A Monumental Undertaking
By Saliaven Chronotis
Part 8

The Window Opens

Saliaven stepped into the energy column and rode it to the top of the tower.  Standing on high, he could see the damage fully, and marveled that the people had survived.  He would do as promised now, and right what they had suffered.  He amplified his voice and spoke a new chant <Begin Prometheus, from Telemetry>
“The window opens
I am crucified
There shall be no more mockery
of the gifts of the gods
no more comparisons
no more distortions
my heart is heavy and stone
I AM SALIAVEN
and I see your suffering from up here
take heed, thou frail and weak of heart
for I am not without pity
behold, this final nail
unnamed
undriven
and this nail shall represent hope”
<End Prometheus>
With that, he summoned a mana spike, and drove it deep into the ground.  Where it had been sent, grass began to grow, spreading out in all directions.  Trees appeared, growing tall in seconds, and crops bore fruit as the people watched.  Towns and cities were restored from their near ruined state, back to the way they had been when last Saliaven had walked their earth.  One cartographer in Melder found himself imbued with the ability to make real time tracking maps.  Lori was glad that his help had been repaid, even if repayment had not been asked for.
Saliaven floated down to the avenue in front of the temple.  “Balance is restored.”  He then cocked his head to one side “Almost.”  The group had managed to find their way out of the temple and Ash asked “Why almost?”
“The mana well here has not been balanced because the one in Kanto hasn’t been opened.
Vapor was intrigued “There’s a mana well in Kanto?”
“Yes, the Lavender town pokemon tower.”
Misty looked horrified “sylph co. knocked it down to make a radio tower.”
Saliaven slapped his forehead “so they did.  I guess we’ll have to fix that when we get back.  For now, I must speak to the former head of the magi here.”
Stepping up to the old man, he said “I’m sorry that I had to leave so abruptly, but that barrier was an abomination.”
“It was, we were afraid you’d try to bolster it and completely rid us of our magic.”
“I’m sure that the triple regions will be interested in trade.”
“What do we have that they don’t?”
“You haven’t been to the triple regions.  Much of the population has a scholarly outlook.  They would pay money to enter your cities and be guided and told about your history.  With the money you make with that, you can buy technology, and set up your own factories.  There are raw materials under the earth to mine, you just need the tools.”
“We are grateful for the help.”
“A pittance compared with what I did.  I am yet going to help you.”  He looked around “there will be trouble, I forgot.”
“About what?”
“The barrier is down, and so pokemon shall once again inhabit the land.”
The man’s eyes shone “pokemon” he whispered “I had thought them a legend.  You mean to tell me that there are actually elementals roaming free around this earth.”
“Hordes, herds and swarms.  And your people have long ago lost the ability to guard against their harmful radiation.  I must fix that.”  Teleporting back to the shrine of mana, Saliaven put his hand into the column and manipulated just a tiny percentage toward growing a personal shield for all the inhabitants until their natural systems came back.  At least this area wouldn’t be worrying about a chronoton blockage for a while yet.
Teleporting the entire party back to the TARDIS, Saliaven prepared to launch them back to Luto.  “Mission a success” he mumbled after a questioning gaze from Mewtwo.  At that, the familiar screech of the core filled the air, and the city dematerialized.
Author’s note: I don’t own pokemon, but I could.  You never know.  This took too long, is too long, and gods how I love it.  Imagine, I started with a slightly weird idea for the cast of pokemon, and 42000 words later, it’s completely weird.  Stay tuned, because I’m going to try to get even weirder in the next one.  In about two to three stories, I’m actually doing a crossover.  It’s one of my specials, the “Battle Royale” idea.  For those of you who’ve never seen a BR fic, that’s where a writer takes all their fave chars from every conceivable show and pits them against each other.  I’m going to limit myself to anime in this case, but with all the anime out there, its still a wide range to choose from, so stay tuned.
