~Chapter 1~ “Golduck use Hyper Beam!” yelled a tall 13 year-old boy. His deep brown eyes starred intensely at the battlefield. The Golduck before him closed his eyes as the red gem on his head began to glow orange-yellow. “GOLDUE!” It screamed as a wide orange beam shot from his forehead. The blast threw dirt over his slightly sagged blue denim jean, red T-shirt that had a white Pokéball symbol on it, brown leather vest, and white running shoes. He felt the wind blow threw his short, curly black hair. “Tyranitar, use Hyper Beam as well,” said the deep, intense, mysterious voice of the boy’s opponent across the battlefield. “RRROOOOAAARR!” the huge, dull green behemoth of a Pokémon roared. Tyranitar charged a similar orange-yellow ball of energy in its mouth and fired it into a beam of the same color. The two beams collided causing the relatively dark stadium to brilliantly light up. “You will not win this battle, child!” screamed the opponent, who was still shrouded in darkness “Tyranitar, more power!” Tyranitar’s Hyper Beam grew bigger and engulfed Golduck’s. Then the beam went down and hit Golduck with awesome force and causing a massive explosion! The explosion was so dazzling that the boy couldn’t see anything but a bright whiteness hat surrounded him and all he heard the horrible sound of a Golduck screaming in pain and his opponent letting loose an evil laugh. Then, all of a sudden he was falling! The opponent kept laughing and laughing and the boy kept falling and falling and falling until… THUD!! Theo lay tangled in sheets, on the floor of his bedroom, doused in cold sweat. He was breathing very heavily and terrified by the nightmare he just had. His normally brown skin was paler than normal. What does it mean? he thought to himself. After a moment of thinking he decided to take a nice hot shower and just try to forget about the nightmare, but the sound of that Golduck lingered in his head for a bit longer. Once he got out the shower, Theo put on the same pair of clothes he wore in the nightmare and looked at his Pokémon Calendar. Today was the day he was supposed to get his Starter Pokémon! He ran over to his clock. It read 7:55 A.M. He was five minutes early until he got his Starter. With a sigh of relief, he went down stairs, poured some cereal and turned on the TV. The only thing on was the news. "How boring," Theo said to himself as he switched to the news and begun eating his dry cereal. “This just in, due to the hard work of our police force here in Houenn, Team Rocket has been reduced to nothing but a small street gang;” the anchorwoman stated “their Base of Operations in the Houenn region has been taken over and is now a Pokémon Research facility. Here is Gabby on the scene.” A female reporter with blue and gray hair appeared on the screen in a sky blue tank-top and jean bell bottoms. She stood in front of a tall, gray building that looked a lot like a hospital. “Thanks Dianne. I’m here at the new Pokémon Recovery Clinic where all the abused Pokémon owned by Team Rocket are being treated right now. The Clinic was made for abused, disowned, and injured Pokémon. The doctors and nurses here work non-stop until a Pokémon is well again. If you know a Pokémon that needs help call 555-2468 and the PRC staff will help the Pokémon in need, back to you Dianne.” “Thank you Gabby. In other news-” Theo turned off the TV and stood up to stretch. It serves Team Rocket right for mistreating Pokémon all these years Theo thought to himself. After three minutes off playing Pokémon Ruby version, Theo grab his backpack, put on his white running shoes, and left towards Professor Birch's Lab. On his way there he ran into his best friend, Chelsea. She had on tight blue jeans, a yellow T-shirt, and white running shoes. Thin, oval glasses covered her lovely brown eyes and the wind blew her long glossy black hair freely. Theo and Chelsea both lived in Littleroot Town. It wasn't big but it was beautiful; full of flowers, trees, and friendly people. Theo couldn’t imagine living anyplace else. "Hey Theo, on your way to Birch's too?" she greeted. "Yep, I can't wait to see what my starting Pokémon is," he replied eagerly. "So are we still going to be rivals on our journey?" Chelsea asked with a smirk. "You know it!" Theo said firmly with a closed fist in the air “And I’m going to be a better Trainer than you!” ******* Theo and Chelsea walked into the Lab and looked around the room. It was big and had a lot of machines and computers in it. There was a desk in front of them with five Pokéballs and five PokéDexs on it. There were three normal Pokéballs, one with a lightening symbol on it, one with a fire symbol on it, and the other with a water symbol on it. The other two were different. One was a completely black Pokéball and the other was dark purple on top and purple on bottom. The only one person was in the Lab with them and that was Professor Birch. Professor Birch was a kindly old man with white hair, half-moon glasses, a white lab coat, khaki pants, and sandals. "Hi Professor Birch!" Chelsea said as she took a seat on a chair in front of the desk. “Hey Prof,” Theo acknowledged. "Hello, Chelsea, hello Theo!" the professor said warmly "are you ready for your first Pokémon?" "Yeah we are!" Theo said with excitement. Theo and Chelsea talked about what Pokémon they might get while three other children came and sat down in the three empty chairs. Theo didn’t know them but saw them in Trainer School before. One was a girl with blonde hair and brown eyes and the others were boys. One had fiery red hair and grey eyes and the other had purple spiky hair and green eyes. "Now that every one is here, I can start," Professor Birch said "as you may know, you are here to obtain your Trainer Licensees and starter Pokémon." The professor began to pace around the room, explaining about Pokémon training. "Now, since you have already been to Trainer School, you all know how to capture a Pokémon, train a Pokémon, care for a Pokémon, and be a Pokémon Trainer," he continued as he toke the five PokéDexs of the desk and handed them out "take these, they are PokéDexs. You use to read data about Pokémon unknown to you. Your Trainer Licenses are in there as well." "Thank you professor," the kids said in unison. “Okay now it’s time for you to pick your starter Pokémon!” said Professor Birch with enthusiasm “I will go in alphabetical order so first is Blaze,” the professor said while pointing to the red headed boy. The red head boy ran up and quickly snatched the fire Pokéball and opened it to reveal a lava slug Pokémon. "You received Slugma, a Fire type." Blaze was over come with happiness at the sit of the Lava Pokémon. Slugma said its name happily when it saw its trainer. Blaze opened his PokéDex and read the data on Slugma. "SLUGMA, the Lava Pokémon. SLUGMA does not have any blood in its body. Instead, intensely hot magma circulates throughout this Pokémon's body, carrying essential nutrients and oxygen to its organs. SLUGMA is a Fire type Pokémon," it said. Blaze hugged his Pokémon, returned it in its Pokéball and went to sit down. “Next, Chelsea,” continued Prof Birch. Chelsea walked forward and placed her hand over the black Pokéball but the ball opened on its own before she could touch it and released a white Pokémon with green hair and a red horn. Chelsea smiled at it and it smiled back and glowed a bit. "You got Ralts, a Psychic type Pokémon," said Birch. Then, she opened her PokéDex and read the data on Ralts. "RALTS, the Feeling Pokémon. RALTS has the ability to sense the emotions of people using the horn on its head. If its TRAINER is in a cheerful mood, this Pokémon grows cheerful and joyous in the same way and is also known to change colors when the emotion is strong. This Pokémon rarely appears before people. RALTS is a Psychic type Pokémon," it stated. Chelsea then went and sat down in her seat with Ralts in her lap. “Now Henry.” Henry coolly walked forward and picked the purple ball without much hesitation and revealed a Nidoran (male). The small Nidoran started to show off its muscular body to the other Pokémon but none of them cared. Henry opened his PokéDex and read his Pokémon's data. "NIDORAN MALE, the Poison Pin Pokémon. The male NIDORAN has developed muscles for moving its ears. Thanks to them, the ears can be freely moved in any direction. Even the slightest sound does not escape this Pokémon's notice. It charges then stabs with the horn to inject poison. NIDORAN is a Poison type Pokémon," it said. Henry returned Nidoran and sat down. "Mary it’s your turn." The blonde haired girl walked up and took the lightening Pokéball, opened it and revealed a yellow sheep. “Ma, Ma,” it said in a light voice. "You got Mareep, an Electric type Pokémon," Prof. Birch stated. “Cutie!” said Mary in a baby voice as she sat down. "Aren't you going to read its data in your PokéDex?" Professor Birch asked. "No," Mary replied simply. There was one Pokéball left, the water one. That one was Theo's “Theodore, I believe this is yours,” Birch said pointing at the last Pokéball. Theo gulped hard as he got up and headed towards the last Pokéball. To Be Continued…
