Rayne’s Story Chapter 3 By Salastoise {Rayne.} Something poked me.{Rayne! Wake up!} I opened one eye. {What?} {It’s morning, idiot.} Chris replied, paws on his hips. {Okay, okay. You didn’t have to snap at me like that.} I yawned. I rolled over and stretched. Chris stood on his Charizard hind legs to see what was on tv. {Uh, Rayne? Have a look at this.} I finished stretching and blearily peeked at the pokemon center tv through the window. I immediately widened my eyes in surprise. The news reporter was standing in front of a ruined building. It looked like a tank had rolled through, which was precisely what had happened. "Saffron army forces rolled through the Silph Co. building and discovered a Rocket base last night." {Well, so much for trying to stop the world takeover.} I said, my eyes still glued to the tv screen. "Of course, the Rocket base was completely empty when they got there, but Sabrina reports they were there recently. More information after this short commercial." {Plan A was a complete failure.} I yawned, plopping down. Chris glared at me. {What other ideas do you have?} {I say we look for them in the surrounding areas,}I replied. Chris ticked off one possibility after another on his fingers. {Well, there’s the outskirts of Vermillion City, Celadon city, Mt. Moon, and Lavender town.} I got up. {The most likely place would be Lavender. Let’s go there. Wanna fly?} Chris grinned evilly. {Once I get there, I’m going to make them see the meaning of the phrase "Team Rocket".} He mashed his fist into his paw. My eyes glowed. {Let’s go.} I levetated and shot up into the sky. Down below, Chris was right behind me. A trainer coming out of the Pokemon center saw my shadow, looked up, and gaped. Without waiting, I made a beeline to Lavender town. Chris glided beside me. On the way, neither of us talked. The only pokemon we happened to see were Spearow and Pigeotto. Soon, the tower came into view. {Here we go,} I breathed. Landing behind the tower, I saw several Ditto who were crying. In the middle of the group was a small Ditto who wasn’t moving. They backed away when they saw me. {It’s okay. I won’t bite,} I whispered soothingly. One of the larger ones inched towards me uncertainly. {Can you help?} {Help with what?} I inquired. {Jelly….he-he got attacked by a mean man and his Nidoking because he was in the way of the tower door. I…don’t know how to help him…} I padded toward Jelly. He was breathing lightly. {He’s still alive.} Chris tapped me on the shoulder. {Do you think you know the move Recover?} {Maybe. Stand back,} I ordered the Ditto. My eyes glowed and I focussed on Jelly’s injured form. Inside him his organs were damaged. I carefully repaired them and gave him an energy boost. Jelly opened his eyes. {He’s all right!} cried the leader in tears. Jelly sat up. {What happened?…I thought I was a goner.} {This nice pokemon here repaired you from the inside out,} replied the leader happily. Jelly took a glance at me, then enveloped me in a hug, which felt like being attacked by Silly Putty. {Easy kid,} I gasped. {I’m Jello. What brings you here?} asked the leader. {We’re going after Team Rocket!} yelled Chris. Jello quivered. {The mean man?} {Partly for revenge, partly for saving the world. See, er, we’re not pokemon,} I said. {We were humans, kidnapped from our homes and turned into this.} Jelly looked angry. {The fiend! I wanna fight!} {So they’re in that tower?} Chris asked. {Yep.} {Thanks a lot,} I said before running up the wall. {No, thank you!} I heard Jello’s fading voice call. {That was really nice of you, Rayne,} said Chris. I didn’t reply. Soon I reached the top of the building. There was a door going down to the top level, and an air vent. Which do you think we took? Yep, the air vent. {Man, is it ever hot in here,} panted Chris. {Shhh!} I hissed. We were over a room. I looked thourgh the opening in the vent and gasped. It was a genetics lab. In one of the cylinders, was Articuno. He was thrashing at the glass, trying to get out. The lights of the room were out, meaning they were done for today in there. I pawed off the vent cover and dropped down. Chris had a harder time getting down. Because of his wings, he had to melt the metal a little to fit. {Not an experience I’d like to relive,} he grumbled. {What are you doing here?} asked Articuno. {No time. We’ve got to get you out of here,} I said, walking up to the controls. I couldn’t understand a thing. {Fine, I’ll just blow it up.} I decided. I unleashed a psychic blast and the canister broke. Articuno spread his wings and blew a hole in the roof. That set off the alarm. I looked to the door in panic, hearing footsteps. When I glanced back at Articuno, he wasn’t there. {Just like a legendary to leave without saying thank you,} Chris muttered. {We have to get out of here…} I whispered uneasily. "You idiot!" I jumped. Unsteadily, I wobbled to the door, stood on my hind legs and peeked out the window. I saw two rockets, and one, apparently, had done something wrong. "We have to leave now! You just initiated the self-destruct sequence!" the younger Rocket’s superior yelled. {Oh no…} I groaned. INITIATING SELF DESTRUCT SEQUENCE….IN 5…4….3…2…1…GOOD BYE. {Oh noooooooo!} I screamed. The resulting explosion threw me out of the tower, smoking, towards the outskirts of Lavender Town. Because it happened so fast, I didn’t have time to fly. This is the end…Suddenly, something of a trampoline caught and sucked me into it so I wouldn’t bounce off. I raised my head and saw Jelly. I smiled feebly. {Thanks…} He released me and I fell to the ground. {No problem. Say, didn’t you have some one else with you?} I weakly got to my feet. {Oh no…Chris! Where..is he?} "Oh cool, look over there, Flareon! I’m gonna catch it!" A voice shouted. Jelly slid in front of me to protect me from the speaker, a trainer about five feet away from us. By his side was a Flareon. His hair was brown, his eyes a deep blue, and he was dressed in baggy jeans and a blue t-shirt. In his hand was a pokeball. "Flareon, move that Ditto with an ember attack!" he commanded. In a defensive manuever, Jelly Transformed into Flareon and countered with quick attack. Ember missed and hit me on the shoulder. I cried out in pain and crashed into the dirt. I wasn’t fainted…yet. Jelly’s eyes were on fire with rage. {How dare you!} he cried, performing takedown. He missed and bumped into a rock. Flareon hit him in the back with take down. Jelly was down. "Good job, Flareon! Blizreon’s ours!" he grinned. He threw a pokeball at me. {Please…you can’t…} I pleaded as I was sucked inside the pokeball. I weakly fought to get out, but failed. He caught me. End chapter 3.
