Red smiled at his wife as they sat across each other from the table. Candles glittered in tall brass holders, casting faint shadows over their faces. Delicious aromas rose from the dishes – the glistening brown turkey, the cut-glass dish of cranberry jelly, the green beans and the creamed corn, and the plate of fluffy biscuits.

“Would you like to start?” Lance asked.

“I’m thankful for you. That is all.” He said.

“Oh,” She paused, startled, but pleased. “That is a rather short blessing. Did you forget your Pokémon?”

He blushed, embarrassed and reconsidered. “Oops! Well, I’m thankful for my Pokemon, and the Elite Four, because they’re nice, and the Gym Leaders, because they’re cool, and for Nurse Joy, because she heals my Pokémon… but I think that’s all.”

Lance smiled. “I see. I’m thankful that you’re safe and healthy, and you’ve surpassed my expectations – you’ve become Champion!”

“I’m glad I made you proud.”

“I’m more than proud. I’m overjoyed.” She praised him. She pondered for a moment, and then spoke again. “I am thankful that Team Rocket has become a decreased threat and that all my Pokémon are healthy and safe, and that you have made friends with the Elite Four and Gym Leaders, and that none of the fangirls made it past our pit of crocodiles…”

            Red giggled.

“And I’m glad I have you of course, dear husband.”

He nodded, and they ate dinner together, and afterwards, they sat by the fireplace and snuggled in a quilt as Red kissed her, cuddling happily. There had been a delicious pie for dessert, not the traditional pumpkin, but chocolate cream. He did not mind the substitution one bit!

He was very thankful, this year.

Lance grinned, relaxed. What a nice day…
