He hawks up a gob of spittle, phlegm making a wet thwack against the ground. She flinches, trembling underneath the hotel room blanket. He frowns and leaves the room, not paying any attention to her, never mind that she just lost her virginity to him. It’s like he doesn’t care. No, he never cared.

What a mistake.

She huddles underneath the sheet, not sure when things went so wrong. She thought she could change him – she really did! The bad boy and the good girl, maybe their relationship was clichéd but it happened all the time in the movies, she knew it did, so why couldn’t it happen in real life?

Dawn sobs, too ashamed to do anything else, and outside, Paul zips up his pants, frowning. He’d expected the sex to be better.

He’ll have to try another girl.
