Her relationship was the boss was like fluoride. Jessie remembered seeing a stupid online quiz as a little girl, sitting in her mother’s lap and peering at the pictures on the screen. Fluoride protected the teeth – it prevented cavities, Miyamoto had said, smiling as Jessie showed all six of her baby teeth, but at the same time, if it got into your bones, it slowly dissolved the skeleton.

Of course, Jessie didn’t really remember all of that. All she had of her mother were half-remembered fragments, but Jessie decided that that was the way her mother would be.

She remembered the first time she had seen Giovanni – smooth, suave, and absolutely handsome. She’d had her first schoolgirl crush that day. When he’d offered her a position in Team Rocket, she had accepted without hesitation.

Giovanni had given her a purpose to strive for. She and James would be the very best agents that they could be. They’d made Team Rocket a force to behold, at least up until they had run into lousy Ash Ketchum and his Pikachu.

After that, their fall had been swift and merciless. Giovanni didn’t care for them any longer, when they couldn’t bring in results. Why would he? Instead of being his top agents, they were the laughingstock of the team.

The last time she’d seen Giovanni in person, he had been disappointed, and that had cut her to the core more than any harsh words. She could take insults, but not the accusing silence.

Now, she felt guilt eating away at her bones, and wished – wished – for a second chance. But the worst part was that Jessie knew she wouldn’t get one. She had made her choice, and she had to live it.

“For Boss and country,” She sighed.

Jessie looked up at the stars, and closed her eyes. For Boss and Country, because there was nothing else left.

Well, here’s my stab at Bossshipping… it’s more of a dissolving than a brokenness, but I think it’s similar.
