I do not own any of these characters or places that you would see in the Pokémon world. Now here’s Part 18 of this fic. Oh and just like I said before...I only put up all these characters so you'd have an idea as to how old they are. You know whom the "main" characters are and who to worry about, so don't bother with these other characters too much.

Part 18: Happy Birthday Kenji!

RP: Misty and the gang were all invited to a party at the Imité Mansion. It somehow got turned into a surprise party for Kenji. I don’t know how they got the message to him, but---

Ash: Here we go again!

RP: Now what?

Ash: You don’t know how they came up with it!  What kind of a writer are you if you don’t inform your readers on what's happening!

RP: Ash…

Ash: What?

RP: BE QUIET!  MAYBE I FORGOT TO MENTION IT AND MAYBE I DON’T FEEL LIKE PUTTING IT IN NOW!

Ash: (Sweat drops/scared) Sorry!

RP: Now announce the title like a good fanfic character!

Ash: Okay. (Taking a deep breath, about to exhale and announce the title)

All: Happy Birthday Kenji!

Ash: Wait! I thought that I was going to do the title!

RP: I changed my mind at the last millisecond to have everyone announce the title, except for Kenji that is.

Ash: (Grumbles incoherently)

"SURPRISE!!"

Kenji stood there, star struck while everyone blew noise-makers and confetti flew out everywhere.  "Wh-what?"

"O tanjoubi omedetou gozaimasu, Kenji!"

Everyone started to sing "Happy Birthday," Kenji still unsure of how to react.  "I don't know what to say!"

"How about thank you," Jen joked, slapping him on the back.

"Y-yeah.  Arigatou gozaimasu."

With that, everyone led Kenji to the mansion's dining hall.  This room was similar to the room in the restaurant that Duplica had taken Todd, Ash, and Misty to.  This room even had a stage, where a rock band was playing, that Laura simply loved.  How her uncle had managed to get such a famous band on such short-notice was beyond her.   At the far end of the room sat a long rectangular table, beautifully decorated with foods galore, foreign and out-of-season treats.

"This is so cool," Laura squealed, as she was captivated by the song All Dead that the band was currently performing.  Her tall, slender boyfriend, Keisuke, scowled over her drooling over the all-guy band.  Laura turned to her uncle, who didn't really understand the fascination.  She wrapped her arms around him.  "You are the absolute greatest!"

He laughed.  "It's the least I can do for you all, especially since you have a friend who was celebrating a birthday."

"Thank you for inviting us, Imité-san," Misty told him.

"Ahh, any friend of my two nieces, is a friend of mine.  I am honored to have you all as my guests."

Over by the table, servants were setting out more dishes.  Ash and Pikachu were staring, stars in their eyes.  "There's so much food here!!  Look at all of these snacks!!  Ooo, odango, mochi and ohagi!  I love those!  Mom usually fixes mochi for special holidays, and ohagi is yummy at all times of the year!"

"All these foreign foods," Todd noted, taking notice of a huge shallow pan in the middle.  "There's even paella here."

Ash scratched his head.  "What is paella?"

"It's a very tasty rice-dish," Todd explained, investigating the other dishes that had been put out.  "Hmm, gazpacho, arroz abanda, leche frita…"

"Eh?" Ash blinked.

Todd rolled his eyes.  "Never mind."  He stared at the leche frita which had powdered sugar sprinkled over it.  "It's kind of weird how he managed to have that prepared so fast."

"Why?"

"Well, if I'm remembering right, leche frita needs hours of preparation time since it has to be put into the fridge for hours.  With this dish, it's better to prepare it over night."  He looked over the other foods, trying to see what else he could identify.  "Spring Rolls (Egg Rolls), Mandarin Fish & Noodles, Mushroom Rice, Curried Almond Rice, Rice Pudding; Almond Cookies…"

"Chinese foods?"

Todd nodded.  "Let's see, what else do we have here…hamburgers, French fries, hotdogs…French wines and champagnes."

Ash got a sneaky look about his face.  He nudged Todd.  "Are you going to drink any?"

"You know we're too young!  The legal drinking age is 20 for us!"

"Boring!"

At that moment, Mayor Imité asked everyone to take a seat at the table.  It was time for dinner.  Everyone took a seat, admiring the foods.

"Zooni, that's an odd dish to be having at this time of the year," Ash said.

"Yum, shabushabu!" Brock exclaimed.

"Steamed gyooza!" Jen smiled.  "I love steamed gyooza!"

"Okay everyone, dig in!" Mayor Imité instructed.

"Itadakimasu!" everyone said, beginning their consumption of the meal.

In front of Damion, sat a bowl.  His cool, calm demeanor was replaced with one of excitement.  "Ahh, unagi donburi!"

Cherie, who was seated nearby, gave him a strange look, setting her burger down.  "You actually like that?"

"Hai!!!" he replied.  "Unagi donburi wa ore no koobutsu desu."

"Hmm, tenpura wa atashi no koobutsu desu," Misty replied.

"I like sukiyaki."

"I love sushi!"

"Of course, Master Meowth," Mondo chastised with a smile, "you are a feline, after all."

"Just remember, I'm the top cat!"

"I love pizza," the spiky, red-headed Eric said.  "It reminds me of home, and nothing beats pepperoni!"

"Look at all of this lovely fresh fruit!" Marissa's mouth watered.

Cassandra shook her head.  "You're the only one I know that would eat something so healthy at a celebration."

A servant came around, serving and pouring drinks for everyone.  Mayor Imité stood, his glass of wine raised.  "We are here to celebrate the birthday of my nieces' friend, Kenji.  We wish you a very nice birthday, son."

Everyone clapped, Kenji blushed from nervousness.  "Um…thanks," he answered timidly, scratching the back of his head.  "I must admit, that this has been a strange birthday so far, though."

"Nothing turned out the way it was planned, but I must admit that this turned out much better."

Joya nodded in agreement with Jen.  "Yes, we are at the Imité Mansion, what better place to have a good, old-fashioned get together."

They all engaged in conversation and finally a cake was rolled out. It was really tall and it had a big 18 on the top with sparkling type candles. Everyone sang happy
birthday to him.  Kenji then blew the candles out, and made a wish.  After that was done, those who had them gave him their presents.

The now 18-year-old boy's eyes lit up, as he opened up the first gift.  "Wow, a new Pokémon Research Kit!!" He looked over to Ash and Misty.  "Thanks a lot!"

Ash gave him a thumbs up.  "No problem."

He unwrapped the next present, which was from Jessie and James.  "This is very nice!  A mini-computer organizer for all of my Pokémon information and research!!  Thank you very much!"

"Don't mention it Art Twerp…er…Kenji."

"I can't believe it!!  It's a book on the latest Pokémon discoveries!"

"And it was written by Westwood V," Cassidy informed him.

"Thank you all for the best birthday I've ever had."

Brock clapped him on the shoulder.  "You deserved it.  You've been a great friend to us all."

The boy with the short black hair rubbed his hands together greedily.  "I say we get right down to that huge cake!" Tad said.

Misty stood up, plate in hand, and practically ran towards it.  "I'm ready for my piece!"

Eric could only blink at Misty's display.  "How in the world did she get up there so fast?"

"When  it comes to sweets, it's easy," Brock laughed.

As for the Pokémon - Mewtwo included - of this small celebration, they were all in a special room made specially for them, with the exception of Meowth.  Later on, after the cake had been cut, he decided to rejoin his Pokémon friends.

After the multi-cultural dinner, along with the cakes and the desserts (Jessie whacking James with her fan for trying to stuff his face with everything this dinner had to offer), everyone either conversed, or danced to the music being performed by the band.  The evening finally entered the night, which meant it was time to leave.  Before everyone did, though, Laura made sure to get an autograph of this band, especially the lead singer, his dark hair with light streaks flowing down to his shoulders.

Gary was staying in one of the most exquisite, and expensive hotels the place had to offer, which ironically, was where James and his group were staying.  As for Damion, Cassandra, and Marissa, they all headed over to the Pokémon Center, along with both Tad and Eric.  The girls (Toni; Cherie; Shelley) had decided to stay at a hotel for the night.  It wasn't an expensive one, but your typical average budget ones.  Laura stayed with her boyfriend at his place, while Joya's older sister stayed with a friend of hers.

As for the others, it was the same.  Right now, Ash and Todd were talking about their day; unfortunately, the two also ended up encountering the same problem…

"This was a very unusual night," Todd sighed as he changed into his pajamas.  "I don't really understand what happened to me."

"Aww, don’t' worry about it," Ash told him, pulling off his shirt.  He began to chuckle a bit, as he pulled on his pajama top.

"What's so funny?"  He put on his pajama bottoms.

"I was just thinking about something you did earlier."

"What did I do?"

"You actually threatened Misty to marry you."

Todd's eyes went wide at the thought.  "I did what!!!  Marriage?"  Ash nodded.  "No way!!  I'm not ready for that kind of a commitment yet with anyone!  Marriage is the last thing on my mind!"

"I know, you weren't yourself, so don't worry about it."

The taller boy grew a bit quiet.  "Ash, I'm sorry for the way I acted.  I didn't mean to hurt you or the others."

"That's okay.  Let's start off fresh.  You know that saying…" he trailed off, as he tried to recall it.  "Ah, kaka no koto wa mizu ni nagashimashou," he told him wisely.

"Okay," he put out his hand; Ash accepted it, "sure thing."

After the handshake, Ash took off his Pokémon League cap and tossed it aside.  "I'm exhausted; how about you?"

"I'm very tired."

Ash stretched, and said with a yawn, "We should get some sleep, since we have to get up early in the morning."

He nodded in agreement, heading over to the bed.  Ash was doing the same.  Just like before, the two hopped into the single bed, only to bump their heads.

"Ugh, not again," Todd groaned.

"No way, I'm getting the bed!"

"Uh-uh!" Todd disagreed, pointing to himself while shaking his head.  "I am!"

"No you're not!"

"Yes I will!"

Ash stepped up to Todd, getting into his face!  "Says who!"

Todd held up his fists.  "Says me!"

The Pokémon trainer grew a bit apprehensive since Todd was bigger than he was, but figured there was a better way to determine as to whom would get the bed.  "How about we play a game to see who gets the bed for the night."

":That's a perfect idea!:"

"Pikachu?" both boys questioned in unison.

":I like sleeping in beds too.:"

"Hey, where's Mewtwo, Pikachu?"

":Mewtwo is resting up in the game room.:"

"Never mind that, let's just play a game," Todd urged.  He really wanted to rest.

Ash nodded.  All of a sudden, the room grew a bit dark, and Ash was now wearing a green visor, sitting down at a table with a green cloth-like material at the top.  There were two seats, and in front of each spot sat red, white, and blue chips.  Ash was shuffling cards, a dim light shining down on him.  "Satoshi is the name," - he dropped the cards, and picked them up quickly - "um, where was I?  Oh yeah!  Satoshi is the name, and Poker's the game!  Deuces are wild, values are tripled---"

Todd and Pikachu could only sweat drop at the boy, their eyes slit.  Ash noticed their looks.  "What?"

"You don't know how to play Poker!"

"Yes I do!"

"Okay smarty, how do you play and what is the object of the game?"

"Um," he scratched his head, "isn't Poker that game where you try to get the numbers to add up to 21?"

"No!" Todd shouted at him in sheer annoyance.  "That's the game Blackjack!"

"Oh yeah, that's right," he laughed sheepishly.  "Wait, I know now!  Poker is that game where you have to make it so that all of your cards go away.  You know, like a war or something, and every time you put down the same card, you have to war and whoever gets the higher card value, wins all of the cards."

Both Todd and Pikachu face-faulted at the boy's lack of knowledge when it came to card games.  "That's the game War!" both shouted to him.

The room was now back to normal, Ash once again giving off a sheepish laugh.  "Oh, yeah."

":How about chess?:"

"Chess?"

"Did Pikachu say Chess, Ash?"  He nodded.  "That's perfect, then!  I love playing Chess."

"Hey, I'm terrible in that game!  I play Pikachu all the time and I lose!"

":That's the point.  The game will go along much quicker if you play.  I can beat you in about four moves.:"

'I don't know what he said, but I'm assuming it has something to do with how often and how easily he beats Ash.'

"I still don't get how you guys can actually win at that game.  Every time I play Pikachu, I lose every time."

"Why am I not surprised that he'd lose to Pikachu," Todd muttered under his breath.

"HEY!!"

"Erm, how about we play a game of Janken.  Chess is too long if you're a half-way decent player."  He gave Ash an arrogant smirk.  "Oh, this doesn't apply to you."

"Hey!"

"So, how about Janken?"

"Sure, sure.  Let's get this game on the road and no do overs!"  Todd and Pikachu nodded.  'I bet both Todd and Pikachu are going to put out scissors.  I'll show them!'

'I bet old predictable Ash is going to throw out rock.  I'll just put out paper.'

"Jan-ken pon!" all three called out.

Ash put out rock; Todd put out paper; Pikachu put out both scissor and paper.  ":Let's see, scissor beats paper,:" he snipped at Todd's hand, ":and paper beats rock.:"  He cupped Ash's hand.

"NOOOOOOOOO!!!" both screamed.

"You cheater!" Todd screeched in annoyance.

"Pikachu, that's cheating!  You can't put out two!"

":Looks like it's the floor for you two again,:" Pikachu snickered.  ":Besides, you didn't say I couldn't.:"

"What do you mean we didn't say you couldn't put out more than one?!  It's obvious that you only throw out one."

"Do over!" Todd declared.

Pikachu shook his head.  ":No do overs, remember?:"

"What did he say?"

"No do overs."

"Ash," Todd growled.  He shook his head.  "Nothing's worse than a smart-allecky electric rodent."

The two boys defeated, headed to their sleeping bags, muttering obscene things about Pikachu under their breaths, which Pikachu heard.  He ended up using a Thundershock on the both of them.

Todd: (Annoyed tone) So much for my not getting hurt!

RP: Sorry, Todd; Pikachu or any other Pokémon doesn’t count, only the human characters can’t hurt you, like Misty.

Todd: Awww!

Todd grumbled and went to sleep and left RP to do what she does best…narrating and writing fanfics, that don't just confuse her readers, but herself as well.

The next morning…

"Well," Ash said between bites of his roll and honey, "it's time to get to Indigo Plateau."

"Yeah," Todd said, gulping down a spoonful of his cereal.  "The League Games are only three days away."

Misty took a sip of her hot tea.  "It's a good thing Gary told us about it starting sooner than what you thought.  You would've been ranked out before you even started."

"Yeah, Giovanni had everyone fooled it seems," Todd muttered.

Ash swallowed down the rest of his roll.  "Gary was anxious to leave and left very early this morning."

"I don't blame him," Misty said.  "He even has that strange Pokémon now, do you think he'll be able to use it for the league games, or for any other league he may ever join?"

"He should," Ash answered shortly.  "There's no rule stating that you can't use newly discovered Pokémon, even if the Pokémon does have a strange name that seemed like it was made up on the spot."

After their meal, Misty and the others stood, and headed outside, where they all conversed while awaiting Duplica, who had left earlier, to let her uncle know that she was leaving.

"It's so warm out here," Todd commented while leaning against the front door.

Misty stretched her arms, taking in the sun's rays.  "Kinoo wa totemo samui katta!"  She pointed up towards the golden orb in the sky. "And look at that wonderful golden sun.  It's so nice to see again along with this nice, tropical weather."  She began to twirl around playfully, Togepi laughing at the sight along with Pikachu.  "I thought I'd never be so happy to see the sunlight again."

"Why didn't you just ask Bulbasaur to use a Solar Beam so you could see the sunlight?" Ash asked densely.

Misty stopped twirling, and Todd sweat dropped.  Neither could believe the boy had said something so silly.

"I'm not even going to comment on that one," Todd muttered.

"Neither am I," Misty said with a sweat drop.  "Ash, I'm glad to see the real sunlight, not a beam that could possibly kill me!"

"Um, you said you wanted to see the sunlight, and Bulbasaur has Solar Beam; besides, if not well protected when outside in the real sun, you could injure your skin, especially if you're not wearing any sun block."

Pikachu shook his head.  "Pika pi…"

Misty and Todd sighed at him, while Pikachu, Togepi, and the new Pokémon that stuck with Misty, began to play in the yard.  Mewtwo was just staring at the frolicking Pokémon somberly.

"Oh, yeah, that reminds me, thanks for the Pokémon you caught for me, Misty."

"You're welcome…but, it wasn't me who caught it; it was my correlate," Misty said slowly and unsurely.  She thought for a moment.  "It's a rare and unusual one; what does your Pokédex say about it?"

"I never did check."  Ash unhooked the conspicuous Pokéball from his belt, and tossed it.  The Pokémon to emerge from it was yellow and black, short, and its head looked to be shaped like a plug for an outlet.

He pointed his Pokédex at it, which gave off a sharp ping sound.  "Elekid, an electric-type Pokémon.  It is the pre-evolved form of an Electabuzz.  This Pokémon is considered, or classified, to be a G/S Pokémon since it was just recently discovered.

"This particular Elekid is as strong as an Electabuzz; possibly, stronger and it is highly unusual for one to be captured inside of a regular Monster Ball.  One normally must use the special G/S Pokéball in order to capture it; however, it can be caught if the Pokéball is strong enough, if it is made of special properties, or either if the Pokémon is extremely weak."

"What's a G/S ball?"

Todd and Misty shrugged.

"Hey, Ash, I definitely have to get a photo of that Pokémon."

"Welcome to the team, Elekid," Ash told his new friend.

":Hi!  I'm glad to be a part of it.:"

"We're happy to have you," Misty smiled to it.  "You know, maybe Professor Oak knows something about a G/S ball, or maybe he knows someone who does."

"Maybe."

":I would like to go back into my Pokéball now.  I'm still tired from doing all of that work for the guy that forced me to work for him.:"

"Ash, I think you should call Elekid back now."

"How come, Misty?"

"It's tired."

Ash did just that, and recalled Elekid.

"What does it say about the actual Pokéball that Elekid was caught it?" Todd asked.

Ash held the majestic ice-colored ball in his right hand, while holding his Pokédex in the other.

"This Pokéball is not that of your regular type.  It has unusual and strange magical properties.  This Pokéball is strong enough to capture the most rare and strongest Pokémon ever, and is more effective than that of a Master Ball.  There has never been one like it.

"It is also known to belong to the Ice Goddess, Mizuna, who lived centuries ago.  It is said that she perished while in battle against an evil and strange type force, at the age of 16 years."

Todd blinked.  "Goddess?  That girl was some type of a goddess?  But how---"

"Since she and her friends died in battle, they were reborn in the forms of us," Misty once again explained.  "When they returned, we were to defeat them, only this time killing them.

"According to my knowledge, locking the barrier is what killed them all.  All four combined their powers, but it drained them of their life energy as well.  They were only trying to protect the inhabitants of this world by doing so."

Todd threw his arms up into the air, staring at the redheaded girl.  "But how do you know all of this stuff!"

"I don't…know.  I'm still trying to figure that out.  It's strange because a day ago, I didn't know anything, but now I seem to be a history professor.  Maybe it was meant for me to know this stuff?"

Before either boy could reply, they saw Duplica rushing up to them, waving.  "I'm ready to go, guys!"  She stopped in front of them.  "Where are the others?"

"In the house," Todd told her.  "I'll go tell them that we're ready to leave."

A short while later, Brock and the others exited the house.  Ash, Misty, Todd, and Duplica all waved to their newly found friends, and leaving a couple of old ones.

"Bye Jen-neesan; Joya-neesan!"

"We hope to see you guys again real soon," Misty said to them.

"It was nice hanging with you guys," Todd said.

"It was nice to have met you two," Duplica said to Kenji and Brock.

"Bye, and thanks." Jen called to them.

"It was very nice meeting you," Joya told them.

"You better behave yourself," Brock said threateningly towards Ash, "since we're not going to be around."

"He's right," Kenji agreed.  "Don't scare us like you did earlier.  You're too young to be doing that sort of thing."

"Yeah, wait until you're our age to start!"

Kenji gave Brock a slightly annoyed look.  "Only you would say something like that..."

Ash could only shrug at what they could've possibly meant, as they continued on.

"I'm going to miss them," Misty said with a wistful sigh.

"Me too." Todd slowly nodded.

"Do not worry," Mewtwo assured them, "we will see them again quite soon."

":I think I am going to enjoy traveling with you all.:"

"I will too, Flamie."

"What did it say?" Todd asked.

"Flamie was just saying how much he's going to enjoy traveling with us."

"Hey, I just realized something!" Ash exclaimed, coming to a slight halt.

"What?"

"Misty understood everything that Pokémon said, just like she did with my new Elekid."

"Whoa…you're right," Misty realized.  "I've always understood my own Pokémon, given some time, but never anyone else's with the exception of your Pikachu, and never any when I first get them."

"Maybe it's just a coincidence?" Duplica insisted.

"I'm not sure, but I have an idea."  Ash unhooked one of the spheres on his belt.  "Come on out, Squirtle!"

The turtle-like Pokémon emerged from the Pokéball.  ":What's wrong?:"

"Talk to Misty, Squirtle."

Confused, he scratched his head and said, ":Okay:"  He thought for a moment, turning to Misty, and began to ramble.  ": Hey, Misty, how are you? The rain in Spain is really nice today. Oh, today just in, Pikachu is a lot stronger than the average Raichu as of the moment, as well as Bulbasaur being stronger than an Ivysaur! And I’m the best Squirtle around these parts, meaning I’m better than any other Pokémon there is!:"  Squirtle put on his sunglasses and then raised his arms in the air triumphantly, like he was extra cool…which he is.  ":I rule!!:"

"The beginning of that didn't make much sense, but, the rest of it was understandable."  She translated what Squirtle had said to the others.

Pikachu gave Squirtle a look.  ":What do you mean the best there is.:"

Squirtle put his sunglasses away, and retorted timidly, ":Just kidding.:"

"That's definitely too silly to make up," Todd pointed out with a laugh.

"So she has the power to understand Pokémon speech?" Ash queried.

"I guess so.  Hey, what does it say about my Flamie?"

Ash pushed a button on his Pokédex, which he just found out about from Kenji, which observes what it sees or how a Pokémon may act if there was no data available on it.  He pointed it at the Pokémon.

"Observatory Mode option chosen."  It pinged.  "Flamie, a newly discovered Pokémon, by which no data is found on.  Due to observation, Flamie seems to be a Water, Psychic, Ice type, or a combination of the three.  It also has properties of that of a Shadow Pokémon, which were thought to have been extinct many years ago."

"Dexter, can you explain about the Shadow Pokémon and what happened to them?"

"Shadow Pokémon were Pokémon that were able of using attacks of their shadow selves.  For example, a Pokémon who was basically fire-based could use attacks belonging to that of a water type.  The majority of these Pokémon had at least one psychic type attack and also seemed to be crossbred with some other type of Pokémon.

"It is unknown how Shadow Pokémon became extinct, but their descendants roam the earth today.  The name "shadow" was given to them due to the fact that they all root back to Kage Island, and no other place in the entire world."

"If they're all extinct, how come Flamie is still around?" Duplica questioned.

"Yeah, how come, Flamie?" Misty asked it.

":My spirit was resurrected.  When the others fought before against the shadow demons and the evil sorcerer, who had been reborn in the body of Giovanni, I was your Pokémon.  I tried to help you then and you were my best human friend as well as my trainer.  I too was preserved so that I could join you whenever they were returned.  When I was resurrected, I was under a very strong hypnosis spell, which is why I attacked the boy with the camera and wasn't sure of my true purpose.:"

Misty translated for the others.  "Nice, but what about those other two Pokémon…that Arcaking and that Michu?"

Flamie looked to Duplica.  ":They were originally the Pokémon of the two that share the power of one.:"
Edit: I wrote this fic way before I knew about "The Power of One" thing being the dubbed name of the second Pokémon movie instead of Maboroshi no Pokemon: Lugia Bakutan! (Pokémon Revelation Lugia), which is way better than Mewtwo Strikes Back, and I'm referring to the original versions of them, not the dubbed ones.  I've never seen the second movie dubbed (only subbed), so don't flame me for that line above.  I just noticed it while proofing this.

Misty once again translated.

"So if that's the case, how come they didn’t help them out like you did?" Todd asked.

":Because the spell on them was so strong, it affected their thinking.  Also, since they were being used by others that made them think that they were to obey them.  The Michu is now with the one by the name of Damion, and the Arcaking is now with the one called Shigeru.  I was slowly regaining my memory after I attacked the one named Toru.  My capturing him, seemed to break the hypnosis spell that was on me.:"

Mewtwo nodded, understanding completely.  "It seems that you and I are quite alike."

"What did Flamie say?"

Mewtwo translated this time for the group.

"That's very strange," Ash murmured as they began their brief walk again.

"Oh yeah, that reminds me," Todd started, "Mondo is leaving today.  He's going back to the gym in Viridian to help out some guy there named AJ.  He's running it for them.  The rest of the ex-rocket members are staying longer, but I think Meowth is leaving with Mondo."

"AJ?" Misty and Ash said in unison.

Todd nodded.

"And you say he's running the gym?" Ash asked.

"Yeah, he is."

Misty smiled.  "We haven't seen him in a long time!"

"Who's he?"

"He's an awesome battler!"

"In other words, Duplica, he lost to him in a battle."

"Hey, leave me alone!  I didn't lose!  I was just…um…distracted by…um…your beauty!  Yeah, that's right!"

"Save the sweet talk, Ash; you still owe me a bike."  Ash nearly face-faulted from the response, Misty laughing.  "Besides, you probably didn't even notice I existed then."

"What does he look like, and what type of Pokémon does he have?"

"He had a whole lot of them.  One that he liked to use in particular was a Sandshrew, but since we haven't seen him in such a while, he could've evolved into a Sandslash by now.  His Sandshrew was so strong, it could withstand water attacks."

"Wow, that's really good."  Misty then proceeded to describe what the boy looked like.  "He sounds cute."

"Well guys, my birthday is coming up and I will be officially 14 years old," Ash said randomly to no one in particular.

"It's not June yet," Misty pointed out.  "Now my birthday is much more important, since I'll be 15."

"I know that!"

"It's only April, Ash.  Your birthday isn't until June."

"Well, if I remind you now, that way you can shop for my present now, and---"

"I can't believe him," Todd said while smacking his forehead.

"Hey, there goes the airport, guys," Duplica announced.  "Let's go."

"Hey, the other trainers we met yesterday are there," Misty said.

"Of course; they're in the league too.  When I talked with them last night, they said pretty much the same thing; that they were here to try and get a badge to qualify."
