“Good morning!” Red chirped, bounding into the room and yanking the dark curtains aside. Sunlight poured into the bedroom.

“Why are you so cheerful?” Lance asked, trying to ignore the sunshine now searing her eyeballs. She dearly wanted to stick her head back under the covers, and wake up perhaps in a few more hours, with a cup of hot, steaming spiced wine and some crisp honey pastries. Maybe she could have figs and dates on the side too…

            What time was it, anyway?

She yawned, registering that it was a Monday. Joy…

“It’s the first day of spring!”

“And why is that a good thing?” She said dryly, even as her husband squirmed into bed with her.

“Ohh, you’re so nice and warm…” Red grinned. “But really, Lance-chan, I’m disappointed! I thought you’d be more cheerful! We can quit doing paperwork and start battling trainers instead!”

“One of those things is about as appealing as the other. At least paperwork doesn’t try to attack you and proclaim undying love.”

Her tone of voice suggested that said incidents had been happening far too often. Well, he could sympathize. He had rabid fans too!

“You seem a bit… stressed.” Red suggested, as he began to run his hands down her chest. “Perhaps I can help cheer you up so you aren’t so cranky?”

“You are certainly welcome to try.” She replied.

            “Great! But first, breakfast!”

The door creaked open again and as Lance peeked out, she saw Red’s Espeon and Umbreon peek in, carrying trays on their heads, followed by a Pidgeot with a basket of fruit, and Ursaring hefting a barrel that looked to be full of apple cider.

He had certainly put a lot of effort into this.

“All right,” She conceded. “Perhaps this is going to be a good morning after all.” It was very thoughtful of him.

“Let’s start with breakfast in bed,” He suggested with a wink, and she chuckled.

            “Why not?”

Her crankiness was already evaporating away. Having Red around was doing wonders for her life.

            What a considerate husband…
