Ash's True History

He thought for a minute. Then he thought for an hour. Well, that was all he could do. Besides, when your body can't move at
all, but wide awake, what else can you even think of doing? That's right…think. He resented that he kept
procrastinating…He wanted to break free, gain his freedom…but a feeling, deep inside him, said for him to wait. So he
waited…And waited… He wondered if his waiting would do any good. But he trusted his instincts, and so he followed them
without question. 'I'll find you someday…I'll find you all someday…' he thought. All he could think of, was the family that
was taken away from him. Mom, Dad…and especially his brother. 'Brother…'

Ash, Brock, Misty, and Pikachu have finally arrived at the fiery land known as Cinnabar Island. There was quite a lot to see there. But the place that everyone
found most interesting was the Pokemon Mansion, famous for its collection of rare Pokemon used for lab experiments.
“Well, where are we going to go first?” Ash asked. He was especially interested in that Pokemon Mansion.
“I’m going to look for Nurse Joy,” said Brock. Ash and Misty sighed. As usual, Brock was always trying to get a date with her.
“Well, let’s split up and look around,” said Misty. But Brock had already left.
“Hmm…guess Brock’s already left to hit on Nurse Joy again,” said Ash. He sighed. ‘I wonder why’s he always looking for the girls…’
Ash left for the Pokemon Mansion with Pikachu, Misty went to the beach to relax with her Pokemon, and Brock already left to the Pokemon Center to hit on
Nurse Joy once again.
When Ash arrived at the Pokemon Mansion, he started to look around. ‘Strange…it feels like I know this place…’ he thought.
He looked at Pikachu. Pikachu was thinking the same thing. For some reason…he knew of every corner of the room, what he would expect at every turn.
He continued to look at the Pokemon paintings in the hallways.
Just then, Ash and Pikachu came to a display room of Pokemon in glass tubes. ‘These must be Pokemon used for the lab experiments…’ Ash thought.
He turned to look at Pikachu. Pikachu looked jittery and scared.
“What’s wrong, Pikachu?” Ash asked.
"Pi…" was all Pikachu could say.
He looked around the metal lab room. Then he looked at Pikachu again.
“Are you saying this place scares you?”
Pikachu nodded.
“You know,” Ash said, “I can see why’d you be scared. All this…” He looked at the glass tubes. Several rare Pokemon were inside. There were Pokemon like
Kabutops, Omastar, Moltres, Zapdos, and even Articuno. They were all sleeping. Or at least they looked like they were sleeping.
He walked to the end of the room. At the end was a big glass tube filled with some green liquid.
And a Pokemon.
Ash stared at the tube. The Pokemon inside was a big one, looked cat-like, and had natural armor.
It was the rarest Pokemon of all. Mewtwo.
“This…What kind of Pokemon is this?” Ash asked.
There was no one else around to answer him. Only Pikachu was around. But Pikachu didn’t answer him.
He immediately hid behind Ash’s leg.
Ash didn’t pay attention. He put a hand on the glass tube. He looked down to see a plaque.
‘Lab specimen, number 150. Code name: Mewtwo’ it read.
“Mewtwo…”
Ash continued to stare at the Mewtwo.
Memories he never remembered suddenly came to him.
He gripped his head and fell on his knees. Pikachu backed away from Ash.
“Pika!” Pikachu could only watch. He was too scared of what was happening.
Ash was still gripping his head, trying not to think of the sudden infusion of memories and thoughts.
‘What…is this?! What are these memories?! Who…?!’ Ash tried to refuse the thoughts that had wandered into his head from out of nowhere.
Then Ash could resist no more.
He suddenly saw the unlocked memories.
All of them.
They all consisted of Ash’s past.
It was about 14 years ago…
Ash saw all of his memories as if he was watching from the ‘outside’.
He found himself at Route 1, in the middle of a road.
He saw a young and rare Pokemon on the road, lying on the ground. It was a small, cat-like Pokemon, with a long, slender tail.
He couldn’t believe it. The Pokemon was another rare one.
Mew.
It was bleeding from serious wounds.
Ash stepped forward to help the mysterious Pokemon but just then he saw a young woman walking on the road.
Ash quickly recognized her. “Mom?” he said.
But Ash’s mom didn’t hear him. Instead, she ran toward the fallen Pokemon.
The Mew, in a flash of light, suddenly transformed into a human baby.
“You’ll be okay,” Ash’s mom said to the crying baby, and ran home to her home to take care of it.
Ash just stood there for a long time.
‘Is this…my real past?’ he thought.
He just stared blankly in the middle of the road, forgetting where he was…
“PIKA-CHUUU!!!” Pikachu immediately thundershocked Ash to wake him.
“Ow! What the…?!” Ash quickly found himself at the Pokemon Mansion again.
Pikachu looked into Ash’s eyes. “Pikachu? (You know don’t you?)” Pikachu asked.
“How do you know what I know?” said Ash.
“Pika pikachu (I can sense your thoughts. I understand how you must feel now, after learning about your past…)”
“How’d you know I just remembered?”
“Pikachu! (I told you, I can read your thoughts. You didn’t think I was a normal Pikachu, didn’t you?)”
Pikachu quickly shut up. Apparently Ash didn’t know how abnormal Pikachu was.
Ash sighed. “Come on. Let’s just go to the hotel and think things over. This is not the place to talk about this…” he said.
Pikachu agreed.
They both left the Pokemon Mansion, not knowing a pair of eyes were overseeing the whole ordeal from the beginning…
Misty was on a cape on the island, looking over the various water Pokemon on the sea.
She was looking at the beautiful sunset.
‘Ahh…I just love looking at sunsets like this…It’s so romantic…’ Misty thought.
Just then, she saw a Seadra pop out of the water and looked at her.
“Oh, how cute!” Misty said, but didn’t reach for a Pokeball to capture it.
Just then the Seadra saw Ash walking toward Misty from behind. Scared, it quickly dived back into the water.
‘Huh? I wonder what scared it…?’ Misty thought.
“Hi Misty,” said Ash, who was right behind Misty.
Misty gasped and turned around. “Ash!”
“Huh? What’s your problem?”
“Oh, nothing, you just scared me, that’s all.”
“So you’re saying I’m scary to you?” He began to laugh.
“Hey, I’m not that scared of you!” Then Misty pounded Ash with a mallet. Then after giving a “Hmph!” she walked off to the hotel by herself.
‘I don’t know why he always acts like a jerk,’ Misty thought.
Ash and Pikachu sat on a rock on the cape, overlooking the sea. He was still in deep thought about his past.
‘Am I really that Pokemon I saw back in my vision?’ Ash kept thinking.
“Pikachu, pika pika (I know how you feel, Ash. To find out that you really don’t know anything about yourself…)” Pikachu said.
But Ash didn’t hear him. He still kept thinking why his past memories were hidden for so long. He even thought why his mom kept his own past a secret as
well.
He sat there, even throughout the night, over a full moon in the sky.
Misty and Brock were waiting for Ash in their hotel room. “What’s taking Ash so long?” said Misty.
“I don’t know. Shall we check on him?” said Brock.
“Well, I last saw him at the cape, so let’s check there, okay?”
“Alright, let’s go.”
They left the hotel, not noticing Team Rocket also checking in for a room…
“Jessie, what are we doing in a place like this? To capture Pikachu again?” asked James.
“No, you idiot! We’re here to get the rare Pokemon in that Pokemon Mansion! And you’d better be lucky we’re doing this job. The Boss himself will ensure us a
promotion if we do this job right!” said Jessie.
“And the Boss will make me top cat again!” Meowth added.
“Here we go again with the top cat stuff…” said James. He sighed.
“And you’re saying I can’t be one?!” Meowth scratched James’s face.
“Anyways, let’s rest up before we go with the plan,” said Jessie, and searched for James’s pocket for some money to pay for the stay.
James yawned, paying no mind to Jessie searching through his pocket. “Well, I’m tired too…”
And so Team Rocket rested up for whatever plan they cooked up this time…
Brock went to the Pokemon Center, just in case Ash had to go there to heal his Pokemon. Also, to stare at Nurse Joy again.
Misty went back to the cape. She saw Ash, still sitting quietly on a rock, looking toward the starry sky. Pikachu was asleep on Ash’s lap. ‘There’s
something…different about Ash,’ Misty thought. ‘But what?’
Ash sensed a presence behind him. “Hm?” He turned around.
“Ash…”
“Misty…”
Misty couldn’t think of anything else to say after that. “Um…”
“What are you doing here?” was all Misty could think of in a second.
“I’m just looking at the stars,” said Ash. “You?”
“It became late, so I was looking for you,” said Misty.
Ash just realized it. “Oops, I forgot it’s nearly midnight now. Sorry to worry you.”
“It’s no big deal. Let’s get back to the hotel.”
Ash and Misty both walked back. Misty was unaware that Ash was staring at her the whole walk. Ash was thinking about Misty, but he was still thinking about
himself.
‘I wonder…why am I starting to like Misty? She couldn’t possibly like me…’ Ash thought. ‘I’ve always been the jerk of the group…I can’t say anything of what I
feel to her. I just can’t.’
Misty was also deep in thought the entire walk to the hotel. ‘Sometimes I wonder why I fight with Ash…I really like him but…there’s no way he likes me back…’
Misty thought. ‘I think I’ve been acting too selfish of myself the whole trip…I didn’t follow Ash because he owes me a bike…’
Brock was getting tired of waiting, so he left the Pokemon Center, just in time to see Ash and Misty walking back to the hotel, not saying a word.
‘Hmm…that’s strange…They always start a fight after a minute with each other…’ he thought.
He went ahead to the hotel.
When Ash, Misty, Brock and Pikachu went back to their room, no one said a word. They all went back to bed.
Unfortunately, Ash would not have pleasant dreams for this night…
Ash found himself inside a glass tube full of some green liquid. ‘I…can’t move,’ he thought. ‘What’s going on here?’
Then he looked at himself. ‘I’m…’
He was now in his Pokemon form. Mew.
He looked around. There were several scientists fiddling at computer consoles. Then he looked at the glass tube next to his.
It was the Mewtwo he saw earlier.
The Mewtwo was asleep. Somehow, Ash could feel some kind of connection to this Pokemon. ‘I wonder why I’ve never seen that Pokemon before anywhere
else…’ Ash thought.
Then he looked at the far end of the room. ‘Professor Oak?’
There he was.
Professor Oak was arguing with one of the scientists there. The scientist looked like he was in charge of the lab. He was slightly shorter than Professor Oak,
and his gray-hair was in an evil-looking hairstyle.
“I refuse to support this project, Norman. Do you know what you’re doing experimenting on Pokemon?” argued Professor Oak.
“I don’t understand why you’re against something that’ll make us billionaires, Oak. Is your compassion for Pokemon blinding your judgement?” Norman said.
“Using Pokemon as guinea pigs is totally inhuman. I won’t have any part in this. NO PART IN THIS AT ALL!!” Professor Oak threw his work badge at Dr.
Norman’s face, and walked away. “I pray for the day that your own experiments will destroy you…” Oak muttered as he left.
“To hell with you, then, Oak! I don’t need you to be a rich man!” Then Norman calmed down. He walked toward the glass tube where Ash was.
“My precious specimen…Mew…you’re going to help me make history,” he said to Ash, who didn’t understand at all what he meant. Then he went to the
Mewtwo’s glass tube.
“And you…You’re going to destroy all who gets in our way…” he said to the Mewtwo, who seemed to be still sleeping.
Then Norman went to another glass tube at one corner of the room. Inside it was the green liquid again, but there was no Pokemon in it. At the base of the
glass tube, there was a plaque there. ‘Specimen #25, Pikachu’ it read.
“I should’ve taken back the Pikachu that I gave to Oak to study,” he said to himself. “Oh well, it was a failure project anyway. There was no way a simple and
weak Pokemon like that would accept the Intelligence Serum anyway. Let it live with that visionless old tree anyway.”
Ash knew about the Intelligence Serum. It was a drug that induced very high intelligence inside a Pokemon, which was supposed to grant the Pokemon the
ability to speak perfect English. Apparently, it didn’t seem to work on Pikachu.
‘Now how did I know that…?’ Ash thought to himself. He didn’t actually know that earlier.
Then Ash looked at himself again. ‘I’m…really a Pokemon…’ he thought. ‘This…is supposed to be my true self…Then, what was it all worth living as a human?
I think I know what I should do…’
Misty couldn’t sleep. She kept thinking about Ash. Then she turned over to look at Ash.
He was turning and tossing in his sleep.
‘I wonder what’s wrong with him?’ Misty thought. She knew that whatever dream Ash was having, it couldn’t be good at all.
Even Pikachu bolted awake at the sound of Ash’s turning. He looked at Ash.
‘He’s trying to accept himself,’ Pikachu thought. ‘I wonder what side he will choose…?’
The next day, Jessie, James, and Meowth had snuck into the lab area of the Pokemon Mansion. Meowth was carrying a big bag of Pokeballs.
“Ok, tell me what we’re going to do to steal these Pokemon here,” James said. “There’s no way we can just carry these glass tubes of Pokemon out the
window…”
“No, you dummy,” Jessie retorted. “All we have to do is find the switch that opens the glass tubes, then we can just capture the Pokemon the old-fashioned
way!” She had brought along several Pokeballs for this occasion.
“So where are we going to find the control switch? It’s not like we can just ask for directions…” said Meowth.
“That’s exactly what we’re going to do.” Jessie changed into a lab outfit. She threw James and Meowth their lab coats as well.
Just then a scientist rounded the corner to check on the Pokemon. He saw Jessie, James, and Meowth examining one of the glass tubes.
Jessie walked up to the scientist. “Excuse me, but could you tell where the emergency control switch for the glass tubes are? This is an emergency,” she said.
“What kind of emergency?” the scientist asked.
“We believe that these tubes are going to crack any minute. We must replace the glass immediately!” Jessie said, sounding serious.
“The control switch is at the third door to your right,” the scientist said. “I’ll begin evacuating the Pokemon…”
Jessie pulled out her sledgehammer and pounded the scientist, knocking him unconscious.
“Thank you for your cooperation,” said Jessie. “We’ll be more than happy to take the Pokemon…for ourselves, that is!”
Jessie and James found the control switch at the place where the scientist had told them. “Ok, on my count, we’ll flip the switch, capture the Pokemon before
they awake, and hit the road!” said Jessie. “Ready?”
“1…
“2…”
Before Jessie and James found the controls, Meowth was looking at the Mewtwo glass tube while Jessie and James were away. He was to start throwing the
Pokeballs once the glass tubes were raised.
“Hmm…now who’s this…? This Pokemon’s pretty scary…” Meowth said to himself.
“SPECIMEN NUMBER 151, Mewtwo,” it read. “The deadliest Pokemon created from our best scientist alive. Enemies killed with Mewtwo is at a record of 100.”
Meowth started to back away. “Killed…?”
Then he remembered about Jessie and James.
Then he looked at the Mewtwo.
“I better get out of here!” yelled Meowth, as he ran for his life. He had never ran into a Pokemon that was a living murderer.
Meowth burst out of the front door, triggering the alarm just as Jessie and James were about to flip the switch. “Hey, what the…?! Who triggered the alarm?”
Jessie and James didn’t expect this. “And where’s Meowth?” James asked. Jessie had no clue either.
Suddenly, they heard some glass thing drop from the lab area.
“What was that?”
“Maybe we better go check…”
Both of them slowly and quietly walked back to the lab area with the glass tubes of Pokemon. Fragments of glass were on the ground.
"Meowth, did you drop somethi--" Jessie stopped in mid-sentence.
Hovering over Jessie and James was the cause of the problem.
Mewtwo.
Mewtwo, without saying a word, fired a beam of psychic energy, and it hit the floor, a few inches away from Jessie and James.
Jessie and James both hugged each other in fear, still facing the Mewtwo.
“What IS that thing, anyway?!” screamed Jessie.
“I don’t know, but I’m not sticking around to find out!” said James. He broke free and ran out of the mansion.
“Not without me, you aren’t!” Jessie started to run after James.
Mewtwo paid them no mind. He continued trashing the entire lab with his various psychic attacks. Tables with ancient records were knocked down and ripped.
The cells of the other Pokemon were broken, and the ones inside escaped with their dear lives. Various chemicals spilled, and when they touched each other,
they formed a chain reaction, and created a small fire, which quickly escalated to an inferno of flames.
All the scientists in the Pokemon Mansion didn’t expect a breakout of their best Pokemon. They all evacuated. Except for one.
An old, gray-haired man stood at the entrance to the lab area, gazing at the Mewtwo.
“My precious specimen…what are you doing?!” he said.
The Mewtwo stopped and looked at the old scientist.
“You are…Norman?” it spoke.
Norman backed away in fear. “Y-y-y-you can speak? B-b-but how?”
“It does not matter now…” Then the Mewtwo concentrated, and an aura of psychic energy appeared in his hand. He threw it directly at Norman.
“No---NO!!!!” Norman screamed his death throes the second before he got hit.
All that was left after the ball of psychic energy hit Norman was dust.
At the same time, Ash suddenly awoke from bed. He went to the bathroom, changed, and quietly snuck out of the room. Little did he know, though, that Misty
was wide awake the whole time, peeping behind the covers.
‘Where are you going…?’ thought Misty. She changed and followed Ash.
Ash silently walked to the burning Pokemon Mansion. Scientists were fleeing away, and the adjacent streets were all in a panic. Firefighters were desperately
trying to hose down the fire, while the police officers led the nearby citizens away.
He silently watched the blaze from a few feet away from the mansion.
‘Brother…?’ Ash thought.
He got out his Pokeballs with Charizard, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Pidgeotto. He put them on the ground.
“I’m sorry you all…but I must go…Don’t worry about me, I’ll be ok,” he said to the Pokeballs.
Ash looked up. He sensed a presence behind him, but did not turn his head. “What are you doing here, Misty?”
Misty was standing a few feet behind him. “That’s what I was about to ask you…”
“This doesn’t involve you, Misty…”
“What doesn’t involve me?”
“Trust me, you don’t want to know.”
“Know what?”
Ash did not turn around. An eerie wind blew in the air. Misty was sure he knew something, though he never said a word.
“Goodbye, Misty.” He went into the burning Pokemon Mansion.
“Ash!”
But Ash was already inside.
Ash walked calmly inside the lab area. Mewtwo was there, waiting for him. He was hovering over the ground, looking down at Ash.
“So you’re here…” said the Mewtwo. "I finally get to see you again…"
“Been a long time…brother…” said Ash.
“Yes, it has been long, hasn’t it? Wait a minute…Why are you a human?”
“Well…sometimes, you have to take drastic measures to survive in this world. Besides, you only live once…and there's no such thing as a second chance after
that.”
“I guess I can understand that. Now, shall we go…?”
Just then, Misty appeared at the doorway. But neither Ash nor Mewtwo knew of this.
“Hold on, I need to change…” said Ash, not noticing Misty watching.
Suddenly, Ash started glowing with a fiery red color.
In a flash of light, he completely transformed.
Into Mew.
Misty gasped immediately and fainted. This was too much for her to take.
Ash, now in Mew form, whirled around to see a fallen Misty.
“How did she get here?” said Mewtwo.
“I’ll get her out!” said Ash.
"Forget it, let's go!"
"I can't just leave her here!"
Mewtwo looked down at Ash.
“Why do you bother saving that human? It’s just one girl.”
Ash looked back at Mewtwo. A tear was slowly forming in his eyes.
“Have you completely lost sympathy for all humans? Not all of them in the world are like the ones here!”
Before Mewtwo said another word, Ash wrapped his tail around Misty’s body, and flew out of the Pokemon Mansion. He set her down on the ground a good
distance away from the Pokemon Mansion on a grassy hill.
“I’m sorry, Misty…but this is something I have to do…” said Ash. “I…never thought I’d ever say this…but, I love you, Misty. I love you.” Misty started to regain
consciousness just in time to hear those words.
Ash didn’t notice this and flew off, into the dark night.
“Wait, Ash!” But it was too late.
All Misty could do was watch him disappear around the horizon. And utter, “I…love you too…”
It was an 18-hour flight to the center of the sea…
Ash, now in Mew form, flew far, far over the sea. 'Where is brother?' he thought. 'Don't tell me he already went in...'
Then he saw a faint blue light. 'Oh, there he is!'
Mewtwo was waiting impatiently over a small island, with a big grass hill on it, and one lone tree at the top of it. 'If bro doesn't get here soon...'
Ash appeared before Mewtwo in a flash. "Sorry for taking so long," said Ash.
"I still can't understand what took ya...but it wasn't that long anyway, so I got no qualms with anything," said Mewtwo. He could tell that Ash was still
thinking of that girl.
Misty.
But Mewtwo left that thought alone for a while.
At least...for a little while.
Ash and Mewtwo stood a few feet away from the island.
"I think this is the spot," said Mewtwo.
"You sure?"
"Well...it's been quite some time since we last been here… but yeah, I'm sure."
They both dove down deep into the sea.
Ash and Mewtwo both swam to the bottom of the island. The surroundings were beautiful. Goldeens were swimming about, being chased by Seakings…which
were being chased by a small Gyarados. A Shellder rested on the bed of the ocean, and the Cloyster next to it opened up for a scant second, revealing a
beautiful pearl inside.
They both found a passage to the inside of the island.
They swam inside, not minding the watching Horseas and Seadras in the dark waters behind them...
Meanwhile, somewhere else in the island, in a secret military base, a Sandslash was pacing back and forth. "Where ARE those two? They finally get the break
they need, and they don't ever bother to show up on time!" he complained. The Sandshrew soldiers standing at attention never said a word.
The Sandslash was standing near the edge of the waters of the underground dock. "That's it...I'm giving them ten seconds..."
"10...9...8...7..."
But nothing came out of the water.
"6...5...4...3...2..."
Still nothing.
"1..."
The Sandslash stopped. "That's it! I am condemning them late--" He stopped in mid sentence when it turned around. "Commander! Major!"
There he was, Mewtwo. He was towering over the Sandslash. Ash was standing right next to Mewtwo. Both of them, not saying a word, now started
examining the Sandshrew soldiers.
They were all at attention. Not one of the Sandshrew flinched one bit.
“Good work, Sergeant. At ease, soldiers,” said Ash.
Ash and Mewtwo gathered up their armies, which were actually pretty small. There was the Sandshrew squad led by a Sandslash, a Charmeleon trio, a pair of
Gyarados, and a small Dragonite.
They all gathered at the War Room to discuss battle plans.
“So Commander, what are we going to destroy now?” asked Sgt. Sandslash.
“We will commence an attack on the Team Rocket headquarters at Viridian City. We’ve just received word from our spies that it is located near there,” said
Mewtwo.
Ash remembered this plan. “So, we’re finally going to initiate this big op…”
“Yep. We were going to begin it years ago, but…well, a lot of things have happened.”
“Okay. Then let me go over the plan.”
Ash cleared his throat. “We’ll use tactic #26. Dragonite will fly Sandslash unit and Charmeleon unit to our destination. Sandslash will lead his troops for a
frontal attack at the front gate. Gyarados and Charmeleon will hit the sides of the headquarters, while bro and I sneak in from the back entrance.”
"You seem to have good memory. I thought you'd forget…" said Mewtwo.
"Surprised?"
"With what's been going on lately, there'd be no other reason to…" Then Mewtwo took a step forward.
“We’re going to take out the boss of Team Rocket while his men are busy with our guys outside,” finished Mewtwo. “All that’s left is a miraculous escape by
retreating on Dragonite.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll hold out long enough for you guys to sneak in.” The Sandslash did some fancy slashes in the air with his claws.
“That goes for all of us,” said the three Charmeleons. They all slapped their tails together. "Rebels rule! Yeah!”
“Okay…we’ll begin this operation at early morning tomorrow at 0800 hours. Be sure to get plenty of sleep for this one,” said Mewtwo. “Everyone, dismissed.”
Sandslash and his unit went back to the training room for some last chance spars with each other. The two Gyarados went for a swim at the waters of the
docking bay. The Charmeleon trio went to bed early anyway.
“Well…I got nothing else to do, so do you mind if we talk, sir?” asked Dragonite. He was still standing at attention.
“At ease, Dragonite. Of course I’m willing to talk while off-duty,” said Mewtwo. “Now…what should we talk about.”
“How long has it been since the Major returned?”
“About fifteen years, I think.”
“So…you’ve been gone for that long?” Dragonite turned to look at Ash.
“Well…now that you think about it, yeah,” answered Ash.
“Tell me something…how were the humans outside?”
“You mean you don’t know about them at all?” asked Ash.
“Well…it’s been about sixteen years since I was with my trainer. Oh man, I don’t want to remember him.”
“How was he like?”
“He was always whipping me, even when I did good. I tried to think of everything to please him, but every time I tried, he just whipped me even harder.”
The Dragonite was silent. Mewtwo could see that this was not the Dragonite’s favorite subject to talk about.
“I think you need some time to just sit back and relax. Let’s get a drink at the bar,” said Mewtwo. “We can talk about something else, if you want to…”
“Thanks, sir.”
But Ash didn’t feel like drinking. He still had the same thoughts on his mind. “I’ll be at my room…” he said.
“Sounds fine with me. Try to get as much sleep as you can.” Then Mewtwo and Dragonite left the room.
Ash just laid on his bed, not willing to go to sleep. He was just staring at the ceiling. Then, from out of nowhere, his tail uncovered a picture hidden under his
bed. He stared at the picture.
It was a picture of Misty.
‘Misty…’ was all Ash could think of. ‘I wish I could be at your side. But…how can I? Especially like this?’
Deep inside him, he was beginning to regret ever finding his brother. ‘I wish I could see you again…before I became…this…’
Then he got an idea. ‘That’s it...I’ll…’
Just then Mewtwo barged in the room. Ash immediately hid the picture of Misty back under the bed. He turned away from the door.
“Don’t you ever knock?” said Ash. He was annoyed that his train of thought was broken.
“I must be forgetting my manners…but I couldn’t help but overhear you thinking of that girl…” said Mewtwo. He gave Ash a look, as if saying ‘Don’t even think
of lying to me.’
“Well…so what if I think of…”
“Misty…that’s her name, is that correct?”
“She has nothing to do with…”
“Me? Yeah, I know it’s not my business. Well, tell you what…”
Ash turned back at his brother.
“You can go see that girl…but on two conditions…” started Mewtwo.
“Well…spill it.”
“One: you come back before 11 PM. Two: I’m interested in that Pikachu you had before…”
“How’d you know I had a Pikachu?”
Mewtwo sighed. “Once I see a person, I can read everything about him like a book. But…just know I don’t want to know what’s your connection to that girl,
because I respect your privacy. Anyways, I want you to get that Pikachu to help us. It seems pretty strong, and I want to test its powers for myself…”
“I’ll be sure to do that.” Then Ash hurried out of his room and left the base.
Mewtwo thought to himself. ‘Do what…? Come back? Or go?’
He still wasn’t sure if he would come back, anyway.
It’s been a day since Ash was missing. Back at Cinnabar Island, Misty was alone at her hotel room. Brock and Pikachu tried to comfort her, but all she said
was, “I just want to be alone.” She couldn’t stop thinking about Ash.
Misty didn’t care of anything else. She didn’t care if Ash was really a Pokemon. She only wanted to be with him.
‘Ash…’
Then, from her hotel window, she could see a faint red light from across the sea. ‘Ash…?’ Misty thought.
The red light was getting closer.
“Ash!”
Brock and Pikachu stood outside the door, thinking of something else to say to comfort Misty today.
“Well…I can’t think of anything, Pikachu…let’s just accept the fact that Ash isn’t ever coming back…” Brock started.
“Chuuu…” It was hard for Pikachu to accept that fact, too.
Just then, Misty burst the door wide open, slamming Brock in the face. She immediately ran out of the hotel.
“Now where’s she going? Come on, Pikachu!”
Brock and Pikachu ran after Misty, to the same cape that Misty awoke from that fateful night.
Ash stood alone on the cape. He was emitting a fiery red aura of psychic energy from within his body.
‘Misty…’
She was all Ash could think of.
He looked at the endless sea. The stars were twinkling brightly, as if they foresaw the fates of all.
‘I wish Misty was here to see the stars here tonight…it’s a cool breeze, the hour’s just right…’
Suddenly, he heard footsteps coming from behind.
“Ash!” Misty called from behind him.
He turned around. Then he turned again. “Misty…no, you shouldn’t see me like this.”
“I don’t care about how you look now. All I care about is…you.”
Ash turned to look at Misty. “Take a good look at me. What do you think of me now?
I’m not the same person, Misty. And from here on, I probably never will.”
“You’re wrong. Looks don’t matter. What’s important is what’s inside.”
“Hm. This is ironic…I remember you saying ‘Outside matters the most’ while we were back at Celadon City; now listen to you. Do you know what you’re
saying?”
Misty had a tear in her eye. ‘So it’s true…He never liked me at all…Why did I waste this entire journey following him?’ she thought.
Ash heard the thought as if Misty had said that out loud. “That’s…not exactly true, Misty,” he said.
Misty gasped. Did Ash just read her mind?
Ash took a step forward. “While…I was human…I…I loved you, Misty.”
“To me, you still are, Ash.”
Ash turned around, his back to Misty. “But…I’m not human anymore. I can never be the same now…I’m a Pokemon…” He looked at the sky. “I must be going.”
“Will I…see you again.”
“It depends if you’re going to be in our mission too.”
“What mission?”
Ash hesitated. He had sworn never to reveal his group. But in this case, he knew it was okay.
“I guess I’ll have to explain ourselves. I’m the Sub-Commander and Major of the Rebel Fleet. They are Pokemon that have escaped from the cruelty of their
trainers. The reason that they banded together was that most of their trainers were from Team Rocket. Together, we swore with our lives that we would
defeat Team Rocket, once and for all.”
“But what do you have against Team Rocket?” asked Misty.
“They…they are the ones that killed my parents…” A tear dropped from Ash’s eye.
“That’s all I have to tell you. Just know that we’re going to stop Team Rocket once and for all at their HQ at Viridian City early tomorrow.” Ash turned around,
silently floating a few inches above the ground.
“Wait, Ash. Listen…just because you’re a Pokemon, doesn’t make you less of a person. You have a soul. A soul that deserves kindness. Don’t throw away the
qualities and feelings that got you to this point now. Please.”
Ash took one last look at Misty. He then floated high above the ground, and teleported away.
He forgot all about waiting for Pikachu.
Brock and Pikachu had finally found Misty. But they were a second too late, so they didn’t know Misty had found Ash.
“What happened?” asked Brock.
“Ash…”
“What about him?”
“Tomorrow morning, we’ll fly to Viridian City.”
“But why?”
Misty didn’t answer that. She looked at Brock, as if she had already said the answer.
“I see,” said Brock. “Ok…if you say he’s going to be there, then we’ll come too. Come on, let’s get some sleep…”
All of them headed back to the hotel. Pikachu and Misty took one last look at the sea from their hotel window, then went to sleep.
“WAKE UP!”
Brock was practically thrown out of bed. “Wha-what happened?”
Misty was standing right over him. “Come on, we’re going!”
Misty, Brock, and Pikachu all ran out of the hotel. The three stopped once they were outside.
“You mind telling us why did you have to wake us up so early?” asked Brock. But what suddenly appeared in the air answered his question.
A Dragonite was flying over the town, on a course to what seemed to be Viridian.
“It must be them. Let’s go!” said Misty.
“But how are we going to follow them?” asked Brock again.
Misty took out one of Ash’s Pokeballs. Out came Charizard.
“Charizard, follow that Pokemon!”
“Char.” Misty, Brock, and Pikachu all got on Charizard and flew after the Dragonite.
Outside of Team Rocket HQ, Jessie, James, and Meowth were all standing outside the front entrance to the Viridian City Gym, which was actually their base.
They were both demoted to this position because of their failed attempts to catch Pikachu.
James was asleep on the door. Jessie kicked him awake.
“Wake up! If we’re going to get more chances of catching that Pikachu, we have to do a good job doing guard duty!” said Jessie. She kicked James again.
“Ow! It’s not like it’s going to be hard, anyway…I don’t think anyone would be stupid enough to try to attack Team Rocket directly…right?” said James.
Meowth was about to scratch James for making that stupid comment, when he heard a loud screeching sound from behind him.
“W-what the?”
There they were. The Dragonite was carrying the Rebels on his back, and they were right outside Team Rocket’s HQ.
Jessie got a bazooka. “Finally, a chance to prove to the Boss that we’re number one! James! Meowth! Prepare to attack!”
“Aren’t we defending?” asked James. But he got a bazooka anyway.
Just then, Sandshrews started falling from the sky.
“Go! For the Rebels!” they all screamed.
Charizard flew Misty, Brock, and Pikachu from Cinnabar Island to a few feet away from the battlefield that is Team Rocket HQ.
“Looks like we’re just in time,” said Misty.
It was pure panic everywhere. The civilians around the HQ fled for their lives, while the Sandshrew, Gyarados, and Charmeleons were attacking Team Rocket,
just as planned.
Team Rocket already knew the Pokemon that was attempting to defeat them were the Rebels. “Destroy the Rebellion!” screamed one Rocket.
“For the Pokemon! For world peace!” cried the lead Sandslash.
The fighting erupted everywhere. Explosions were everywhere as the bloodshed was increasing. Pokemon and Team Rocket members alike started littering
the ground with their fallen bodies.
While the Rebels were occupying Team Rocket, Misty, Brock and Pikachu all snuck in the back door of the HQ.
“Now…where are we going to find Ash?” wondered Misty.
“I don’t know…but let’s stay together,” said Brock.
Shortly after entering, they came to a stream of unconscious guards along one long hallway.
“At least he won’t be hard to track,” said Brock.
They followed the hallways filled with the knocked out Team Rocket to a huge round dome with computers lined up against the walls. “This must be the core
of Team Rocket’s base,” said Misty. “I think this is where Ash is going to blow up this place.”
Suddenly, a loud THUD came from behind them.
It was a Team Rocket guard. He was knocked down.
Misty and the other started to back away.
Two Pokemon emerged from where the guard was downed.
It was Ash and Mewtwo.
“What are you all doing here?” said Ash. He was surprised that Misty, Brock, and Pikachu had beaten them to the punch. “You’ve got to get out of here!”
“We’ve….we’ve come to help!” said Misty. She forgot her real reason of coming here in the first place.
“Well…” Ash turned to Mewtwo. Mewtwo nodded. ‘Okay, they can help…but their lives are your responsibility,’ he thought to Ash.
Ash turned back to Misty. “Okay…you can help. But let’s make this quick. The guards will be coming here…”
“Soon? Sooner than you think, little twerp,” said a voice from out of nowhere.
Everyone looked up. Three mysterious figures in the shadows were looking down at them.
“Prepare for trouble!”
“Make it double!”
The lights went completely out.
They came back on, and there they were. Otherwise known as the Three Stooges, Jessie, James, and Meowth had come to try their luck again.
“To protect the world from devastation!”
“To unite all people within our nation!”
“Okay, they know the rest,” said Meowth. Jessie and James facefaulted.
“Anyway…we were wonderin what the noise here was about…” said Meowth. “All right, Pokemon, surrender!”
“Like you can stop us!” said Mewtwo. He used his psychic powers to slam Meowth against a wall, knocking him unconscious.
Jessie wasn’t looking impressed at all. “We’ve been expecting you all!” she said, as she pulled out a whistle.
She blew it, and suddenly, about fifty Team Rocket members rushed in the room from all sides. There seemed to be more.
“We’re…we’re surrounded…” said Ash. He did not expect this at all.
“To tell you the truth…I knew there was something a bit wrong with this plan…” said Mewtwo.
Mewtwo got into fighting position. Ash was about to step up to help him, but Mewtwo held him back.
“Escape with the others, brother. I’ll finish the job…”said Mewtwo, still facing the Team Rocket guys.
“What do you mean?” Ash looked blankly at his brother. “I’m staying here…and then we're going, just like I said--”
“No...You're the one that's going to leave. I understand how you feel; about me and about your friends…and I know it’s hard for you to choose who to stay
with…so…”
“No, brother…I’m going to fight with you…and besides…”
“Say no more…Ash. I already know. But just remember…I’ll always be with you…not only as your brother, but as your best friend…Now go!” He turned back to
Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu. Closing his eyes, he emitted an azure blue aura, and all of them disappeared in a flash.”
Jessie, James, and Meowth just stood there, stunned by what the Pokemon had just done. 'He had just let himself get killed?' they all thought. They were
holding their Pokeballs, but they were about to put them away when…
“Sacrificing yourself for your friends? A commendable intuition…but ultimately futile…” a voice echoed.
Mewtwo looked around. Then he saw it in the shadows. “You…?! So you’re the leader of Team Rocket…”
The mysterious person emerged. He raised a hand. “You could be the perfect weapon for us…” he said in an ominous voice. He lowered his hand, and Team
Rocket got their whips and Pokeballs…
“Is that the best you can do?” Mewtwo was getting confident, but suddenly looked up in surprised of what was above…
It was his whole unit, caught in an energy net.
Mewtwo's eyes open wide open.
"We're okay, sir!" said the weakened Sandslash. "Get out of here! Leave us!"
"There's no way I'm going to do that…We're getting out of here, and we'll stop Team Rocket…together…"
"Forget about us! The mission goes first!"
"No…I can't accept that…It's bad enough I lost nearly all of my real family…no way am I going to lose this one…"
"You…call us…family?"
"Yes…" A tear slowly drifted down Mewtwo's eyes. "We'll always watch our backs, death or no death…"
“Well…?” Giovanni said, and smirked.
That one word said it all. “It’s either you, or your comrades…”
Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu appeared right outside Viridian City.
Ash didn’t waste any time. “I’m going back…!”
Suddenly, a huge explosion came from the Team Rocket base on the other side of town.
They all hurried to…the remains of Team Rocket.
All that remained was rubble.
“No…!” screamed Ash. “You’re not dying on me brother! Not now!”
He began using his telekinesis to move the rubble away. Then he turned back to Misty, Brock, and Pikachu.
“Well? Don’t just stand there…help me out here!”
They all searched through the remains the whole day, but they could find nothing once night struck.
“We can’t find him anywhere…” said Misty when she finished searching. “I’m sorry…”
“No…it’s not your fault, Misty…” Ash looked up to the sky. “It was me. It was always me.”
“Now wait. Why do you say that?”
“I was the reason that my brother was captured so many years ago…I was always in the way…that’s why we couldn’t destroy Team Rocket much earlier…My
brother was always forced to put me first…”
“He put you first because he cares about you, Ash,” said Misty. “He’s always cared about you…why do you think you’re still standing here now? He was
protecting you all your life…even when he wasn’t with you when you became human. I’m sure he kept you in his heart all those years at the Cinnabar
Lab…and I’m also sure he regrets failing to protect you those 14 years. Don’t think this happened because you were in the way: it was Team Rocket’s fault the
entire time. They were the ones responsible for taking your brother away from you, and they’re the ones responsible here too. Remember, your brother, even
in death, will always watch over you.”
Ash turned back to Misty. He sniffled. “I…guess you’re right. Besides, you have siblings too…you’ve never really felt alone…But, you have three sisters…I only
had one brother that I barely know about…” Ash looked down. “Now I’m alone again…”
Misty slapped Ash in the face. “Don’t ever say that again! You understand?”
“W...what do you mean?”
“You have your friends. You’re not alone. We’ll always be with you…whether you’re a Pokemon or not, it doesn’t matter. To me, you’re a wonderful guy…you
deserve better than any of us…”
Ash turned back to Misty, Brock, and Pikachu. “Thanks, guys…”
He looked at Misty. “And…thank you, Misty. I…” But he remembered that Brock and Pikachu were still here.
Misty could tell what Ash was thinking. “Excuse us, can you give us a little privacy here please?”
Brock and Pikachu nodded.
Ash teleported himself and Misty to the cape of Cinnabar Island. “I…uh…” Ash started.
“I already know,” said Misty.
“You do?”
“And…I want to say…I love you too…”
As Ash and Misty’s face came closer, Ash started to change into human form…
By the time they both started to kissed, Ash was completely in human form, holding Misty in his arms, over the moonlit night…
And, far away, over the ocean, a figure with a long tail was overlooking both of them.
‘Take care of yourself…brother…’ was all the figure silently whispered. It closes its eyes, trying to cover a tear from falling, which streaked down its face, and
dropped, into the ocean…
The end.
