Disclaimer:  OK, peoples.  I own everything Pokémon and the rights to the show, games, and general idea of little monsters being caught in balls and trained.  No I don’t.  They belong to the creator, Game Freak, and all those other people.  All I own are the characters I made up from the top of my Gyarados head.  So there.  Now ya can’t sue the Psychogyarados, otherwise all you will get is my sanity, which I don’t mind losing…but soon I shall have enough money to buy the rights to Pokémon.  Mwahahahahaha.  *Coughs* Ahem, allrighty then.  On with the show.

As the sun slowly ascends over the small town of New Bark, the Pidgey begin chirping to announce the arrival of a new day.  A few Butterfree, Ledyba, and Ledian fly happily collecting pollen, while a few stray Hoot-Hoot and Noctowl head into their nests and drift off into a peaceful slumber.  The skies are bright with yellows, oranges, reds and blues splashed and blended in a splendid array to look at in awe.  The summer morning air was filled with the scent of millions of daisies, roses, and a number of other fragrant flowers from the rolling fields surrounding the bright and cheery town.  Children were up and about, playing happily as they weren’t burdened with school.  The scene was happy and serene to what seemed like everyone.

Near the edge of the lake that led to Kanto, a lone, bruised, and unconscious girl lied sprawled out in a group of bushes, hidden from view.  Between the layers of dirt, a few traces of turquoise hair showed through.  The youngster looked about 12 years in age, looking at the facial features and height.  The muddy shirt and shorts showed almost no traces of color.  Covering her arms and legs were several small scratches and scrapes.  Slowly she began stirring from her slumber.

???:  *moan* Ouch…huh?  Where am I?  *Thinks hard*

???:  ‘I can’t remember anything…’

Meanwhile…

Nurse Joy:  *Walking with Chansey*  “This was a good idea to take an early morning stroll around the town.  Don’t you think Chansey?”

Chansey:  Chansey chan [yes it was].

Back in the bushes…

???:  *whimpering*  “I’m all alone…”

Upon saying this, a group of Spearow fly out of the nearby trees in alarm.

Spearow:  Speeaaarrrooowww.

???:  *Startled and recovers*  “Why am I so alone?” *in tears and whimpering more*

Back to Nurse Joy

Nurse Joy:  “Did you hear that Chansey?”

Chansey:  Chan [yes]

*Whimper*

Nurse Joy:  “There it is again.  It sounds like it’s coming from those bushes.”

Chansey:  Chan chansey [Lets go see].

Nurse Joy and Chansey come up to the bushes where they see the same mysterious girl crying in the bushes.

Nurse Joy:  “What’s the matter?”

???:  “Huh? *Looks over and notices the pink-haired Pokémon nurse*  *sniff* I *hic* can’t remember who I am…”

Nurse Joy:  “Oh you poor dear.  Why don’t you come with me to the Pokémon center to get you cleaned up and we can sort this out?”

???:  *Sniff* “Thank you.  I was beginning to feel all alone.”

Her crystalline-colored eyes looked immediately filled with gratitude for the nurse’s actions.

Nurse Joy:  “Don’t worry.  I’ll help you get over this.  Now lets go.”

Nurse Joy, Chansey and the amnesiac girl travel back to New Bark’s Pokémon Center.

Ten minutes later

Nurse Joy:  “Well, here we are.”

*Everyone enters*

Nurse Joy enters a storage room and emerges a while later with some clothes.

Nurse Joy:  “These look about your size.  Now you can go shower, and get yourself and those clothes cleaned up.”

???:  “Thank you so much.”  *Heads to the shower*

Twenty minutes later

???:  *Walks out of the shower in a green shirt and blue jeans* ‘I should thank Nurse Joy for helping me out by helping her out here’ *reaches reception area where quite a few passing trainers have gathered*

Nurse Joy:  *Is talking to one male trainer* “Here are the keys to your room, and enjoy your stay.”

Trainer:  “Thanks.”  *Walks off*

???:  “Wow.  Look at all the trainers.”

Nurse Joy:  “This is normally the time when trainers begin coming in.”

???:  *Thinking out loud* “Wish I were one…”

Nurse Joy:  “That can be arranged.”

???:  “Huh?”

Nurse Joy:  “You can visit Prof. Elm’s laboratory and pick a beginner Pokémon to start off with.”

???:  “Really?”

Nurse Joy:  “Yes.”

???:  “But if I’m gonna be a Pokémon trainer, I’ll need a name to go by.”

Nurse Joy:  “Hmmm.  How about Krystal?”

???:  “Perfect.”

Nurse Joy:  “Now you go on ahead and go to Prof. Elm’s lab, Krystal.  Here are the directions.”  *Gives Krystal directions*

After half an hour of searching

Krystal:  ‘This must be it.’

Enters the lab

Krystal:  “Hello, anyone here?”

Prof. Elm: *Enters the main lab through a connecting door* “Oh, you must be Krystal.”

Krystal:  “How did you know?”

Prof. Elm:  “Nurse Joy told me you were coming here for a new Pokémon.  Is that true?”

Krystal:  “Yes.  I would like to become a trainer.”

Prof. Elm:  “Well we have three Pokémon available from which you can choose.”

Krystal:  “What are the choices?”

Prof. Elm:  “You can choose from one either a Chikorita, which is a Grass-type Pokémon, a Cyndaquil, which is a Fire Pokémon, or a Totodile, which is a Water Pokémon.  So which one will you choose?”

Krystal:  “I’ll take the Totodile.”

Prof. Elm:  “O.K.  I’ll have it ready for you in two days.”

Krystal:  “Why two days?”

Prof. Elm:  “Because there is some info that I’ll need to straighten out.  But for now I will need to take your picture for your trainer ID that will come in your Pokédex.”

Krystal:  “O.K.”

Another half an hour later…

Krystal:  *Outside the lab* “Thank you Prof. Elm.”

Prof. Elm:  “No problem.  Just be sure to get here around 8:00 A.M.”

Krystal:  “Will do.” *Heads back to the Pokémon center*

Ten minutes later…

Krystal:  *Back at the Pokémon Center* “How about I pitch in around here for today Nurse Joy?”

Nurse Joy:  “Well, I could use the help…okay.”

Krystal:  “Thanks, Nurse Joy.”

Nurse Joy:  “Now lets get to work.”

Krystal:  “Okay”

And with that, Krystal spends the rest of the day helping in treating sick and injured Pokémon, learning a few things, such as how to treat certain injuries that a certain Pokémon constantly receives.  Before she knows it, bedtime has arrived and the Pokémon Center’s once active lobby is now dark and vacant as all the trainers that stayed are already in their rooms.  Tired from all the work of the day, Krystal heads for her room and opens a window to let the night air enter.  Outside, the scenery has drastically changed.  Out and about were the Noctowl and Hoot-Hoot, unseen since daybreak, now filling the air with their harmonic hoots, while Spinarak and Ariados are either busy constructing their webs to use for catching their dinner, or lying hidden in wait by their intricately made fly traps.  Most everyone was asleep in their warm, cozy beds with their sweet dreams playing out.  Ready for sleep, Krystal turns off the nearby lamp and crawls into bed, where she quickly falls fast asleep…

Next morning…

Krystal:  “Mmmm.  That was a good snooze.  I wonder what Nurse Joy’s up to.  Better go see.”

As Krystal heads for the main desk, she has a close encounter with another trainer who had just woken up.

*Bam*

Krystal:  “…ouch.  That hurt.”

Trainer:  “…urrhh.  Huh? *Notices Krystal on the floor* Oh, I’m so sorry.  Here, let me help you up.”

She looks about Krystal’s age, maybe older, with blue hair that closely resembled a palm tree.  Her eyes were a deep violet color that at the moment seemed filled with guilt for the run-in.

Krystal:  “Oh no, it was my fault.  I should have been looking where I was going.” *Gets up* “Oh, and my name’s Krystal.”

Trainer:  “Marina.  Nice to meet you, though not that roughly.”

Krystal:  “Heh heh heh.  Well I was going to get some breakfast.  Wanna join me?”

Marina:  “Oh sure.  I was getting kinda hungry.”

Krystal:  “Well, let get going.”

Marina:  “Okay.”

Krystal:  “Last one to the cafeteria is a rotten Exeggcute.” *speeds off*

Marina:  “Huh?  Oh no you don’t.” *gives chase*

But as they go through the main lobby, their friendly chase is put to an end.

Nurse Joy:  “Hey, stop!  No running around in the Pokémon Center.”

Both immediately halt upon hearing this.

Krystal:  “Sorry Nurse Joy.”

Marina:  “Yeah.  Sorry.”

At their new pace, they enter the cafeteria were they eat a good-sized breakfast, and get acquainted with one another.

Krystal:  “So you’ve been around all of the Orange Islands with your Water Pokémon?

Marina:  “Yep.  They’ve been my best friends ever since I caught each of them.”

Krystal:  “Well soon I shall have a new friend, Totodile.”

The conversation goes on for about an hour until…

Krystal:  “Ya really think I should get a change in wardrobe?” *Looks at her now clean outfit which was a baby blue shirt that looked worn out and a faded pair of blue jean shorts*

Marina:  “Well at least more that one outfit.  How would you wash your only outfit if you’re wearing it?”

Krystal:  “Good point.  Lets go to the mall.”

Marina:  “Okay.”

They begin heading out the door until Nurse Joy stops them

Nurse Joy:  “Where are you off to?”

Krystal:  “Mall.  We’ll be back later.”

Nurse Joy:  “Hold on.  Take this Pokégear with you and call if you’re going to be late coming in.” *hands her the Pokégear with a slip of paper containing both the Pokégear number and the number to the Pokémon Center.

Krystal:  “Okay.  Actually I plan on being here by this evening.”

Nurse Joy:  “Okay, have fun.”

The day goes by with Krystal and Marina looking through the stores to see all the merchandise the place had to offer.  But of course, with Krystal being sensible enough to get only what she went there for, got only her clothes and a few handy supplies from the trainer shops.  She had also done the responsible thing and called Nurse Joy to tell her that they would arrive around 6:45PM.

Back at the Pokémon Center at 7:00PM

Krystal:  “Yay.  Tomorrow I get my new Totodile.  I can’t wait.”

Marina:  “Boy, this takes me back when I got my first Pokémon.  My Staryu.  I was so excited.”

Krystal:  “And look at it now.  A big beautiful Starmie.” *Daydreams* “Oh I can see it now.  Me being honored as the greatest Water Pokémon Master.”

Marina:  “But remember, it’ll be a long road, and you’ll have me to compete with.”

Krystal:  *Snaps out of it* “Oh yeah…well…lets make a pact to stick together and become Water Pokémon Masters no matter what.”

Marina:  “Okay.”

Both shake hands

Both:  “Water Pokémon Masters no matter what.”

Krystal: *Stomach grumbles* *sweatdrop* “…err, lets get some dinner.”

Marina:  “Okay.”

After the two girls have dinner, they wash up and go to bed.

Next morning after breakfast…

Krystal:  *At Prof. Elm’s lab* “Good morning, professor.”

Prof. Elm:  “Oh good morning, Krystal.  Here for your Totodile I see.”

Krystal:  “Yeah.”

Prof. Elm:  “Right this way.”

Leads Krystal and Marina into a room containing numerous Pokéballs.

Prof. Elm:  *Takes out Pokéball* “Here it is.” *hands Krystal the Pokéball*

Krystal:  *holding the Pokéball with an excited expression* “Here in this Pokéball awaits my very first Pokémon.  And now for the moment of truth.  Go Totodile!!”

The Pokéball opens to reveal a small blue alligator Pokémon

Totodile:  Toto totodile?  [Are you my new trainer?]

Krystal:  “I would like to think of myself more as your friend than trainer.” *Walks over and picks up Totodile and gently pets him*

Marina:  “Your first Pokémon so cute.”

Totodile:  Toto dile toto. [I could get used to this.]

Prof. Elm:  “Now here’s your Pokédex and five Pokéballs.”

Krystal:  “Thank you.”

Heads back to the Pokémon center to get registered for the Johto League

In the computer room…

Computer:  “Krystal Waters, from New Bark Town.  Welcome to the Johto League.”

Nurse Joy:  “Here’s your copy of the Johto Guidebook.  And make sure you don’t lose it.”

Krystal:  “I won’t and thank you for everything, Nurse Joy.”

Nurse Joy:  “No problem.  Now you better get going.”

Krystal:  “Okay, see ya.  Come on, Marina.”

And so begins Krystal’s quest to becoming a Water Pokémon Master.  What adventures will they encounter?  Find out next time…

Well, what do ya think?  Good?  Bad?  Don’t care?  Whatever.  Flames will be used in Hydro Pump target practice for my clan of Gyarados.  Chapter 2 will come in time and will depend on how busy I am in school.  *Sniff* *sniff* oh shrimp.  Yummers.  *Chomp* *snarl* *chew*.  (Muffled) suh yuh.
