Ruby cheered as he spun Coco around in a circle. The little Skitty beamed, flushed pink from the afterglow of a Contest well played. Residual hearts still floated around from her last Attract move, which had easily garnered a win.

“We won, Coco!”

Never mind that it was only a practice Contest for children under the age of ten. He beamed with pride, snuggling her close.

“Lovely!”

Just then, Nana barked, feeling ignored. She nudged against his leg, fur bristling slightly.

“You did well too, Nana! You were so cool!” He praised. He scooped up the Poochyena and cuddled her too. This was more like it! They were beautifully groomed, immaculately clean, and free from those barbaric Pokemon battles.

He happily took them to a nearby stand, and bought berry ice cream. The three of them relaxed in the warm sunshine, eating their treats and enjoying this rare moment of relaxation. All too soon, Ruby saw his mother approaching.

“It’s time to go home, dear.” She said quietly.

Nana and Coco both stiffened, but he nodded quietly. Yes, play time was over. Now, he had to face his Father, and his training…

Ruby quietly recalled them, and slowly got up to follow her. His respite, his brief happiness was over.
