The Politoed

While walking down the road,
wild Pidgey flying above,
I saw a Politoed,
whose trainer'd push and shove.

"Stop that!" I yelled at him,
"For it has feelings too!"
Said he—eyes turning grim—
"Your own business mind you!"

"Dear man, I cannot let
you treat this Pok'mon so"
I reached down to my belt.
"Vaporeon, Raichu, go!"

His eyes showed stubborn pride
"How dare you challenge me!"
He threw from his own side
Kadabra and Gastly.

Attacks flew left and right
a thunderbolt, psywave,
and swiftly in their flight
an ice beam, and night shade.

Electric power and ghost,
with ice and psychic too
all coincided and
the world turned ghostly blue.

When strange blue light did fade
The sev'n of us were there
but nothing else about
did match our world so fair

The skies were shades of grey.
The grass had disappeared.
The trees had turned to rocks.
And horrid creatures neared.

"Where are we now? Gazooks!"
I heard the fellow say.
"You've done us some great harm.
By hell, you're gonna pay."

"Dear man, take note about,"
was my reply to him.
Said horrid creatures now
were close, and things looked dim.

"Instead to fight ourselves,
Let's fight the common foe.
Let's overcome our hate,"
I said, "Come on, let's go!"

"Raichu, a thunderbolt!"
"Kadabra, do psychic!"
"Vaporeon, water gun!"
"Hypnosis, Gastly, quick!"

We fought and beat the fiends.
Together we did strive.
But there was more to learn
for us to stay alive.

We needed both our wits
For this strange world was bad.
We had no food, no drink,
no hope to make us glad.

"Perhaps we try again,"
I offered as a guess,
"the same set of attacks
that brought us to this mess."

"But what will make it do
the thing that we expect?
For it might make things worse,"
he said, "which we'll regret."

I thought about it more,
yet thought of no way out,
but then the other guy,
"My Politoed!" did shout.

"My Politoed I taught
the Hidden Power attack."
"Perhaps that is the way,"
I said, "to take us back."

But Politoed did not
want this man to obey.
Its trainer it did want
to suffer, hurt and pay!

"Dear Politoed," said he,
"I'm sorry and I'm sore."
He fell down to his knees.
"Please be my friend once more."

I ventured then to say,
"You promise to treat well
this lovely Pokemon?
Make up your mind and tell!"

"I do," he said, "I will."
Then Politoed agreed
to help us all get home.
It pitied this man's need.

So Hidden Power joined
the other powers' attack
and made the world glow red.
Then soon we yelled, "We're back!"

For when the red hue ebbed
The world was blue and green
and trees and grass replaced
the bare, bleak rocks we'd seen.

The sev'n of us rejoiced,
then went our merry way.
I've never seen him since,
but wonder, if I may:

"Where is that trainer now?
I never knew his name.
I wonder if he treats
his Politoed the same?"
