

The trio left the city of Pewter, each with a brand-new badge. Something was floating above them though, a Meowth-shaped balloon. Looks like Team Rocket’s…

“…Tracking them down AGAIN!” said Jessie, James and Meowth.
