Chosen Quest

Disclaimer : I don't own Pokemon...what else to say?

I know, I know, I made a lot of typos in the first four parts, please don't blame my editor for that. I guess I was wrong about having full time during summer...for how many months haven't I updated? Five or six maybe? I'd say more than a year. I've been busy reading instead of writing he-he... *turning back serious (or at least, trying to)* Anyway, enough of talking, please enjoy!

Part 5

"And?" Ash asked, "What're we gonna do now?"

"A lot of you will get involved in this quest from now on." informed Mewtwo.

            "Which consists to?"

"Have some patience, Jack, I'm getting to it." Ho-oh said, "In fact, it's something that we didn't even know what's all about. You just need to summon some 'crystallized' soul...if that's what we call them."

"And there's another thing, listen people,

            When darkness appears

 Another fight shall begin

Against the Light it will be

 But none side will win.

 To settle the battle

The sacred souls must be brought

In the main temple they should be laid

Where the battle will be fought.

For the one possessing peace to appear

Against the clock will be three races

Then the persons who was once the worse enemy

Must bring two from under the surface.

 For the battle to end

 All must be reunited

But one more will be needed

Who the Chosen One cares the most

Will bring the one that nature chose.”

"What the heck is that?" Gary asked when Lugia finished talking.

"It's a legend I found underwater the other day."

"I found the same one too in my cave!" stated Ho-oh.

"Then now," said Mewtwo, "we need to analyze it."

"Well," Brock began, "the first for verse speaks fairly well of their own. And as for the 'sacred souls', is it the crystallized ones you talked about, Ho-oh?"

            "Yes."

"Then, where's the main temple?" asked Jack.

            "On top of Mount Silver."

"But what are the sacred souls?"

"Ummm..." pondered Lugia for a while. "There are nine different, each refering  to a legendary pokemon."

"Who's the once was enemy? Gary?"

"Haven't you noticed the 'persons' is in plurial?"

"So I guess it's Jessie and James."

            "Could be."

            "But where are they?"

"We'll lead you when the time comes."

With that, Lugia brought an end to the conversation, satisfying Jack's puzzle mind.

"Now, let's stop talking and get to work." announced Ash.

"Confident and out-going, I like your spirit, Ash." said Mewtwo.

Ash put a hand behind his head turning red with embarrassment. "Ahhh...don't say that..."

"Alright, let's organize this." decided Lugia. "Ho-oh, Raikou, Entei and Suicune, you go find the three that Jack's supposed to get. Mewtwo and Mew, bring Jessie and James to their crystals. And the kids will come with me."

            "Yes, sir!"

Lugia landed on Shamouti Island, where you can get the best view of the three legendary islands. Ash, Misty, Brock and Gary (yes, Prof. Oak decided to accompany Jack.) hopped off the giant bird's back and waited for the next step.

"We can't swim or fly over." noticed Gary. "Look at the sea."

Indeed, the sea was dangerous. Thunder clashes randomly into the waters and the wind kicked up huge tidal waves as if they were a mere pack of sand.

            "That's true."

"It's not that bad." said Lugia. "We can use Protect while flying across."

The other three legendary birds nodded.

            "Well, if you say so..."

Ash and Pikachu climbed on Lugia and all took off. They glided easily through the air, evading the falling thunders by maneuvering precisely in graceful moves. It would be indeed a nice ride if it wasn't for the world to save.

"Where do you think it could be, that crystal?" asked Misty, gliding on Ash's Pidgeot.

"In the hidden temples." Lugia said. "I know it."

Soon, the landed on top of the fire island. The statue of Moltres holding a fiery orb was were they had first saw it, it hadn't lost it grandeur even after so many centuries of wind and rain. Lugia gave a nod to the fire bird and it flew up to lightly land on the statue. It clicked its beak, tossing its head and motioning to Ash to come over. Cautiously, Ash approached the rock statuette and pulled the orb as hard as he could. The orb popped out. Ash held it deep within his palm, it felt so warm that he didn't want to let go of it, maybe it was because Moltres' flame was burning in it. He stuffed it carefully in his pocket.

Ho-oh, carrying Jack on his back, arrived at Greenfield along with the three legendary dogs. Sinking quickly into the woods to avoid being seen, they followed Entei, who led them inside a volcano. The camouflaged mouth of the mountain opened to a small platform, where the five of them now stood. Casting a glance over the edge of their terra firma, they noticed a fifty meters free-fall into the bubbling lava below. Just ahead of them, at the other side of the lave pit, was Entei's crystal sphere levitated in mid-air.

"Go on Jacky," encouraged Ho-oh. "Your goal is near."

"This doesn't look very reassuring." Ash's father eyed the old, wooden and half broken suspended bridge that connected the two sides with wariness. "Do I really need to cross that?"

            "Of course."

            "Can't you fly there?"

"Hey, you're the Chosen One, not me!"

Jack gulped and took a hesitant step on the bridge, it cracked. Looking down, he saw huge bubbles of rock in fusion exploding ominously. Controlling his fear, he clenched at the ropes at each side of him and slowly progressed onward.

"Jacky, the bridge is falling apart!" the phoenix cried out loud.

It was too much. Jack let down all his dignity and raced to the other side with a speed that he had never thought possible from his legs. He shot an accusing glare at Ho-oh for having lied to him, took the sphere and prudently walked back onto the bridge.

"Jacky! The bridge really is falling apart!" Ho-oh yelled, but with more emotion in his voice this time.

Just like a few moments ago, Jack screamed in genuine fear and ran back to safety, where the legendaries where.

            "I got you again!"

He glared at the bird. "It's not funny," he panted.

            "So why am I laughing?"

            "Ugh, you make me sick."

Raikou growled impatiently, reminding them to get on going.

* * *

"Wow, that was a close call." Ash jumped down from Lugia's back, glad that he was somehow still alive. It wasn't expected when a jagged line of electricity zapped down a hair from Lugia's wing, they would've been hit if Pikachu didn't counter attack the thunder just in time.

"If your mother knew you are doing such dangerous missions again, she'll get furious for sure," said Misty, readjusting her raincoat's cap over her sunset hair.

Ash pulled out Zapdos' sphere with a grunt. "At least, we're close to finishing it."

* * *

"Oh, no. Not a cave again," whined Jack. "I don't want to go in."

"Well, the sad reality is that you need to go in," said Ho-oh in reply.

They entered the dark cave and walked for a while, seeing nothing apart from the faint outline of the one in front of them. They, they met up with millions of delicate glowing lines criss-crossing the tunnel.

"I wonder what's this." Jack laid a finger on one of the line. Electricity ran through his whole body. "Owwww! What is that anyway?"

Ho-oh smirked. "Hadn't you learn to not touch things that you don't know?"

            "Oh, shut up."

"All right. Here are the instructions. You need to cross to the other side without touching the lines, or else, you'll get electrocuted."

"Me? Alone? What will you be doing here then?"

"Bring your carcass back if necessary."

"Thanks very much," the Pokemon Master replied sarcastically.

He walked on, choosing each step with infinite caution.

* * *

The biting wind swept over the Ice Island, chilling its visitors in their flimsy raincoats. Hunching over, Ash pulled with all his might. The freezing ball finally unstuck itself from the rock Articuno's beak, causing Ash to fall over on his back.

"As clumsy as always," laughed Misty.

Ash got up and patted the snow from his back. "Oh, yeah? Why don't you try?" he shot back, offended.

"Oh, and are you so non-gentleman-ish to let a girl do all the stuff?"

Ash smirked mischievously. "Since when you were a girl? I've always thought you're just an effeminate boy!"

For saying that, he received a violent whack on the head from Misty.

"Let's go," said the Water pokemon trainer lightly. "We have a quest to complete."

* * *

A half an hour later, he came back with Raikou's sphere in his hand.

"It took you some time," pointed out Ho-oh, awakening from its nap.

"If you thought it was that easy...," muttered Jack, climbing onto the bird. His face brightened as they stepped out of the cave. "That means I've only one more to get!"

Ho-oh flapped its huge, majestic wings, lifting itself up into the air. "Indeed. Hang on tight, back there. We'll make a dash to the last one.

* * *

            "WHAT?" Jack yelled. "Another cave???"

            "Yep, you got it."

They entered the cavern and after a few minutes of walk, Jack crashed into something. He put his hands in front of him and felt a wall blocking his way. But farther ahead, they could see Suicune's orb.

            "It's a crystal maze!"

"But we can't even see the walls! How am I supposed to cross that?"

            "You're instincts will guide you."

"Stop shifting from immature to serious, it's freaky," said Jack.

            "Okay then, I'll stay immature!"

Jack entered the maze while  the others watched him crash into transparent walls, not without a certain amusement. Fifteen minutes later, he found his way back with his nose bleeding.

"You shouldn't have ran into that wall, you know?"

"How could I know there was a wall?" fired back Jack indignantly. "I made an enormous sacrifice for  this you know?"

            "Like what? To have nosebled?"

            "Thus, ruining to my handsomeness!"

Ho-oh stayed silent to that, eyes closed. Jack gazed quizzically at the bird.

Finally, it opened its eyes. "Lugia is waiting for us in Celebi's forest," it reported.

They were soon on their way. Shortly afterwards, they joined the other pack. The storm was still going hard.

"I don't think this storm will stop unless we settle down the Dark and the Lights," said Brock.

"There aren't much orbs left to find," pointed out Ash, trying to lift up to the somber mood. "Six down and only three to go!"
