Misty looked as if she were about to argue, but instead she just sighed in defeat. “I’ll go pack...” she mumbled, dragging herself upstairs. Once Misty was out of earshot, Lily slapped the palms of her sisters in a high five. “Score!” she cried triumphantly. Misty heaved a large suitcase out from under her bed and left it open on the floor. She walked into her walk-in closet and looked around for clothes she wanted to bring. The guy on the weather forecast said that there would be a heat wave all summer, so she searched for light clothing. “Okay...I’ll take this...and this...and some of these...ooh, and I’ll need this.” While Misty was mumbling to herself, Violet came in. “Hey, lil’ sister, do you, like, need anything? Make-up, for instance?” Misty came out of the closet and looked at her sister frostily. “I’m fine, thanks.” “You sure?” “Apart from the fact that I don’t even want to go on this holiday, I’m just peachy.” Violet scowled at her and left. “Why me?” sighed the redhead, as she returned to her packing. The next day, Misty was waiting outside her home at 3pm for the bus to pick her up, three bulging hold-alls next to her. She was wearing beige trackies and a pink and darker pink striped t-shirt. A moment later, the bus rounded a corner and stopped in front of her. Misty hugged her sisters. “We’ll, like, miss you, Misty.” Daisy said, squeezing her sister. “Yeah, send us, like, a postcard or whatever.” Lilly added. “Okay, see you later!” Misty gave them a smile and got on the bus, the doors closing behind her. Misty sat herself at a window seat and waved to her sisters, who waved back. She sighed and leaned back into her seat as the bus started up and drove away. As soon as the bus was out of sight, the triplets all did a little dance on the pavement. “She’s gone! We can do whatever we like!” they cheered, waving their arms manically. Although they were celebrating her departure, the sisters all felt a little bit sad that they wouldn’t see their sister for a while. Misty had been travelling for about an hour, not including all the stops at people’s houses. At the next stop, a boy and a girl got on. The girl asked Misty if the two seats next to her were free. Misty told her that they were and the two of them sat down. “Hi! I’m Duplica!” said the girl cheerfully, holding out her hand for Misty to shake. She had dark green hair tied up in two bunches at either side of her head. She was wearing denim shorts and white tank top. “Hi! I’m Misty!” replied Misty, shaking Duplica’s hand. “This is my boyfriend, Brock!” Duplica said, gesturing to the guy sitting next to her. “Hi!” Brock also shook Misty’s hand. He had spiky brown hair, squinty eyes and a goofy smile. He was wearing a black t-shirt and black combats. ‘How does he see?’ wondered Misty A little later, two more guys and a girl got on and sat down in front of Misty, Duplica and Brock. The girl leaned round to talk. “Hi! I’m Whitney! This is my boyfriend Gary.” She said, pointing to a boy with long brown hair that spiked at the top. He was wearing blue shorts and baggy white t-shirt. Whitney herself had pink hair in a long plait and was wearing a pink t-shirt with the words ‘100% perfect’ on it, and a pink skirt with a pattern of yellow flowers. The final boy leaned over the back of his seat. “Hi! I’m Ash!” he greeted them, waving at each of them in turn. Ash was wearing a white shirt-thing and black shorts. For the next two hours, the six teenagers swapped stories and information about their lives. Misty became best friends with Duplica and Whitney really quickly, and she was always laughing at the guys’ antics. ‘Maybe coming to camp wasn’t such a bad idea after all...’ she thought, smiling to herself. Meanwhile, Brock and Gary had noticed that Ash kept glancing at Misty when she wasn’t looking. While the girls were talking about clothes or whatever, they cornered him. Well, as much as you can corner without leaving your seat and attracting the girls’ attention. “Hey Ash?” said Brock, smiling creepily at him. “What...?” “We know something that you don’t want us to know!” said Gary in a sing-song voice. Ash looked at them in a confused way. “What?” he said again, getting more than just a teensy bit freaked out by Brock and Gary’s creepy grins. Gary leaned over to whisper in his ear so the girls couldn’t hear. “You have the hots for Misty, don’t’cha?” Gary murmured in Ash’s ear, smiling broadly. Ash’s eyes doubled in size. “No way!” Ash whispered, looking over at the girls, making sure they couldn’t hear. “Yes you do!” insisted Brock, grinning just as broadly as Gary. “No I don’t!” whined Ash. “Fine. But we still think you like her!” said Gary quietly. Ash was about to protest, but Whitney turned round to ask Gary which he preferred out of two items of clothing. Ash sighed as Gary looked as if he had no idea what the clothes were anyway. When they arrived at the camp, the bus emptied, everyone dragging their luggage to the Mess Hall, where they would be put into cabins. “Oh, I hope that you, me and Whitney are in the same cabin!” said Misty to Duplica. Duplica nodded, smiling at her new friend. When they reached the mess hall, they had to sign up for cabins. It was four to a cabin and boys and girls couldn’t go together. The girls signed up for a cabin that had three spaces left, and the guys did likewise. They then had to drag their luggage all the way to their cabins. “This sucks to the max!” groaned Whitney, rubbing her hands together to try and get rid of the indents her bag strap had made. “There’s our cabin!” cried Misty, pointing to a small wooden hut. “Hallelujah!” mumbled Duplica, changing her suitcase to her other hand and pulling her backpack up her shoulder. Once inside the cabin, the girls jumped onto the beds they wanted, gladly dumping their stuff on the floor. “I get the closet!” shouted Misty. “I call the drawers!” yelled Whitney. “Oh man, what do I do with my stuff?” groaned Duplica. “You can put some in the closet if you like.” said Misty. “Thanks. Hey, where’s the other girl gonna put her stuff?” Duplica asked. “I’ll just clear out a couple of drawers for her.” Whitney said, heaving her stuff onto the bed to sort out. A councilor popped her head through the door. “Hi, my name’s Julie. We’re having a meeting in the Mess Hall in ten minutes. You guys have to be there, okay?” she said, smiling at them. They nodded and the councilor looked round the room. “Hey, where’s your other person?” Julie asked. “No idea.” Shrugged Misty. “Okay, I’ll go find her. See you later!” Julie left. Ten minutes later, the girls had sat themselves in the Mess Hall at a table with the other guys. Just before the head Councilor started to speak, some guy sat beside Misty (so the order of seating was: Whitney, Duplica, Misty, and the guy. Okay? Great). “Hi, and welcome to camp wood grove! I’m Carmen and I’m the Head councilor here. Before we go any further, I’d like to point out some rules. No. 1: No...” That’s all Misty heard before the guy who had just sat down beside began to talk to her. “Hi, I’m Butch!” he said, smiling at her. “Hey, I’m Misty.” She smiled back at him. “Say...you aren’t here with your boyfriend, are you?” Ash was watching them out of the corner of his eye. “No, I’m single.” “Well, would it be okay if I asked you out?” Butch asked. “Uh...I guess so” Misty said. “Will you go out with me?” “Okay!” “Okay.” Butch turned back around to watch Carmen talk about rules and stuff, whilst Misty blushed slightly at the thought that she hadn’t been here for very long, and some guy had already asked her out. Ash was still watching her, scowling inwardly. “...And that’s about it, so activities will start tomorrow, and this evening you can just have dinner and go to bed.” “Man, I thought she wasn’t ever gonna shut up!” Brock said, rolling his eyes “I probably could have fallen asleep if these benches weren’t so darn uncomfortable!” “Tell me about it!” Gary agreed “Do they take boring pills, or something?” Gary looked at Ash for him to comment on the subject, but he wasn’t just glaring in Butch’s direction. Brock saw what Gary was looking at, and nudged Ash to get his attention. “Hey man, what’s up?” Brock asked. “Nothing.” Replied Ash stiffly, continuing to glare at Butch. “And I’m a Sunflora. Come on Ash, what is it?” Gary said, looking at his friend in concern. “It’s nothing okay?” Ash said irritably. Gary held up his palms. “Okay! Don’t go all nasty on me!” Ash sighed. “I’m sorry...I’m just really mad about something...” “What?” asked Brock and Gary simultaneously. “I can’t say...” Brock and Gary looked at each other, before looking back at their other best friend, who was engrossed in his shoelaces. Brock shrugged. “Let’s just leave him be.” He whispered to Gary “We’ll find out soon enough.” Gary nodded, looking at Ash worriedly. Meanwhile, the girls were fetching their food. “So, Misty,” said Duplica “Who was this guy you were talking to earlier, hmm?” Whitney giggled as Misty blushed slightly. “Erm...he said his name was Butch, and he asked me out...” Misty replied, looking at the floor to avoid the stares of her friends. “OOOOOooooo!” squealed Whitney, clasping her hands together. “What did you say?” Duplica demanded, her eyes wide. “I said...yes.” “OOOOOOOOOO!” Whitney squealed again, louder than before and causing several people in the line around them to look at her. “Have you ever been out with someone before?” asked Duplica, looking at Misty closely. “No, this is my first time!” Misty said happily “Isn’t this cool? Now we all have boyfriends here!” Whitney nodded and looked over to where Gary, Brock and Ash were sitting. She noticed how downcast Ash looked, and how Brock and Gary were watching him and whispering to one another. ‘I’ll ask Gary about this later...’ she thought privately. After lunch, most of which Butch spent draping his arm across Misty’s shoulders and Misty herself going pink, and Ash glaring at Butch when he was doing something else; they headed back to their cabins. When the girls reached their cabin, they found another girl already there, sitting on the one spare bed. She had blond hair in a ponytail and was wearing a denim minidress. “Who’re you?” asked Misty. “Hi, I’m Cassidy. This is my cabin, so I guess you’re my cabin mates.” Whitney, Duplica and Misty introduced themselves and started to get changed for bed. “Uh, Duplica...why is your bag wobbling?” Misty said, eyeing Duplica’s bag apprehensively. Duplica blushed and grabbed her bag, hissing something like “Turn into some clothing!” into it. “That’s not a...pokemon, is it?” Whitney asked, raising an eyebrow. “No.” said Duplica unconvincingly. “Show me your bag.” commanded Misty, reaching for it. Duplica reluctantly handed her bag to Misty. Whitney looked over her friend’s shoulder as she poked through the contents. “Tell me something...” began Misty, holding up a pair of wriggling pink shorts “Why are your shorts moving?” “Uh...” mumbled Duplica, looking at Cassidy for assistance, but finding Cassidy was curious to know as well, and wasn’t going to help in a hurry “Okay, it’s my Ditto...I couldn’t leave him alone back home. It would be cruel.” The shorts suddenly produced eyes and turned into a pink blob. “How cute!” squealed Whitney and Misty, as Misty handed the Ditto back to Duplica. Cassidy however, looked thoughtful. “Isn’t bringing pokemon to camp banned?” she asked Duplica, who blushed again. “Ye-es...” mumbled Duplica, hugging her Ditto to her stomach “But he’s really well behaved, and I said before how I couldn’t leave him!” she added, looking at the other two for support, and wasn’t disappointed. “I guess it’s okay if it’s really well behaved and doesn’t go out of the cabin...” Misty mused. “Unless Duplica brings it in disguise of course!” Whitney put in “And anyway, it’s a stupid rule, unless someone decides to bring a Gyarados or something...” Misty looked at her. “Don’t tell me you brought a pokemon too!” Misty cried. “Well...I couldn’t leave poor Clefairy alone back with my brothers; they’d use her for training with their pokemon!” Whitney pulled the small pokemon out of her satchel. Misty rubbed her forehead. “You two-“ “Three!” interrupted Cassidy, taking an Oddish out of the backpack next to her. “Three...” whispered Misty hoarsely. “So?” asked Duplica. “I haven’t got a pokemon...” murmured Misty, sitting down on her bed “Not one...” The other three looked at each other, before looking back at their friend, who had began to take her pajamas out of her closet. “Misty...” started Whitney, moving forward, her hand extended. “No, it’s okay, I don’t mind.” Said Misty in a voice that clearly showed the opposite of what she said. Duplica snapped her fingers. “I’ve got it! Hey, Mist, do you like water pokemon?” Misty looked at her. “They’re my favourite kind. Why?” “I have an idea!” Duplica put Ditto on her shoulder and, grabbing Misty’s hand, ran out of the door. “But we have to turn our lights off in five minutes!” yelled Whitney, sticking her head out of the door and shouting in the direction of the pair. “We’ll be back soon!” Duplica called over the shoulder that Ditto wasn’t on. Shrugging, Whitney closed the door and continued to get changed into her nightwear, which consisted of a nightgown with a picture of a Persian on the front, and a caption reading ‘Purrrr-fect!’ Cassidy changed into some yellow pajamas, with a picture of a Chansey on the front.
