Chapter one

My name is Tobias. You're probably thinking

'Tobias. That's a normal name, he must be a normal guy.' Well, that's history for you. I am Tobias. The one and only human aristh stuck in Red-tailed hawk morph. I'm a freak of nature. No, a freak of alien technology. I am an Animorph. We are four kids, a Red-tailed hawk and an andalite trying to protect Earth from a race of parasitic alien slugs.

We are the opposite of normal.

We had found an entrance to Visser Threes' private yeerk pool and were discussing a way to sabotage it. Rachel thought we should just go in there and kick as many sorry butts as we could. Cassie thought we should sneak in, poison the pool and get out again alive.

Marco thought we should 'Leave those guys to their own business.' Ax asked what 'leaving them to their own business' meant. I thought, well, I don't usually get a say in this sort of thing. I'm just a guard. Jake took in everything and finally came up with a plan.

"OK, Rachel and Marco set up a distraction while Cassie poisons the pool with engine oil.

Tobias and me will be outside if you need any help."

"Man, why do I always get the scary part." Muttered Marco.

< All    -    down here. Haven't been      -      yet. > I heard Cassies' thought speak from her fly morph. I hoped the words I missed were 'quiet' and 'spotted'.

< Right behind you, Cassie. > Said Marco. He was using Hork-Bajir morph, a morph we rarely used.

< Quick, Visser Three's coming! No more thought speak unless it's absolutely necessary.

OK? > Jake was above me in Osprey morph. I peered through the window with my amazing hawk super-sight and spotted Cassie perfectly. If hawks were that intelligent, they would rule over humans. Suddenly, I 'heard' Marcos' thought speak.

< Guys! We've been discovered! Rachel was spotted and when I didn't react they realised

I was me! > Quickly, Jake and me soared through the open window and attacked the nearest Hork Bajir.

Which, unfortunately, was Marco.

< Aaaaaaaaah! My face! >

< Oops, sorry Marco. We didn't think you was you. > I apologized.
